18:45 I really like this idea of choosing the MVP (Most Valuable Piece) in a chess game. Because they have to explain the reasoning, it helps viewer understand how good a piece is relative to the position.
I believe Ding thinks he is a lot weaker than he actually is. He probably saw a lot of those missed opportunities in earlier matches but was "no if even I can see that's a mistake my opponent would surely be able to see that as well" and basically talked himself out of taking these opportunities and even today you could see him struggling with his confidence but then something just snapped inside his head and he basically said "ah f*ck it" he just started trusting his intuition again which lead to this incredible victory. I really hope Ding gained some more confidence through this match
Agreed. I think something fundamental about Ding's psyche changed in those 30 minutes or so. Though I am below 1000elo, even I know what overthinking a move can do. I play much better when I am just winging it, so it must be a similar thing for top players.
Yeah he talked about that in the interview after the game. When he thought 30min on 1 move it was because he couldnt really remember his prep in the line to well but wasnt confident enough to play out of prep with his own idea. Eventually he decided to just go out of prep and it worked out great.
He is finding out that watching the players as a fan from outside while they struggling for 6 hours and then being asked stupid questions afterwards is way more enjoyable than being there as the player 😂😂

There's still the mystery about what Ding was thinking about during 28 minutes he took to play his 7th move. Surely he wasn't out of his preparation already given that he had steered the game into the opening he wanted, the French Defense. I wonder? Was Ding's strategy before this game to provoke Gukesh into over-extending and to then counterattack? Or perhaps to make the decision at some point whether to proceed with that or close down the position and play for a draw. I'm inclined to think that when played his 7th move, a7-a5, he had already planned on playing a4-a3 with the Queen on a5 wanting to provoke b2-b4 creating the outpost on c4 he could exploit with his Knight. Maybe even his appearance of being traumatized and frozen, and incapable of making a decision, was all an act intended to make Gukesh over-confident.

I like for Magnus they put “Grandmaster” under his name but for Levy it was just “Gothamchess”
GC > GM
More than 1500 Grandmasters. Only one Gothamchess 😆
@@ykobrngo3476 lol nice joke
@@darkdragonx650Many content creators Like him but only one GOAT
@@nikhildawani2913 levy is the biggest reason for magnus' popularity
Take take take is now my new favorite channel! The livestream of the WCC is innovative, accessible, and relatable, while the recap is on point! You're killing it, guys!😊🙏💕👏
I watched the match live. And this is the 4th recap I am watching.
Wow, Magnus Shows Great presentation Skills here, didn’t know that he could find such a clear voice and excitement.
I also enjoy the combo between levy and magnus
i think he was drunk
🏆 KING DING CHILLING WINNING 🏆
KING DING BING QILIN
Ding Chilling!
Glad to see him win the first game, regardless of how this series goes Ding building some confidence is good for chess fans!
17:19 Magnus really roasted Gukesh here 😅
yeah it almost felt as if he was holding it in during the entire video and then just said "f*ck it"
😂@@paulmorales1607
@@paulmorales1607 he went off 🤣🤣
Yeah haha why did India send this random 18 year old kid who doesn't know how to play chess 😂
@@SR-fs2fdIndia didn't "send this dude" he played the candidates and won simple as that don't be like that
There is a reason he is the champ. Ding's resiliency is immense
Watched a lot of recaps of this game but this is my favorite by far. Keep it up, I love this app!
out of excitement i've watched so many recaps by now and this one is by far the best one
Magnus recap is great because he has been there so he knows what the players are feeling, and he is also a super gm, heck he is above the level of Ding and Gukesh, so he can commentate and analyze and criticize each player without sounding hypocritical or just following engine talk, and Magnus is also pretty good commentator and explaining both the chess position itself and all the physological and mental parts of the game too.
watch csquared recap, its the best one
I can't stop grinning, what a top game from Ding!
form is temporary but class is permanent is the perfect analysis of the first match
Ding after Game 1: Call an ambulance!, but not for me! 😂😂
I’m a huge fan of what take take take is bringing to chess… so much style, kudos!
