I really like the analogy with the person who doesn’t want to leave prison. It’s been a while since I watched Edgerunners but it always seemed that although Lucy dreamed about going to the moon, she wasn’t actively pursuing it. David was the one who was working tirelessly for her to be able to achieve her dream. It makes me kind of rethink how I thought about the ending. Even though Lucy ends up on the moon without David, her life is probably much better than when she was still living in night city. Breaking away from the system can be good but you always have to leave people behind. It’s a wonderful point.
it would never be better, simply because she is now alone... one of, if not the most, beautiful thing in Edgerunner was David and Lucy falling in love, being together they brought life into each other, and the reason why it fall apart was because David starts to get disconnected from reality due to numbers of things, so Lucy left trying to save David, then the whole disaster happened... For Lucy, David died for her, and now she is on the moon alone, you seriously think that would be a "better" life for her?
Bittersweet is one of the hardest emotions to evoke. Each tear shed because of a story, is a badge of honor for the storyteller. And yes, Edgerunners made me shed a tear or two.
I believe contrast is ultra important when finding or creating (powerful) meaning and emphasis (special importance) in anything. Specificity is another crucial element. The complete opposite is a one-note stew of generic vagaries with a great lack of weight and perspective.
The talk you guys had about hope and people around you really hit a certain part of my brain and i thought about so many of my old high school friends giving each other hope that in the end it will be fine.
I think you two would love the show Ted Lasso. "Be curious, not judgmental" is essentially the core of the show, and a great therapist character starts showing up in season two. It's three seasons long and actually complete. I'm not all that into football/soccer, but it was really easy for me to like and get engaged with the characters and story and grow to care about them winning and losing matches (among other things; it's about relationships and communication in many ways, not just to do with sport). I cannot recommend it enough.
Randomly got you guys on my feed a week ago. Been loving the content, such a perfect mix of film/storytelling and psychology. Feels like this podcast was made just for me. Cheers!
Same here! I suddenly got recommended the character writing episode and I greatly appreciate the depths they go to in understanding the titular themes! As an editor and mograph artist, they really get me in a great mood to work more on my craft
In terms of crying to episode ratio Cyberpunk Edgerunners ties with Your Lie in April for me. I think the hardest/longest I ever cried from a show was when the going merry died. On sadness, a potential topic/starting point for a future episode is Yuji from JJK and what it means to be a main character/the difference between the hero (Yuji) and the villain (Mahito)
Did I mention that I love Edgerunners and really appreciate how you two made me more aware of some of the less tangible things it's doing so brilliantly and sublimely.
Seeing psychology being discussed so in-depth with filmmaking put into it as well simply tickles my brain so much. Frame of mind is such a great, fitting name for a niche I haven't seen fulfilled yet. Love your conversations, the depths they go to, and how contrast adds nuance and beauty not just to stories, but to life itself. Can't wait to watch/listen to more while editing later!
I absolutely loved this show and hated the ending (in a good way) but I also never liked David and Lucy's relationship because I felt like it was super toxic so, when he died I wasn't upset for them but for him. In a way, I think the whole show from episode 1 is just tragedy, even in the happy fun moments it's still a gang of people who live a "terrible" life. So, when it ended I was more upset at how they never had a chance at a "good" life - Lucy going to the moon doesn't mean all her problems are gone just a bit of escapism.
When I first watched your channel a few days ago, you guys had 68 subs - monkey brain part of me just had to chuckle whenn I added myself - and now .. that´s great, well deserved. This was again very stimulating and sympathic conversation. After Edgerunners today, Arcane comes to directly to mind as a great candidate for you two to tackle. Anyway, keep it up, looking forward for the next.
Thank you! Congrats on being in the first 100 😊 Absolutely, Arcane has so many similarities in terms of how the story feels well told. ESPECIALLY one scene we might highlight…
This is easily some of the best analytical and story talk content I've ever seen. Thank you for providing me with insights to help think about things I was already in process of figuring out more deeply and from other angles (as well as new nuggets to chew on). Would love to see you cover Princess Mononoke.
found this and enjoying so far, one main annoyance is the damn focus is right on your shoes and faces are out of focus, other than that i hope you guys get more traction, good conversations
Haha, yeah that one was a dumb technical mistake, I focused the camera on Curtis (you can see he's sharper in the video) and then when I sat down didn't realize I was further away from the Camera than he was. Felt pretty silly when I watched the footage back but glad it didn't completely detract from the conversation 😄🙏
Edgerunners, like Akudama Drive, is one of those stories that is amazing but not enjoyable to watch lol. I hate tragedy and all that sad shit. I need some hope. Phenomenal shows tho.
Great episode guys. Can we get an Arcane talk as well? Cyberpunk was easier to digest while I found Arcane had many more complex characters to break down that thinking back on it is harder to voice my thoughts and I'd love your perspectives.
We absolutely want to do an Arcane episode in the future. That show was structured meticulously with some wonderfully nuanced characters. It’s near the top of a very, very long list of video ideas 😅
only one thousand subs? damn. cyberpunk has left a mark on me like no other piece of media has, ever, and ive been trying to reach that same point again to no avail. so, instead, i want to know why, i want to know what it did right to get under my skin like it did, and you guys did a fantastic job. i love the mix of psychology and filmmaking is such a great vessel to analyse a story like edgerunners. i’d love for you to do a video on your lie in april, its another bittersweet story that also really left a mark on me. great work you guys, i thoroughly enjoyed this. well done
Thanks so much! 🙏 glad to know there’s other people who this show impacted as much as us! There’s a few shows like You Lie in April, A Silent Voice, and Violet Evergarden that we will probably look at in the future, I’m just not sure we’re ready to cry THAT much yet 😭
Please watch the kdrama My Mister and talk about it. As an MFT student it touches on the human condition perfectly. The author of the Alchemist also called it a masterpiece
Please do! The human emotion component and how it portrays the mundanity of life is so beautiful. I would love to hear your perspectives on it as a therapist and film maker
So funny story, i have the exact same full name as main character and when he dead at the end, all my friends were talking about how their gonna miss me and im like wtf im here 😂
Stories with either sad or bitter-sweet endings are not something i like. it's depressing. sure it could be better story-wise and leave an impact, but it's not fun experience. maybe once in a while, but not always.
Dropped this the minute I heard the show was forcing a tragic ending. Sad endings are for privileged people living in a sanitized world where there are so few threats to their well-being that they need terrible fiction to feel sad. What a fucking waste of an opportunity to make a good cyberpunk show
"Nourishment of the soul" ....Do you mean righteousness? LMAO.... I get nourishment to the soul from GOD! like everyone else, not a movie 🤣 edit:( common definition, Nihilistic- is the rejection of 'religion' or 'Morality' to believe life is meaningless.)
I really like the analogy with the person who doesn’t want to leave prison.

