What do you mean "I have to"? If you are not feeling comfortable doing something, don't rush into it. Maybe you aren't ready to meet the parents as yet... I do wish you good luck on that day
1. Don't try to impress too much, give your own opinions 2. Don't be cold with the colder person in the room 3. If in doubt, be affectionate 4. Complement liberately 5. Respect the protector in the family 6. Help out when you can 7. Bring something that shows you thought of them 8. Don't be in a hurry to show how much you love your partner 9. Don't be to eager to show your success 10. Don't gossip
What you said about gossiping reminded me of a guy I used to date who used to say only mean things about his exes. Every time he was talking about them I immediately tought: "who knows what he's gonna say about me once we break up". It is indeed very unattractive
I am meeting my boyfriend's mother tomorrow and I am excited... she seems like a great person... from what I hear. I am not really nervous... I feel really confident that she will really like me... parents usually do like me. 🥰 My boyfriend met my parents a couple of weeks ago and it went so well. My family is really likeable and creates the most amazing environment that people usually wanna be a part of. That really put my boyfriend at ease. My dad has a lot of respect for my boyfriend for being an upstanding guy who treats me well. Wish us luck! Things are going well!
Yeah my family is really accepting but then my boyfriends family is super if not overly cautious about anyone dating their son. They don’t know what to think about me yet.
When I see you uploaded a video, I rush to see it as soon as possible It gives me a big smile It's so heartwarming to see how generous and caring you are Thank you for your existence matt^^
1)Don't try to empress too much 2)Don't be cold to the coldest person in the room. Don't alienate them. Kill them with kindness 3)If in doubt be affectionate. If you are an hugger, hug. 4)Complimate people and be kind 5)Respect the protector of the house (mother or older sister) 6)Help when you can. At least offer to help. 7)Bring something. Better if it is something connected to them. Try to be original and specific. 8)Don't be over-affectioned with your partner. Don't try to show how amazing is your relationship 9)Don't try too hard to show your achievements and good qualities. Don't seek attention, let them find out your achievements with time. 10)Don't gossip!!!
This was a great video way more helpful than the others I've seen, where they state obvious "tips" like "smile" and "be nice"! These tips were actually informative thank you!
Thank God I'm watching this right now, I'm going to a baby shower this Sunday, and I needed to know what to do and what to say! Thank you so much Mathew You!
Thanks a lot for this video Mat! Even though I already met my partner's family in 2008 for the first time and I get along with them very well it's always good to be reminded of the small things that make life easier - especially around this time of the year when everybody is very ambitious & eager to create special moments for the whole family to enjoy. Right now there are quite a few changes happening in our life and my sister in law is going through a rough time, so my husband's parents are a little worried, because at this point we're all in transition and nobody knows how / if our plans will work out. This video was really what I needed to remind myself of what they need from me right now. :)
I'm the girl everyone wants to match up with their sons. I've never met parents that didn't like me. But the guy himself, I sometimes find, gets annoyed because his family likes me so much he feels pressured to consolidate the relationship and all of a sudden it is their idea that he should settle down with me, not his. :/ Guess I've got to wait till I find a guy who is secure enough in the knowledge of whether he loves me for me, not because I tick all the boxes.
After meeting the family, say sth like: "I loved meeting your folks, but I love you and us the most and want us to progress at our own pace." Assuming you are happy with the pace the two of you are prgressing. If you want things to move faster, mention sth about how it's great the family sees the two of you as a couple and how that will help you two grow your relationship
Its not that you have to show it in front of other people. I think the easiest way to show it is to be it. To be kind, to be thoughtful, to be respectful, to help out, to avoid gossip.
Matt, Looking at your videos I can't help but ask myself, 'why isn't Matthew married?" I later realized that people like you come in the world to help others. Knowing what you know, the love will find you. You seem to put us first. X
He doesn't discuss his own relationships, so he may be. At his events none of his team wear a ring. I saw him say in an interview he didn't want his own relationship status to come under scrutiny so he keeps it private.
maybe he's just one of those people who chooses not to (get married and just stay single). Doesn't even have to be a player kind of mentality, just for some people that's not the end game, like some people not wanting kids.
I’ve been doing dishes and setting the table, and taking peoples plates when they are done with their dinner. It’s the least I can do for the wonderful meal they provided!
What worked well for me was at a family gathering, which had my anxiety through the roof. But forcing myself to be away from my GF as she would be my safety blanket. And speak with as many people as I could manage, then return back to my GF and relay any bits and pieces of information I gathered.. Massive win-win. I learned loads of cool stuff from a diverse range of people. And i think it showed her that "hmm, he wants to be part of the tribe" [or words to that effect]. Plus having a sort of order of gentle questions to ask.. I'm from the UK, and my GF's family loves football and film, so I could have some pretty interesting conversations pretty quickly.
You're like a friend to me Matt. I don't know if it's solely because of your videos, but I found the man of my dreams this summer. I'm meeting his family this weekend and of course I came here for a quick check.
These tips were on point!!!!! 👌 especially in regards to respecting the protector of the family and not showing too much affection for your boyfriend in front of the family. Makes things very uncomfortable for the family!!!
Here's a question for you: What should you do if the "protector"(i.e. mom) finds out something about you that makes them not like you anymore? My ex's mom found out I was an atheist after we'd been together about two years and went from loving me to hating me almost immediately. I didn't tell her, but it is a part of my life, she was bound to find out eventually.
In my culture, (West African) you should be nice, but yet quiet and well mannered. Not too many jokes or compliments.. In fact, you should avoid eye contact with the elderly, and not be too loud. And for the rest that he advised, definitely do. Gifts, cleaning up, connect with them etc.. And be yourself. :)
Thank you Matthew! Your tips are so dead on accurate! :) Everything you say really makes sense and have a reason. I was nodding my head & agreeing throughout the video hahaha. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Matthew! :)
When talking to a new friend I always say 'do you have any song recommendations I have completely run out of songs I like' some people will explode at the question and open their Spotify ect. If they say no then idk start talking about songs u like HAHABA
I remember during my University time, my boy friend brought me home to see his parents and friends. I screwed up and didn't regret. Now I work as an expat, it's so difficult to meet someone serious enough to bring me to their parents.
I found this video at a good time because I’m meeting my gf’s family on Black Friday when they’re having their Thanksgiving dinner. I’m nervous as heck because yAaAy, social anxiety

