Lyrics:
I cannot say that I know you well
But you can't lie to me with all these books that you sell
I'm not trying to follow you to the end of the world
I'm just trying to leave something behind
Words have come from men and mouths
Oh, but I can't help thinking that I have heard the wrong crowd
When all the water is gone my job will be too
So I'm trying to leave something behind
money is free but love costs more than our bread
And the ceiling is hard to reach
Oh, the future ahead is broken and red
And I'm trying to leave something behind
This whole world is a foreign land
We swallow the moon, but we do not know our own hand
we're running with the case, but we ain't got the gold
Yet we're trying to leave something behind
My friends, I believe we are at the wrong fight
And I can not read what I did not write
I've been to his house, but the master is gone
And I'm trying to leave something behind
Now there is a beast who has taken my brain
You can put me to bed, but you can't feel my pain
When the machine has taken the soul from the man
It's time to leave something behind
money is free but love costs more than our bread
And the ceiling is hard to reach
the future ahead is already dead
Now it's time to leave something behind
I've got this feeling that I'm still at the shore
And pockets don't know what it means to be poor
I can get through the wall if you give me a door
So I can leave something behind
wisdom is lost in the trees somewhere
you're not gonna find it in some mental gray hair
It's locked up from those who hurry ahead
And it's time to leave something behind
money is free but love costs more than our bread
And the ceiling is hard to reach
When my son is a man, he will know what I meant
When I was just trying to leave something behind
And I'm trying to leave something behind

Sometimes you hear a song you wish was a bit longer.
Think we finally got one .
Awesome.
"Pockets don't know what it means to be poor" that is some Walt Whitman level stuff.
Mr. Rowe, you have left something behind! thank You Good Sir!
After hearing this at the end of “The Accountant” movie, I’ve been playing this song in the car and on my guitar. I’m still quite ❤confused about the seemingly deep meaning of the song, but I think it’s fantastic. Great voice and haunting lyrics….. I’m now listening to more of Sean’s work. Well done Sir….. 👏👏
Thanks for listening
I love this beautiful and unsettling song that so precisely captures the individual and collective fears and hopes of so many just now. Sean’s fearless, gentle, excellent performance feels like commiseration with an old friend at the end of a tough day.
aw thanks Mary! ❤️
Great song 👌
Beautiful!..."we swallow the moon but we don't know our own hand" man this guy can write!
One of the best songs ever written. Come back to it every year and play it on repeat. Just pure jealousy as a songwriter
Cathal, thank you for this!
@@seanrowemusic from another songwriter, pure jealously, and Much Respect, you have lived alot of your songs that is obvious
I can't but think that this man has been in some dark places. This is a song for your soul. Mr. Rowe this is a Masterpiece .Thank You!
Goosebumps to hear this live version 😍 oh damn! 🔥 If only more people supported real talent over 10 seconds reels.
Snehal, thank you! that means a lot!
Couldn't agree more. This is as raw as it gets. Simply amazing
These lyrics appear to be describing a reflection on life's priorities and the desire to leave a lasting legacy. The songwriter acknowledges that they may not know the person well, but they perceive a lack of authenticity or honesty in their actions ("you can't lie to me with all these books that you sell"). The songwriter expresses a reluctance to blindly follow someone or be caught up in worldly pursuits, instead desiring to leave something meaningful behind.
The lyrics touch upon the idea that words can come from both wise and foolish individuals, and it can be challenging to discern the truth amidst different voices ("but I can't help thinking that I have heard the wrong crowd"). The mention of water running out and the impending loss of the songwriter's job suggests a sense of urgency and the need to make a lasting impact before it's too late.
The song emphasizes the contrast between the value of money and love, highlighting that love is more precious than material possessions. The reference to a broken and red future implies a world in turmoil or conflict, further emphasizing the songwriter's desire to make a positive difference.
The lyrics convey a sense of detachment from the world, with the songwriter feeling like a stranger in a foreign land. The line "we swallow the moon, but we do not know our own hand" suggests a disconnect between humanity's accomplishments and its understanding of itself. Despite this, the songwriter acknowledges the pursuit of a goal ("we're running with the case") even if the desired outcome is not yet attained.
There is a recognition that the world is changing, and the songwriter feels compelled to resist the negative impact of technology or machinery on human experiences ("when the machine has taken the soul from the man"). The song urges the listener to leave something meaningful behind, suggesting that there is more to life than material wealth.
