#32 I bent my tractor! My experience with Kubota KTAC insurance. Is KTAC insurance worth it? B2601

  • In June, I was using my Kubota B2601 and Land Pride SGC0660 Grapple to move a tree trunk that I had just cut down. I knew it was too heavy for this compact tractor to move. But with a little persuasion and 4x4 low gear, I got it to move. Unfortunately, in doing so, I racked and bent my front end loader frame. What followed was an unimaginable wait from the Kubota Corporation for the needed parts. I accept that these are different times and that many warehouses and parts distributors are closed or understaffed during the COVID19 pandemic. At any rate, here's my story about my experience with KTAC insurance. Thanks for watching!

    I too bent my LA535 loader with my grapple on the larger LX2610. It was on backorder so it took a couple months to replace but they did right by me.
    BTW pick up and delivery is included with the insurance.

    I'm sure here in Ontario the policy would leave you out in the cold. $350 is dirt cheap for a new loader. UR lucky.

    I also had a bent FEL on my 1962 Case 430... Bought it as is. You can conclude it was not covered! I cut the FEL where the frame stretched used binders to bring it back to the right geometry, then weld it back. I can't imagine what abuse the previous owner did with a dirt bucket to bend the FEL... One thing for sure, a grapple and a large log can do it easily! Thanks Ed for sharing!

I have a full day of work to do tomorrow on my BX25D tomorrow digging trenches for footings for the new garage. I will be thinking about your situation and take it slow and easy. I have a lot of work to do and cant lose my tractor for four days let alone months. Always remember to enjoy the fun of running these machines, it beats running a shovel or rake.

    Thanks for this video! I'm picking up a small BX1880 for my 1-acre property. I would love a backhoe tractor but it's too much machine for my small property. The financing states that I need insurance, so I will go with KTAC insurance.

    Glad you gotter fixed. I know we all do things we probably shouldn't with our tractors and sometimes, as you said we expect to much out of them. I have a Coworker who has a L 3800 kubota and he lives about 3/4 of a mile off a county private road and he was burning a brush pile. The fire got away from him and while he was fighting it his tractor ran off over the hill and busted the rear axle housing and the implement he had on the 3 point hitch busted the PTO housing ruining his tractor. Thankfully he bought insurance and Kubota fixed it for him. He said at the time this happend he only owed about three months till the machine was paid off. I guess the policy was for the duration of the loan. I don't know if he had any out of pocket but for the amount of damage he was very lucky to get it fixed. Those are real nice tractors.

  • @ShaneZettelmier
    @ShaneZettelmier 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    If that it happened with a bucket I would say that the loader should’ve tipped the tractor over before it broke the loader but when you have the grapple on there and it’s grabbing from both sides it’s transferring the energy in the form of a twisting motion. I’m glad you had coverage that will fix it still. :)

    I have owned a BX1500 with the loader for 19 years. You can’t imagine what I’ve done with that loader. A year ago i bought a L3301, after a week the bucket had a tweak to it.
    The bucket would lay 1/2” to 3/4” off floor on one side. I only loaded gravel and dirt with it nothing else. The front edge of the loader bucket also wore down uneven from leveling a 150 foot driveway. The same driveway I have done with the BX1500 for 19 years including a friend’s driveway thats 2000’ long. I don’t believe Kubota is using the same steel on their loaders. It’s softer steel and now you need to buy the blade attachment to avoid the wear. And buy the insurance.

    Everybody buys the smallest tractor and does the bigger job with it. Nobody buys the bigger tractor for little smaller work. For that tree you needed alt least 50 hp tractor with 1000kg loader. Never push trees. Always lift them. Or pull with a 8t winch. With your small wheels you generate enormous torque and so pushing power in comparison with the strength of the loader. You gonna bent it. But be Happy this lesson was only that expensive. I saw last week a tym 26ph with broken frame. Be safe. Greetings from Belgium

    Glad to see you were not injured, I have operated machines of all types and can say it's bad when things take a left turn. Awesome to see Kubota had your back! Maybe ponder a heavier machine, B or L size. Also it is rare to hear the humble account of an fellow kubota owner's misadventure. In the end no injuries but bent metal and a little dent in pride. Cheers and keep rolling.

    Traded my BX25D on a new B2601. I had paid cash for the BX but decided to take advantage of the 0% financing on the B2601 and did what you did, rolled the cost of the insurance into the loan. You never know exactly what will be covered until you need it and exercise the insurance and yours is the only video I’ve come across that talks about using it in a real life situation. Very informative and helpful, hopefully I’ll never need to use it. Thanks much for the video.

