While the reload is listed in the store as 2s, in reality it's 2.6s and thus longer than the Martini-Henry. It's really puzzling why so many store page stats are wrong.
I always loved the Martini, but I can't stand using the Springfield. While both are relatively cheap options, the Martini has all the benefit of long ammo, one of the best Iron sights in the game, always felt snappier than the Springfield (now I know that it actually is), and hits hard enough to cause player panic.
Came here to say this. More people need to know that spare ammo, MV and hipfire are the only meager advantages this thing has over the Martini. I enjoy the Springfield too, but now that Martinis get handed out with free hunters on the regular, I just don't roll the 3 slot Springfields much.
love the martini. To me it feels like an aggressive version of the Sparks. Super cheap and I love running explosive in its alternate slot. I dont use it much but it's always helpful to blow open reinforced doors and windows, especially since in the 4 star range most hunters dont know how to react when a "safe" door is suddenly open. Also helps speed up fights when all the windows are wide open and you can see into the whole compound. Plus, the explosive ammo on the Henri can one tap immolators to the chest. They still explode but they immediatelydie. Dont always run FMJ cause the martini already has slow muzzle speed, plus I like to have an ammo pool i can reliably refill, running explosive/fmj i need special ammo boxes, running regular = no problem
Funny enough, upgrading Sprinfields ended up costing same amount of resources if not more than building new riffles, because old barrels couldnt handle new ammunitions pressure levels so they should been swapped too.
I don't think it was the barrels, I think it was all the time to machine and fit the bits. By the time the relatively inexpensive conversion components were competently installed, the labor and materials suddenly matched or exceeded the cost of new manufacture rifles and the end product wasn't as good either, because they were still little more than hacked up surplus rifles at the end of the day. The barrels should have been fine since smokeless powder was still a couple of decades away from mass adoption and the metallic cartridge rounds weren't much different in performance from the paper cartridges they originally fired
@@mr.nobody2191 A magazine fed Springfield is the most cursed thing I can think of. The fact that we used the Springfield all the way till 1892 is also worrying, I mean it was outdated even by the time we adopted it.
No, actually. The issue was that they reduced the caliber from .58 to .50 and in doing so had to insert a barrel sleeve which wasn't the most sturdy. the remedy for that was to simply elongate the receiver of the trapdoor mechanism. Later production rifles (around 1870 or so) did have new barrels but mostly because the stock of old barrels was running low. Even with new barrels the rifles were much cheaper than making something new because, while the barrel was the most expensive part, they basically got every other piece of the rifle for free; all the lockwork, furniture, etc.
Hey! For anyone who is curious about playing that over-the-shoulder co-op shooter version of Hunt depicted at the beginning of the video: Before it's closure, CryTek USA spun off into Gunfire Games and made "Remnant: From the Ashes" which shares a lot of DNA with that proto-hunt. It's a different setting, more 1920s Lovecraftian apocalypse. It's a decent enough game to play with friends. My Hunt crew and I played that one together and enjoyed it.
Moreover Remnant is sequel to Chronos from same studio and it has nothing to do with 1920's. It's set in modern era, with end of the world happening somewhere between late 1980's and early 2000's and game being set several decades after that. Due to stylistic similarities and the fact that they have the same developer, it's also sometimes nicknamed "Darksiders from human PoV".
Springfield Marksman is THE gun I always choose. My beloved creature is always reliable and the crunching headshots only get more satisfying the further away you are from your target.
@@kylemackinnon6230 if I had to pick the most all around reliable gun in the game, I'd be stuck between the winny and spitfire. Both get FMJ, are good at close and mid range (also sorta longish for winny) both have a good rate of fire and two tap easily. being able to punch through a metal sheet to finish that enemy that thought he was safe is so satisfying
My cheap loadout is the cut off Springfield with 1 slot dum dum and Romero hatchet. It’s incredibly cheap but it’s carried me so far. With it I’m workable at medium range, helped by dum dum. And the hatchet has clutched so many close quarters fights.
