🎅 When I was a kid in the 80s, my grandfather used to ask each family member to “say a few words” on Christmas Eve and record it on a cassette. He would also give a little summary of what happened that year. Many of those family members have passed away. Although not a gift at the time, these tapes have become one of my most cherished gifts as an adult.
🎅🏻🧑🏻🎄..I think more than a favorite gift.. it was the feeling. Christmas morning was happy and peaceful.. and all the things that can make a child smile! I love the idea of thrifting gifts and the meaning behind it.🎄✌️🙂❤️
You’re right. I think we spend so much time and energy trying to recapture the magic of our childhood Christmases. You can find so many unique treasures thrifting gifts.
When I was a wee girl aged 5 I got out of hospital just in time for Christmas. I had had major eye surgery & it was advised no tv at all , all my family never watched tv because of me. I’ve never forgot the fun we had playing games & being so loved / cared for. I had the best parents ever ❤️❤️❤️ 🤶 🎅
Oh my goodness. This may be my favourite story yet. What incredible support and camaraderie this fostered. I love this so much, thank you for sharing ❤️
🤶 I remember many years ago the first Christmas after my mom and stepdad were married ,we spent Christmas Day at my stepdad’s mother’s house. We all called her Mimi. I received my first Christmas gift from her that day. It was a doll that I really wanted but hadn’t told anyone. She just knew! I still have that doll! ❤ Mimi was always so thoughtful and made me feel special!🥰
Oh man! I remember when I got a strawberry shortcake doll gift set with talcum powder which I kept for years because the scent made me so happy! Strawberry Shortcake was my girl.
🎅🏻🤶🏻. My most memorable gift is a watercolour painting of the British Virgin Islands. Many of the boats in the painting are from the area I lived (West End) after I had been deported from them 2 weeks earlier for working when I was 18 years old. The boyfriend who gave it to me has since passed and it makes it even more special to me
🧑🏻🎄 you're making lovely Christmas memories for you & your family :) I still have my favorite gift ever - it was 1973, I was in 4th grade (youngest of 6 kids) & my parents were struggling in a bad way financially that year. I received 1 gift from Santa, an acrylic grand piano music box with a dancing couple on top. My older sister explained parent/Santa to me and I've always cherished my music box and play it mostly on Christmas Day in remembrance of my parents ~ it reminds me to always be truly grateful for any gifts I receive as people may sacrifice to bring some joy to you🎅🏻
As a kid it was a pair of shiny white go go boots (60’s). As an adult it is the kitchen aid mixer my husband surprised me with. I would have never dreamt to even ask for it. Love it so many years later
Ok- Love Mike’s adoration for you! That’s so sweet! That wrinkles dog is beyond cute! Yes, as a 80s Ontario kid, we had Wrinkles! Did you ever find all your Santa mugs???? Best gift as a child was my German Zapf dolls (like an American Girl but way better). I loved them and took them everywhere! Also maybe my dollhouse. I LOVED and spent so much time playing with it.
🧑🎄🎅📚my most memorable gift was an Allied Van filled with all kinds of trinkets … a compass inside a tire being the one I most remember and the other gift later in my early teens was a little transistor radio with a strap that we each received … hung on the bedpost by my head so I could listen to music after going to bed! 🤗❤️😊
My son has collected Wrinkles Dogs for the past few years. He has about 11 plus two moose and two elephant. I know what you mean about how hard it is to leave them behind. I think it's because they are all unique! Hand sewn faces, and different clothes. We love Peterborough, pass through there often when travelling to my parent's place in Madoc.
You’re the second person to tell me there Moose wrinkles and I want one so badly now! I’ve never seen one while thrifting. What a small world! I was born in Peterborough ❤️
My cabbage patch dolls and a pink cassette player where I played Rick Astley over and over! I loved my Wrinkles dogs - I still have my 2. They really do have the sweetsst faces .
🎅most memorable is a Sit & Spin. It was the first time I ran into parents wrapping gifts the night before and I saw it. When it was there the next day it said it was from Santa. That was my realization that he was my parents.
Can everyone say puppy puppet 5x in a row. I had difficulty saying it once.😂 The puppy puppet is adorable. Caramel is absolutely the best especially with chocolate but Caramel is a teensy bit better. I've never made it before. I buy it all time and it never last very long. ❤❤😊love all your videos, and you are very talented in all you do and appreciate how you love the wildlife.
