Usually I have no faith in the TH-cam algorithm, but lately I've been getting a lot of these hidden indie and shoegazing gems. If it's happening for everyone who shows any interest in this type of music, then it will all get the recognition it deserves.

Also, two other Japanese indie/rock/shoegaze bands I can think of are Paint In Watercolour and condor44. I rarely hear Paint In Watercolour mentioned anywhere, extremely underrated rock/shoegaze band. They have a song called "You Are Here" which I adore. And then condor44 are more rock with a bit of shoegaze undertones I guess you could say. I love "db" and "Hush & Vane" by condor44. ^.^

@@collegekid1781 I like this version more as well, but I don't dislike the drowned out aspect of the vocals of the 1999 recording, drowned out vocals is a big feature of this genre of music after all, but imo the studio mixing in that version wasn't properly side chained, same goes for a lot of their really early albums, so I'm glad they decided to rerecord a few songs, not just this one (there are other musical changes as well, jun Shibuya players chords in this 2003 version whereas in the 1999 version he plays arpeggios, I along with some other changes but that's the most major one in a musical sense rather than production) I've spent way too long studying Jun Shibuya

Just watched the live performance of "CQ" in HongKong today, their vocal is the same person with honeydip's vocal. He is getting old now but still got an amazing voice.
Been listening to this song since 2019 when there's barely any information about the band themselves to discovering the members' other shoegaze acts to them reuniting and touring in 2024/2025 made my whole life. I love honeydip so so much. You guys are literally my youth.

this will probably get buried in the comments but love this band so much its the first japanease shoegaze band i ever found, and this song was all i listened to back when i was 16. wasn't the best year of my life, probably one of the worst. moved to new school after a whole decade. made new bad habits and old ones came back. was dealing with some derealization/depersonalization for a year at that point too. but i guess the only good thing to come out of that year was me finding a lot of amazing songs like this and getting a lot into shoegaze. i love you honeydip, you'll always be in my heart

There’s something about these early 2000’s Japanese shoegaze bands, they really sound like the embodiment of loneliness. To me, it feels like I’ve been left behind on a dying world.

I kinda like this version more, the vocal on the original is too drown in the instrumental that it hardly contribute to the song
@@collegekid1781 I like this version more as well, but I don't dislike the drowned out aspect of the vocals of the 1999 recording, drowned out vocals is a big feature of this genre of music after all, but imo the studio mixing in that version wasn't properly side chained, same goes for a lot of their really early albums, so I'm glad they decided to rerecord a few songs, not just this one (there are other musical changes as well, jun Shibuya players chords in this 2003 version whereas in the 1999 version he plays arpeggios, I along with some other changes but that's the most major one in a musical sense rather than production) I've spent way too long studying Jun Shibuya

it is very similar in fact to the same song by An April March with Danellatron from the 1996 Adagio album it even shares the same style and title
ehhh, took a listen and while they have a cool sound, I do not hear the similarity at all tbh. Same title is crazy though

its the first japanease shoegaze band i ever found, and this song was all i listened to back when i was 16. wasn't the best year of my life, probably one of the worst. moved to new school after a whole decade. made new bad habits and old ones came back. was dealing with some derealization/depersonalization for a year at that point too. but i guess the only good thing to come out of that year was me finding a lot of amazing songs like this and getting a lot into shoegaze.
