I just found this, and you saved the life of my MK3.
I was going to dump it as a useless piece of junk outside of it's own software, as it seemed extremely troublesome to set-up as a simple controller.
Various videos have been watched, and all of them had me going into pages and pages of 'Maschine', which just didn't seem correct.
YOU, man, YOU just created the simple setup I was needing, so I could use it like my old Roland R8 (before it died) and trigger Battery and GA properly (and save the poor keys on my S88)

@@DomSigalas :) My only wish is that when a GA pattern is played back via Cubase, that the Maschine pads would also trigger the colors as they would when you physically hit them. I'm doing a video of a cover track soon (Genesis Tonight Tonight Tonight) and I wanted the pads to trigger the colors via MIDI as an effect for the video. I guess I'll have to go back to the Maschine 2 software to do that.....which is a shame because I love using GA so much more than the Maschine 2 software. Anyways, thanks again for all the great tutorial videos. I've been using Cubase since the late 80's, back when I used it on the Atari STe, but am amazed how much I still keep learning from great channels, such as yours. Keep up the good work! :)

The following setup works great in cubase and is fairly simple to setup.
Load instrument: machine.
In machine software set maschine midi out to host. (Located at sound - click knob icon for midi options)
Now load another instrument in cubase: eg Battery 4 or any other instrument you want to play.
In cubase set input of that instrument to :maschine midi out.
Now machine instrument can play the other instruments within cubase without going into midi controller mode.
So now you still have maschines arps, scales, chord and various maschine functionality too!

Hey I was in ur shoes a while back! I found the following setup works great in cubase and is fairly simple.

Im would be interested to see how you use Maschine in your production. I am trying to figure out how to use Maschine in Cubase but it seem like it takes a few steps to control Maschine with midi. Wish integration was better.

Dom, thanks so much! This video really cleared how to set up Maschine as a midi-controller as it isn't covered well in the manual. One thing I missed though: How to save the cc-assignments in the software - not in controller edit. I connected my Maschine + to Battery 4 and assigned e.g. one of the knob controllers to the reverb amount. But every time I change the drum kit I have to manually reassign the cc-controllers as there seems to be no way to save these on a global level. Any thoughts here? Cheers and keep it up!

The only problem that I have with Groove agent + maschine is that the C2 for example (which is on the top) is on the first 16 pads, but when you change to the next set, the C2 is again on the bottom. So it's not a whole set change, I don't know why.

Thank you for everything. i just got Maschine 3 could you do a video of making Maschine work while you are in Cubase. when i use groove agent in cubase and i hit a pad not only does it play that assigned snare HI hat etc but it also messes around with other functions in Cubase. it will open my EQ or switch tracks on me. thank you

I just bought a used Machine MK2 after I saw your video on using it with Groove Agent that I use. Your Template is set as .ncm3 and is not recognized in the Controller Editor. Can you do a save as ..ncm2 so I can load your template? It would save me hours of work. Thankyou for all your great Videos. I still use my CC121 that I bought 10 yrs ago and still use today.

I've beewn folowing your videos for quite a long time
I did upgrade my CUBASE among other things
recently I bought MASCHINE mk3 to replace the old mk1 and it has much better features like working in scale and building drum parts
but
I want to work on CUBASE and enjoy the benefits of working on MASCHINE
there are many videos how to connect MASCHINE to cubase but they dont work if you miss one single sequence of its procedure and most videos say diferent things which are opposite to other ones so i'ts a mess

Hey Dom, great video. I’ve got a question for you. I tried doing this on an app called Koala Sampler. On MacOS. Not iOS, because my maschine won’t stay lit on iOS.. Anyhow, when mapping rhe pads on the hardware to the pads on the sampler, 4 first notes of bank B overlap with the last 4 notes of bank A. Is there an quick and easy way to map these without having to manually edit them individually?
Please forgive my ignorance. I’ve asked elsewhere but didn’t get far and you know your ishhhh. So if you k ow of a better way, I’d greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Hi Dom, thanks for the video it helped remind me how this is done. I have a maschine studio I had set up for cubase pro 10. Id like to control the drum pad parameters but the learn function did not seem to follow each pad. If the kick is highlighted for example the snare volume is also changed where if i do it with the mouse i can mix them independently. Not sure what i did wrong but it doesn’t make much sense to me. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

I have the Maschine Mikro MK3 which is fine for me but has one big downside, I have to press two buttons to switch groups and didn't find a way to use just one button.
I think as soon as I get more experienced with finger drumming I will switch to launchpad pro
I have had maschine mk3 for ages and to this date, not used itThis now will give me a reason to get to grips with it as i will try to use it with groove agent se? Question though is.......i have obtained the link in order to get the template but it won't let me open it? How do i deal with it in order to install the template so that i can use it? Hi Dom, thanks for all you do! I was wondering if it's possible to find the file path for a sample loaded into groove agent? For examples, I have old mixes that I'm not sure where I got my samples from. Would be cool to alt+click on the groove agent square and see the file path. I have some samples loaded that I can't remember where I got them from. Trying to stay organized. thx bro!
After assigning cc learns , don’t you then have to save the groove agent kit as a custom patch. Or does groove agent cc learns, just persist in other projects?