vidycz15 hahahahaha love it!!!
I like that part about respecting the protector.
Now that I've realized how much you can do wrong, I NEVER want to meet the parents haha. Seems so damn stressful!
Same .-. I have to next Wednesday and don't want to .
What do you mean "I have to"?
If you are not feeling comfortable doing something, don't rush into it.
Maybe you aren't ready to meet the parents as yet...

I have to meet them tomorrow night for dinner :/ helpp
1. Don't try to impress too much, give your own opinions
2. Don't be cold with the colder person in the room
3. If in doubt, be affectionate

Great video Matt. These tips are great for meeting anyone at anytime - not just the family. This is important advice for anyone out there.
Sexy Confidence g
I actually, agree with you Sexy confidence. I've just watched now and thought of replaying again with that mindset -of meeting anyone

I’m a week or so I’m meeting my boyfriends very conservative grandparents. They don’t even know I exist. I can’t see this going well.
Matt can you make a video on "how to tell if he wants something serious" ?
I've been dating this guy for a month and a half, it seems like everything is perfect. But at some points I doubt he might want a serious relationship :/
What are the signs?
He is a gentleman, picks me up leaves me at my doorstep every time, he holds my hand he seems to care, but today is the second time we get to hang out with a few "friends" in comon and we do as we're just friends :/
His closest friends know we're dating, idk what to think :c

This is what I need to hear today! thanks :)

But it's normal to do it and they like it, they feel you are warm and friendly. Also smile and talking about how it was your life in your country.
French people kiss but don’t hug. I remember the first time I met a British person, I kissed them and they were shocked haha I felt bad
The offer to help is important. My parents command me, so i always forget to offer. So when my partners asked to help to do the dishes, i am always pleasently surprised. Compliments need to be genuine; don’t compliment to impress. Anyone can see through fakeness.
Love your thoughts and words Matthew H every time!!

Thank you speak so much facts ! Helped me a lot
This is such a great video. Thank you!