      If you get a loan on the equipment, they require you to get the insurance. Or prove that your business insurance will cover it.
      It's like requiring full coverage on a car you have a loan on.
      That being said, for what it cost it's a no-brainer. If you've got a good dealer.

    Probably not as humiliating as my story!!! I didn’t even had my brand new 2601 for a full day and had big old tree fell on my tractor across the hood and dash. I was devastated… called KTAC and dealer. First, they were laughing so hard, but in the end they fixed everything like new, no questions asked. Dealer even came to my house to pick up my tractor. Insurance from Kubota is worth every penny in my book! Love your videos, keep them coming.

    When I bought my BX1880, the KTCA insurance wasn’t explained to me as a policy that covered any damage. They just quoted a price and said yes,it’s more expensive than coverage by my own policy. I also bent my loader. If I’d known the full extent of the coverage KTCA offered, I would have given it serious thought. I’m disappointed my local dealer was not clear on the insurance, nor did they offer adequate training for a new tractor owner.

    When moving similarly sized logs to a mobile sawmill I was worried about the same thing. I ended up using my box blade and lifting/rolling it with the 3 point. It's stronger lift and stiffer. Of course you had your chipper on it, and TBH I would have tried the same thing. Bummer it happened to you. Sharing this will help the rest of us so thanks for the humility and honesty.

    Thanks for posting this video. This morning I received a text from a guy I lent my L2501 to. Apparently, he got the tractor at a bad angle and tipped it over. He used a heavy duty strap and his 4 x 4 truck to get it back up on it's tires but some parts got damaged in the process. I too, have the KTAC insurance on my 2018 tractor. I've never used the insurance and hope that his homeowners insurance will cover it especially in light of the depreciation aspect you mentioned about the parts that have been broken and the fact that it will cost him something above an beyond the deductible. Thanks again for sharing.

    • @MyClutteredGarage
      @MyClutteredGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That really stinks, but he's lucky to be ok. The KTAC deductible is reasonable so don't rule it out. And if the broken parts are considered part of the tractor, they should be covered. Good luck!

    When I bought my Kubota 4 yrs ago, i was torn between the L2501 and the L4701, the largest compact tractor. While I only have about 5 acres with a quarter mile gravel drive, my salesman repeatedly tried to sell me the smaller tractor but the price point pushed me to the larger tractor w/ 6 verses 4 foot implements . While having a hard time deciding and not sold on the salesman’s advice, I figured a bit large was more desirable then a bit small. And the larger tractor came standard with working cruise an option I really really wanted. 4 yrs later, I can honestly say I made the right choice and have no regrets, great Vlog, be safe out there amigo!

    Ed, I believe that Kubota requires KTAC insurance if you finance the tractor. My experience with KTAC claims with my BX have been all positive for sure. I am reminded that 'Stuff happens". I took delivery of my 2601 yesterday. As the driver pulled the tractor off of the truck, the ROPS was up. I made a mental note that I had to drop those when driving it into the garage.... You know where this is going. I failed to drop the ROPS and promptly drive into the exterior trim boards of my garage!!!!! No damage but first blood is drawn! Stuff happens. All good. Best

    KTAC insurance can be purchased without any financing. If you pay for your tractor in full upon purchase, then KTAC must be purchased within 30 days of the payment. Also, KTAC does not cover general liability. If you hoe through an electrical line or gas line or run into another vehicle with your snowplow or bucket, then you are not covered by KTAC.

    Standard kubota wait time on parts is 7-10 days, freight is 10-15 days once shipped. Because of covid the three main kubota warehouse that service the east coast had multiple shutdowns, causing a extremely large back log of orders needing to be shipped out. Keep safe and keep the videos coming.

    I'm surprised in reading the comments how many have had similar issues bending the loader assembly. I have had my New Holland TC40 since 2003 and for close to 2500 hrs. I take care of it, but also work it to it's limits and beyond at times. I have moved logs, rocks, trees and more for hundreds of feet with the loaded rear tires in the air and thankfully never had a single issue. The bucket still sits perfectly square to the ground. The first few times I was nervous that I might cause some damage, but after that I just knew she could take it. Best of luck with your new loader, I hope they made some improvements so you don't have this problem again.

    Sub-compact tractors and compact tractors get abused more from lack of knowledge/thought than about any other size of equipment. People buy them and the equipment seems "large" to them. When in reality the equipment is smaller than they perceive. In your case you where trying to move a log that weighed tons with a loader that is rated to lift 950 lbs. Be happy that you where not hurt. Also be very thankful that it only cost you $300 or so. $300 does not buy many parts anymore.
    P.S. Kubota has often been slow for large attachments/parts like your loader. Currently the Covid issue is wrecking the supply side of things for many manufactures.

