Great reaction! I don't think you give yourself enough credit; you picked up a lot of details far more quickly than a lot of reactors. I've only seen the second one and can confirm it's a worthy sequel (someone spoiled film 3 for me, which kind of put me off following up on the franchise). I've heard the series gets progressively more gory. "A gory soap opera" is how someone described it to me. Some of the editing has always struck me as cheesy (the rapid editing during the car chase scene in particular) but considering this movie was made on the cheap by a couple of college kids as essentially their first film, it's something remarkable. And any criticisms aside, that ending hits HARD.
Detective Tapp's death really bums me out, because he may have been mentally unstable from the trauma of losing his partner, but when crap hit the fan, he immediately jumped in to protect Laurence's family. That's a good cop and human, and it always sucks to see good people punished trying to do the right thing.

I'd say the first 3 are must watches. It's obvious this was originally meant to be a trilogy. It bugs the shii out of me that so many people ignore the 3rd movie.

Well, last attempt then! _Hello... Ryan... I want to play a game..._ What a choice! I had another film planned to watch that night, but dropped it in favor of this reaction, obviously. Loved how invested and spooked you turned out to be, ha! And that ''Aaah, yes, man vs pipe'' had me rolling with laughter, haha!
The _Saw_ franchise is my favorite from the twisted minds of James Wan (director) and Leigh Whannell (Adam's actor), one of the best from the 00s! And despite the amount of body horror, just like you said, the film is equally a clever mystery with an enticing story, oppressive setting and plenty of twists and layers to go around. I would definitely suggest you with the next two films at least (which Wan and Whannell were involved with). And if you wish to see their sort of pilot project for the producers, search for _Saw 0.5_ (I tried linking it, so maybe that is why my original comment wasn't visible? It does involve some quite graphic gore after all, hm.).
Righto, recommendations! I think I suggested it before, but _Saw_ does have some similarities with an earlier film, _Cube_ so check it out if you manage. Wan and Whannell also made other successful horror franchises with _Insidious_ and _The Conjuring_ films, but since they have embarked on solo projects, I honestly prefer Whannell's style of directing more (ngl, he also aged fine! woohoo!), like 2018 _Upgrade_ and 2020 _Invisible Man_ , and I'm positive you'll like those as well. And you must, *must* watch Cary Elwes (Lawrence's actor) in _The Princess Bride_ , convince Nay for that one, she'll love it too! ✌

Ahhh I appreciate you taking the time to rewrite this! I've no idea what happened to the first one! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! This movie really blew my mind haha, I really wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did, so the next two are on the list for sure!!! It really kept me guessing and so I had a great time! Ooooh some great recommendations here, I appreciate the way you've split them up as well! Thank you as always for such a great comment! 😁

The rest of the movies in the series do up the gore factor as they go on, but there's also a story thread throughout all 10 movies & every movie is another "piece of the puzzle". A bit more gets revealed with each entry. I hope you do continue on this journey. Some say they get a bit silly as they go on, but honestly, I enjoy them. PLUS, James & Leigh are Aussies. #AustraliaRepresent

Hear, hear! Seconded! Not Australian, but just recently I re-watched both _Wolf Creek_ and _Lake Mungo_ ! Very different films but both equally great examples of Australian horror genre output! (And not to forget the neighboring Kiwi cinema - _Black Sheep_ and _Housebound_ are as hilarious as they are scary!) ✌

I have absolutely no fear when it comes to suspense or bad guys. I am scared when it comes to supernatural horror (like ghosts and demons) but can do it, even if it keeps me up later. I CANNOT do body horror. I watched the first Saw years ago since it's such an iconic classic but I can't even watch reactions to Saw II through a million.
I'd put Saw in the same category as Paranormal Activity, Terrifier, and Halloween - low budget horror movies that blew up and spawned a whole franchise with much higher budgets. Saw had a $1 million budget which makes it higher than most of those other ones but is still super low. While I think they did a good job considering, you can definitely feel how small the budget is and that it's James Wan's first feature film. I found it to be a little underwhelming due to the hype being so high. But the twist at the end is super good and it's not hard to see how such a simple yet innovative premise could capture the public fascination and prompt sequels.

I can completely understand not wanting to watch body horror! 😅 And you are so right when you take a second to think about the sets and what we actually see, you can feel it has a budget restriction, however I really enjoyed the story of this, and they used the budget where it counts! That twist though! 🤯 Definitely understandable how this got attention enough for sequels!

@@SofaSloths Probobly had to do with the budget of the movie, with was very low.. That's why the majorty of it is in the one room. It made a lot of money and a lot of movies followed, with some iconic traps!
