I'm a 74 year old retired mechanics teacher. It sounds to me like your problems are mostly rooted in the electrical installation part of the build. Also, carbon fiber brings with it a lot of new electrical issues. Carbon is a conductor so your hull is a big wire. When they wired your boat up it needed to be treated and insulated like a steel or aluminum hull. It sounds like the installers didn't understand that part. The fridge wiring is a good indication of the skill level involved. In essence, everything metal needs to be isolated from the hull with some sort of electrical insulation including your ground tackle. As far as your isolation switch to your two engine batteries, it sounds like they are not isolating. Again, the installers have screwed up. Something isn't connected properly. Time to look at the wiring schematics and start tracing wires. I hope this helps.
SPOT ON. I am not a boat expert at all, but I am a chemist, and your explanation makes total sense. @Nikki @Jason this man has knowledge that I can agree to, imho he is spot on concerning the carbon fibre plays a big role.
HH have been building carbon boats for over a dozen years and you are suggesting, that they don't understand how carbon works and how to put boat systems into carbon? And you are suggesting this based on the installation of a single fridge, which had repair work done in it, at an earlier date. Wow!
Your product is not the boat or the blue water sailing. It’s YOU. I will be just as happy and enjoy some travel and product video from Europe and other places with you as travel guides. Your personalities and professional production quality is what makes your channel a hit
Wow. You two are so amazing. I've followed you for years and your content is fun and true. Not only should HH pay for everything including all travel and lodging but they should hire you as advisors. HH has SERIOUS problems. Wishing you all the best.
@@michaelvandermarliere1376 the best in the world by a good stretch. Even the run of the mill Chimay and Leffe is just excellent. On my last trip I kind of drank my way across Brugge! Have an uncle there so that made for a nice visit.
The patience given HH is beyond commendable. In return, their minimal offer to extend your warranty and resolve the stray current issue is sub-par. While your home is rusting away trying to de-rust these issues, is HH paying your land rent living expenses? Dont stay patient too long before the extended warranty wastes away..
Attitude is a significant factor in happiness. When life or a boat builder throw you lemons, break out the tequila and salt ! Or like they did in Animal House when all seems lost , ROADTRIP !!!!
@@lc285 This is a bit of a collaboration. I suspect they got a large discount on the boat, to promote the boat. So, they kind of need to handle negative issues with a level of positivity, to meet their obligations. Also, in the end, they need a working boat. Souring the relationship is not really going to make that happen faster.
Dear HH; A Lot of people are dreaming of this lifestyle.. they’re going to Think Twice before coming to you. How you handle this is going to be crucial to your future success.
@@Charles-q5l Anno 2024 I actually am quite sure companies *DO* care about customers, let alone influencers. They'll receive their boat back in pristine state, pretty sure about that.
I am a former yacht-Distributor for Fountaine Pajot, Beneteau and Elan. This is a classical case for a purchase return process. There is not only a warranty of two years, but also a warranty of 10 years on construction failure. At least for boats build in the EU. Ask your money back, because all metal parts on board are allready destroyed.
It makes sense to work together as long as HH is taking the blame and working on a solution. It is professional on their end to behave this way and we can all root for them to solve all these problems. It is a Win Wynn LOL
Its hard to imagine how HH is feeling. They have the ultimate client that wants a new Boat. One of the biggest social media influencers in your industry. A dream client. Roll out red carpet. I/we all hope this process goes good for you guys and you don't settle for Anything less than your expectations of a NEW Boat.
I understand not wanting to jeopardize your relationship with HH by publicly calling them out while you're still working to get them to make you whole on the huge investment you made, and while their sales and maintenance team (who may genuinely be people you like) are still trying to work with you... but that boat's a lemon and it should be scrapped, not repaired. Even if you fix the stray current (which is a huge if), there's just no way on a machine that complex that you're going to cost-effectively find every critical part that's now got 40 years of accelerated corrosion. Guarantee that there are bolts, valves, switchgear, thru hulls, and lord knows what else in hard-to-see places that are now well outside of tolerance. And if you've got stray current, plus all these other electrical gremlins, who knows what electrical issues aren't manifesting as visible issues right now that are never the less going to be a problem in a storm, 1,000 miles from shore, a year from now. I wouldn't trust my life on the workmanship of everything else that hasn't yet shown up, given all of these issues. You'd have to strip the thing back down to the bare hull and rebuild it from scratch. It's just not worth it. Extending the warranty is a nice gesture, but you bought a new boat because you wanted a new boat - not a functionally 40 year old boat full of gremlins in dire need of a teardown/rebuild that's gonna spend the next three years mostly on the hard getting warranty work done to make it functional. Make them total it and give you your money back. Go to a different manufacturer, and be done with it.
Two things I don't think its the boat, but the company. HH has produced a subpar product. Imagine all the other owner, they are facing the same issue, without the TH-cam clout. The relationship of the Wynns with HH is a commercial one. They are trying to sell us this boat. All issues, no matter how ridiculous must therefore be covered with nice words.
Or at lest all metal pulled---mast, electronics, keel, props, etc. Can all the internals be pulled??? My mouth dropped when you showed the chain. Didin't you invest highly in chain, so not to have to replace soon? Same w anchor? Am I remembering correctly? An 8th grader knows you can't just use black electrical tape to connect wiring. Surely that is criminal negligence. I don't think anyone could make an excuse for that ridiculous action. No need to answer--much LOVE and peace for a few days. Maybe head to USA to be w family for holidays??
I hear you and I am sure HH will test the integrity of their Hull with full transparency(they don't have much of a choice really but I am confident they will go over and above without hesitation for their customers)...as the Hull is the only thing they actually physically produce. As for all the other things they don't produce that are optional attachments to their Hull...are HH really to blame fully for the short comings with other manufacturing companies, or the contractors that installed them? In reality, isn't HH a new small company starting up and trying to be competitive in a market with lots of fancy modern options at a good price for the sailing enthusiasts? Are HH not standing behind the Wynns and actively working towards resolving all these issues at great expense without hesitation through this painful and very public process? Don't they deserve a chance to make it right...?