My most favourite gifts are those of my childhood, the anticipation of Santa and hoping you get what you most desire. But as an adult my most special gifts are the years my husband plans theme gifts for an adventure. One year it was a weekend away in a Yurt at Algonquin and I got the slippers and things needed and he even built a model replica of the yurt outhouse! Then the following year was a yarn crawl day with the map and locations and money for the yarn haul! Most exciting! I love it when your husband joins you on the camera! Such a lovely family! ❤ 🎅🤶
Oh wow! Those are epic and super thoughtful gifts from your husband. You hit the jackpot with that gift giving king 😉😂👌🏼. Thank you for the kind words ❤️
How weird your husband mentioned Midnight Oil. I was a nanny in Vancouver in 88 and remember that was the year they became 'big' I bought their Cassette too:) Hi from North Wales
🎅... Bonjovi tickets! I was around 13 or 14. They were wrapped in a huge box and when I opened it there was a smaller box and on and on till I came to an envelope. I cried.
The one thing I remember getting that I really wanted was a pink Barbie sports car. I was so happy to get it! On Christmas Day that I received it, my cousin broke it. I was so upset.
🧑🏼🎄🎅🏻Ooo butter rum Lifesavers! I haven’t had those in forever - and caramel yum! 😋 My favorite gift as a child was a portable record player and some of the books with the record in the back. They were audiobooks for kids and they would ring a bell when you are supposed to turn the page so you could read along. 📚♥️
Omg! Yes! I would spend hours with those read along record books! I loved Winnie the Pooh. Wow, I had forgotten about those for a minute! And those lifesavers! I used to get a whole book of them with all the flavours at Christmas and there is one random gas station on our way to town that sells these for some reason and my husband always buys them for us to share ❤️
🤶🏻the gifts I love the most are the handmade ones…… and from small makers ….. I am not good at receiving gift, I love giving much more….. I am not that good on surprises…..🙈🙈
That’s why I love this question because it is so heart warming to hear what people recall most fondly and it’s usually tied to a kindness, sacrifice, or thoughtfulness ❤️
i always wanted a mink coat as a kid. Well that was never gonna happen. I did get a pin in the shape of a mink made of mink fur. I will never forget this.
🎅 last year my husband gave me a set of vintage dishes, they're gorgeous and have silver rims which differ from so many patterns that have gold looking ones. He remembered an off handed comment I made about wanting more vintage looking dishes, and knows I prefer silver over gold in general, so when he so those at a second hand store he scooped them up ❤ it was unexpected and so thoughtful, which meant so much!
Wow, vintage dishes with silver rims, that sounds beautiful! And that was so incredibly thoughtful of him. That was the record player gift Mike gave me too. He made a special trip into Toronto (they were hard to find back then 😉) and paid too much, but he remembered I wanted one.
Someday, I will see all your Vlogmas-not in the order you recorded them, of course.🤷 Ilene and I talked about you last night (where your ears were burning). We figure you must think we're loony messaging you etc. lol had no idea we were both doing that! I never got special or great christmas presents, others around me did, even into adulthood. BUT when I was 14 my parents bought me an organ. And electric organ. and 11 free lessons lol I loved that thing and it made up for a Lot of things. Merry Christmas Eve! xo🤶
Haha! I don’t think you’re looney at all! Why would I think that?! That’s a pretty fun gift! I remember playing on the organ great grandma and great grandpa had in their house! Merry Christmas 🎅🏼 🎄🤶🏼❤️
My most cherished gift was when my grandma gave me a doll and hand knitted all her clothes and they were all packed in a little cute suitcase. That was THE best!! Unfortunately my mom did not keep them and I’m so sad I do not have those to this day.
That sounds so beautiful! Wow, what a gift 🎁 This made me remember a beautiful doll house my aunt made for me and all the doll furniture! It was incredible, but my step mom didn’t keep it, sadly 🥺.
🤶🎅 my jelly was called cherry pink peppercorn on day 15❤ how interesting we got similar but different jellies today. I think those cute dog puppets are Canadian, I’ve not seen any in the states. I’m not even kidding, you and Mike are like a younger version of me and Rich. Rich even watched tonight with me and we both said it’s like watching and our family a decade ago. Lastly my most favorite Christmas gift….thats a hard one but what I think was a special and simple memory is, last year Rich got me a letter opener and I got him a box cutter/opener. It’s all we both wanted. I put a label on mine that reads keep going. Lots of love from the Wylde West❤
