I'm 65, and I became a HUGE Stooges fan in about 1960, watching reruns on Saturday morning on an Admiral black and white TV. I remember it so well. The Three Stooges and then, Flash Gordon, Sky King, and Circus Boy (Micky Dolenz of The Monkees). I remember also, about 20 years ago, my mother-in-law was visiting from Italy (she doesn't speak English), and we were watching "Disorder in the Court," and when Curly fell off the witness stand, my mother-in-law laughed hysterically for ten minutes! A great memory in our family.

About 27 years ago I woke up in ther middle of the night, around 3am, and saw the downstairs light was on as well as the TV. I slowly walked down ther stairs and I looked around the corner to see my then, 2 yr. old daughter laying on the couch watching the 3 Stooges and laughing and laughing... she still loves them too this day !!!

The 3 Stooges still do for me today what they did when I was 6yo: Entertain me, make me smile and I feel better. After a long day at school I could count on seeing them sometime between 3PM and 6PM. It helped reduce my stress and I looked forward to that. With no other way to make it up to them, Joe Besser and Joe DeRita included, I can honor their memory only by continuing to enjoy their acting. Once stowed away on a Russian Submarine, Shemp makes everybody sick by eating a sausage while they all became seasick. They didn't show it but where do you throw up in a Submarine? Both Curley and Shemp did the plumbing scene in the tub, creating a cage of piping. Priceless.

Shemp was an absolute natural comedian..he was brilliant, and proved that with his comedy roles in other films WITHOUT his brothers.. But put 'em together, and they owned.. and STILL own, a viewing army of fans in the millions!

In my view, it was MUCH more than just the old addage labels of them being "silly" "stupid" or "crazy" as you often hear. The stooges were comic geniuses that were far ahead of their time and did in such a way that can be imitated but never duplicated.

Chaplin has received an Honorary Oscar; The Marx Bros have an honorary Oscar..... The Three Stooges and Abbott & Costello are long overdue for theirs.

    • @dariowiter3078
      @dariowiter3078 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The Stooges, along with Abbott & Costello, didn't write their own material; in other words, both teams weren't "creative" comedians like Chaplin, Stan Laurel of Laurel & Hardy, and, the Marx Brothers. It's very doubtful that the Stooges or Bud & Lou will get that honor from the Academy.

+Montana Tapia-Reyes You will not get an argument from me on them being funny, but the Stooges wrote very little creative stories that Chaplin and Stan Laurel did in their prime. That's why they will never win an Oscar ever.

Its actually pretty sad you have to have a disclaimer to explain to a so called educated society that you can't hit someone in the head with a hammer! We grew up with the "violence" of the three stoodges, bugs bunny, road runner etc, yet I guess we were so stupid we never hit anyone with a hammer, dropped and anvil on our head,or shot ourselves in the face with a gun.

RJ- Back in the early 60s a moron neighborhod kid shouldered a wooden stock and steel-barrelled rifle replica and purposely did an about-face to hit me (in the eyebrow) with the barrell, much like how the stooges might do...that about-face put a small dent in my eyebrow that i have to this day, so there were idiots out there back in the 60s imitating the stooges. However I never would want the stooges (or old cartoons) censored for that type of slapstick, or any other reason.

The Farrelly brothers did nothing to rekindle the fame of The Three Stooges. The Stooges have always been famous and loved and always will be.

Shemp started out first before Curly. After he left, Curly came on. After Curly became ill and couldn't continue with the show, Shemp came back.

    $60,000 in 1940 would be $984,000 today.
Divided by three = $348,000 each today.
Good money. But not what they deserved.

I've been showing groups of kids old 3 stooge shorts every summer for the last 4 years. They absolutely Love Them and I've yet to have any problem with them acting it out in any serious way on anyone. Kids are not that stupid, at least most of them.

When I was in elementary school in the 60's, on rainy days during recess, our teachers would set up a film projector in the auditorium and show Three Stooges shorts. Education was so much better in those days.

And don't forget Shemp he was Amazing they both had their own crafts Curly and Shemp Lot of people don't know that first it was Shemp, but he went to vaudeville Brother Curly stepped in Currently had suffered a few strokes after nineteen thirty nine and then in nineteen forty six a Debilitating stroke And this is where people need to know. Moe and larry were in trouble They knew the act would end but Shemp As a brother stepped up to the plate. And took over for his brother and did a marvelous job at that beyond a marvelous job I can remember coming home after all. Rough day at school or if I was not in a good mood they always made me laugh. I miss all of them even though I never met them. I felt my heart. I knew them RIP You Nuckleheads... 😢

Yeah, no! They took on Hitler, poked fun at the U.S. political elites. A lot of their themes poked the gilded age/great depression. They just did it with their usual genius.

In 1939, $60,000 split three ways is $20,000 and adjusted for inflation, that would equal $350,000 a year per Stooge in 2018.

The Stooges toured in addition to making the shorts. I liked the movie. I think Moe would have approved the way the Jersey Shore gang were beat up.

Many don't know that Shemp was the original Stooge. He did all the Vaudeville shows and he was in the first Three Stooges film. He wanted to do his own thing and so Curly was brought in.
