I think what drives us to this music, and other music like it. Is its "pure" and "raw" feeling to the tone of the performance, and song as a whole. To me.. this is the "realest" music you can hear. no ego. no image to uphold or cling to. Just unbridled emotion and feelings, poured into a song, that sat up on a dusty shelf. just waiting to be rediscovered and cherished all over again.
My favorite part of seeing jejune live was watching the drummer. I swear he was on acid. I wanted to see whatever he was seeing because judging by his reaction, it was entertaining as hell.
And just all the multiple layers and changes in this song, it's just brilliant. i also bet that if you put this against a metronome/click track, the tempo of this song most likely speeds up and slows down. None of the punk/emo bands I was in, or played with, recorded with a click track, we just played. ;)

I wish I had met such person and actually became friends and they'll recommend me more songs like this. But instead, it is TH-cam who introduces me to this genre. I actually prefer this kind of emotional song than modern/nowadays sad songs, emo has more soul, and more touching melodies, lyrics, and the many other things that I feel relatable with me.

They were very ahead of their time. And extremely influential. By 2004 they were probably your favorite band's favorite band's favorite band. I highly recommend Christie Front Drive. The part where the girl starts singing is so haunting, it literally takes my breath away. It makes me think of my ex from high school who tried her best to forget about me with heavy heavy drug use. She may have truly forgotten who I am. She told me she was trying to. Recently I was crushed all over again to hear that she has memory and cognitive damage from 15 years of excessive heroine use and talks like she had a stroke. I wonder if she would remember me at all. Or if she would understand my behavior and accept my apology now if she knew that I found out I had/have autism and I understand that I was wrong in so many ways. I fear the girl I knew is already gone now.

It took me years to fully comprehend it all. My life is like a roller coaster always going up and down but things are looking up right now. It looks like I'm going on a hike with an amazingly beautiful girl I really like this weekend. I'm also writing up a nice neutrally worded apology letter to the girl from high school. It has some key memories written in it to help her remember the good times we shared and hopefully it shows that I understand and regret all of my bad behavior.

But the song is a few years older than that. 97 I think. You know what's funny about that genre title... So back then everyone absolutely hated the term emo. Especially the bands themselves. But it was the 90's and everyone hated every kind of label then. But this was many years before anyone said "Midwest emo". And I would literally call that style of band "Midwest music". So all the shows were very small and quaint. Everyone would be talking with each other all the time in the venues. This was before internet culture, so you had to get social interaction where you could. And these were the only people you really wanted to talk to anyway Plus you'd always be talking to the bands themselves at some point. And some of them heard me say "Midwest music". And people just kind of agreed that it fit. Even when the bands weren't from anywhere near the Midwest. But that's where all the fests were. And I think it always felt like home there with that sound. 😂 I really don't know but... Maybe I started that expression hahah I barely had a driver's license. But I put on shows in my basement with my roommates and I. We had some really cool bands play there like Braid. And Blacktop Cadence. Legends now. That's the real spirit of this music you love so much. It comes from a disconnected world, yearning for that feeling of true connection. If you want to feel like you were back there with us... I highly recommend getting your hands on "The Unheard Music". It's just a photography book about that scene. I think someone was quoted as saying that mid-90's post-hardcore was the last true underground scene. Before Napster started and no one had to cross state line to find a record anymore. But for all that modern convenience, which I certainly appreciate... Being able to find great new music on the fly any hour of the day... I really do miss it. It was beautiful. You've probably already heard Early Stars from these guys. If you haven't checked out that or anything from Christy Front Drive... Those guys were my favorite in that era. Don't take human connection for granted. Carry the torch, my young friend ❤️🔥
