X-Games Vert Best Trick 1999, including Hawk's 900. This was rescued from dodgy old VHS tapes. This is from an old Saturday morning show called RAD, which was on in the late 1990's to early 2000's.
The understood the importance of him landing it. It's one trick they knew would never cost them a gold in a skate contest or anything, but it put skateboarding on the map. Definitely one of the biggest moments in the history of sports. That trick elevated the sport to insane heights.
Him and his fellow pro skaters have been trying for 10 years to land a 900 the commentator said; naturally only a hawk could soar that high and stick the landing whilst still looking graceful
I remember watching this live. Man I'm getting old. IMO one of the best events in sports history. People have no idea how incredibly damnably impossible a 900 was on a vert ramp in the 90's. Most couldn't even rip a 720. And then a legend does the impossible in front of other legends. Legendary.
We edited our own footage into the feed we received from ESPN. We knew other stuff would go down that wouldn't make their cut. Like the Colin McKay tech lip craziness. This is the vid you are watching.
I was there June 27 1999. It’s a tradition to visit that site and do it every year! The “X GAMES” logo is still there imbedded in the concrete,if your around the area it’s gated/fenced now and you have to climb over the fence or try to find a way in. If your sav enough you’ll find a way. It’s next to the Bay Bridge. 😎🤙🏼🍺🙏
Damn dude, I remember watching this video after I started skating when I was 9. This trick alone probably helped inspire the my life since then. People can call this guy a casual or whatever they want, but this guy touched a lot of people believe it or not. All in 1 seemingly impossible trick.
I was 15 when I watched this live. I had been skating for 7 years at that point and only knew it was hard and you got clowned constantly. This showed me what it was about. This is why I still skate.
Hell yea, I was 11 years old back in '99 myself and getting hardcore into skating and snowboarding as well. I had a skateboard since like '93 but didn't start getting into it heavier like with tricks and grinds until later ; )
He didn't engrave the animes like a pre schooler I have an orange 🍊 you get home froms I have to go ice cream 🍨 you get me my other account and episodes of the animes and episodes of the animes ya up after work I don't think I can get here it is me with the animes and then I'll get it now here we can 🥫🥫🥫🥫🥫 the animes and then we go
Tony Hawk Sucess as a pro skateboarder has came a long way too bad he retired that same year in 1999 but this when he first came out with his game Tony Hawk Pro Skater video game turned pro in the '80's went on to be the best and greatest of all time throughout his whole life skateboarding never stop skating all the is his life legend he had good life always keeping his life private so cool.
"This is the best day of my life," Said Tony in the heat of the moment, but after remembering his two wedding days, as well as the births of his two children, one of which was born just 3 months prior; He continued "I swear to God".
The beautiful camera resolutions, music and video games were great. Great magazines and tv shows too. Nowadays it's all about selfies and social media.
I know I'm a year late but this isn't true. The game only came out 2 months later. It was already fully developed with his name on it. They actually had to add the trick in. This just helped boost publicity and sales massively, and happened to be impeccable timing not only for Tony and Neversoft, but for anyone that stood to make money of the game. Absolute fairytale.
For anyone they seen this live on tv, ESPN played it on tape delay. It was filmed earlier and edited down for time constraints. Otherwise the word "Live" would appear in the corner. The 2002 Winter X-Games were the first to receive live coverage on the network. The only way you saw it unfold in real time is if you have a ticket stub for that date
People say that, meaning the time it originally aired. Whether it was a live feed isn’t what we’re thinking. It’s the fact that we didn’t see it re-run.
03:30 Look at Bucky Lasek!!! It was his mantra givin to Tony, which led Tony to stay on the board a few seconds later xD Bucky doesnt get enough credit. xD
I agree but in my eyes of being technical brid man didn't land it because of his hand holding him up. It just shows he had no leg strength or the balance. What about the dude that did the 1080 on a skate board?? Where is his video game??
You know you’re a legend when a 720 varial is your warm up...
i love how even though its a competition, everyone's super supportive. Thats pretty cool.
The understood the importance of him landing it. It's one trick they knew would never cost them a gold in a skate contest or anything, but it put skateboarding on the map. Definitely one of the biggest moments in the history of sports. That trick elevated the sport to insane heights.
Nowadays the kids would all be on their phones, probably on social media , taking selfies.
@@joshuaking-lambert7540 you act like these competitions went away lol they don't do that

Thats because they used to hang out everyday... notice most worlds best skaters are friends
Notice everyone giving him their spirit powers like in dragon ball z to help him power up right before he landed it?

Hell yeah....i noticed that shit.....
Notice how the most excited guy was the guy he beat for first place? It's all about seeing people do their thing
Took place in 1999, uploaded to TH-cam in 2009, and now it’s the year 2019.
And its a 900

Thats pretty fucking rad bro
thank YOU! I've really only seen the back tail bigspin, Tony's varial 7, and the 9. Colin's switch shove nose slide shove is bonkers!!!
I want to cry. I'm grateful to have been a part of this Golden age. Born summer of 1990. 90s for life.
I'm 1992 and love getting nostalgic, but it also makes me sad. Great childhood in the 1990's and the early 2000s

1989 😁
Tony's face after he lands it gets me so stoked. You know he was hyped

I lost my mind when I watched this go down in 99. Still boggles it. Absolutely insane for someone to just crank it out like that on a normal ramp.

They had drones. But, the cost about $300k and were massive gas powered behemoths with 100lbs cameras recording at 720p.

so much hype there that day. awesome.
Dude, they're doing stuff that would still win you competitions. That's fuckin insane!