I'd be looking to get my money back and let them keep their boat. Even if they solve the stray current issue, the damage already done will be felt for years to come in everything that is made of metal. And for them to replace everything that is made of metal is likely more work than building a new boat. If they give you a new boat, they still can't assure you that you will not have the same problems (even if they are to a lesser degree).
Good luck with that. I feel really lucky that HH refused to let me on one of their boats at a show. (I bought something else). I'm the guy who figures it out when everyone is pulling their hair out, (except, engines and electronics.) Again and again on sailboats, and probably non sailboats as well -- there is no clear bank of knowledge. I bought B&G to upgrade my old radar and chartplotter. I've sailed long distances, 24 hours of watches, for 4 months on boats using B&G - I'm completely flumoxed by a lot of it, never figured out why on one boat we could do one thing but not on two other boats. The manual? If you set out to write the most useless manual ever - the B&G manual is still worse. Contact B&G? Good luck. They've not responded to me even once. Again and again I've felt completely on my own figuring out things. Other areas? My washing machine at home? There are several sources of information and trouble shooting. I can order a part, then strip down the machine, replace that part, clean up a few things, put it back together and problem solved. On my boat? Something like that might take several days. The companies make this stuff, they start selling it before the bugs are worked out. Then they oversell it, promising the moon, and the margins are so tight that they can't really afford to recall it or fix it. So they'll make suggestions and then play out the time it takes them to respond.... until hopefully you give up and go away. I'm really sorry this happened to Nikki and Jason. If this is allowed to happen to TH-cam stars, what do you think will happen to the rest of us?
Absolutely, get your money back, let them fix their shortcomings and misunderstandings and get something else. The boat is great on paper, just net engineered enough and built by people who don't understand what needs to be done.
You two are so good at hiding your emotions, you must be raging and fuming at the builders yet you diplomatically appear so restrained, Enjoy your holiday and i hope your story has a happy ending. 🙂
If the stray current have damage all the metal in the boat and the carbon in hull and other places since carbon conduct electricity. Last thing you want is delamination in the carbon and end up like the submersible that went down to Titanic, it has become a lemon, and they should take it back and give your money back. Sooner or later, some critical bolt somewhere will snap after the warranty has expired, and it will happen out there.
Exactly, it’s what you can’t see that is scary. The anchor was the biggest tell! There are metal parts you can’t replace and they have already been damaged. It’s like rotten stringers, almost un-fixable😢
My advice is to get out of this boat deal. Too damn many issues. Cut your losses. You have the power of the media on your side and it's a powerful ally. I think you've been more than patient with HH. Get your money back or lawyer up. HH has blown this opportunity to make themselves highly regarded. I hope all goes well for you, we all love you guys.
Good point. How did HH given such an unfinished untested boat to one of the biggest sailing channel? If they are this dum, then why would I trust them in anything else?
It's taking mental toll on them, but they haven't asked their money back? It seems that this co. just don't know what they're doing, looking at the 'about us' section on their webpage, seems quite a young team....
You guys are literally alpha testing their new design. I hope you got a big discount for literally working for HH at this point. It's not a finished boat.
I'm actually following all these channels that are getting brand new boats to see which ones have the most problems. Ruby Rose, Delos, Wynns etc. Letting them test the systems before I decide on a new boat in a few years.
This is a giant commercial to not buy from this company. If I had the money I wouldn’t buy or think twice before I bought from them. I am sorry this happened to both of you. Thank u for keeping it real for us.
Four months ago!!! I’d be livid! Once again, I’m so very sorry that you’re going through this. Fingers and toes crossed that there will be some resolution soon. 🤞❤️🤞❤️🤞
What's really unfortunate about this boat is that HH seems unsure how to fix it. It would be hard to trust any repair they make if they're not confident in what they're doing. Jason and Nikki, you both handle this with such professionalism and kindness. I really hope HH steps up to offer you a replacement boat or a full refund.
My concern is that not only do are they unsure how to fix it, when they were test sailing the new design they almost seemed unsure how it would work. HH does not fill me with confidence at this point.
I’m with many who have made the comments! Get your money back . They need to make good to turn this thing around. I for one admired the new design it’s a gorgeous looking boat. But as I stand now, I’m looking elsewhere . It’s a hard in the leg and them. But in life it happens to all of us. So whatever is your choice you certainly have a community that loves you. You guys are awesome. You two are smart savvy, and interesting no matter the trials and tribulations. You both are transparent and show us all how we should behave. Your great examples of what two minds can do when everything goes dark. Continue exploring whatever the path life throws at you, and remember that the two of you are a huge blessing to all of. My heart goes out to you for all you do and what you are! Stay the course, and know the light will shine brighter than before at the next port! God’s Blessings on you both!
It's just an _ORIGINAL_ GUNBOAT knock-off. They fleeced Peter J. and this is the consequence! I don't understand why folks don't do their due diligence before committing to these ridiculous deals.
The problem is a lack of bonding. I am a bonding specialist in aviation. I also installed avionics and electrical systems on aircraft. All electronics and electrical systems must have their chassis bonded electrically together, the spec on aircraft is two milliohms (.002 ohms). This should have been a consideration during manufacturing. Composite panels on aircraft are bonded with conductive material impregnated in the panel. Bonding is important to discharge static buildup. It is complicated now with boats with multiple electrical components and systems. Especially on a sailboat, sails moving through the atmosphere develop a static charge. If this seems complicated, it is. I would start with a bonding buss for all electrical components. This would a thoughtful design and professional installation. Again this would only be a start to attenuate the “stray current. Good luck, Best Regards, Dan.
Dan is correct. This is a known issue with aviation. HH should take the boat back, go through it, find all of the bonding concerns, fix them, then produce a new boat for you. You have been so gracious with them and their quality control failures that were unfortunately predictable. I wish you the best and hope that you can come out the other side with a better boat. The technology is there, the application was poorly executed. I appreciate that this is a prototype, but I worry about when the failure occurs in the middle of the ocean with you two out there alone. Please be safe.
