    I certainly don't want to be an armchair expert but I are a welder. Anytime your welding on a vehicle with electronics it's a good idea to disconnect one side of the battery to insure the circuit doesn't go through the electrical system. In this case the bucket wasn't attached but I wanted to pass that along before anybody had a problem. That's what the instructor told us anyway.

    I can tell you from experience both with ropes and chains snapping that when they spring back it's like that box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get. I've seen 'em go high, low, and sidewise. So in the bucket, on the bucket, either way, if you aren't using weight bags or a slack rope or something to dampen spring-back, you might end up eating the chain or rope. Almost anything heavy works. I'll fasten things to the chain. Oddments of steel such as disk brake disks or drums work great. Grain sacks with rocks in 'em work great too.

I should've looked for one with the safety clip, but I didn't. Btw...thanks to you and GP for saying the nice things about me the other night. LOL. I had the Hobart 140 and it was a great little welder. I upgraded to the Hobart 210 and what a big difference! Much more power to do the heavier jobs. It runs on 120 and 220 volts and it really shines on 220 when you need that extra penetration. Anyways you do have a great little welder.

    You are correct, chains will Not sling shot back. Those that think they will have not worked with chains.
    Sorry had to add, ive worked with many of the ratchet straps of various brands, and the “tow” straps that come with hooks on both ends.
    Very few of these have ANY spring stretch to them. Think about it,,, if ratchet straps had significant stretch, it would be difficult to obtain a constant hold down force.
    If you are using anything with a “spring back factor”,, it is NOT designed for any heavy duty pulling.

    Just bend your tape in half by putting 59 1/2 even with the end of your tape and it will give you the exact number. So if your measurement is 30 bend the tape by holding the number 30 even with the end of the tape and looking at the bend the number 15 will be in the middle!

    Chains don't slingshot, but straps do. (you said that. lol) That's a good idea. I think I'm going to do this, but mount two where you have your chain hooks. I might put a couple on my box blade too. I don't want them inside my bucket. I got one of those clamp on to the bucket receiver hitches, and a Reese hitch with three balls and the grapple hook, but it wiggles around and sticks way out. I like this better. I'm always dragging tree limbs and whole trees with mine. I have a flux core welder with the 030, but haven't put gas on it to do MIG. Hopefully it can get hot enough to splatter a weld on there. I see you have an amazon link there, I'll check it out to get what I need. I like your style and channel after 2 videos and subscribed. Thanks for not pimping out your wife on thumbnails and in your videos to get views. And a little constructive feedback - more than one mid-roll per ten minutes is excessive in my opinion. Take care, from the blue camp, 2016 LSG3033. P.S. what's that bike I saw in there?

    • @MyClutteredGarage
      @MyClutteredGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Much appreciated. You might want to grab some 035 wire for that project, as suggested to me afterward. I do joke with my wife about making some clickbait thumbnails, haha. The ads are automatic, but maybe I can go back and delete some. I appreciate the feedback. The bike is a Yamaha MT07. I checked out your channel too. Very nice! Thanks for stopping by! -Ed

    • @JeromeBeeFarm
      @JeromeBeeFarm 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MyClutteredGarage I think I have some 035. Not sure if I have the tip for that though. If you go to monetezation and click - manage mid rolls, you can adjust where they are at and if they put too many you can delete and add if you want. Sometimes they put them right before the end, and that is so annoying. I think the intro and the outro are the most important/cinematic part of the video. For me anyway. lol I had a Suzuki VStrom DL-650 looked similar to your bike. It was a fun ride. I had it all set up for long distance rides. I did an Iron Butt ride on it one time. (Once is enough) Thanks again.