The lyrics express a desire for wisdom and a frustration with society's focus on external appearances and superficial markers of age ("wisdom is lost in the trees somewhere... not gonna find it in some mental gray hair"). The songwriter contemplates their own mortality and hopes that their son will understand the deeper meaning behind their actions when he becomes a man.
Overall, the song seems to be a reflection on the importance of love, authenticity, and leaving a positive impact on the world, despite the challenges and distractions that life presents.
Thank you for taking the time to write this. You get it ;D
@@seanrowemusic and thank you brother for writing the song for me, us. It is and always will be on the top 10 playlist. It speaks volumes. Keep going brother!
When my son is a man, he’ll know what I meant. Gets me every time I hear it……Soul shaking lyrics. ❤
This song inspired me to pick up a guitar at 47yrs of age. Another beautiful performance.
Love hearing that! Thank you my friend!
Keep going! I'm 46 now and picked one up at 40.. Best thing I've ever done!!.. Well 1 if the best.. haaa Top 5....;)
@@nouse4aname_ I used to noodle around on a bass when I was younger, but looked at guitar as beyond my ability. I can now play this song pretty well and hardly a day goes by where I dont pick up my guitar.
Anyone remember this song from the accountant 2016 movie
I do.
One of modern day's finest songwriters.
This song is good anywhere, but I love listening to it while driving. It purely syncs with the drive, and much like the road, it becomes part of life and what I'm doing
Love that! Thanks Adrian.
Here after watching the accountant 2016 again on Netflix…😂 I left something behind…😮
Still raises goose bumps everytime I hear it.
Soul touching
good! That's my job ;D
I dont think Ive heard a song that speaks to me more than this does. Unbelievable
A masterpiece, a GOLD MEDAL in poetry and a magnificent melody.....Sean Rowe you are among the GREAT ONES.
Thanks again!
Such a Wonderful Song! Goosebumps again and again when i listen to that Masterpiece. I love it.
If I leave behind a fraction of what Sean Rowe will have left behind I will be content
One of the best and smoothest songs out there
I had heart failure and a stroke 8yrs ago. I watched the Accountant and was drawn to this song. I have a hard time holding my emotions in. I have sons, stepchildren, step grandchildren. And I feel my mistakes have left irreversible scars on everyone. I try to be a better man every day. And hope I can leave something positive behind❤
Love and forgiveness with no regrets is the goal:)
We’re all of us bulls in our own private china shop, brother. But a man who knows and faces it, and still fights the good fight, well…..respect from a fellow broken heart.
(Seems to me those are the hearts you can trust, but what do I know.)
I loved The Accountant and still think this song is the best part of the movie. So, so good. Thank you.
That means a lot Jon, thank you!
I love this song. Great performance too.
Fantastic song. Still listening to this 5/31/2024. Never gets old. Thanks Sean!
One of my all time favorite songs!
Amazing performance. Love your music Sean!!
This music makes me cry every time I heard it. I was seeing the movie "The accountant" and this is the last song of the movie. I went search for it, and when I find it I was hooked... Congratulations for some good writing and sweet music. I have become a fan.
Yes, sir. That's all any of us can and should try to do. If we cannot leave something behind from a lifetime of accumulated knowledge, we will have failed. It is our only mission to pass it on. Thank you so much.
you're absolutely welcome my friend.
I love this double edged sword. So much bad but so much good to leave behind. I thank God for the power to overcome that which besets us but also for the pure love of a father for his creation, manifest in my children. Sean, man of God, I sense your pain abut also your great love. Bless you brother in His precious name. Gx
Exquisite .... Exquisite !!
THANK YOU
I was mesmerized the first time I heard your voice and melody. Then I saw you live, and bought your Cd- which I rarely do. And got to meet you. Thank you for this. Your musical admirer. Xo Linda

How does this video not have millions of views?
This is a big question.
Definitely one of my favorite's of yours Sean. You ROCK! Keep doing what you do so well and stay cool!!
That's my plan Stephanie! 🙏
Eddie vetter even sits and listens with admiration.
You gotta get this version on spotify man. Save me from trying to load a youtube video at a stop light because this is a DRIVING SONG. :D
Escucho esta hermosa canción casi todos los días. Muchas gracias por componer obras tan preciosas, Sean.