My first legit quad kill spree was with a Hatchet in the basement of Chapel, two died to penny shot and two to the mighty chop. It was all over in about eight seconds too. My 4 kill spree before that was with a poison bomb on my partner's body, the two who killed him got to res each other and die again. It was awesome
So for clarification about "quick rate of fire", remembering that this game is loosely based around the post-civil war era in what appears to be the deep South, the 1872 Trapdoor Springfield was hailed as a cheap but effective modernization to the U.S Army's current line-up of firearms. 1. You had the Henry Repeating rifle, arguable one of the best of it's class but expensive. 2. You had the Spencer Repeating rifle, not as good as the henry but still up there in terms of capability of sustaining fire. Cheaper than the henry but still rather costly. 3. You had the Whitworth rifle which was more or less more common amongst confederate arms stockpiles. Was known for it's excellent accuracy and precision as well as strange hexagonal shaped bullets. 4. You had the Sharps rifle/carbine which was an accurate single shot breach loading carbine (Known as the Sparks LLR in this game), it was cheaper than the repeaters but still much more expensive than the Springfield/Enfield muzzleloaders. So, by the end of the war approx. over 700,000 Springfield rifles we're produced versus the roughly 12-15,000 Sharps rifles/ 90,000 Sharps carbines/6-7,000 Henry repeating rifles/ and about 200,000 Spencer rifles. Not to mention the scarcity of Whitworth rifles as they we're a British import to the South. Which means, the Springfield rifles remained as the Army's primary firearm for several years until the Conversion of the Springfields to the Trapdoor mechanism. Which technically improved the Fire-rate of the U.S Army despite it only being used by Pioneers and US Cavalry out west (also known as the buffalo Soldiers) until it was later phased out by the Krag-Jorgenson Rifle in 1892.
I love the Springfield, it really is my favorite gun in hunt. The fact that you get the most explosive ammo to use as utility compared to any other gun that gets explosive is huge. Popping open doors & windows or setting off traps & barrels, makes it something I almost always grab.
Such a satisfying gun, and the 2 second reload is actually pretty clutch for certain fights. While I prefer the marksman variant, the hipfire on the base springfield is incredibly accurate, I’ve landed more headshots with this hipfire than any other gun.
I hope they add a muzzle loaded "Springfield 1866 Classic" with a "Hot Load" special ammo (simply more powder) which acts as FMJ with more damage, just for fun.
Someone did some testing and the springfield is actually slower to reload (2.8 seconds) compared to the henry (2.6 seconds). Once again the in game stats fail us
I got 5 hunters with basic springfield in one match. It aint bad rifle, hip fire is small so if you land one shot, and get to cover or simply avoid getting shot, you can manage around. And no, i wasnt sniping them, it was active fighting and pursuit in building where I defended bounty with an ally against agressive and mobile hunters. They died, we lived, and went out to ressurect our colleague who died before getting bounty.
Idk what is it but the springfield feels like the most Chad weapon in the game, I think the damage drop off should be fixed and it will be a perfectly balanced weapon
@@Swarleyy I love the weapon, but there is no way medium ammo should have the same drop off range as compact ammo, if compact is 20m and long is 40m medium should be 30m
Potentially on brand for Hunt's wacky 19th century military and military-adjacent kit would be the Springfield's experimental trowel bayonet. What would make it special? I don't know, but it's a shovel.
Bro. I’m down for a third person adventure of Hunt showdown. Where you are hunting with a team to hunt down cultists and actual witches who summon the demons to cause havoc.
Yeah, you can create a loadout that's under 175 hunt dollars using the springfield and a nagant revolver, if you brought only a medkit and a $15 melee, you can make the loadout sub $100. There's such a slim chance that you come out of a match with less than $100 earned, I'd be thoroughly impressed if someone could manage to back to back get less than 100 outta a match.
I'd never actually buy a Springfield, but I agree, that it is fun to use with bleeding ammo, especially when you have tons of this weapon for free, because every 2nd free hunter has it.
All of these points were spot on, imo. I do enjoy using this gun quite a bit though. Though infrequent in my playtime, it's so satisfying when you get the bleed kill from using dum dum in a mid range fire right. You can just feel the other player panicking on the other side of the server.
I had this mad idea ages ago, basically since all the classic Hunt guns (Mosin, Nagant revolver, Romero etc.) All have some kind of ultimate modification, what about lifting a Mauser 1889 action and fitting it to a Springfield rifle? That way you could practice with a bolt action clip-fed rifle early in the game that came with Dum-Dum and explosive rounds for maximum pain.
I personally prefer the Springfield to the Sparks, and by a pretty considerable margin. Sparks is more than 5x the price of a Springfield, reloads half as fast and still obscures a portion of your view while aiming on top of all that. Plus I'd much rather run a Marksman scope than a Sniper, and an explosive pocket rifle with knife attachment over a single shot pistol (Though it's pretty close.) I might be in the minority... but give me the Springfield any day. Alternatively, put a Martini Henry in my hands and I'll have absolutely nothing to complain about.
