Ngl they really doin a good job. If only they had player cameras while they play it would be perfect. ChessbaseIndia has it but wish they only kept Sagar with his English commentary. Can't understand or not be annoyed from the yelling women there. Besides the convos are barely about chess half the time. Chess24 with Judith is decent. These guys only need to have player cams and fix there GUI to top them. They do have magnus and levy as partners.

This is by far the best recap format for chess. Having Magnus' insights really adds so much, Levy and Kaya are the perfect pair to give balance to all levels. I learned so much from the questions Levy was asking Magnus.

Just always show the board left and magnus right and adequately and adaptively change to the correct move, so the viewer sees exactly the move that is talked about without zooming. Also at 6:15 Magnus talks about a specific position versus Caruana, please show this position as a picture so the viewer understands what Magnus is talking about. Furthermore, I have a more general recommendation for the app, I hope you can forward that to the app designers/conceptual people: Please add more nuanced descriptions to the moves, not just: "Ding plays a3, a3 supports pawn X and makes a pawn chain". I think this is way too simple for most app users, as you have to already know the basics of chess to even achieve interest in pro matches. Therefore it seems unnecessary to state the obvious, a bit more nuanced might be something like the following, where also unnecessary words like playernames and misc. are omitted: "a3: with the plan of possibly advancing the b-pawn. This may lead to an attack via the e-file in the lategame. Black seems to have counterplay and may consider immediately starting a kingside pawn-wave".
I actually find the recaps super hard to follow just because of all the weird camera action. Just put the board on the screen and progress through the moves like normal....
Awesome recaps. Magnus and Levy make an unexpectedly great pair. Magnus's high level insight and his perspectives as an experienced player, coupled with Levy's charisma (and still a very high understanding of the game) is a delight to watch. Basically, the best chess player + the best chess commentator and content creator.
I think it is the difference between their level as chess players. Levy asks questions that we all want to know because of that. If it was a panel of two super GMs, most of the points that audience want to know will remain un discussed as it would be a common sense for them. For example we got to know that this particular variation in italian is not as common, but magnus had it in his notes so it was nothing new for him
It's an incredibly smart match. They each can be said to have the biggest audience/greatest amount of social clout in the broader sphere of Chess As A Thing Worldwide, but they have juuuuust perfectly different niches with juuuuust the right amount of overlap. Their combined reach/fanbase spans from my buddies' 4-year-old girl to, like, probably at least one 100+ year-old former grandmaster who barely uses the internet lol. And they're both hardcore about that hustle, but tend towards being independent and original with their income streams rather than be shills. Them starting a company like this, launching with good media content right before the WCC match? I can't say for sure of course, but I get the feeling this has been in the making for quite a while, and that the two of them have very ambitious plans for this new pro-sports-inspired slice of the chess media world they're creating. Makes sense that our guys would be about some 5D chess rn

These type of recaps are worth more than gold. We have arguably the best player to ever do it talking about insides and gives his thoughts. Levy is fantastic and hilarious like ever and the chemistry between those two is amazing!! Also Kaja is doing a great job hosting all of that and asking good questions ❤️

@2:56 why are we staying away from notations? Those are the most efficient way to communicate piece and board position. I don't think dumbing things down makes it more inspiring to newcomers. These newcomers will grow into these notations.
i assumed they mean long strings of verbal notations that are hard to follow i like it, more focus on the general match rather than a deep breakdown of the moves which works better for this kind of interview format
I understand trying to limit the rattling off multiple variations, especially when there is no board on screen. But if they go slowly and illustrate their points with the analysis board (as they did towards the end of the game) I think there is a balance to be had to help make algebraic notation more approachable to beginners, which is important to try to grow the game (and the app).
That's true but first day they uploaded at 3 am so I thought it might be sooner yesterday. Now I think I have to watch it 1 day later but maybe match timing is too early for Levy that's why they are doing it late (I read that in US it ends around 6 or 7 am)
The broadcast is meant to be more accessible, hence no notation. During their live commentary they're also demonstrating with a physical board with a GM explaining things, not going through 50 stockfish variations.
Came here to say the same. Magnus and Levy are aware of what the channel is trying to do but there’s no need to dumb it down to the point where you use no notation at all. These are fun recaps because they’re not picking apart every single position and going into deep analysis. Using notation to point out key moments isn’t something that should be discouraged

It's incredibly easy to look at a grid and see where a5 is, especially if you highlight it on screen with an arrow as they're talking. I think this was a positive game for Ding. He doesn't want to risk anything unless he gets a favourable position. This seemed like a positional grind, in which Gukesh might be a favourite.
My only comment on this recap is that I am missing the notation. I understand trying to make the language approachable, but I also think there’s something to be said for being able to visualize the moves.
I never thought I would say this, but this show is slowly becoming my favorite WCC show. I never liked Levi or his content. However, The dynamic between Magnus and Levi in the discussion is really refreshing, the conversation is not too complex for us mere humans, because of the level differences between Magnus and Levi, I am loving it.

