- The Class 442 "Wessex" known on the Gatwick Express are finally in Train Simulator 2015. I am quite excited for this one and in the video we do a nice Return journey from London Victoria and I give my first initial impression and thoughts of this train. Enjoy!

Dovetail really do charge Top end prices. If we're to pay those I really expect a good quality and detailed train with nice sounds. No inconsistency...
That passenger view is in the same type of view as the Brake Cars, but be a big bug looking inside in that view
At Gatwick Airport:; Platform 1 for the 9:30 Gatwick Express service to Clapham Junction calling at East Croydon and Clapham Junction. This train is formed of 10 coaches. A trolley service with drinks and light refreshments is available on this train. Platform 1 for the 9:30 Gatwick Express service to Clapham Junction.
Class 442s actually used recycled running gear from the Class 432 4-REP units, so mechanically they date back to 1966, and have a lot in common with the 4-CIG/4-VEP units. A 4-CIG soundset would probably be quite accurate for them in terms of the motor and air compressor sounds. I totally agree with you on TS though, the sounds are a major weak point of the game, and always have been. Another gripe I have is the lack of sound effects at stations - no announcements, no passenger sounds, nothing. The stations are completely devoid of any atmosphere whateoever, which I think really damages the overall immersion factor of the game.
Kenneth Gibbs its still the gatwick express but they changed it just to express on the train to not confuse people when these trains are used as just southern express trains to brighton etc

Armstrong Powerhouse already have the sounds for the class 442 just in case anyway LOL! About a year ago think? But yea, expect a sound pack for the class 442 this year and nice vid :)

Felix Train I specifically said it was the fastest 3rd rail EMU, not just EMU and that is what DTG said as well? (Its legitimate hype)
The critical points you bring up about this train is why I pretty much gave up on TS. For the price they charge, it wasn't worth it to me to continue buying their products. They have some great modeled trains, but as far as systems and or operating them, you could pretty much drop in any cab and it'll all seem the same.
There has to be a point that goes beyond "this train is in the game, so I'm getting it" knowing that it's going to be the same recycled sounds and limited to no functionality inside the cab. It's great that AP make up for Dovetail's shortcomings, but that's just added costs for something that I feel should be included.
I don't know. Everyone has their own definition of what value is, but I just decided to stop the bleeding. I check back every now and again to see if things have improved. It's the best looking train game out now, but I'm still hoping for something that is a little closer to an actual train sim.

These are literally converted mark 3 coaches with a fancy cab. Also in train age, east anglia gets all the stuff from the West Cost Main Line

Having watched your review, I will now type mine:
This train has been a long time in coming. And now it's out, I don't know what to say; although I will type quite a lot.
Sounds:
Dovetail Games has always had a problem making good sounds for trains. This is why people like Armstrong Powerhouse survive; they provide good quality stuff to cover over the **** that DTG churn out. This train is no exception. With it's 455 default sounds and immediate cut off during coasting, I can't say anything good about the sounds. Apart from the fact that this train has sounds. Which is more than can be said for the 303. I was told that the 455 sounds were "WIP sounds" which either means they were lying or this is an expensive beta. That will never be fixed. Except by giving £5 to people whose job it is to clear up the mess left by DTG.
Model:
The model is very good. While it does look like the train has just come out of the depot, I can't really fault the model. Nice looking train. Good job DTG!
Interior:
The train is based in 2015, when 442's are with Gatwick Express. What appears to have happened is that the interior people are in a time warp and so still think it is 2005 and so have given the train a South West Trains interior. Really? Did anyone at DTG say: "Just one thing: why have you given this train a SWT interior?" Sometimes I don't get DTG and this is one of them. Why?
Cab:
The throttle is from the 319.
The reverser is from the 319.
Although a signal bell sounds, you can't reply to it as there is no option to do so. Even the signal button in cab is disabled.
Do you get the idea?
Oh, and there is bird poo on the side window. Which can only be seen from the in-cab view, not from anywhere else.
To sum up: While the train looks amazing, everything else about it is a huge let down. Buy it on sale and then get the sound pack from AP when they release it.

Note: This is NOT the worlds fastest EMU. This is the worlds fastest 3rd rail EMU. This train is not faster than the TGV or Class 390 or Class 387 or Class 373 etc. What this shows is that DTG like to hype up their ***** products even more by lying to us.
The thing is with the 380s is that they're in Central Scotland, not the North of England. Here in Scotland, we get trains specifically built for Scotland, rather than reusing trains from the South.
This type of thing of poor quality in Train Sim is exactly why I'm gutted that FSX did not get handed to the Euro Truck Sim creators or any other, instead Dovetail are in charge of modernising FSX... its doomed! I actually wanted to believe the 442 would be done justice...
Qwerty try going into passenger view and holding down ctrl and use the arrow left or right keys and it should take you to the passenger view. Don't quote me on that.
The reason the sounds of the doors dont always align with the animation is because with some trains, the doors close at such a rate where AI trains will drive off with the doors still closing, so the closing animation has to be sped up to avoid this. So without a complete change in the TS dispatcher, I dont think its possible to get it perfect.
Moleman978 well they should make it independent for ai trains and for the actual train a player drives, again bringing onto my point some are in sync some are not why can't everything be equal. #prayfornextgen

to change the passenger view use Ctrl+Arrow Key and you should be able to change
Another thing I noticed is that the covers on the loose wires at the front of the 442, there is no variation to play a version without it visible or with it. Its not that big of an issue but it would have been cool, as I preferred the look of the front in the days where the wires were covered.