YES, I just spent 2 weeks troubleshooting a UPS that would reboot when the generator power would transfer in. The manufacturer wanted 7,000$ to chase. It wasn’t software or configuration. It was a neutral to ground bonding strap that was removed 2 years earlier when where trying to fix a different problem. the bond was present on utility At the transformer. On generator the transformer isn’t there. You have 2 systems. They are looking for a complex problem, it is something simple. Bonding, bonding, bonding.
This isn't a bonding problem. Systems in a fiberglass boat are bonded together. Airplanes don't float in corrosive, conductive sea water, so they don't have the same galvonic problems a boat experiences.
No, the problem is the boat is made out of carbon fiber which is a totally inappropriate material for an electrical power plant, and now they have electrical fields everywhere and it is impossible to isolate them. The boat is a total loss.
I’m sick for you guys, working so hard for the dream and this happens. There are many eyes watching what you and several other TH-cam channels with other boats are going through .People are paying attention to the brands and the problems everyone is having. HH should 100% make it right for you guys. Hope they figure it out soon. Stay positive and find joy!
Jason and Nikki, you have shown incredible grace under insurmountable circumstances. HH definitely needs to resolve these issues for you in an expeditious manner if they are expecting to continue growing their business and reputation. I know nothing about the mechanics of any sea going vessel but I know people and you are by far some of the most patient and fair people I’ve seen anywhere. Gods speed to you both.
Jason I’m having a red flag go off in my mind. Since you’re having this much erosion on all your metal parts. I absolutely think that all of your wiring and connectors are toast. I think you have way more problems that must be addressed. If any wire or connector shorts out it may cause a fire. The alarm on your refrigerator although aggravating is probably a good indicator that there is an electrical issue. Please be diligent and have everything looked at.
I agree 100%. The alarm on the fridge even after he fixed the shoddy wiring, the batteries exploding, the anchor and chain disintegrating before their very eyes, metal ALL over the boat showing signs of electrical stress, it's giving many indications that something is horribly wrong. Thank God there wasn't a fire while they were out on the water. Yikes!
Not to mention the rigging, I certainly wouldn't trust that anymore unless replaced. Imagine being dismasted out on the open ocean. HH may eventually fix the source of the problem, this boat has become a death trap no matter what
Devastated for you guys, what a mess. I would agree with the many commenters saying that HH should buy this back. You paid a lot for a new boat, but your boat now potentially has multiple compromised systems and parts. Metals, wiring, engines, electronics, carbon hull, rigging, through hulls, chain plates. I can’t see how they can rectify this without basically stripping everything down to bare hull and rebuilding. I’m guessing HH probably does not have a million dollars in free cash to buy the boat back.
Curiosity is your home and I can only imagine the stress that you feel, but if its a tiny shred of consolation, personally speaking, one of the things I like about your channel is that you do go off and do other things, sometimes by choice and sometimes not quite so much. Canal boating in Wales, touring Florence or hauling out for months on end in New Zealand for example, you two always manage to make something interesting to watch. Stay strong Jason and Nikki we're all rooting for you.
My suggestion is to go for a buyback. This way the manufacturer can disassemble it find the problems. This will allow both of you to enjoy life again. Buy backs are happening here in America on motor homes
"This way the manufacturer can disassemble it find the problems." No way will they find the problems. Or they would already have fixed them. If it is only one or two connections that is time consuming but not very complicated. Foir me it looks like a design failure. That can not be remedied by a simple disassemlby.
Chris here from the NZ Electric Boat Company - we supply Combi hybrid systems so this is a very educated guess, not an uninformed comment. I would suggest looking closely at your data networks, for example if both engines are supplying NMEA 2000 data then their "separate" 12v batteries could be linked together via the power wire in the NMEA 2000 bus. Check where and how power is being injected into the NMEA2000 network or CAN bus. It's novel for two of these hybrid systems to be on the same boat, perhaps both sides have N2K power injectors when only one of them should? Or it could be that there is a link between them via the throttle controls. One might assume that amount of current would just burn out the power wire in the N2K cable but if the cable is sufficiently long then the resistance of the wire itself could be regulating the current to a level which doesn't melt the wire. And then... it follows that perhaps your voltage regulator is sensing voltage from that same power wire, so the voltage drop caused by the excess current going over to the battery on the other side would cause the voltage reading in th wire to be much lower than it is at the battery and that would cause the batteries to be overcharged.
Definitely definitely worth checking … in fact check the NMEA install in general … resistance on the data lines … locations of power input … linking as the parent mentioned
i have a custom performance cat with very close specs to the wynns. i basically built my own modelled on the HH44. theres nothing wrong with the basic design. but unfortunately HH made a few mistakes. HH44 is a production boat but they messed up in several areas. mine works perfectly BTW unlike the wynns. i use a lithium only design. my starting batteries are also lithium. the reason they used AGM was Beta recommended AGM start batteries for obtaining warranty and working with the Beta alternator. I removed the Beta alternator and asked for a blank alternator with charging circuit removed. This maintained my Beta warranty while allowing lithium start batteries. There was another issue caused by this which beta didnt help with but i wont go into it, anyway its fixed on my boat after a year. Carbon fiber is conductive so the fasteners MUST be with non conductive spacers. I used plastic spacers to make my metal to carbon fiber contact a non issue as the circuit is broken. any holes for the screws MUST be pre-drilled, filled with spoxy then redrilled. and then the screw goes in with a plastic spacer. Metal resting on carbon fiber base is a battery - This was the problem with the wynns anchor and chain. I used simple GC50 gelcoat on top of carbon fiber in anchor storage and along the anchor chain path. This solved the issue with my stainless anchor and chain (i have the same chain as wynns but i used a rocna vulcan instead of the v2 anchor they used). The victron unit causes a boost to dock voltage. This was solved by using a DC to DC convertor with a programmed trigger voltage for charging causing a voltage pulldown before hitting the boat. HH still has not solved this. Basically there are a bunch of other smaller issues (aluminum tabs, isolated e-bus, DTS, T fuses etc etc) which can be resolved easily if you bother to think about it in advance. This is why I never buy production cats and instead roll my own. basically easier to just buy the bare hull and have a yard finish it to your specs. HH has very good quality control -- just poor system design. dont blame the QA guys - they did their job and fit and finish is superb. blame the idiots who designed the systems on the thing.
