Good content for our veteran community. I'm a 61 year old retired Marine rated at a combined rating of 50% for back and knee service connected disabilities. In 2018 I underwent emergency surgery by a private physician to repair my right knee. Because I was just happy to be able to walk again post surgery I never thought to claim this to the VA for an increase. However comma, I've now developed anxiety, stage 2 hypertension and ED which I believe are directly related to that surgery and the blood pressure meds the VA put me on. Prior to my surgery I was training 7 days a week and never had any issues with my BP, ED or anxiety. Post surgery I can no longer engage in strenuous training which I feel contribute to my current issues. Having said that, In your professional opinion, would it be in my best interest to submit additional claims to the VA? And if so, what do you offer that me or a VSO cannot in order to increase the odds of a favorable adjudication? Thanks and Semper Fi, Ken
Hi there! The only time you should be happy with your VA disability rating percentage is if you believe you’re getting everything you deserve; legally, morally, ethically, and medically. If you think you deserve an increase, open a new claim on VA.gov and file for it! WE MAKE VA CLAIMS EASY! We’ve simplified the process for you into its most essential elements for VA claim success. You’re assigned a Veteran Coach (VC) team; we will educate you through the often confusing VA claim process. Our education-based membership programs include access and permission to use our proprietary resources, which include reduced rates to independent medical professionals in our referral network for medical examinations, disability evaluations, credible Nexus Letters, and Mental Health Independent Medical Opinions (IMOs) for a wide range of disability conditions. Here’s our secret formula for VA claim success: Strategy + Education + Medical Evidence (SEM) = VA Rating You Deserve in Less Time! Accredited VSOs and claims agents represent Veterans and act on your behalf before the VA. They prepare and file your VA claim for you, interact with the VA, and act on your behalf. In contrast, VA Claims Insider is an education company, not a VSO, claims agent, or law firm. We are a dedicated team of fellow Veterans and Veteran advocates (we are not accredited).

I appreciate his comments on the whole "Nexus" letter being necessary. PLEASE keep in mind, if you are being seen by a private physician as many Veterans often do, your physician letter explaining the connection with your primary service-connection suffices as a Nexus letter! Just make sure it has the correct wording in it and there are numerous sources out there that provide the wording. There seems to be this whole hoopla around the "Nexus" Holy Grail hype that is used by these "for-profit" organizations that capitalize on this buzz word because in the VA Health care world it is a common function of the claims process. The FACT is, outside Dr.'s are often NOT clued into the whole "Nexus letter", so you'll need to Educate them. When I explained to my Audiologist what that letter will need to explain, she then seemed to completely understand her role in the process! It's not difficult guys and gals and it's not mysterious. What I'm seeing being sorta "skipped over" is how the DBQ (Disability Benefits Questionnaire) is just about as important as the Nexus letter. If your Physician completes the DBQ thoroughly, your claim has FAR better chances of a positive outcome for you than hunting down that holy grail "Nexus letter". Remember, the Nexus letter is NOT required for a secondary claim! You have already established the "service connection" by the initial primary claim! The secondary claim just has to show that the secondary disability or issue is related to the primary rated claim! That is it!
Claim for headaches, sleep disturbance for bilateral knee strain. Lumbar strain, TMJ secondary to anxiety. Waiting on a C&P exam to be scheduled. At 92%…VA math round down to 90%.
I am in the process of separating from the Army and Will be looking to take advantage of BDD. A lot of things you mentioned I have been diagnosed with. I have Asthma, Obstructive Sleep Apnea on which I have been issued a mouth guard to use, Allergic Rhinitis. Flat Feet, A lumbar strain, tendinitis in left knee, Osgood Schlatters, Depression and Anxiety and I know I could be missing some things. I have been prescribed medicine for depression and anxiety which does bother my stomach and Ed but haven’t reported that just yet because I just started the medicine and have a follow up, allergy medicine such as loratadine and flutcasone, a topical gel for pain, naproxen, etc. I’m just trying to get a head start on how I should approach submitting what I have so far so I can be best prepared when the time comes.