I love this gun. It's satisfying to use, essentially free, and honestly smacking someone up close with the dumdum gives them the spook just as much as a sparks shot. Plus it compliments the pax-my favourite handgun.
When I use a bow, I tend to take the springfield compact deadeye. The bow having the power for a one-hit up close and the compact deadeye being one of the best choices for range IMO given the 2 slot restriction if you don't have quartermaster on that hunter. Edit: added some words so it makes sense.
I love the Springfield, I know *very* well that it isnt that good, but running The Mountain Man and clapping someone with The Old Tusk is just plain satisfying.
Springfield is actually is a bit better on console due to its sway pattern. I find it MUCH easier to aim the Springfield on the sticks compared to most other weapons.
I've been binging your videos and paying close attention in hopes of absorbing some of the knowledge and good mood you radiate. I've just reached 170h in the game and for the love of me I can't get a headshot to save my life and my situational awareness is in the negative digits. I keep profusely apologizing to my teammates every time I fail them because I don't like making the game a worse experience for other people. Hunt is a game I really enjoy but it's extremely discouraging to learn. Watching your videos gives me hope and refreshes my mood enough to give myself another chance in the bayou. You're actually inspiring, keep up the great content. A new homeschooled video would be great, too!
I am glad you enjoy the videos! A couple tips to land more headshots: 1) check your sensitivity in the settings. A lower ADS sensitivity might make fine tuning a little easier 2) If you are on PC, lower your field of view to its lowest setting (85 I think), this can make targets bigger 3) use high velocity ammo. High velocity ammo on the winfield, the centennial's base ammo, and the bolt action long ammo rifles have a pretty high velocity which means you'll have to lead less. That can turn headshots into a point and click adventure 4) Use better sights. The winfield and the mosin have really clean posts. Easy to use and align.
Nice vid! There's a lot of talk about the crown and king, might that be worth a video? The same goes with the Avtomat, now that you can get a ton of ammo back if you take 2 sparks pistols along with it.
i personally enjoy running the terminus with levering and quartermaster to chime in the Springfield compact for that long range and short range capability. ill use the dum dum with it to add some more pressure to the target with a normal ammo slot on the side for pen. imho this loadout best suits me with a parter who does fanning on both chain slots. gotta love my boi medic.
Springfield 1/2 dumdum plus scottfield swift with fanning is five full clips of pistol ammo that shoots fast and reloads faster, while still having a decent hat trick at medium long range with the bleed ammo.
How would anybody feel about a Springfield FMJ? I dunno it just... sorta seems like it would benefit a *lot* from that. And would also let it pair with the Scottfield better.
Ahh, the weapon alongside the Dolph that I wish but cannot achieve being good with… the key difference being I don’t drain my bank account failing with the Springfield.
Springfield reloads are so quick that they're the only single-shot gun I'm willing to ever take without a pistol for finishing kills. Still shouldn't, but sometimes when summons demand, a hand crossbow is at least doable... But where it really shines is not when you pair it with the pax sadly. At least, not for the sake of dumdum. Play the springfield with dumdum, and pair it with an FMJ pistol or the like. Bleed your enemy, then hammer them through the walls to finish your kills. Having a high-pen pistol also means you don't have to play that dumb minigame of guessing what ammo type you should have loaded in your rifle, based on whether you need penetration. It's as simple as getting your pistol out when you need pen, and using the springfield otherwise. You're probably never gonna burn through all 12 (or 24) shots of dumdum with just the springfield using them anyway, so there's no reason to pool ammo for it.
Springfield has the fastest single action reload time. And the dum dum ammo is just chefs kiss especially for the price of the gun. I personally run double dum dum and a uppercut.
TIME TO REDO THE SPRINGFIELD NOW! Seriously though... intense bleed dumdum ammo for Springfield made it hella fun to play with, and no one seems to have noticed. Almost basically 1 shot people within 21 meters.
I'll be honest I wished the Springfield had poison ammo instead of Centennial. That said, I've put alot hunters down with a Spring Marksman and some crazed machete flailing when they get too close.
since it uses the medium ammo Crytek should really ad the Cavalry Carbine version of the Springfield. even though we have sawed off versions it would be a much better fitting of the playstyle suited for this gun an caliber.
One thing worth noting is the Springfield reload isn't that must slower than using the bolt action on a lebel. That tiny difference in time won't make much difference if your positioning is good. Springfield ha sa deceptively high fire rate.
