Been there before, but not quite as quick. In the pain cave, vision tunneling, staring at numbers that make no sense anymore, praying for it to end, and pushing beyond for another tenth of negative split in the last 500. That pain is simply exquisite.
Hi Cameron ! I want to know if you have some exercices to improve the rowing technic which can be realised when you are alone on the water (without coaches i mean). Moreover, thank you for your videos which allows me (and a great deal of poeple I think) to understand more about how to train myself in the best conditions. From a french yamsquad supporter
Hey Rex! Quite difficult to say since there isn't one drill that hits everything. Biggest tip would be to workout what your weaknesses are and then apply drills to those!
Wouldn't say it is the standard but that room in particular is very hot so little bit cooler with tops off. It also isn't a public gym so little bit more private
Great job! No program here just having fun doing a 2k! I've made plenty of 2k row tips though. More to come aswell! I'd say plan, fuel and recovery are three things to really stick to!
The only man's who never gets dislikes. Damn😂. Any tips for never getting nervous before these 2ks. Seems like you fly through em every week. I could never do that. That's scary
Swimmers often are successful at rowing because they are typically long and strong and have the right cardio. I recently saw a news article on TV about a swimmer who recently toke up rowing and she has been doing very well
The other non-physical factor is that to be successful at swimming, by the age of 16 or 18, you've had to get into good habits around doing a lot of volume in training and being disciplined with your life around that. There's a lot of transfer of decent-level swimmers into triathlon as well, partly because it gives them an advantage in the swim leg but also because they "know how to suffer". I'd bet Rowing needs the same mental ability in order to succeed.
My sister was a synchronised swimmer, she is 6ft ...amazing lung capacity after effectively doing gymnastic routines underwater whilst holding breath! She was super fit and flexible. Was offered a place on the GB start. She chose at the time to continue with her synchro, but they said she had all the physical and mental attributes to be a world class rower!
Ah, to see their faces pre-testing, knowing the amount of pain they are going to suffer in the next minutes! We've all been there, am I right? 😆😵
We know exactly what's coming there way! #yamsquad

Doing a 2k barefoot, now that's free speed!!
Takes me 8min. These guys are doing great.
I could feel his pain at 4:50 when he heard the 'halfway done' and already hurting that much
6:15 till 6:30 is fast in all normal books...
Agreed! Still some big yam going down! #yamsquad
Now, this is interesting. I see all three main body types among these lads, ectomorph, mesomorph, and endomorph.
Good to see you at Team Bath. Any thoughts on using their facilities for training? I see these guys in the gym on the ergs- absolute machines! Awesome
Facilities are amazing and really like them. I'm not a member there so don't have access to them for myself right now! #yamsquad
Talent transfers from rugby and swimming - interesting as there are proven rowers from both backgrounds
Indeed there are!
Hi cameron please can you give us a 2k training plan for a intermediate athlete?
Maybe one day once I find the time!
@@CameronBuchan thanks Cameron
Is it normal to pull the handle up so high vertically? I aim for getting it above my belly but these guys are at like chin level!
bad form
Bahaha the death roll at the end...

@@CameronBuchan Ok I see. Thank you for answering
The Lads are all topless. is that the standard norm for indoor rowing?
Wouldn't say it is the standard but that room in particular is very hot so little bit cooler with tops off. It also isn't a public gym so little bit more private
@@CameronBuchan Thanks for the response, just asking as I'm hoping to join newcastle university rowing club in a couple of weeks.
I think Angelo doesn't approve of tops off!
Do we know why the GB standard for drag factor is 138? Given the way DF works, I wouldn't think there'd be a standard.
Great question! The idea is to have it all the same for everyone to make it more uniform but not sure why 138!
@@CameronBuchan The Kiwis use 130. (FWIW)
@@CameronBuchan In Canada we use 120 for u19 men.
@@CameronBuchan Probably because once you reach that level all rowers will be similar age, height, weight, span, strength, endurance and VO2 max.
@@stevewilliams5428 on the team currently there is quite a variety of different heights, weights, wingspan and Vo2 max levels
In Germany Drag is at 145 for Male!! And Female 135 at least in the Junior’s.
Lorenz Bagdonat And Seniors?
Thanks for the info! #yamsquad

Well you've touched on it a little. Big tip is actually doing the 2ks. Getting used to them and seeing what works for you! #yamsquad
I swear that if the coach sees me that I don't loosen up, he gives me 2000 more and 300 jumps because he can give me a damn cramp

How does swimming talent transfer to rowing?

Ollie is a beast
What sort of times do the women get ?
Around 730 here! But can depend on the athlete, anything from 830 to 630!
7:02 💪🏼
How old are they?
Michał Zawadzki GB start is a mix of ages
They should have their arses kicked for slinging the handles at the end.