Youre so right about quality control, DTG must think their customers are idiots. They release a lovely screenshot and then take the money. Look at things like the passenger view, thats just laughable and the center coach has all of its equipment under it hanging in mid air with no support!! Also, this coming with only the Gatwick paint job is lazy and short sighted, surely they'd sell alot more to people who have the PDL if it has the SWT oe NSE livery? Maybe that'll be another £12 like the FCC377 you mentioned!

(Qwerty Afro) I don't actually know anything about the class 377 fcc livery truthfully. But if I were to guess it probably is because the class 377 came with the London to Brighton line therefore it isn't stand alone so if you don't have the ltb line then you can still get it. Or day light robbery!
F1 Stobartdude still it should be way cheaper as the SN 377 coming with the BML for a cheaper price if you broke down the routes prices so why should the exact train just with a different livery with no other further work done to it be charged as a fully new individual train? I think it should have been like £2.99 like there attempted marketplace livery products

This train is full of bug lets say that. But the scenarios seem to cause even more bug which show no beta testing time/effort went into this. The passenger view is still there. In fact what you saw when pressing 5 was the passenger view. This train can't with two passenger views and you can switch between the window hanging view and the actual inside view by pressing CTRL+right arrow key/left arrow key.

I my personal opinion, they don't. There were many bugs that I pointed out during the steam and on a couple Matts streams. All I was told is; "remember this is WIP and your feedback is appreciated". Did you also spot that the brake gauge (bc side) displays the opposite to what the brakes are actually on?
From the information I have gathered I think the problem with DTG is time. Unlike other DEVs like AP, JT, SCS etc. DTG seem to set deadlines on DLC. That would explain why there's a release every Thursday. The deadlines set are obviously too hard for the staff to meet and therefore the DLC is released unfinished.
You know another thing; DTG actually for their facts completely wrong about the history of the 442 and the Gatwick Express. Makes you wonder how much care goes into DLC these days. :/
Horn is copied from 455 and other trains. You can tell because hi tone has the squeak.

Still don't get why Gatwick express got rid of the 458/460 and retained the older 442
tomtoon2014 the 460s were very unreliable and weren't maintained well compared to now with SWT with the 458s. The 442s were always good old workhorse that were in storage at the time and were a good substitute as they wanted to get rid of the 460s
Oh right make sense now. Not long until 387's are on the Gatwick express :)

Yes, they have now been transferred to SWT and are being re-built as Class 458s. They were Class 460s

They got removed when the livery changed. But you mean the covers at the front. The cables never really got used.

DOOMILES 455s are basically the templates for EMU sounds.

DOOMILES It's funny because the 455 sounds were actually quite good, just for the 455's, it's just the reusing of the sounds endlessly since then that's ruined it. :(

Joe Ross I think there is a seaside scenario, but there will be many more better user made scenarios on the steam workshop to download for free :)

Yeah this unit when its in 10 car formation has the camera set wrong for passenger view, I have posted the problem on railsimulator.com's fb page. It works fine on the 5 car formation

Did you know that the bogies and motors are off class 423's. That's why it sounds like the 4VEP's.

First time loading the train the same thing happened to me with the passenger view. After that I got the normal view of inside the train and the view of outside the 3rd coach.

Well the middle carriage is closer to you than the back carriagge, so it makes sense.
superalbs use Ctrl+Arrow Key
The passenger view is there. Try using the arrows to get it back once in the passenger view

I think the route info and facebook box take up too much space, kinda ruins the footage.
You need to look at the boxes under the middle carriage, that's the problem.
To get passenger view, go to passenger view as you normally would, then change carriage. (As you would as if changing cabs.)
If you turn off the HUD then press 'F5' you can see the control values without the hud.
Class 159 NSE is a 158 reskin for just £11.99!
I would take a Class 319 over a Class 387 anytime! Class 387s have seats harder than a rock. Eugh!

Qwerty Afro Any particular reason? I find them really comfortable, and the sound is incredible, I suppose for an average person it's a bit too loud for comfort? But other than that there's not really any other train I prefer travelling on. :)
deafyboy86 I'm with you there. Such a shame a train with character is being replaced by an electrostar, the trains with as much character as an overboiled potato.
Felix Train I completely agree, the Electrostars are fine don't get me wrong, but they just aren't lively at all and don't give you anywhere as much the same sensation of speed that a 319 at full chat does. I'll greatly miss them when they're all in the hands of Northern.

Luke Amarn The 442's were worse trains to do the Gatwick Express job than 460's. Therefore British railway logic kicked in so the trains were changed (for some bizarre reason). 442's should still do the job down to Weymouth, 444's should do the Portsmouth Direct Line and 450;s should fill in the gaps the 458/5' services.
Felix Train south west trains didn't want them anymore, the 460's were very unreliable and poorly maintained trains which resulted them needing to be replaced quite shortly into there lifespan luckily SWT acquired them re modernised them to work with 458s. If the 460s didn't need replacing I do not see why not SWT using them as extra stock