@@ysesq interesting post. I don’t agree on one thing. Quality and Q.C. By watching the videos of the final assembly stages and pre-launch, I was not impressed by the materials used and by the overall quality of the finishing. As an industrial and yacht designer I worked in a “yacht boutique” in Italy and we had totally different standards, think about “Spirit Yachts” for a fair comparison. You can reply “HH44” is a production cat. True but a 1.4Mln production cat and their standards are quite far from that price range. Just my personal opinion of course.
@@electric-boat Wow, thank you for explanation. All these electronics on a carbon fiber boat in salt water would trigger anxiety for me. I remember when sailing was simple and enjoyable.
unfortunately you got a lemon, hopefully the manufacturer will make good on it. Make it right. Learning, strange trip it's been.. peace and prayers, yall
Starting over is not a great option. Finding the root cause and refurbishing the boat is likely faster. But supplying a replacement would be a good public relations move given the media exposure. IE get this one back on the water while they build a fresh example and then trade.
They spent so much money on that boat to have the quality be like that... HH should def give them a loaner and do everything they can to fix it because.. nobody would buy from HH again after this... scary
You or HH should pull the fridge an put on an isolated power supply and see if it still alarms. If it doesn’t it means the alarm is due to the stray current issue. I agree with other comments, no way you can trust this boat, who knows what buried metal part will snap under load 2-3 years from now in the middle of the ocean….long after HH warranty has expired.
I do believe that you two need to lawyer up. The longer you wait the harder it will be to get the results you need. As long as H&H insist they can fix this but does not the harder. It gets to recover. I have been through a similar situation before, auto related. I wish I had lawyered up at first. Only they benefit from you not as it puts the ball in their court. If they control it you are at their mercy and they have no pressure.
I hate to say it, but I agree with most comments to cut your losses and try to get your money back. I don’t see how you can have any confidence that: 1. Most of your metal work hasn’t been damaged beyond functionality and 2. HH can fix it.
One of the reasons I love watching you guys is how mature you are. God so many other channels turn it into a high school drama. Your honest but mature about it.
That boat will be the end of your sailing channel unless you get rid of it!! It's jinxed and will never be trusted!! Lawyer up!!! Enjoy Bruges, at least it has a history that can be trusted!
I used to be a telecom technician, and our aerial and underground plant was subject to stray current electrolysis, so I had a bit to do with it at one time or another. The way to track down your problem is to isolate all of your circuits, and remove any unnecessary permanent links between them. For example, do not connect your engine negative rail and your lightning protection and especially not to the house batteries, and certainly NEVER share a common earth between your house batteries and your starting batteries, ESPECIALLY if they are of different output voltages. Use DUAL POLE relays if it is ever required that heavy current draw equipment such as winches and windlasses are connected so that they are completely disconnected immediately the item is turned off. Do not connect your lightning protection to your radio or instrument earths. THESE instruments all need to be connected to one common INSTRUMENT ONLY earthing system. Your engine alternator puts out three phases, which are converted to DC power using a bridge rectifier using four diodes. Phase imbalances should be no problem as long as the rectifier is the ONLY output the alternator has connected to it. This one is important. Check to see if the alternator wiring uses an initial field activation system where the starting battery provides the initial starting up magnetism for the coils in the alternator, and if so, that it is properly connected to the starting switch. It should be wired so that it disconnects the moment the engine starts and the switch is released from the START position and goes to the RUN position. If this circuit does not disconnect, or the activation circuit is permanently connected to the RUN position, the full unregulated EMF voltage of the alternator is possibly bypassing your regulator and possibly putting unregulated high voltages of up to eighty volts or more into your system. Alternatively, it may be draining your batteries non-stop and passing it to earth even when the engine is not running. ALWAYS USE GASEOUS ARRESTERS TO CONNECT YOUR ENGINE AND AND MAST AND METAL RIGGING ETC TO YOUR LIGHNING DISCHARGE PLATE. These are gas-tube isolators which switch on as soon as the voltage applied reaches, say, 100 volts, and discharges continuously until the potential voltage difference to earth falls below the release voltage of maybe forty volts where the discharge PD is no longer sufficient to maintain any current flow. They are a low pressure gas discharge system but can carry quite high currents, and operate with an audible "Pop" when your mast reaches sufficient potential as to maintain passage of current to earth. A SERIOUS STRIKE WILL INITIALLY OPERATE THEM AND IF IT IS TOO LARGE WILL ARC ACROSS THE ELECTRODES AND THEY WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED--BUT HOPEFULLY WITHOUT DAMAGE TO YOUR VESSEL Make sure, and this is a biggie, that when your anchor windlass relays are installed, BOTH cables are disconnected, and not just the one positive, If you do NOT disconnect the negative, you just turned your anchor and chain into a sacrificial anode with the full unregulated output of your alternator AND battery when engine is not running at all. Always ensure that any shore power entering your vessel does so through an isolating transformer or a similar isolating device, or your vessel sitting in salt water becomes the preferred earth for the entire shore power safety system with the obvious predictable results on your own anodes and equipment. Something to give you some thoughts--I hope it is helpful.