  • @prow6586
    @prow6586 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ed, I'm impressed. Your welding looks better every project you weld. MIG + gas is the way to go vs flux core. But....why not try stick? There are 110 volt inverter stick welders out now that do a respectable job for us DIYers. I'm sorta the opposite history of you on welding. I started using stick a few years ago and last year bought one of those 120v/240v MIG machines. A month ago I got a good deal off Am.... for a 120v/240v stick welder. Only 20 pounds vs my 130# buzz box I've been using for 30 years! I can grab the new stick welder throw it in the truck and run over to a friends and weld up his broken railing or mower handle or...whatever. 🙄🙄 I digress.......Your welds are improving and I like the add-ons you are improving your tractor with! Thanks for the vids and ideas. Paul 🤠👍🇺🇸🍻

      Thank you so much for your kind words. I started out welding with an old Lincoln stick welder. It was OK for thick material, but terrible for thin material. I’m really happy with this 120 V mig welder. I recently purchased some thicker, solid core wire, and a big bottle of argon/CO2. Seems that most of my projects require thin metal welding. I’m sure I could do a better job today than I did on this project. I have a better understanding of feed rate and voltage now. Thanks again!

    Should use a backing plate to spread out the load on the bucket. You could pull a dent in it that way

    Thank you for posting! I like that the Hobart Handler 140 can run on 120volt! Will it run on a 15 amp breaker or does it need to be a 20 amp breaker? I have the Hobart Handler 190 and am loving it! I will be making these mods to my Kubota for sure!!

    I have to ask, you have the 60 inch bucket? You welded that onto the 3/16 inch thick bucket material? no backing? I'm curious how much weight you can lift, just seems to be a risk? Thank You

      @MyClutteredGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Arthur LeDoux thank you for your comment. That’s a good point, but I really think the material would withstand the capacity of the loader. I have only used it to drag some logs. I guess that’s why we have engineers though! 😄

    I am am not a tractor owner or a welder,
    Iam here to learn,
    Thanks for the many good vids.
    But,
    You already have the clevis and the chain,
    So why the steel eye and welding ?
    Why not put the chain through one or two of the existing hooks and attach the clevis to the chain ?
    Thanks for any attention you choose to give this.

    • @MyClutteredGarage
      @MyClutteredGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. The center clevis mounts just offers one more attachment point. It’s handy for attaching a nylon strap, and it’s often best to pull from the center of the bucket. I appreciate your interest.

    So, 3 year update? Have the hooks or clevis mounts bent your bucket? I use my tractor to move big rocks and logs and I'm concerned weld-ons will end up bending the bucket.

    Sorry, I really don't much about welding. Does this type of welder not require a metal stick that you melt to join two pieces? It appears that you actually are melting two pieces of metal together instead of "soldering" them together.

    • @MyClutteredGarage
      @MyClutteredGarage  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      This is a wire feed welder. Same principal as a “stick” arc welder but feeds thin wire as you weld. This one also uses mig shielding gas for a cleaner weld or flux core wire (no gas needed). Thanks for watching! -Ed

    Blows me away that these so called quality tractor manufacturers will not weld a couple of grab hooks on their buckets! WTF? Such a small addition that would be EXTREMELY useful, and not expensive! Just proves that the only thing ANY business is ultimately concerned with is their bottom line, not the end user.

    • @oldcountryman2795
      @oldcountryman2795 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The front end loaders and buckets aren't designed to pull from the top like that so they don't provide an attachment point. If you make this mod you really cannot put very much stress on those hooks. If you need to pull hard do it from the frame underneath the tractor. There are usually holes at the base of the frontloader attach points where you can attach a clevis. Pulling from between the axles is the most stable point to avoid flipping or tipping your tractor.

    How thick is the steel on oyour bucket

  • @michaelohara2161
    @michaelohara2161 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would not trust that for heavy use. It is probably ok for lifting ,but not heavy pulling.
    It would have been stronger if you V ‘d the chunk of steel. It would be stronger mounted to a thicker piece of plate mounted to the bucket. That bucket is basically sheet metal. Welding with a stick welder would give you better penetration.

    • @MyClutteredGarage
      @MyClutteredGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good points. The thick block comes with a nice bevel for welding, and I think the limited capacity of this compact tractor is safe for anything I’ll do with it. Thanks for watching.

    Yikes. Dump that 120v welder and move up to a 240v one for thick steel. I wouldn’t trust those welds on a 1” thick piece of steel like that, when “gluing” it together with a 120v welder.