Hi Dom, I have a Simmons drum kit and want to be able through the midi cable to trigger Cubase groove agent so each pad has it's own audio track, so I can record and edit each drum track separately track for the Kick, snare, tom, and so on, so I can record by playing the drums live, another words like when I am micing the acoustic drums, can this be done?

I have Maschine 3. I've loaded your template it all works for the most part. When I load Groove Agent 5 5.0.50.255 and use your template to control "Perform
" for some reason only CC 20 , CC22 and CC25 work when I am in trigger source controllers. In trigger source Keys no problem with that. I obviously checked to make sure with the editor the CC23- 24 and CC26-27 set up correctly. Basically only Perform 1,2,6 are the only ones I could make function Any ideas?
Can you actually load those user controller templates on the maschine to use it with a hardware synth (without the computer) ?? As if I was to use the NI Mascine mkIII with my Korg Kronos wich only have a built in pad "screen" wich is practically pretty unusable in a live situation
I'm actually having trouble getting my midi pad controller to coincide with my kits, for example, in my hip hop hits, i can't access the sub bass..
after 1 year to build the template (lol) jk, now would be great to see a tutorial so we can use maschine as a controller but into the DAW ( Cubase) and also for maschne mikro not just for the big brother.
Should work the same - The only thing the Mk3 has that Mikro doesn't is the screens.
Hi Dom, amazing work as always - unfortunately I started making a remote of my own prior to seeing this video :(. Nonetheless, I still have the same two issues i had on day 1 with both your template and mine which are:
1 - Happy to start on note C1 but Cubase (and Steinberg in general) generally uses a continuous numbering system usually starting at E-2 which in this case, results in note C1 being the first on Pad Page C. Your template and lots of others I see adopt starting all groups of 16 pads on a C* key of some kind which then results in repeated notes on the top row and the bottom row of the next page….. Why do people do this out of interest? Won’t those trigger the same sample and if done this way you’re not making use of 4 pads on each page? I need every pad I can get and it’s something I’ve just never understood. If a number is a day is a day, why do people seem to want to start on a C note all the time? If you play chords on pads this also kind of messes with everything and all the existing presents I’ve seen and used for GA5 don’t allow for this meaning every time I load up a patch, I’ll have problems will I not? Is there a way to automatically or very quickly reassign the note numbers on either the controller editor, Maschine or Cubase that I don’t know of?
2 - I cannot control GA5 when inside Cubase in any meaningful way as the focus seems to be on Cubase. Ie the key commands designated for GA5 (Options->key commands) work great on a PC keyboard but I can’t get it to work on a controller of any kind apart from the quick controls. For example, swapping between instrument and pattern mode is the ‘e’ key which is also open channel settings in Cubase and that’s what it does, page up and page down cycles through the pattern banks and it works fine in standalone or with a keyboard but I have no luck with a controller when using inside Cubase. Does anyone else have this issue?
Lastly, a good tip for anyone out there who is running out of pads with regards to repeaters is to assign a blank sample to a pad (I use the top right) and call it mute or silence and colour it. These days I hold down sometimes almost 3 pads pretty much constantly and use that silence pad to mute the notes I don’t want to hear rather than the other way around. Saves me almost 6 pads in some cases.
1 - I couldn't find a quicker way to assign, and just had to change the assignments of the pads on the Controller Editor so that there was no doubling of pads....takes a while, and colour coding for every kit you like takes forever.
2- I noticed that the 'Patterns' and 'Instruments' on GA are designated to dfnt keys way lower on the keyboard, about 2 octaves, (like G#-1, etc, instead of up around C1).
(I only use within Cubase) Creating the corresponding patterns on Bank A or Bank B (via Controller Editor) really makes it easy to just play the patterns when wanted, then use Bank C/D/E..... for single hits....there's no need to then switch the device between modes from/to patterns/instruments

I would have imagined that pre-fader would be the most popular choice; I don't understand why it isn't the default when you activate a send...?
Right-click>set to Pre-fader :) you can set this in the Preferences ;)

There is no relevant manual for the controller editor with mk3 maschines. If we want to make most out of groove agent with maschine, we need to have a dedicated controller template for each GA instrument. with the mikro mk3 controller there is no way to switch templates right with the controller
i just got Maschine from a friend. having a hard time using it. witch is the reason that my friend gave up on it and gave it to me. i use Cubase 11 and i love it. was very excited to start using Maschine MK2 But very disappointed at how difficult just installing it. Dom love all your videos very helpful. Question is where do i find the Maschine VST instrument in Cubase? that is my dilemma at the moment. i did down load your template , unfourtitly i have know idea how to get it in the controller.