You poor b..ers. what was your dream boat has become your worst nightmare!!! Like Mike Banks I too am a retired telecom technician and fully agree with what he has written. Yes with so many contact points between the sea water and each and every metal part on the boat it is no wonder there is "potenial" for this to accur. I truely hope HH can resolove this. But to me this is not a new issue. Sea borne vessels have been around for so long this should have been of no suprise to the builders of your cat. I will be most interested in the final solution when it is found. Best of luck. Hows your mental stress state? Does your warranty cover that too? You are incurring costs beyond the boat problems and is that fair? We wish you all the best.❤❤ From NZ
One of the oddballs (in my mind) with boats is a best practice is connecting AC ground to the DC ground. I've never gotten a decent explanation for this practice but experience with wiring both power and networks and specifically hassles with different potentials between neutral and ground and cables acting as antennae collecting volts makes me think this just can't be a good idea. I had the start switch/alternator wire problem on one of my old tractors. It was back feeding and draining the battery down overnight.
@@MikeBanks2003 Wow! They should consult with guys like you. That was very interesting. Certainly a lack of experience showing up. But tends to be what you get by building with cheap labour.
@@danielboughton3624short to dc ground energizes ground bonding system and engine block. With no connection to a safety ground where does the power go? Water heater short to engine? Wires chaffed between dc/ac wiring ...etc etc.
I know you guys cannot say what the real issues are with this particular boat, but it’s safe to say if you had to do it again you would NOT purchase through HH. Thank you for always being professional, polite and discreet… Just know we feel your pain. My favorite TH-cam channel 😊
While it sucks that you’re not on the boat. You’re safe, and the issue is being worked on. Plus you’re knocking bucket list items off! I’m excited to see what Nikki picks since you already did Jason’s.
As an insurance agent… I hope you have insurance with builders risk insured. If so call the insurance that the boat is total loss. And let them bringing back to the builder. Sounds hard? The problem that’s created here will follow this boat forever. Maybe Seth should swap this one out for good marketing reasons with the next available
I would be asking for my money back and I would give the boat back. The whole thing has been one saga after another. Hugs guys. Can’t wait to see next week’s video 💙
HH built a dream boat that has become a bit of a nightmare. Jason and Nicki are the most diligent clients-they thought through every detail. Their fastidiousness allows HH to learn but not at the Wynns' cost. ⛵I'm so sorry you have been put through such stress. I'll watch your channel whatever you do. Good luck. 🤗🤗
I can’t tell you how much I enjoy just watching both sit at the kitchen table discussing life over a cup of tea. Stay safe and thanks for taking us along.
So much great advice from so many experienced professionals. These advisers could probably design and build you a new perfect boat. My great-great grandfather built his own small sailing vessel after he finished serving during the U.S. civil war. Small shipping in the Great Lakes. He'd been a laborer in the ship building business in England. But then is not now. You're both fine people. Thanks for taking us along on your life adventures.
Have been through an extremely similar situation that resulted in an electrical fire, 2 year court case and a painful truth; it does not matter if the electrical installer is "approved" or not by the equipment suppliers, and I used one of the most well known marine suppliers of these systems, the truth is that there are FEW electrical installers that understand how too make this type of system work - it is way beyond most installers ability and despite the clear installation instructions supplied by the OEMs they still screw it up. The only way out of the problem was to engage an extremely experienced electrical systems engineer (yes an electrical engineer not an electrician) from The Netherlands, who also happens to work extremely closely with both Victron and MG. It took a year to fix from initial inspection and resulted in ALL of the new wiring being ripped out. I cannot recommend both Wim & Cees from New Energy Today highly enough.
@@Kathikas1Unfortunately my story is not allowed to be told due to legal restrictions in the Asian country that I live in - I won the court case BUT the 2 companies involved cannot be named......
I'm so sorry you are having to go through all this. I can't even imagine all the extra expenses you're having to incur since you can't live in/on your home! I hope HH can resolve all the issues and replace all the compromised components!
Please Get rid of that Boat!! you should be out enjoying life, not chasing problems on an experimental boat. There’s plenty of boats out there that are tried and tested that don’t have as many issues.
Well I wasn’t expecting this type of video but I can’t say I’m fully surprised. It’s a shame that you’ve essentially just been dealing with problems since day one. I appreciate you showing us and catching us up to date. Love the pivot of going to Belgium and honestly I enjoy these videos of your travel experiences immensely. Hopefully HH will diagnose 100% correctly and swiftly, at least from this point, repair, replace and restore not just the parts on the boat but the confidence in HH and the reputation they wish to maintain. Enjoy your trip Wynn’s.
I have so much respect for your ability to tell your story. You delivered a really strong concise message without going off on a rant. You've done quite the job environmentaly testing all of these products to help advance the industry, now its H&H's job to apply the necessary resources to solidify the product. I dont know how anyone can comment on a solution without totally immersing themselves into the design and the actual as built product so i will leave it there. God bless you both and keep you strong and focused with just enough humor to enjoy
This just makes me physically ill! I hope they will resolve all this...boat seemed so perfect during build. What a hot mess...God bless you with patience and fortitude!
It seems many of the channels with new boats (Ruby Rose, La Vagabonde, Travel Sketch & Wynns) are having significant issues with their new boats. What really matters is how the companies deal with the issues and any long term impacts on the boats. It seems out of Rapido, HH, Seawind & Leopard that HH and Seawind seem to be the best in trying to make things right with their boats. One does have to wonder how responsive they would be if the issues weren't shown weekly on widely seen TH-cam channels. At some point after the stray current issue is resolved, you should get an outside marine surveyor to do a complete inspection of the boat with an emphasis on everything metal on the boat.
Bobby from Sailing Doodles is doing OK with his island spirt 550 , I'm surprised because it's an all electric boat. But so far, it's only sailed around some Tai islands ,currently, it's on a transport ship heading for Florida.
The Rapido trimaran is the worst I have seen given the cost. It's horribly uncomfortable and poorly designed. I fear for the safety of the family. Yet, even when you think of everything, it can go wrong, as Nicki and Jason show. I agree that having a huge TH-cam presence helps move builders to respond. What about those without successful channels?
