I have a Barbet and I’ve concluded that the hair in a water dogs ears prevents water getting into the ear as well as fox tails, which is the biggest problem in my area. I do dry out my water dog’s after she goes swimming.

My vet pulled all the hair from.one of my dogs ears and she was traumatized after that and she wouldn't let me near the ears for a long time. I gently pull with my fingers or cut with small scissors ✂️ NEVER AGAIN will I let them do that!!
I am sure you must have seen the stuff that can build up in a standard poodles ears! I have pulled out a mouse sized glob. (With great difficulty). The cleaner the better imho. You have to knee up with the hair every week.

How painful is it (for the dog, not you) to pluck the hair out of a dog's ear? My dog wont let me do that. How long does it take for it to grow back?