Incredibly insightful, yeah heartbreakingly true though. Well put 👏🏻

🥲👍
“What was their episode one?”
What a simple but fantastic way of explaining why context matters when understanding someone.
"Almost everything can be boiled down to contrast" ....My spine tingled, so true. Like when someone uses "Juxtapose" 💓
Great word that we need to start using more in these conversations! ☀️
I believe contrast is ultra important when finding or creating (powerful) meaning and emphasis (special importance) in anything.
Specificity is another crucial element. The complete opposite is a one-note stew of generic vagaries with a great lack of weight and perspective.
Man the light and the whole scenario in general is so well made, the conversation flow and insights are also so good im loving this podcast so much
Wow! Thanks so much! 🙏 Stoked you liked it and can't wait to release the next one!
I love how these bittersweet endings can make us look to the whole journey differently.
Be it the fictional journey in the story, or your own.
💯
Like guts is one of my favorite characters but the story is so tragic
💯😭
The end of the Golden Age Arc is so masterfully traumatic.
I would love to see this sort of conversation on more show please.
Absolutely! That’s what we’re here to do 😁
The talk you guys had about hope and people around you really hit a certain part of my brain and i thought about so many of my old high school friends giving each other hope that in the end it will be fine.
It’s amazing how if we have each other’s backs, most situations - even the really difficult challenges - will turn out ok. 👍

been months since i seen the show and just the clip of the ending they showed has got me so sad.
🥹😭
Seeing psychology being discussed so in-depth with filmmaking put into it as well simply tickles my brain so much.

Definitely not a happily ever after, but sounds like, like us, you appreciated a different flavour of emotion that the show brings up in us ❤️

Thank you so much! That is insanely encouraging to hear 😄 Princess Mononoke would be a great film to break down, adding it to the list
@@FrameOfMindBros Awesome!

Wow! Props for the dedication! 😱👏
@@FrameOfMindBros hey good luck with the channel! I shall be seated for every video

Will you do an episode where you talk more about different kinds of relationships in stories?
100%! Our newest videos is actually about fatherhood in stories 😁 And plenty more after that 💁🏼♂️ hope you enjoy it!
yeah, bring me that ARCANE !

Bittersweet stories definitely aren’t as palatable or easy to consume as happy endings, for sure.
I love this show. Perfection.
