I love Treeko's growth alongside Sawyer! It's amazing how they grew from both Ash and Greninja, and how Sceptile did pull out a win once! It gives so much more meaning to their Kalos League match because Ash wasn't guaranteed to win despite (League depiction aside, of course!)! It gave so much meaning to their final battle!
Sawyer is what Ash could've been with his sceptile. They even shared some similar traits. I know this was the oras promotion but it felt like a nice throwback. Kinda wish ash mentioned..... any of his hoenn experience tho. But this is the pokemon anime so kinda just gotta watch and let things happen
It's funny how the league battle between Ash and Sawyer was written. I mean MOST of Ash's team had either a type advantage or a move in its arsenal that would be very effective on Sceptile/Mega Sceptile so between two double knockouts and Ash not recalling Pokemon instead letting them fall, it HAD to be Greninja to finish the job haha Talonflame with type advantage and Brave Bird, Goodra with Ice Beam/Dragon Pulse, Noivern with Dragon Claw/Acrobatics, Hawlucha with Flying Press/X-Scissor, Greninja with Aerial Ace...basically, Pikachu was the only one who'd be screwed especially with Lightning Rod Mega Sceptile. HOWEVER, the Japanese version of Ash-Greninja vs. Sceptile is still EASILY one of if not THE best battle of all time!

Assignment: probably my favorite rival. Sceptile and Sawyer have always looked up to Greninja and Ash. Sawyer also reminded me of Paul because not only did he use everything he learned from ash and more but he also copied Ash’s unpredictability. Like for instance using Slaking to throw Hawlucha off or use Clawitzer to slow Talonflame down. He even used Aegislash to cut down the trees so Ash couldn’t hide in there with Pikachu. Sawyer is a great character. Crap I meant to talk about Sceptile. Well my overall opinion is 10/10. Sceptile had great moves although he should have got another move besides Leaf storm since Frenzy Plant was great so it could control the battlefield but I digress. I guess my only dislike is how Sawyer is so inexperienced. I mean isn’t he all the way from Hoenn. He should atleast know Bagon couldn’t effect Spritzee but he does get stronger. As cool as Sawyer’s Sceptile is, its sadly not my favorite Hoenn Starter being my least. Have a great day
It's a lot of fun to work on narratives for characters like Sawyer whose story lines are so decentralized compared to Ash so expect to see more like this 😎
Not only was Mega Sceptile and Ash/Greninja's battle awesomely climactic, but the animation was gorgeous and the Japanese theme song Letz Go playing in the background accentuated it

Sceptile vs Greninja is one of the best rivalries. As i didnt watch most of kalos league,u sumed of the entire kalos league for me . In the kalos league,the japanese version was awesome with high intense battle,music and statergy. Pickachu vs ageislash was my 2nd fav as it invoved statergy.

The link between Pokemon Alpha Sapphire/Omega Ruby and Pokemon X/Y revolves around Mega-Evolution. I remember some complaining about the inclusion of the Kanto starters in Kalos but everyone loved the Hoenn starters being about to Mega-evolve. The problem is that Sceptile was not as popular as Blaziken and Swampert, something that haunts the Grass starters! Presumably before Ash's Greninja got Battle-Bond, its ability was Protean explaining the strength of its Aerial Ace!
This was one of the most unexpected classes I've been apart of. I was so excited when i found out who you were going to talk about. So surreal. Sceptile is so bad. (That's a good thing professor). I kinda liked the mega evolution
Another reason why X and Y were the best series. Many characters had good arcs and sawyer arguably had the best. Watching him grown and become really strong was refreshing for the series

even 4 years later, Ash his vs Mega Sceptile is still the best 1 on 1 battle in the anime. Electivire vs Infernape and Pikachu vs Tapu Koko are close but the animation, choeography and music of the former edges it out
It's definitely one of the coolest! There's a few Charizard battles that I love for nostalgia's sake even though they don't come close to the beauty that is Sceptile versus Greninja
Not even close, sceptile vs greninja was pure spectacle with no substance, best animation but it lacks tension and there is no story or psychology to the fight. Greninja basically clean sweeps sceptile, the final section of it is specifically hype for ash greninja basically. Charizard vs greninja is better than it. However the best one on one battles are still infernape vs electivire, torracat vs incineroar, tapu koko vs pikachu, and pikachu vs latios. Pikachu vs raichu in sinnoh is better than it even less budget, even charizard vs blastoise or articuno. Hell even torkoal vs registeel, buizel vs lucario had me on the edge of my seat than the sceptile fight.

My favorite ash rival ash greninja vs mega sceptile is my all time favorite battle of the whole anime. The respect and fun and strength these two gave each other is what a top rivalry is.
If it had been Sawyer and Mega Sceptile that had beaten Ash in the finals instead of Alain and his Mega Charizard (which has been suggested to have been unfairly supercharged by Alain's special mega ring from Team Flare) fans might not have been so pissed.
I think having Ash lose to a newbie would have made much more upsetting imo. I don't think Mega Charizard was unfairly overpowered. It definitely proved its strength throughout the saga

Okay, Never been a scenario. But legit I wish Sawyer did return in Journeys and faced off against Ash’s Sceptile!
When pikachu is on the ropes with ageislash...the goosebumps...thier battle in the kalos league is probably the best battle the series.
Even though the animation is pretty crude in comparison, I'm a huge fan of Ash's battle with Drake in the orange islands 😂

Well Professor in my opinion it's like one of the favourite rivals each one of us would just love to see 👍but that's the fighting spirit of Sawyer's Mega Sceptile rivalry with Ash Greninja because it's like that Ash is not using evolution stone but still winning with basic efforts

Sawyer is definitely my favorite xy rival Alain is second and the others are equally third

If Ash would have old Pokemon at the Kalos League,seeing Ash's Sceptile battling Sawyer's Mega Sceptile would be awesome,but worse than the actual fight with Ash-Greninja. I would even add Ash's Sceptile back to the XY anime acting mostly as a influence to Ash's Greninja,and Sawyer's Sceptile.
