Each homeless person has a story if you are willing to listen. I was successful in assisting one. I met her family in another city later. They were grateful! Do not paint each person with the same brush.
Cases like yours are extremely rare. The vast and overwhelming majority of homeless are drug/alcohol addicts, and quite often are mentally ill. I’ve worked in the inner city, have seen and met hundreds of them. I’ve only ever seen someone just down on their luck once. And even then, drugs were involved.
They don't want work. They want Tobe lazy get welfare and panhandle the real homeless are veterans and elderly disabled who c ant pay for a home anyore. The government v heck they get doesn't pay pets, insurance, utilities, taxes so they lose their home and on Street. If you watch them they walk down the block and get into a new expensive car and drive away.

All of us have great compassion on the true homeless people, but I don't extend that same compassion to people who pretend to be homeless to hustle me out of money that I worked for. Just do a search for "homeless people exposed". There are plenty of videos and stories. If you do a search, your eyes will be opened. Here where I live, there's a busy highway with tons of businesses on both sides, and the one spot where the hustlers go. People who work in those businesses tell the stories about what they see. One man sits in a wheelchair at that spot. I always used to wonder how he managed to safely wheel himself to that spot because the road is so heavily trafficked. I found out from people who worked in front of it, that he pushes the wheelchair to the cement median, then sits in the chair begging for money until he leaves. Then he leaves pushing his wheelchair, goes behind a bldg. where his "newer" car is parked, and drives off.
I offered a "Homeless man a can of Spam onetime.... His exact words were," What the hell am I supposed to do with this?? " I said, Well give it back, I like it. He grudgingly took it and said, " Well, I guess I can take it to 7-11 and heat it up. Honest truth. He wanted Gallo!
Fyi...they don't have a can opener or refrigerator. You need a frying to cook it or a bowl and son mircle whip and bread. Etc. So I can see why it said that. You want him to eat it. Out of can raw and no spoon. Silly people. To offer a homeless person a onion. Really ? I know this is comical but it really is not.. A couple of pieces of hard candy and a smile, have a nice day can really warm the heart of a homeless person. Even just a smile of acknowledging that person exists makes every homeless person happy!

I give to the ones that don't ask. Why u think you don't see any on the first of every month? They all get their SSI checks. Then around the 10th of the month here u see em.
My kids and I bought a meal for a person on the corner in front of my 7 9 and 12 year old he took it said thank you as we were driving off my kids were looking back watching him throw off into the ditch now not all may not be that way but still
Maybe it wasn't food he liked. I've had people give me food I didn't want to eat before. I feel bad about throwing it away, but what am I supposed to do with something like a cold can of soup? And granola bars? Homeless people usually don't have good dental plans. Some stuff just can't be eaten if you don't have good teeth. People think that just because you're homeless you should be willing to eat anything. But I don't panhandle and I do tell people that I have income because I don't know if they're in a good financial situation. The person offering me money might be having problems paying their own bills.
Hell I offered one 10 bucks to wash the windows on my truck, he said f you, so I got on my CB that would reach out about 50 miles and let the other drivers know he was a liar, truck drivers are brutal.
EVERY homeless person I have met is that way by choice. Sure, they like to blame everyone, and everything, that they can, but truth is it is by choice. I helped one of them get a job as the maintenance man at a local McDonald's. The first time someone had diarrhea on the toilet and it was his job to clean it up, he refused and got fired. Same day, saw him back on the street with a damn sign!!! He made more money begging than working and honest job, because foolish people felt sorry for him!!!

Mental illness, just about every family has some. Financial disaster, it can happen to anyone. Have a major financial catastrophe and You or I could wind up broke and out on the street.