  • @briangc1972
    @briangc1972 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The front end loader should be built well enough that it doesn't bend if you try to lift something too heavy. The loader should be able to fully withstand the hydraulic forces. If the object is too heavy for the tractor, it should not bend, it should just not be able to lift it. I personally have over loaded my Branson tractor and that is what happened; it just didn't budge. Raised my rpm's and pulled the joystick back and it just hummed as the hydraulics tried to lift the load. No bending of the loader, no twisted arms or frame. Kubota does not make as good a tractor as other brands. There are other videos of guys cracking the frames on Kubota tractors and bending the frames. I'm glad I bought Red instead of Orange. Cost less too!

    New subscriber. You were honest about what you did to damage your loader, that was a huge thing in watching your video, you didn't try and blame the company, you knew you were probably pushing it too hard, and outright admitted it. Thanks for your honesty and your opinion and experience with KTAC...I'll definitely purchase KTAC when I get my tractor.
    If you have the money for toys you have the money for insurance, plain and simple... you just never know what could happen, and KTAC can be kept on your equipment forever if you wish, just like car insurance. The deductible is very minimal, even if you have to pay the difference on damaged attachments and in your case ~$350 is a hell of a lot cheaper than buying the loader out of your pocket LOL.
    My toy purchase got postponed for several months, but I look forward to getting one of those orange toys here soon though HAHA!!!....have a great week.

    Good day Ed! Thanks for sharing the story and very happy you weren't injured and also got looked after, despite the additional unexpected costs. Recognizing the delay caused by the pandemic, it would be good to know how long it took for the claim to be approved. in other words, if the parts had been sitting at your dealers lot, how quickly would they process and approve the claim. I chose not to get the KTAC insurance because it has no 3rd party liability. I did a couple of videos on this topic. The cost of the damage to the equipment is the least of your worries if you end up injuring someone, and/or yourself and/or damaging yours or someone else's property at the same time as the accident with the tractor. KTAC does not cover your medical bills, the other person's medical bills or damage to property or other things, as I understand it. It is limited to the tractor and covered implements. So I purchased insurance through an independent insurance broker here. I have $2 million of 3rd party liability in addition to the tractor and attachments etc, and it costs me about $28.00 a month. No matter what happens to me, someone else involved, the tractor, a building or other property whether it happens on my property or elsewhere, I am covered. I am not sure if such a coverage exists like that in the USA - there is only 1 insurance company that will cover compact tractors to that extent up here. Thanks again for sharing and glad you are back in business!

      That's great info, GP. My claim was approved in a couple weeks. There was also some delay because they had to calculate what my cost was going to be for the loader attachment. But to answer your question, I think this would have been resolved within a week or two if the parts were on hand. I should have mentioned that this entire claim was about $3,500. So I can't complain about paying just a little more than the $250 deductible. You're right about having liability insurance - especially if you're working with and around the people. It's always a good idea, and something worth looking into. Sounds like you found a great policy! Thanks for watching, for commenting, and for all your great content on GP Outdoors! -Ed

    Can't expect a great deal from an overgrown lawnmower; upgrade with a larger tractor; it don't have to be brand new, many great older tractors working everyday for the past 40 50 years and will continue working well for another 40 50 years. Just an opinion.

    Tip: Add the tractor an attachments as a 'scheduled' item on your home owners insurance. This was a zero cost item for me. Kubota was ok with it and still got 0% financing. Saved $1000's already. I'd recommend getting a Kubota model thats made in Osaka. Higher quality than the ones made in USA. Sadly.

    The insurance is well worth the cost, we run Kubota equipment on the farm which was a decision made by the partners many years ago. The insurance has been kept up on every piece, not knowing who is going to be running them each and every moment, could be lent to a neighbor or friend, accidents do happen, With all of our equipment purchased from the same dealer, they have gone out of their way to help with every claim. What you have to realize is that every major part. all the way down to buckets, is serial numbered and is registered to that tractor for future claims. Let's face it one piece of glass breaks, or you just plain wear a bucket out, and you are money ahead.

    There are WAY too many comments, I also bent my loader. Kubota should do a little something something to bolster the strength of this series. I wail on my BX in all the wrong ways and never bent the loader. I was thinking about upgrading to the B series, but now I don't know if that's a good idea. Also, has KTAC terms and conditions changed in the 9 years since I bought it? There was a clear stipulation that the tractor be used and stored on your residence. The insurance DID not follow the equipment. The dealer assured me that it wouldn't be a problem (using it offsite), but we know that verbal is as valuable as the paper it was written on. Sure I would probably been covered, but paying over $1000 for insurance that "might" have covered me rubbed me the wrong way.
