Their strokes are still developing but they've already mastered the most important part and that's how to win.. and you don't win by crushing balls as hard as you can which will only raise your errors, you win by playing within yourself, knowing your limits and having control over yourself.
Tldr translation : let the opponent make the mistakes before you do. Thats not smart play thats just the easy way out. Id know since i have played over a hundred of 4.5 matches. And if they were crushing the ball they would not be 4.5 players. These guys are hitting at a really good pace for 4.5 players
Good match. Both players are very solid base liners with huge net and volley aversion...lol. The lefty maybe is too much defensive imo. No doubt this is a very solid 4.5 tennis level. Only real tennis players with an eye used to watch tennis videos have the capability to judge a tennis match in a video. Many newbies only see pros and they think this is a poor tennis level. The balls on video seems so much slower than the reality, just record yourself to realize (I bet you want to erase your own video after you watch it...the first time I recorded myself was embarrassing). These guys probably have been playing tennis for more than 8-10 years and only 10-20% of players playing same amount of years reach this level. M2CENTS
Yeah, 33 shots is impressive consistency but both players need to take advantage of the short balls and hit more aggressively I think - especially at 4.5.

I know Joe, he’s really consistent and plays a smart baseline game that can wear any player down. My only semi critical comment was that some exchanges were down the middle too much. Good playing none the less. You are probably close to 5.0 level now if u have developed a bigger serve and weapon to put away shorter balls.
most youtube videos don't rate themselves at all... they use what rank they actually are. If they don't look like they should be at that level, that doesn't matter

You probably could flatten out lots of forehands to his backhand (I don't know the weather consitions or anything but maybe lots more adjustment steps for the pace of the ball would help? You seem to move backwards all the time which really takes pace off and destroys your balance through the shot) Nice match!

Samuel Walsh his UTR is 8 in California to be a 4.5 he needs to be a 9 although lower 4 is harsh he’s about medium 4 with his UTR and results factored in

casinowiz007 My shots on both wings have improved quite a bit since this match. I like rip it cross court so if I am playing a lefty I don't mind unless their forehand is crazy good. It's still hard for them to attack a flat backhand cross court as long as it's deep.
This is def solid 4.5, but it sure doesn't look 4.5 haha. But your playing in your updated vid looks really solid! 4.5+ 5.0? You can really play in the updated vid, even if perhaps your matchplay level isn't that much higher
How many lessons did you take and what changed the most for you? I'm a 4.0 entirely self-taught and I could definitely use better technique across the board
@@JakobTennisMB I take a lesson every week. It's been pretty consistent for the most part so hard to say exactly how many. Still working on improving. Most important things for me have been footwork/fitness and mental strength.
Wasn't going for power. Just trying to get it up high. You can see my other videos that I can hit a big forehand. Last point of this match was a big power forehand.

@Tennis with Funk But its not just the pace, they are hitting way too short in the court on normally rally balls, and not taking advantage of short balls to dictate points. They are very hesitant to move in and play aggressively, but like others seemed to say they seem hesitant since this is a big match. I do agree its hard to tell they are 4.5's but I think it is partly the nerves of the big match - not wanting to give away easy points.
Match lasted three hours because of some mindless ball bashing. Step in and take the short balls, move to net, and shorten points. Stop weakly slicing the short balls and retreating back to the baseline.
+Zapruder Film Easier said than done. These guys hit pretty hard and consistently. They don't give the other much time to react. Rushing to the net can be risky in this situation....
+Zapruder Film It was pretty tough for me considering I played a 3 hours grind fest the day before too against I'd say the best 4.5 player in Norcal and I barely came out on top. I had no legs and I pulled a muscle in the first set of this final. I have been improving my game and am now taking lessons to go further and I post regular videos showing progress.

You must have high expectations then. You're the only one to comment that this is not 4.5. This tournament was for top 8 in all of Northern California. There's a reason we are playing in the finals.
I agree with you. In the beginning it looked about 3.5, but later rallies could be upper 3.5 to mid 4.0. I watched a 4.5 match. It was a definite higher level of play. But I guess every area is different
No way this is 3.5-4. I play at 4.0 level and these guys can kick my ass. Did you see the first serve speed from Robert? That's a 5.0 level serve. Anyone who plays tennis at 4.0 level and higher can tell these guys are good.

Results in a relatively safe, relaxed stroke. Sacrifice power for a slower, consistently dipping ball.
These guys look better than 4.5 IMO. More closer to 5.0.

Loosen the wrist in the forehand to get more whip and power generation and do a close stance for the backhand for more torque and power
