I served in the U.S. Army for 8 years as an all wheel vehicle mechanic 36B hooah . We were attached to an infantry unit with designated marksmen in it . I got to shoot all types of rifles and weapons during training exercises. Our CO didn’t care if you were cook, mechanic, medic , or pencil pusher, everyone was going to qualify with any weapon that the infantry man or designated marksman was issued. We were to get familiarized with all weapons bottom line.
Thats a sweet build. I done a rem700 build but i just used a magpul hunter stock with bottom metal and a custom brake with a nikon 4x16 on a 6.5. Budget build compared to that one for sure
I agree with you %100 on the Crosshair reticle. A dot is way better for shooting distance and groups. I'm in the process of looking for a different scope because of this reason. I have an older Vortex Reticle on my custom rig
I feel like I’ve met someone who was in a parallel universe as me. 😂 I wanted to build a bolt action that mirrored the M40A6 ever since I worked for the SS school house. Did my research and saw how rare the Racs chassis were and how much they cost, RIDICULOUS. I wanted a folding skeleton stock and also would’ve gone for the old school Surefire muzzle brakes. And also assumed that I would never find a suppressor for it. But the brake looks so sick. Today I’m torn between the MDT ESS and the Daniel Defense Delta 5 Pro Chassis.
My savage 338Lapua Magnum is in a MDT,LSS XL with a 24 inch barrel with a suppressor attached and shooting 300gr bullets which is good for long range up to two miles , and is also great for grizzly & brown bear hunting as well as moose &Elk

Couple questions. First, why would you choose .308 instead of something with a little more gas? Second, why such a short barrell? You're not even getting all the range from your chosen caliber

Availability of quality factory ammunition, familiarity, ease of handloading,knowledge of capabilities, and to me it’s great practice for when I shoot my match rifle with a soft shooting 6mm. 2. 20” is plenty of barrel. Easily shoots to 1100 yards consistently. There’s a reason the USMC brought the M40A6 down to 20” from the 25” M40A6. I have a 16.5” 308 that slams out at 1000 yards with ease. Do you feel like you get improved accuracy with that chassis I have a remington 40x pillar bedded in a laminate stock wondering if I would see improved accuracy with a mdt stock
I just shot the true velocity 168 smk through my 26” 700 and wasn’t impressed with it AT ALL, considering the ridiculous price. I was shooting 1 moa but this is a rifle that can shoot 1/2 moa on a good day with 175gr FGMM. I’ll be waiting to hear how your tests went. Nice build. 👍
2 totally different uses. Yeah, they’re shorter 308s in chassis but that’s where the similarities end. The custom build probably weighs almost double and is way more precise. The cross is very light and maneuverable and a great hunting option.

I picked one up two weeks ago. Worth every penny. My main optic is a Minox Zp5. I swapped a Athlon Midas TAC 5-25 for the Arken EP 5. I feel the glass is too close to see a difference, but the features on the EP 5 are better.
Why would someone using a Schmidt and Bender check that out? Like telling someone driving a Mercedes SL 500 they should check out the new Hyundai Sonata.
@@MaddMaxxLop what does that mean? I’ve seen plenty of videos on TH-cam where guys literally fabricate barrels, put actions on them, put them in a chassis, mount scopes, then fire them at the range. Does it mean you don’t get paid for views on the video or something? (I don’t understand how TH-cam works as well as you guys who put out lots of content)
@@madslashers2002 it’s literally against the new guidelines to show how to assemble a firearm or firearm accessories. It will result in the video being taken down and getting a strike towards having your channel deleted. I’ve already had a video taken down of me installing an arca rail and received my only warning. That’s why many channels are moving to Rumble for unrestricted content. The term “build” in this video is referring to the end result, not the the building process.

Yeah, you’d either have to drop it into a new stock or chassis or have your old stock sent to a gunsmith to have a new bottom metal fitted.

Using LC LR brass, 175gr smk, varget getting under .5 moa with my 20" R700 all day.
I’ve had pretty bad luck with LC LR brass in terms of durability. I was getting split necks at 3 firings. But Varget and 175s is the way.

I have a mcmillan A3-5 stock, and I love it. I prefer stocks they're warm to the touch, and don't have as much harmonics.

I’ve shot 2 boxes of it total. 7 of the 8 5 shot groups were 1 1/2”+. 1 randomly shot under 3/4”. The velocity numbers were also terrible.

Do the R700s and clones have a 90 degree bolt throw?
The r700s do but it depends on which clone you’re talking about. For the most part the newer actions are all 60°