If you are awarded 100%, that is the highest amount of benefits and compensation you can get! Unless you're trying to secure P&T status or qualify for SMC.
Everyone said including my attorney I could win regarding sleep apnea secondary to cfs. I submitted evidence on sleep disorders and cfs in addition to mitochondrial damage and sleep disorders. This includes its impact on the various nervous systems and involuntary muscles. I received sleep apnea as 50% secondary. Others need to consider if your in constant pain for something service related, you are going to be depressed. If you are service related for fatigue, is likely your going to have obesity problems and so forth. Think out of the box. Always write cover letters explaining and attach the science. Include the cfr and the evidence you meet specific percentage with the medical records documented to support the claim
Hey. So I went yesterday for a c&p exam for bruxiism. The examiner saw that i had alot of teeth grinding on one side but the problem is that i never went to get it checked out because i just found out about that bruxism could be something I could claim as a secondary to mental health issues. The examiner asked if I saw a doctor . 😔. I'm worried now. Hopefully it works out because I have 80 percent.
My collarbone was broken, I got 10 percent, but it hurts more as I got older. I have neck problems too now. I got denied for Tinnitus, but have lots of ringing in my ears

At 61 years old I ended up with bladder cancer January 2023 and then ended up with stress anxiety and depression because of it. So they gave me 100% total and permanent service-connected because of Camp Lejeune. If someday they send me for a compensation and pension exam I'm bringing a Nexus letter from my psychologist and psychiatrist who prescribed me medication. I will also submit the fact that I have urinary issues

Hello, I have a question. I've been diagnosed with migraines but only have 1 doctor visit. I also have a migraine journal of about 9 months. My ex injured her right ankle in basic. The DI ignored it. The next day, she injured the other ankle due to favoring the other. In time, this led to her having problems with the rest of her skeletal frame. After discharge, it took her several years before she filed for service connected. It took her twelve years of yearly filing to build up her percentages to 100%. This was in the 90's. Today, it is much better. If you believe you have a claim, file it and sit tight. My claim filed through the DAV took 6 months in 2008-9. Just do it like Brian explains.
Question : You said bruxism secondary to tinnitus... you ABSOLUTELY need to have the diagnosis of bruxism, is that correct.? that's the first step.? Nvmd, I watched the rest of the video and you answered it at the end of the video. Lol I knew I could count on you to answer that Brian, thanks.!
Thanks for the video. I'm so confused and what/how to file. Would I file for an increase on my current disability and mention the secondary disability or would I file separately for the secondary condition? Or is it advisable or possible to do both simultaneously?

I forwarded a DBQ back in 2016 . Help by my doctor. At the bottom of the form it shows diagnosed with headaches and joint pain. But because it wasn't service connected I was denied. I had a c&p back in August 26th this year I claimed migraines still waiting for a decision. Should I just wait for decision before taking any action.
Here at VACI, our Veterans, on average, get a decision back within 90-120 days after they file their claim. It could be shorter, or take longer, so we focus on making sure you submit proper documentation and hopefully shorten any delays. Have you checked your claim status yet? You can do so here > www.va.gov/claim-or-appeal-status/

I have hearing loss and ear drum collapse on left side.

Great advice....my question is I honorably discharged in 1998 and was not dx with multiple sclerosis until 2011 but they denied my claim saying there is a 7 year presumptive rule this this condition .....but its stated even on the VA websites that symptoms can be unknowingly occurring years prior to a diagnosis, which is weird that they denied my claim because my MS did not just suddenly occur 11 years later, symptoms were occurring that I did not recognize as a major problem back in the 90s....I am at a lost how to get a claim approved

This could be from your active duty military medical records, your private doctor, or a VA health care provider. You must also show that your service caused or aggravated your mental health condition to be granted service connection. Service connection is required to earn a mental health VA rating. In addition to a current medical diagnosis, you need to provide the VA with: Documentation of the severity of your symptoms (from a doctor) A medical nexus from a doctor that links your mental health condition to your service, or another service-connected disability We can refer you to one of our preferred medical providers in our network. I'm 73 years old I served with the 82nd Airborne Division. I started getting back problem that summer I have since had both knees replaced my back is shot and just recently saw a neuro surgeon at Walter Reed Hospital, he did not recommend surgery at this time. Surgery would only alleviate about 10 % of my pain . Surgeon recommended that I see outside specialist for my back and exhaust all possibilities before surgery. I'm in the process of applying for disability and the SVO say i should get a NEXUS LETTER from my doctor. Called my doctor office, they say that they no longer have my file and the practice no longer accept new patient, would not leave a message for my doctor. I bern searching for a doctor to write a nexus but price are prohibitive. My question to you is it worth the asking price , what are my chances on getting disability and what do you recommend. Lastly I'm also having problem in regard of putting pen to paper all my issues from the back to knees, Sleep apnea and so on. Are they any association that can help in this regard i would be greatly appreciated. Thank you I advance for any help that you can provide.