Hey man, love your videos keep them coming. I would love to see a video on whether dual wielding pistols is worth it, Vs a compact Winfield with levering, or a handcannon shotgun or something similar? Might be a little too wide ranging for one of your guides, idk. But loving the content, and I keep checking PC gamer to see if you have another article!
They should add FMJ and high velocity ammo for the springfield, maybe even for the Pax. For the springfield it would ne no issue in terms of balance as "better" medium rifles already got it.
Dumdum makes it pretty decent; otherwise, it's pretty terrible compared to the sparks, martini, or vetterli. Also, 2 nice springfield loadouts: Spring (half dumdum/half regular ammo) + Scottfield Swift fanning, Spring Compact + Dual pistols.
have to say. this gun is my main gun for a long time. cheap decent damage. and often because i run trios. my squad mates hit a dude. and i can finish them off or vice versa. but my favourite thing is shoot them with this and bleeding. toss in a hive bomb. or cuz new update hit them with the good old buggerino :D
So the gap from small to medium ammo is not a huge difference and then you have the gap between medium and Large and its HUGE. So now you have the Uppercut in large ammo. Its soo much better then all other handguns its not even close. They made it more expensive but its still incredibly meta. Making it more expensive STILL didnt offset the value of the gun. Its so good that it would need to be like 3 times more expensive. Its better then all the other handguns and a good amount of rifles too which makes zero sense. They either need to make medium better so that the handguns can somewhat compete from a value standpoint.$414 is still stupid cheap for what this handgun can do.
I don't know about you people, but I notice in this game that all medium-ammo to long-ammo weapons all kill in 2 shots. You can take a 3rd if you hit a leg, but the chest almost all kill you with only 2 shots. Perhaps at very long range this does not apply, but only campers and snipers shoot that way, most of the confrontations are at close and medium distance, where the medium-ammo has plenty of damage being very useful.
I subbed just because of the pointless dedication to explaining subscription reminders to people who complain and wont subscribe anyway. You're my kind of guy

Springfield is actually is a bit better on console due to its sway pattern. I find it MUCH easier to aim the Springfield on the sticks compared to most other weapons.
You only need to be on target long enough to pull the trigger.
A couple tips to land more headshots:
1) check your sensitivity in the settings. A lower ADS sensitivity might make fine tuning a little easier
2) If you are on PC, lower your field of view to its lowest setting (85 I think), this can make targets bigger
3) use high velocity ammo. High velocity ammo on the winfield, the centennial's base ammo, and the bolt action long ammo rifles have a pretty high velocity which means you'll have to lead less. That can turn headshots into a point and click adventure
4) Use better sights. The winfield and the mosin have really clean posts. Easy to use and align.
The Springfield is my go to budget rifle, half regular half bleed. It's just so good for the price.
Nice vid! There's a lot of talk about the crown and king, might that be worth a video? The same goes with the Avtomat, now that you can get a ton of ammo back if you take 2 sparks pistols along with it.
Aaaaaaaaah, Shirley that wasn't an Airplane reference!
i personally enjoy running the terminus with levering and quartermaster to chime in the Springfield compact for that long range and short range capability. ill use the dum dum with it to add some more pressure to the target with a normal ammo slot on the side for pen. imho this loadout best suits me with a parter who does fanning on both chain slots. gotta love my boi medic.
I really have no clue why but somehow the springfield boots my aim 10fold. I just click all the heads with it
It's the slow-fire weapon mindset. Missing is more expensive.
Springfield 1/2 dumdum plus scottfield swift with fanning is five full clips of pistol ammo that shoots fast and reloads faster, while still having a decent hat trick at medium long range with the bleed ammo.
Not only that. They are so common they are found in abundance to this day 180 years later.:)
2:50 And then there's Mike, and what he did with explosive ammo and a marksman... AND EVERY STICKY BOMB HE CAME ACROSS!!!
I was doing explosive Springfield, and dum dum sidearm during the event and it was hitting hard.
The catch is that like the mini spark, the reload can stop without reason, and ruin your fight.
How would anybody feel about a Springfield FMJ?
I dunno it just... sorta seems like it would benefit a *lot* from that. And would also let it pair with the Scottfield better.
Nah we cant just saturate the game with fmj
@@041mikey It should kill the velocity. FMJ is ok when it has a downside
@@themonkeyspaw7359 i have no problem with fmj but you cant just give it to every gun in the game
Ahh, the weapon alongside the Dolph that I wish but cannot achieve being good with… the key difference being I don’t drain my bank account failing with the Springfield.