Ahh! I think I translated it wrong! Rose must have mean the colour…and I feel like peppercorn may be similar to berries! Interesting, but I’m not surprised. I just love them. That makes me so happy that we are like you two! You seems so happy and youthful (I mean you ARE young, but like in your ideas and minds if that makes sense). That warms my heart. I love the simplicity of those gifts. Love you, friend ❤️
We grew some too now that I think of it! They were late berries and grew into November one year (pretty crazy for where we live) and were delicious! Can’t believe I didn’t think of that!
great video. Loved it. Subbed immediately. we daily vlog too and love daily life videos. the caramel looked great. Can't do emoji's on here LOL🧑🎄 Oh wait yes figured it out on the keyboard haha
my most memorable is not the same as my favorite. My first husband gave me rubber galoshes for Christmas one year. The kind you put on over your shoes that are clear. I thought that was memorable and not in a good way 😂😂😂
You guys are so cute! I love how he loves you. As a child I grew up really poor. So I wanted two things and my grandma came through. It was a life size doll that her hair would get long and short by pulling her arm. The second gift as a child was a puppy. I wanted nothing more. But now my most precious gift will always be my kids. Loosing my son was eye opener for me and I will never take anything in my life for granted. Although I’m not perfect and I sometimes feel like I do. But I pray this year I will work on that. Tyfs another great sweet video, loved your haul too ❤ 🧑🎄p.s not to be weird… but you have a beautiful smile ❤
Grandmas are so special. I still miss mine. That’s a great point. Gifts are so fun and often meaningful, but nothing replaces the family and friends. You’re human. Go easy on yourself as you work towards being better ❤️. That’s not weird! It’s a very kind compliment🥰…thank you
I love how your husband joined in with the Jelly taste testing. I have never seen a wrinkles dog, In the U.S. we had pound puppy dogs that were popular in the 1980s. Those books are beautiful and sound really good. I am watching Prime and Prejudice now filmed in 1995. Awe Richard Scarry book, I had a lot of those for my kids. oh my gosh, your husband is so sweet! Don't tell him that I wrote that lol My most cherished gift was my first stereo at 15 lol and also I did love my first 10 speed at the age of only 10 both from my parents who now are in heaven.
🤶🎅One Christmas I had 3 things I asked for. A Monopoly Game. A particular little doll and a sewing machine so I could make her clothes. I received all 3. ❤. Not sure I ever made any doll clothes but we did play Monopoly Your Caramel!! It looks amazing. I’d be eating it with a spoon, no need to wrap
I love it. I remember spending hours playing monopoly games that would stretch over days with my cousins. The caramels are amazing. Everyone loves them. By the spoonful is the best.
🧑🏼🎄 I love The Secret Book of Flora Lea! When it was published last year the author came to my local bookstore for a signing and I got to meet her. She's so lovely and the book is so good. As for most cherished gifts, that's really hard... My husband surprised me with a puppy two years ago, and a gorgeous set of interchangeable knitting needles the year before that, and a beautiful leather covered Dickens story collection several years before that... Favorites from my childhood were cabbage patch dolls. 😍😍 I enjoyed your video... And I may have to go make some toast now. 😅
🧑🎄Your sweater looks lovely on you. I remember wanting a wrinkles dog so badly when I was younger. My boyfriend at the time tried to win me one from the fair sadly he lost all his money trying lol.
Great job. I was trying to catch your recipe but couldn't read it with the blue background. But my eyesight is not great. I will watch again to see if I can catch it. And your daughter's sweater looks like the one you guys got the other day, You wondered about the sleeves, she looks perfect in it. Your sweater also looks perfect. Hope you don't poop out making vlogmas happen.
I just figured out a simple way to add the recipes to my video description if you’d like to make them! Yes! We are both wearing our thrifted sweater treasures and they’re perfect! I’m glad you noticed ❤️
🎅 Truly, before you said your Cabbage Patch doll was your most memorable, I already had in my head that mine was the Cabbage Patch doll that my grandma made for me because we couldn't afford the real deal. She maaaaade one! Her sewing skills did not transfer down to me, quite unfortunately.😅❤
Oh wow! That is so impressive! I can sort of sew, but I haven’t done it for years. It’s wild the things people were capable of making like no big deal!
🎅 When I was a kid in the 80s, my grandfather used to ask each family member to “say a few words” on Christmas Eve and record it on a cassette. As a kid the gift I treasured was a strawberry shortcake doll! I was 9 years old ☺🎅