Un enorme abrazo desde Colombia. ❤
this song makes me think about my grandfather, miss him so much. Thank you for this.
Your grand dad did leave something behind. A lasting memory for you.
I got a few of your CDS and love your music. I especially love this song because it echos the desires of my own heart. Thanks for sharing this again. Bless you brother! This was an especially moving performance.
Much appreciated Dano! Thanks for sharing that.
@@seanrowemusic You are most welcome! Wish9ing you more success and blessings!
Sean Rowe you do an excellent job summarizing a 2 hour movie in 6 minutes. This song will be forever tied the Accountant I, i hope they also use it at the end of the Accountant 2, which will be out soon. You deserve to be the theme song of both movies. That being said, this song reminds me of my dad, who passed away 20 years ago, he left behind 3 sons that became something to be proud of, 2 doctors and a chaplain. My dad only had a 9th grade education, but through hard work and selfless determination he made sure his sons would be as successful as possible. Thank you for writing a song that epitomizes my dads efforts. May God Bless You......Retired Police Chaplain S. E. Barker
Thanks so much. I really needed to hear that right now.
Amazing melody performed by an outstanding artist !!
Something so moving about this song and especially hearing it live. Beautiful. Thank you.
Talent. OMG. Well done.
Sean, I am late to the party here. Was sitting in the Dominican Republic with nothing to do and saw the movie The Accountant. When this song came on in the final credits I had to hunt it down. Amazing on all levels from the songwriting, the simple uncomplicated but beautiful guitar, the sincerity and power of your singing. Thank you for this contribution to humankind. I will keep exploring your work.
Thanks so much for turning onto my music, Michael. Really appreciate it!
and i cry❤
Beautiful song, beautifully done, from
someone who has lived a lot of experiences. You could not give a bad performance.
☺️
Such patience in writing such concentration of your efforts.. ...man you are a TOTAL professional....your insights and words have spread around the world...Making it a much better place for all of us..Thank you so very much from a grateful Canadian...⛵️
Thanks a ton Sean
Sean, you touch my heart ♥🙏
This was all Mr Rowe needed to do to guarantee his place as a National Treasure
Aw thank you for your kind words Jack!
This song, Your voice all up is incredible. But this song really is moving and has so much story and background to it and that is about as good as it gets on a song... thank you Sean!
Sean, when I first heard this song I knew that you were a "special singer"! Your music is one of a kind. Mark from Santa Rosa, CA
That means a lot Mark! Thanks for saying that🙏
I just love this song so much. Thank you for releasing this new video. I'm really hoping we can get out to see you in Galway.
❤️
this Isn't even my usual style of music but this is one of the most underrated songs I have ever come across. raw and beautiful. I wish my cover did it justice but I hear seans powerful voice and I feel like a timid mouse with a wannabe norah jones voice. Im going to do this for open mic. I promise, God Willing!
Always loved this song. This is the perfect performance by an incredible artist. Thanks for sharing. Truly. ❤
KING! THIS IS SONG FOR MY FUNERAL. THANK YOU.
My dad just passed away and i was asking him to please leave me signs on what song i should play at his service on June 1st and i found this on his "loved" videos on TH-cam. 💔
Condolences to you and your family! Touching song for his service for sure!
I'm so sorry for your loss ❤
😢
Awesome song Sean, love he harmonica.
thanks Jorge!
🔥
Strongly wonderful, great job Sean
I adore this song. Simply breathtaking.
My legacy isn’t in what I do for a living or how much I make. My legacy is in what I have made and produced in my children, my friendships, my decisions good and bad. My hopes, fears dreams and regrets. That is what I want to try to leave behind, my children and their lives and loves
Love that! Thanks for reaching out
Awesome

You're welcome
Love this song man!
Thank you Sean Rowe
you're quite welcome!
Big rolly tears down my cheeks...moved to my core
Thank you for saying that😌
Great performance, very beautiful heart touching music ... but, but probably, I am from another part of the world, I see myself not in harmony with some of the "words"! .. Behind, will be behind, and for sure its good to leave something behind, but, I think, hope in future ought to be more real. Now for sure, leaving something good behind will also be good for future. .. Well done Sean, All the best Sean Rowe.
Thanks
Beautiful song.
If you like the video, it’s 5 points, if you comment, it’s 10 points and if you share its 15 points!! Like, comment and share!! 😍😍I think that’s accurate.