Ruby Rose 2 had three major problems and a hundred little ones (like a clock not being screwed on straight) The big three were 1. Poor davit design (not technically a problem but does make life a bit more difficult) Seawind pulled it out and replaced it with a better system 2. Sails chaffing and wearing - caused by lazy bag material rubbing on the sail. Seawind replace both bag and sail 3. Solar panels delaminating. - Seawind replaced under warranty. So yes, Ruby Rose 2 did have problems but Seawind dealt with them in a collaborative manner and fixed the problems immediately. Technically they didn’t have to replace the dinghy davits, as the owners would have known the style that came with the boat, but they did it anyway. Meanwhile the Wynns have solar issues and HH hasn’t moved quickly to replace them, unlike the experience Ruby Rose had. As a business owner I know that reputation with the public, especially in a niche area like sailing, is everything. HH has really dropped the ball and the brand damage is increasing every day. Just look at the comments. Nobody wants to buy a new or second hand HH now.
I was a marine sparky for over 20 years and was invoved in many stray current problems back in the 80's and 90's, mainly because I was one of the few that had a Galvonic Probe back then, and I can tell you that this problem has increased over the years as we introduced more electrical equipment into our boats. I spent 8 hours on one boat tracking down the problems and the owner was amazed to find out that I found 12 different problems on that cruiser. With good test equipment you can find the problems, hopefully HH will get all of them fixed for you, I can almost guarantee there is more than one problem. Very disappointing, but this unfortunately has become the way of the world, too many labourers and not enough qualified tradesman. I really hope you/they get this sorted.
@@DCA001TUBE your on the money here, I’ve worked on steel and aluminium commercial trawlers for many years and the issues can be sorted if the right person can identify all the spots leaking power into the boats metal components.
I’m so sorry that you guys are going thought this mess. Like someone else said, I will follow you two no matter what you are doing. I did not start watching you until the last year of your RV travels, but I do look forward to every Sunday morning to watch and see what is up with the Wynns. Love you guys. Good luck with the boat.
Interesting. Just saw HH video response to your video. How are you feeling about it? Sounds like they are admitting to their issues and plan to make all this right and they found the stray current issue which is huge!
With all the ups and downs you have, you still maintain a great attitude and provide unparalleled quality content. Continue to make the best of your journey.
I know you guys are sailing as a channel however, you traveling practically anywhere would be terrific simply because you make such awesome videos. My heart goes out to you about the boat. That’s so bloody frustrating. We both know it’s normal for anything new it could be a new house to have the issues, but that doesn’t make it any easier.
I watched the HH video and they seem to be honourable me and standing by you and correcting the build problems for all owners. Hopefully, in short order you will be thrilled again with the boat. Blessings.
I’m not here to offer solutions but to express my admiration at the restraint you have shown, at least in public, with regard to the forever escalating electric issues and the consequential mechanical issues that have befallen you. I sincerely hope permanent solutions are found soon so that you can return to your life at sea.
My wife and I never sailed a day in our life but we love your channel. Been watching since you had the RV, we thought once you got the boat it'd lose our interest but to the contrary, your content and editing has only gotten better and better. What a situation with the boat, things we never knew about and love how you don't just show the happy and glamourous side of travel. Surely you will get through this, keep your health and definitely a great plan to get off the boat and relieve some stress.
Dear me, what a roller coaster for sure. Seems to me 2 other of my favourite sailing TH-camrs have had issues with their new boat. What is going on. Sending good vibes on everything working out. But in the mean time, enjoy some TLC and good beer to lighten the mood.🍻
I swear I would watch you both clean your house and I would watch for an hour! You make me feel like I’m a part of your family and you are telling me what is going on with your travels. Have a great time traveling by land and post anything you like, I will watch it ❤
Not fair to HH unless they Have a track record of failures. Let's see what they do to rectify the situation.. My thought is because of the systemic stray current and all the metal it's affacted. It seems the only real option is a replacement.
I feel for you. It's your home, not just a TH-cam channel. I hope everything gets fixed one way or another. I love your videos whenever you are and whatever your next adventures entails ❤
You guys have definitely got the short straw with respect to teething issues but appear to be handling it very professionally and sharing the journey with everyone very well given the circumstances. Thanks again for your time sharing this experience as it is part and parcel of the journey.
Thinking the same thing, new design, new factory...is it just this one boat? HH needs to get a skilled team together to do a top down assessment, personal experience, electrical problems can be from multiple points.
You guys are an amazing exemplar of resilience! Thank you for sharing all your trials and tribulations in such a fair-minded way. Many people on social media would have been ranting and raving, but you guys are role models for how to "fall back and punt" while advocating for what is right with HH. Bravo!!
Wow! :( Anchor and chain destroyed, batteries destroyed, fridge perpetually failing, solar panels destroyed, engines clogging with sludge, wiring so bad Jason won't discuss it, zincs melting, all metal on the boat rusting! Hopefully you are not being this pleasant and gracious when talking to HH. This seems closer to a "We'll give you a new boat" situation rather than "offering to extend your warranty 'on the bits related to this unknown' ", although if offered that I might just ask for my money back and try another company. I know, I know.. Just frustrated for you so I can't even begin to imagine your level of frustration. You have had plenty of non sailing content and it has been enjoyable as well. Looking forward to your adventures in whatever format they take.
Hi guys. If you want to come to Brussels you are most welcome to our house. We all are with you supporting you in your troubles! Have a Nice day in Bruges!
Wow. We have a marine electrics business; my spouse is an ABYC Certified Advanced electrician and is just getting the new certification for Marine Corrosion. This is a very complex issue. I watched the introductory seminar with him. It blows my mind that more boats don't have stray current issues, or that many more do have issues and haven't identified that's what it is. We feel for you and the frustration of the situation. We also appreciate your hard work and dedication in continuing to make videos while troubleshooting all the issues. You are 100% correct about the lithium technology being very reliable, as are the hybrid technologies. It does add to the complexity of the yacht systems, and that is where the challenge comes in, including carbon fiber construction. We look forward to the expected solutions and hope it happens quickly for you. Touch wood. Enjoy the off-the-boat-breather, you deserve a break. Namaste. 🙏
Having experienced the pains new boat warranty can bring, including some similar issues to what you've had, we empathise with what you're going through. It's great though to have such a strong community behind you and that you're prioritising your mental health and relationship. All the best having it fixed, hopefully HH get you sorted without too much hardship and lost sailing time, and you're back to living the dream soon 🤞⛵️
Dear Mr.&Mrs.Wynn, I am glad you are safe. Your well being, safety is numero uno. Perhaps, you can reach out to the owner, ask for a new boat, they can utilize this boat as research for their engineers, employee travel perks. Rename as Wynn-Wynn. Happy travels.
