  • Casio Mod: How to remove lettering from the case of the World Time AE-1200
A customer of mine wanted me to remove the labels from his watch before getting it out to him. So thought I'd share the materials and procedure with you all. Have fun and good luck👍

91% isopropyl alcohol and a q-tip works great for taking off the lettering on the outside of the case (the illuminator and world time text). I can't speak to removing the lettering from the interior. I removed the outer text from the silver (stainless band) version of the ae1200, and the 91% isopropyl did not damage or remove any of the silver finish from what I can tell. The process only took about 5 minutes. Cheers!

After removing the lettering on a black AE-1200 and seeing the same slight discoloration, I lightly wiped it over with an automotive 'Plastic Trim Rejuvenator'. Looks brand new and shiny again!

i kept the original Casio case and did same mod using a variety of AE-1200 / 1300 'homages' from Synoke / Panars / Mingee which have same case but cost $5 -$8 and then changed over the module - very easy

I just used wd40 on the end of a worn down bamboo skewer and it didn’t leave any marring or discoloration at all. Can’t tell anything was ever there.

This comment is the best thing about this vid. I read it while eating fish and chips from the shop down the street. Came with a wooden fork. Rinsed it off, sprayed the handle with WD40 and used it like a paint scraper. Lettering came right off and absolutely no evidence marks whatsoever 😎 Didn't even remove the strap. 😁 too much faffing around in this vid.

Took me less than 30 secondes with acetone. Just rub it a bit and right after wipe it with a moist cloth. And repeat about 2-3 times

so, the water after acitone will not change the color, or make it lighter...?

Great 'how to' video, thanks. I wonder if isopropyl alc would do the job, I have a gallon of the stuff!
I also have isobutyl alc and butan 1-ol.

@@watchncarry9593 I used isopropyl (99%) on a standard cotton bud and it took the writing off in about 30 sec with no harm to the silver coating beneath.
It looks spot on, sheen unaffected, as if it left the factory like this. I'm wondering if it's because it's brand spanking new!
I literally did this modification about 10 min after unboxing.

How can I restore the paint if it ever wears off during the process? What kind of paint should I use to coat it again?

Beautifully done. But what is the necessity of removing the marking?

    • @watchncarry9593
      @watchncarry9593  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks. I modify and sell Casio watches for some customers who like to have the labels removed. Personally on my own Casioe I like to keep all the labels, because I feel that gives it a more retro look

    • @synapticflow

The marking is tacky and un-needed.

I didn't know there were different formulas of Goo-Gone until now. The bottle I have says "Pro-Power Goo & Adhesive Remover" in white letters against a red background. Just something I've never noticed before now.
Why do you put masking tape over the display? Obviously it isn't to protect anything since you're rubbing nowhere near the crystal. Do you find the display to be distracting, or maybe too many colors going on all at one time and you're using the tape as a blinder?
Those pointy Q-Tips can be bought in cosmetic sections of Walmart or Walgreens not far from where the eye makeup is sold. I guess women use them to get in the corner of the eyelids where a full size Q-Tip is too bulky. One thing I've noticed about those cosmetic ones... The cotton is much more densely packed than on an ordinary Q-Tip, so they hold their shape very well. Maybe if your girlfriends or wives aren't very observant, you can scarf a couple without them noticing, because those ones that I use, they're $3 for a pack of only 40. I don't have a live-in girlfriend, so I don't have the option of snagging a few, so I have to buy mine, but maybe I can save some of the other guys out there a few bucks, if possible lol. I'm not sure what it's for, but on the other end is a kind of flattened oval with a rectangular indentation.
I've heard of a few people saying they use acetone nail polish remover and work really fast to get it cleaned off before anything happens to damage the finish, but my experience with nail polish remover of plastic or resin or whatever is that it starts melting the plastic the instant it comes into contact with it, like there's no such thing as working fast enough because in less than a second, it's melted. Just my experience with it, that's all. I've had similar results with Goof-Off, but it takes a couple seconds, usually as soon as a few seconds of light rubbing. I learned the hard way, nothing stronger then Goo-Gone.
And one more thing, it's also not a bad idea to have a pack of those wooden sticks around. They have a point on one end and a slanted point on the other. They're about 11cm long and I guess you would use them to clean gunk from under the fingernails. I use them for maybe an area that requires light scraping, or to pick that one little piece of adhesive that gets stuck in a corner that's being a total bitch to get out. I've also used them for pressing film firmly into a hard to reach corner and to push small air pockets around.