I think minimizing notation restricts the detail in their notation. I understand newer players will struggle to follow, but I think clearer editing with labeling the moves displayed will help bridge the gap. Loving this content so far!
13:17 100% agree. I had an opponent do that to me in a classical otb game. I waited a few seconds until I lost my patience. I put my pieces away and walked away without a handshake. Don't be rude to other players or expect similar treatment.
The Take app is so great at work I can just take a look its nice app without having to watch any commentary and all just moves and some engine moves and the UI is so nice very well built app !!
Seriously. Make the editor work hard to show us the positions. Just make Magnus and Levy explain what position they’re starting on to make us and the editors know what’s going on.
I actually like this style because it forces them to discuss ideas a bit more intuitively. I like when they use more words than notation because you don't have to visualize *and* translate.

If you are following professional level chess, you know chess notation. We just need a board with the letters and numbers on it. If someone says a move, just have a board with the position and show it. Also don’t zoom into the board… that was jarring
yeah,I feel like using notation to idenitfy a piece/move and a move or two after is perfectly fine, otherwise the descriptions get very convoluted. I do like the idea of avoiding long lines of notation, which is what I think the intent of the restriction that Kaya gave was. I remember the early days of the online rapid commentary with Kaya and David Howell, avoiding notation got really silly sometimes.
Why are we keeping them away from saying actual moves, for any duration of time!? But ok, any analysis by the no.1 is enticing and Levy’s back seat gaming makes these recaps great!

Notice how Magnus says food poisoning causing him to not push the slight advantage for white. It is symbolic as a game between him and Vidit also in an Italian and with the white pieces where he offered a draw very early in the game was cuz he had food poisoning

Don't discourage them from using notation! Today was an good compromise, but notation does make it easier to follow than some vague description.

I think this was a positive game for Ding. He doesn't want to risk anything unless he gets a favourable position. This seemed like a positional grind, in which Gukesh might be a favourite.
The fact is the gukesh will play aggressively to equalize the score which will give Ding chances
My only comment on this recap is that I am missing the notation. I understand trying to make the language approachable, but I also think there’s something to be said for being able to visualize the moves.

I never thought I would say this, but this show is slowly becoming my favorite WCC show. I never liked Levi or his content. However, The dynamic between Magnus and Levi in the discussion is really refreshing, the conversation is not too complex for us mere humans, because of the level differences between Magnus and Levi, I am loving it.
@@Mashwag as someone who is also named Aaron, it’s shocking you dislike Levy. Not liking his content is one thing, but a few videos will show you he’s a pretty stand up guy who is finally seeing success after years of working in his field. He’s living a lot of peoples dream and it’s all because he grinded and worked hard to get to this point. Can’t hate a guy like that myself

I think minimizing notation restricts the detail in their notation. I understand newer players will struggle to follow, but I think clearer editing with labeling the moves displayed will help bridge the gap. Loving this content so far!

Seriously. Make the editor work hard to show us the positions. Just make Magnus and Levy explain what position they’re starting on to make us and the editors know what’s going on.
I actually like this style because it forces them to discuss ideas a bit more intuitively. I like when they use more words than notation because you don't have to visualize *and* translate.

If you are following professional level chess, you know chess notation. We just need a board with the letters and numbers on it. If someone says a move, just have a board with the position and show it. Also don’t zoom into the board… that was jarring
yes, some things in chess can't actually be described without chess notation
yeah,I feel like using notation to idenitfy a piece/move and a move or two after is perfectly fine, otherwise the descriptions get very convoluted. I do like the idea of avoiding long lines of notation, which is what I think the intent of the restriction that Kaya gave was. I remember the early days of the online rapid commentary with Kaya and David Howell, avoiding notation got really silly sometimes.
Why are we keeping them away from saying actual moves, for any duration of time!? But ok, any analysis by the no.1 is enticing and Levy’s back seat gaming makes these recaps great!

Notice how Magnus says food poisoning causing him to not push the slight advantage for white. It is symbolic as a game between him and Vidit also in an Italian and with the white pieces where he offered a draw very early in the game was cuz he had food poisoning

Lets be honest if magnus decides to play in wc just for showcasing his skills i bet that would make so much international headlines and chess popularity single handely...but we r so unfortunate bcoz fide wont change the format ..i mean they can do this just for once see if its good then keep that forever.
I love these recaps with levy and Magnus. However in regards to the board, is it not possible that levy does it in a similar way like on hos own channel? He obviously knows the best way to show the board and moves for the whole world. No need to reinvent the wheel worse😅