Hey Guys! Ruthie & Val here, Thank you for the update, we got worried a few times watching the last few videos. All aside from the frustration and technical difficulties what matters is that you both are safe & healthy. You guys handled this big situation with a lot of patience. Cousin Matt loves Belgium beers! Val & him bonded over it, Val makes homemade beer with his best friend, pretty tasty I would say. I wish you two get the well deserved rest and recuperation that is needed. 🫶 Take care y’all.
So just a few thoughts. First, i would hope, want, demand HH cover all your housing rental costs until the vessel is certified healthy. Next, given all the issues, i would demand they extended the warranty period, to start from when they certify the vessel completely healthy. Next, i would want, demand, a signed document from HH stating what the issues were, the fixes they put in place, and certification that the vessel is 100% healthy at the time of handover. I would also include in that document an agreement to refund all monies, and compensation for loss of income etc, if any of these issues return in the adjusted warranty period. Lets be clear, HH have a LOT to lose here, given your online profiles, you certainly have more "pull" than the average purchaser of their product. Understand i'm not saying it is a bad product, but i do feel perhaps rushed into general production without adequate testing, which you are now providing for them! I'm 110% positive you are on top of all this, but WOW, the phenomenal expenses incurred by yourselves whilst all this gets sorted. Can only wish you safe journeys, and a great resolution, not a fast one, as i think meticulous attention to details is now warranted. Understand your need to escape from the stress and leave it to HH. Personally i would want them to transport the vessel back to the factory to be gone over completely, every piece of metal to be replaced, even the engines replaced given the sludge, which has to be detrimental to their long term health. Good luck to both of you, Go visit Eddy Merckx bike factory, check and see if the Ghent six day bike race is on, you'll love it!
The Wynns are not alone in believing their ability to monetise TH-cam videos will enable them to live their dream and cruise the world on a cutting-edge yacht. Sadly, few things in life are that easy. Having raced and cruised my own boat extensively over the past 30 years, I speak from experience when I say the level of safety, security and enjoyment is directly related to the level of knowledge and understanding of every aspect of the boat. Rather than visiting Europe at this time, it may be worth considering getting back on the boat and beginning to fill in the knowledge gaps that have contributed to the current situation.
Hey Wynns, your year has had lots of expectations and hopes. And they are well founded because there are a lot of good people with heart doing their best to deliver an awesome boat for you. There is a lot of heart and pride and science and energy from the HH team as well as other teams, everyone else who makes the engines and batteries and refrigerators and ... everything in your boat. And from you as well. The heart and pride and good will of everyone is good, from what I see. But you've faced some challenges, experienced valid reasons for worrying about your safety. And you've experienced some disappointments and frustrations, that maybe felt pretty deep. I'm mostly impressed with your resiliency, graciousness and thoughtfulness in facing and overcoming issues, obstacles. And I'm impressed with your efforts to team back with everyone at HH and others to understand what is causing the issues, how to fix them. Your teaming to sail, troubleshoot issues, understands them, help resolve them is a reflection of heart, pride and good will ... as well. Sorry for your tough year. Be kind to yourself, recharge yourselves. Good luck, thanks. Mark
When you consider all the time you had to wait for the boat to be built in the first place, then the past nine months of endless problems, this has got to be torture! I know I would not have the fortitude to deal with all of this. I admire your strength and positive attitude. All the best!
It’s so amazing how still how positive you are. I would be so livid. I would demand a whole new boat. It’s like you got a lemon. I’m so sorry that you’re having to go through all. This must be a lesson than it somewhere. Bless you both. Sending love from LIZ in California.🤟🏻😎🥰😍🇺🇸⛵️🐬
I’m so sorry for you 😢 I pray you find peace and comfort to set sail again soon. Until then, bravo for how you are handling the situation and sharing that with so many to learn from. 🙌
Wow😢 I am so very sorry for all of your issues. I know that "stuff" happens, but holy cow! Keep calm and carry on. I am hoping it resolves soon. Thanks for letting me tag along!😊
HH should just buy back the boat to re-gain control over the discussion and all should sign a non-disclosure agreement. From there we may expect HH to explain the problem and resolution in full details :)
Seems like you guys are being way more optimistic than I could be. Hope you get it all sorted out before the warranty runs out (or b4 HH goes out of business)
That's my concern to. Now this video is out every buyer for HH, EVERY ONE of which is watching your channel is going through their order and seeing how they can back out and their new sales will collapse pretty quickly. With HH having no money you're going to be left in a very difficult spot. I'd lawyer up RIGHT NOW and protect yourself, the time for being nice is gone!
If I remember correctly this boat they opted for was not a carbon fiber hull
I suspect stray current may be due to bad grounding.
It is a full carbon fiber hull and all structural bulk heads, and structural components @@richardsilver8485

The Wynns positivity makes every bad news better.Keep handling things with grace that is why we admire you so much.
Positivity???
Yes

When the manufacturer holds your boats title and loan papers, it is best to be polite. Tis what happens when you partner with your builder.

I think the vendor gave them the boat as a sponsorship. Nothing like a 'free boat'!
Key word

Yup, boat is garbage , dump it and get an Antares 44. Tough reliable boat had one for 8 years. no problems outside of normal maintenance

You both are being really kind to a manufacturer that has really dropped the ball
New boat...new "TYPE" moreover.
Anyone can produce a lemon, and everyone has.
It's bad publicity for the manufacturer
@@Thomas-eu6fj It could ruin them. And will ruin the preowned market even more.
