  • Join me exploring Koh Phangan and Koh Tao during the wonderful wet season in Thailand. From beautiful beaches, monsoon rainstorms to gatecrashing strangers house for a cuppa tea - these 6 days were certainly an experience. Oh, and experience my first experience driving a scooter, in Thailand, in the monsoon season...
From Koh Samui I took a boat to Koh Phangan that took about 30 minutes and arrived at Thongsala Pier. I stayed at Phangan Guest House for 3 nights & the people there were so lovely & accommodating - this cost me 57 GBP/ $72 for the 3 nights. They even had a kitchen area with tea & coffee downstairs. And when it poured down the day I needed to get back to the pier, they gave me a lift back to the dock, so huge love to those guys.
I booked my boat ticket to Koh Tao through the guesthouse, but you can do this pretty much anywhere you stay & back at the pier too.
I learned to drive a scooter because of Mr Tom, who is a legend. He charged 200TB (4.50 GBP/ $5.70) a day (short term) for scooters, but does good deals if renting them for an extended time. He also taught me to drive for like 45 mins - 1 hour and didn't expect any extra! (Great teacher, he was absolutely tipped).
Notable places I visited on Koh Phangan:
    Dots Coffe House
    Bubbas Roastery
    Secret Beach
Mae Head Beach / Standing stones
    Malibu Beach
It took about 1/1.5 hours on the boat to get to Koh Tao island, Mae Haad Pier. I stayed at the Aukotan Place for 3 nights which cost me 47GBP/ $60 - and they arrange a free pick up shuttle to and from the dock. They offer nike rentals and were also 200TB per day (short term) - 4.50 GBP/ $5.70.
Notable Place I visited on Koh Tao:
    Shark Bay
    Sairee Beach
    Aow Luek Beach
The beach which was recommended but I wimped out driving to:
    Sai Nuan Beach
I really enjoyed my time on these islands, albeit the torrential rain & I found 3 nights on each a perfect amount for what I wanted from the islands. If you are however a keen diver, or wanted to learn I could see how they could pull you in for a lot longer!

Main-wheel tires have an average lifespan of 300 to 450 landings, while a nose wheel can withstand 200 to 350. 😉