Musket Winnie!? I raise you an aperture sparks…
Both are viable (and historically accurate) variants.
2:25 oi thats classified information
Oh...
I thought this video will be about an irl springfield rifle, lol
Aw the Trapdoor Springfield, given its a converted musket no wonder its only 38 dollars.
Springfield is my go-to for budget loadouts, pair with a scottfield for sidearm
Springfield has the fastest single action reload time. And the dum dum ammo is just chefs kiss especially for the price of the gun. I personally run double dum dum and a uppercut.
Man how I click on this thinking it was an irl gun review💀💀
The old tusk quest got me hooked on springfield
TIME TO REDO THE SPRINGFIELD NOW!
Seriously though... intense bleed dumdum ammo for Springfield made it hella fun to play with, and no one seems to have noticed. Almost basically 1 shot people within 21 meters.
Love your videos man. Seriously, do Marauders weapon reviews like this!!
I thought this was about real life history when I clicked it...
Nice Patriot reference, love your videos man keep up the great work
No joke, springfield is my fav gun. Its great, I like to land headshots, plus the muzzle velocity just feels right when you hit, so its a win-win.
It would be a dream to find a conversion flint for $38 I would charish that like my own child
that version of hunt became Remnant from the ashes.
I usually don't use the Springfield, but when I do, I use dumdum ammo
Springfield just got 2 new ammo types too including poison which rocks
When I clicked on this I thought this would be about a real gun not a videogame version.
Q: is it good?
A: its hot and ready.
Eh idk it's iron sights kinda suck with the hammer blocking up the right side. Scoped variants on both are top tier for cheap long range weapons.
One thing worth noting is the Springfield reload isn't that must slower than using the bolt action on a lebel. That tiny difference in time won't make much difference if your positioning is good. Springfield ha sa deceptively high fire rate.
I was really excited to buy myself a dirt cheap surplus firearm I hadn't heard of before...until I realized it's a game
Marge Simpson: I just think they're neat!
Came here to find out where to find a Springfield for 38 bucks...you could say I was disappointed.
Dude, this was comedic gold! Thanks for having me laugh, besides being educational ;)
Also, 2 nice springfield loadouts: Spring (half dumdum/half regular ammo) + Scottfield Swift fanning, Spring Compact + Dual pistols.
ya. it is kinda wild we got poison ammo for it now but still no bayonette
In a brutal game where downing players is greatly rewarded, the Springfield suffers
It one shots players who've been downed but long ammo is always gonna be king
@@RevivedAccountXP only if you’re within about 15m
@@oxford320 about 25m, cuz it deals 132 dmg and dropoff is at 20m
have to say. this gun is my main gun for a long time. cheap decent damage. and often because i run trios.
my squad mates hit a dude. and i can finish them off or vice versa.
but my favourite thing is shoot them with this and bleeding. toss in a hive bomb. or cuz new update hit them with the good old buggerino :D
I thought you were talking about real life Springfields and was going to go a buy one for shits and giggles.
They either need to make medium better so that the handguns can somewhat compete from a value standpoint.$414 is still stupid cheap for what this handgun can do.
never thought i'd see someone bring up enneagram in a hunt video
Plus the springfield unlocks the springfield compact, AKA the GOAT
I don't know about you people, but I notice in this game that all medium-ammo to long-ammo weapons all kill in 2 shots. You can take a 3rd if you hit a leg, but the chest almost all kill you with only 2 shots. Perhaps at very long range this does not apply, but only campers and snipers shoot that way, most of the confrontations are at close and medium distance, where the medium-ammo has plenty of damage being very useful.
Word
I know it's not as good as the other single shot rifles but I prefer it to the others because it's drip or drown in the bayou.
My fav gun in the game
Love that explosive bullets cost more then the gun itself and actively make it worse in most situations
I subbed just because of the pointless dedication to explaining subscription reminders to people who complain and wont subscribe anyway. You're my kind of guy
"Aim small, miss small" Exactly why I like the Springfield, it makes me feel like Mel Gibson in the opening scene of "The Patriot" when I use it in team fights
Edit: Bayonet or aperture sight when?
The punchline got me to subscribe ngl
i have a joke set up called the "ill Spring bomber" : scope ver + striker ver + explosive ammo
feels stupid but extremely fun n usefull after mastering it
Springie dumdum is definitely a way to go. I do enjoy blasting it from time to time. Thanks for the video!
Musket bayonet Springfield!