It makes sense to work together as long as HH is taking the blame and working on a solution. It is professional on their end to behave this way and we can all root for them to solve all these problems. It is a Win Wynn LOL
Resealing the windows on the old boat doesn’t seem so bad now🤣
"ouch" that's a gut punch, hindsight is always 20/20.
I remember those episodes too.
Yep.
Except the floor fell out .😂
Its hard to imagine how HH is feeling. They have the ultimate client that wants a new Boat. One of the biggest social media influencers in your industry. A dream client. Roll out red carpet. I/we all hope this process goes good for you guys and you don't settle for Anything less than your expectations of a NEW Boat.
and then leave them hanging for three months after promising a 10 day warranty job? yeah, I bet they feel great.
Two things
I don't think its the boat, but the company.
Maybe head to USA to be w family for holidays??
are the HH44s built since having these problems? Or are you the only Beta out there?
@@PatriciaKlein-iz5vfBETA is no excuse for THIS.
Absolutely correct. Failure of a metal component will ALWAYS be on your mind.
Absolutely, get your money back, let them fix their shortcomings and misunderstandings and get something else. The boat is great on paper, just net engineered enough and built by people who don't understand what needs to be done.
@@WillN2Go1 The only real fix for B&G (Bitch and Groan) is Garmin. Expensive, but it's worth every nickel.

Good luck,
Best Regards,
Dan.

Ruby Rose, La Vagabond.
Travel Scetch… Leopard 45, they’ve been the yard for almost 2 years insanity.
HH may eventually fix the source of the problem, this boat has become a death trap no matter what
Maybe all electric is not the way to go on a boat that floats in a salty sea! 🤔
Exactly! Demand a refund before the economy turns bad, before HH declares financial bankruptcy. Time to pull the cord!
I tried that with GM Canada....didn't work!
"This way the manufacturer can disassemble it find the problems." No way will they find the problems. Or they would already have fixed them. If it is only one or two connections that is time consuming but not very complicated. Foir me it looks like a design failure. That can not be remedied by a simple disassemlby.
Seems many boat mfg. are in a race to catch-up to the poor practices that the RV industry has invented.
I think that would be a smart way for hh to mitigate the PR disaster this is becoming
They are in a underdeveloped foreign country. Buyback would be laughed at.
Very interesting. Should be easy enough to test.
This new design is obviously a Lemon, HH has work to do
It would be interesting to see if the other boats that they made also have this issue.
❤ yes lemonade owner's Union
This is a known issue with carbon fibre construction it requires that everything metal must be isolated from the carbon fibre.
My heart breaks for you. Life changes are hard. They need to give your money back and keep their boat!
Starting over is not a great option. Finding the root cause and refurbishing the boat is likely faster. But supplying a replacement would be a good public relations move given the media exposure. IE get this one back on the water while they build a fresh example and then trade.
You are tripping
Are all the other HH new boats having similar/same issues?
They spent so much money on that boat to have the quality be like that... HH should def give them a loaner and do everything they can to fix it because.. nobody would buy from HH again after this... scary
Million dollar boat problems are problems that very few people are blessed to have.
HH was at the top of my list. Thankyou for sharing and your kindness...to HH. That's a year you will never get back
Go back and look at the history of Gunboat. The original company that Peter J. started - Nigel Irens was main architect.
The only expert I would be employing at this point is an attorney. You guys are the best at travel videos. Keep it up. And Best of luck.

You two are a class act. I trust it will all work out.
Class action..
A SERIOUS STRIKE WILL INITIALLY OPERATE THEM AND IF IT IS TOO LARGE WILL ARC ACROSS THE ELECTRODES AND THEY WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED--BUT HOPEFULLY WITHOUT DAMAGE TO YOUR VESSEL
Make sure, and this is a biggie, that when your anchor windlass relays are installed, BOTH cables are disconnected, and not just the one positive, If you do NOT disconnect the negative, you just turned your anchor and chain into a sacrificial anode with the full unregulated output of your alternator AND battery when engine is not running at all.
We wish you all the best.❤❤

@@annelee2005 their Rapido is definitely not a family boat. Riley was so worried about weight that he wouldn't even allow a washing machine.
Ruby Rose 2 had three major problems and a hundred little ones (like a clock not being screwed on straight) The big three were
1. Poor davit design (not technically a problem but does make life a bit more difficult) Seawind pulled it out and replaced it with a better system
2. Sails chaffing and wearing - caused by lazy bag material rubbing on the sail. Seawind replace both bag and sail
Please go in more detail. Thanks

We feel for you and the frustration of the situation. We also appreciate your hard work and dedication in continuing to make videos while troubleshooting all the issues. Cousin Matt loves Belgium beers!
Val & him bonded over it, Val makes homemade beer with his best friend, pretty tasty I would say.
I wish you two get the well deserved rest and recuperation that is needed. 🫶
Take care y’all.
Thanks Ruth, we are looking forward to trying one of Val's beers next visit.
I am so impressed with how calmly you are delivering these details to us. Even 4 months out, this would be incredibly difficult to talk about.
I imagine the level of frustration you two must have endured. Very sorry to hear and hope you get some good news quickly.
Don't leave us hanging, I hope we get an update soon. Sitting on the edge of my seat for you guys.
Amazing optimism Wynns! Any new HH owners in your build line will need some major assurance following this!
So they paid for good heart not an expertly built dream boat? The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
the more I watch the more the boat is toast!!, HH doing a complete rebuild!!!
Exactly. Way too many things are wrong.
No- get a different boat. Different manufacturers.
Yes! New boat!
HH should give you a new boat and taking that one in as a test bed.
New Boat, & Not a boat from a ChiCom builder.
I think u got a lemon 🍋 guys ,this many issues already will probably lead to issues down the line good luck have fun in Belgium it's a great place
Sooo sorry you guys are struggling! It sucks but i know you will get through this!✌️💙
Life is an adventure. We’re here with you!
Most realistic comment!
