Thanks for your videos! So much inspiration from those. Messiaen theoretical approach is solid! I encourage you to search ( if it possible to do this in English) anything about work of Ukrainian musicologist Boleslav Yavorsky. His ideas was totally unique for his time, for example modes of limited transpositions was described from another angle, and it was in circa 1903.

I also see many "problems" in your modes and scales explanation... in therms of modes you are 100 percent right but this explanation not full enough to describe such a complex thing with many years of different approaches (Zarlino, Rameau, Riemann). And for scale explanation there is even more questions... please dont read this as critique, because you are wonderful and your channel for me is a pure joy! But maybe "scale divides the octave" is not really clear.. maybe word octave is not really clear...its not really easy question. But...Thank you once more!

THank you for your thoughtful response. I agree, in this video I quickly went over modes and scales because I have tried to go in detail in earlier videos. WE could probably spend the rest of our lives enjoyably discussing scale and mode over history and the globe!. I see an article about Yavorsky in this collection and look forward to learning more about his work. archive.org/details/russiantheoretic0000unse/page/n7/mode/2up
