the sound design of this game is 10/10
its so mysterious ominous and spooky...idk as a child (in the pre-internet era) it kinda hit hard...literally felt u potentially gonna lose ur soul or something when losing xD
So true. And the battle animation made it look like some brutal gladiator fight, I could almost see the suffering of the defeated monster.
The soundtrack not only slaps, but is, most importantly, perfect for each and every single moment of the game. All of Seto's theme, the Kaiba pre-duel and duel in the "tournament finals", Both of Heishin's theme (duel, and non-duel), heck even the basic story duel VS anyone from the optional beginning of the game hit just the right buttons.
However, my favorite music piece of all has to be the Free duel music, it's, imo, the one that is a "didn't need to slap this much, yet fiery piano" meme worthy level
I actually finished this game when I was a kid and my whole strategy was basically just summon Twin-Headed Dragon and buff it up with equip spells

Yes, but that alone doesn't enough. You'll need insane luck too.
1. You must open the combo pieces (A thunder and a dragon, with 1600 atk at least either)
2. You must also open the equipment
3. Pray Seto and last bosses do not summon Ultimate Dragon first turn.
@MrCegeb if that doesn't work then go and grind for mbd and equips that work on it.
How to SILENCE "final 6":S/A tec Kaiba(crush card,acid trap hole,widespread ruin),Pegasus(megamorph,bright castle),fake trap to TRICK monsters into staying in atk mode,(MBD bulid)spellbinding circle(Simon Muran) & Shadi(Rakgeki,dark hole). That's AFTER getting S/A pow on LOW meadow mage for MBD,Skull Knight(ANTI Blue Eyes),Gaia & Dark Magician. Free duel Villagers for thunders,dragons & some zombies(dragon zombie needs ONE thunder),Rex for crawling dragon #2(needs 1 thunder),Bakura for defense cards to stall for fusing,low mountain mage & Atenza for birds(monstrous bird,wing eagle,crow goblin,blue wing crown that need 1 pyro for Crimson Sunbird) for EARLY/mage battles.
Twin headed Thunder Dragon is the friend we made all along.
The game is much more easier if you have meteor black dragon
@@r3zaful The problem is the RNG....Especially the highest you got was 0.1% against Mountain Mage with either S or A POW Rank. You are not gonna get that shit anytime soon with your normal playthrough and even grinding for it was such a CHORE!!!
@@zhaoyun255i have been playing too much gacha and 1% drop rate is generous, also you don't have to hard drop it, you can still use meteor dragon and black dragon to fuse it.
@@r3zaful The worst part was that getting Meteor Dragon in first place was even MORE difficulty than getting Meteor Black Dragon itself. 0.98% from Meadow Mage while you got better chance with Meteor Black Dragon 0.1% chance.
I played this game for countless hours growing up. I had to use a notebook to write down all the different fusions that I found to work. I don't think I realized at the time how bad this game actually was 😆
Playing Forbidden Memories is a core memory, and is 100% the reason I've been playing Thundra since 2019 lol

Dude, how to forget the million ways to make Twin Headed Thunder Dragon, Ushi Oni, Mystical Sand, the 5 card combo for Meteor Black Dragon, Flame Cerberus . Getting to the end of the game and the AI casualy droping 3.5k, 3.75k and 4.5k like nobodies business.
Even played the moded FM II which is harder but also exchanges a ton of cards with actual useful ones and it's so funny at times.
And by bad surely you mean innovative and fun

I loved this game when it came out. Game never really made sense and as a 6 year old I never really figured out exactly how to play, but I muscled my way all the way through the elemental temple part but I couldn't get past that lol.
I could never get past the final gauntlet. The MBD strat falls apart when Kaiba drops BEUD turn one.
@@hurrdurrmurrgurr nowadays the real strat is having monsters with the Mercury star sign and equiping them enough cards to reach at least 4100 atk so they can overcome BEUD's Sun star... skull knight for example won me the whole thing on my second playthrough, then later I got zoa and basically 3 MBD, 3 Skull Knght and 3 Zoa all equipped with enough cards will beat BEUD more consistently than relying on twin headed

It's a modified version of koushiki rule in the early yugioh with the play only 1 card every turn and no tributes.
This is the type of Yu-Gi-Oh that Rarran can understand

It can be done as their are ways to manipulate the drops but RNG still does play a big factor since you need to draw specific cards. Luckily they've introduced mods that increase the number of cards you get for winning so it's much faster, and say what you will this game is very addicting. Over 20 years later I still like to play this to kill time or just when I'm board. Scoring those MBD's or BEWD always feels good

Ive emulated this many times since. But I remember having the original MULTI CD GAME CASE that it took to run the whole game on PS1. And of course, the og grey, CD flip slot 😅

That was a cursed gemstone. But I loved it even played it in my childhood but I don't recall if we ever finished the game
This game had very good ideas, but most of the potentially obtainable cards (including Gate Guardian/BEUD) were locked behind the PocketStation AND behind japanese saves as well... unless you put a cheating device to unlock ALL cards

I've watched hours of this game played on streams and never knew there were monster animation cutscenes. Everyone always skips them or turns them off

The only way this game was bearable was with multiple memory cards, 2 were nice to start with but the real magic came after getting a 3rd and grinding for a bit of starchips :)

15 cards drop mod actually help so much with the grinding. It is more fun and less grindy to get MBD.

Just alittle tidbit of info. The planet selection thing does matter. If u choose a planet that is beaten by another planet it will typically gain more attack during the damage step. Not a real rule on yugioh. But it was a cool little side thing to add to the game.

This game is still alive with a ps1 emulator(pc and android)..there are tons of mods if anybody still wants the nostalgia.
That battle animation reminds me of Digimon Digital Card Battle on PS1

I like both games but no way, Digimon does it way better (maybe because they try to make the monster "realistic" in Yu-Gi-Oh)

At the moment of release (and a couple of years later too) this game was one of the most addictive things ever ahahaha it was beautiful. from my memories it sure would rank as one of the top 10 ps1 games XD

Um actually this isn't even the first Yu-Gi-Oh video game, that title belongs to Yu-Gi-Oh! Monster Capsule: Breed and Battle for the Super Famicom. And if you want to say it's the first game to be released internationally, Yu-Gi-Oh! Dark Duel Stories released a day before in the States a day before Forbidden Memories.