Take Take Take is giving us the opportunity to hear Magnus Take on the match 😁
Loved the video , I like how you analyzed emotions and strategy and not only the moves in engine style 😊
Watching the livestream for this was fantastic - really great production from the Take Take Take team and Hammer was incredible on commentary as expected!
#NoMercy from Magnus with the commentary was fantastic.
This is the content I've been wishing for for the past few years, let's go! Magnus and Levy together is amazing
This analysis is really a good start for a world championship!
Great recap, compliments the “pure game” recaps very well
I watch Hikaru and chess 24 back and forth live commentate the game, then watched Hikaru live stream his recap, then watched Danya recap on chess 24, then watched Hikaru recap again on TH-cam. Now Magnus and Levy on TTT. The day can’t be anymore productive😞😞
I appreciate Magnus being so honest. Is there another sport where the best ever says, ‘that dude was horrible. Didn’t do one thing right’ 😂😂😂
That's probably one of the reasons he's so good. He is the ultimate objective thinker. There are no excuses, only honest logic.
I absolutely like this format a lot and it is much better than them recapping the whole game from move one.
love to see ding is back in form, this will be a great match
I love the Most Valuable Piece section. Definitely a great addition to the format
Love this format! That y’all!!!
Downloaded the app, great looking layout. Thought it was neat it asked what hand I hold my phone with, haven’t seen that before.
Love to see Magnus building a financial future for himself outside of chess. Will be using the app for sure!
Keep thriving levy i will be super happy when you become GM love from Egypt ❤️🇪🇬
he surely will become a General Manager soon
he will become a grandmother any moment now
I think it would be fun if Magnus trained him and they filmed it for content
@@chesneytube1 that would be awesome content, like a bootcamp
@@EliasOjeda-mv6cg yeah they could make it funny... play up the fact that Magnus is getting involved in all of these tournaments that are way below his level. Maybe he'd have to lay low so as not to make a scene
GM Sadler on his stream mentioned this game which had also been won with the black pieces during a first game of the world championship :
Tigran Petrosian vs Mikhail Botvinnik
Botvinnik - Petrosian World Championship Match (1963), Moscow URS, rd 1, Mar-23
Nimzo-Indian Defense: Classical. Noa Variation (E34) · 0-1
17:30 Magnus going ape shii on Gukesh 💀🤣
I really enjoyed this recap. It's like Levy's recaps but even better, for obvious reasons.
Hope we'll get recaps for all the upcoming matches.
Refreshing type of recap video.
Love the dynamic duo. They were great as always. The only thing i wish was different was that they'd gone over the entire game. Maybe it was so people who wanted to see the game would go to the app instead but I'd love to hear magnus' thoughts and insights if possible.
lol @17:00 magnus shitting on gukesh for 2 minutes. Hard to argue with Magnus. Love the brutal Norwegian honesty.
Never seen Magnus this full of energy. Could easily imagine him retiring from top chess and being involved in the analyst side of things
Really like Magnus and Levy but i hope we will get Magnus and Fabiano commentary. Especially Fabi has experienced the WCC and Magnus as former WC is the best duo to do commentary.
Wow amazing content! Something new and innovative! Plus you get the thoughts from the GOAT. I'm in love with this kind of coverage on chess :)
Thats what we needed as a chess community
Incredible recap. Best of breed! Keep the amazing job!
I honestly think this guy is super smart and it would be great if he could coach our Levy on his road to GM🙆🏻
Enjoyable format! One suggestion: please undo the "extreme brightness" setting on the chess board... I had to pause the video to make my screen dark enough to see the board. Thanks. 😅
I think Ding is happy to see Richárd Rapport; it totally changed him.
NOT THE FREAKING FACETIME LIKE 😭😭💀4:07
I like the MVPiece idea.
Queen diff
Goin back to this recap after watching game 2. Magnus' prediction is spot on!
it is better to let levy ask questions and magnus answer. that would be much exciting.
Levy Is there just to bait his fanbase into this new and unlikely to get traction magnus' project
Magnus, Thank you for making the recap. Expecting a lot of content and analysis from the Real World Champion.
This content is absolutely golden