I really loved dolls too, though I don’t have any from my childhood
As a kid it was a pair of shiny white go go boots (60’s). As an adult it is the kitchen aid mixer my husband surprised me with. I would have never dreamt to even ask for it. Love it so many years later
Wow! Go go boots! I love it.
I remember I spent my Christmas money on a kitchenaid mixer on Boxing Day 15 years ago and never regretted it!
Ok- Love Mike’s adoration for you! That’s so sweet!
That wrinkles dog is beyond cute! Yes, as a 80s Ontario kid, we had Wrinkles!

I never knew this! I love hearing the answers to these questions. Just when I thought I knew everything about you ❤️🥹
🤶🏻🎅🏻 in the 60s I loved my first Spirograph!! And a Barbie fashion maker kit 🎨!!
I got a Spirograph too! Hours of fun!

🎅🏼 I loved my alarm clock as I could play music loud in my room away from the family 😅 Midnight Oil are amazing still going here in Oz
Haha! Freedom!
That’s so fun. I feel like I must know the music, I am just terrible with band names and song names 🙃
How weird your husband mentioned Midnight Oil. I was a nanny in Vancouver in 88 and remember that was the year they became 'big' I bought their Cassette too:) Hi from North Wales
Haha! He was born in 77 so it wouldn’t have been too far off when he received it.
Wales?! How fun. Welcome!
☃️always a doll under the tree

My husband surprised me with a puppy two years ago, and a gorgeous set of interchangeable knitting needles the year before that, and a beautiful leather covered Dickens story collection several years before that... Favorites from my childhood were cabbage patch dolls. 😍😍
I enjoyed your video... And I may have to go make some toast now. 😅
Oh that’s so cool and I’m glad to hear it’s a good one! January is going to be my reading time 👌🏼
🧑🎄Your sweater looks lovely on you. I remember wanting a wrinkles dog so badly when I was younger. My boyfriend at the time tried to win me one from the fair sadly he lost all his money trying lol.
Thank you! I am really loving this style of sweater and now I want more 😂!
Omg, that’s so funny! I love it 👌🏼

Yay! Thank you ❤️

I’ll be back later! I had to jump on to say this is the CUTEST thumbnail!!!
Haha! I am SO behind on your videos, but I am thinking of you missing your girl ❤️
New subscriber excited to support you ❤❤ your home and family is so sweet. Where do you get your wigs? Beautiful
Thank you so much!
Another lovely compliment on my hair, but it’s not a wig, just my hair 😉❤️

🎅🏼🤶🏼 My husband gave me a Canon rebel camera one of our first Christmas together
Oh that is so sweet, and a great camera too!
🎅🤶
Thank you!
Ohmygosh, puppers at the end of the video.🥰
Oh wow! That is so impressive! I can sort of sew, but I haven’t done it for years. It’s wild the things people were capable of making like no big deal!
Haha! She’s so cute and her favourite thing in the world is digging into the warm pile of laundry 😊