Also, I had high cholesterol and very high triglycerides while I was in the military for 30 years that they never did treat. Put in for increase for my lower back, legs and feet. My C&P exam did not go will I don't think. Totally different from the first one I had. From the start the doctor wouldn't answer any of my questions, got ether I can't answer that, or I don't know. He was using a computer and typing as he was doing the exam. I ask if the form he was using was a BDQ, he said he had no idea what a BDQ was. I ask how long he had been doing C&P for VA he said 4 year. He started checking my feet, wouldn't listen when I was telling him what he was doing was hurting me badly his commit was I'll get over it. Same when checking my knees. When doing my back keep telling me you can bend over more you need to do more, finely I said no more you're hurting me. At the end of the exam, I told him he had hurt me he turn around going out the door and said that he didn't do that. The exam took maybe 13 minutes and him working on the computer took up the other time about 25 minutes. What really got me was he didn't ask one question about any of my pain that I was having. I walk out in so much pain I had to stop 3 times before getting back to my truck. Should I report this to VA or wait until after the C&P finding comes out.
You CAN AND SHOULD report a bad C&P exam to the VA immediately by calling 1-800-827-1000 and reporting it to the company that the C&P examiner works for (check your C&P exam paperwork). We’ve helped thousands of Veterans overcome a bad C&P exam and get a new exam before the VA rater issues a rating decision.

Sadly Telemedica couldn't make the connection between OSA and me gaining weight due to Allergic Rhinitis. They went directly to weight gain and waived me off, after taking my money.
Hi Susan, medical professionals are obligated to give an accurate assessment of your conditions. If after doing an examination they couldn't find the connection to write a nexus letter, stating otherwise would be considered illegal and unethical.
@@VAClaimsInsiderthis article states exactly opposite - YES, you CAN connect it. So the question stands - why does Brian say “those days are long gone”? Would you mind clarifying?
The Fact that there are so many videos giving advice on how to navigate the VA is proof enough in itself that the whole system sucks, there should just be an executive order to give all vets 50% of whatever the max disability rating is right now as a basic income , plus free health care to use with care providers of your choosing. Veterans only make up 6% of the population, they just print money out of thin air, why cant those who have served in wars be bumped up a tier in society? They can give money, and housing to illegals but are not taking care of most Veterans.
Because we’re an education company that doesn’t perform the job functions of a VSO, claims agent, attorney, or any other entity who represents veterans (with power of attorney) before the VA, there's no need for us to seek accreditation.
You and your family are blessed Happy New Year!

BOOM!

This is great advice! Think out of the box! Thanks for sharing.
Use all the info you can get from these videos and talking to other vets, then have your doctor write your nexus letter for FREEEEEEE

So they gave me 100% total and permanent service-connected because of Camp Lejeune. I will also submit the fact that I have urinary issues

By the way I'm a Gulf War Veteran.
Here at VACI, our Veterans, on average, get a decision back within 90-120 days after they file their claim. It could be shorter, or take longer, so we focus on making sure you submit proper documentation and hopefully shorten any delays.

.....but its stated even on the VA websites that symptoms can be unknowingly occurring years prior to a diagnosis, which is weird that they denied my claim because my MS did not just suddenly occur 11 years later, symptoms were occurring that I did not recognize as a major problem back in the 90s....I am at a lost how to get a claim approved

How can I get a letter/paper work from a professional that says I have anxiety/depression and do you know who I can go through? Preferably telehealth!
This could be from your active duty military medical records, your private doctor, or a VA health care provider.
You must also show that your service caused or aggravated your mental health condition to be granted service connection. Service connection is required to earn a mental health VA rating.
In addition to a current medical diagnosis, you need to provide the VA with:
Documentation of the severity of your symptoms (from a doctor)
A medical nexus from a doctor that links your mental health condition to your service, or another service-connected disability
We can refer you to one of our preferred medical providers in our network. Learn more here > vaclaimsinsider.com/nexus-letter/#9-how-do-i-get-a-nexus-letter

@@VAClaimsInsider I had to set up a court date with a VA judge as an appeal. Hopefully that takes care of it. Thank you. I'll reach out if that fails and there is another option or i need another option. Its really a cut and dry case though, so i suspect it wont be a problem.
What if I was separated from service due to obesity? And still obese and held back from exercising because of my primary conditions.

I have been ex's with bipolar and PTSD since sexual abuse in the army. I was denied disability because the person who did the abuse did not put it in my records. Go figure.

Not true, I didnt have a nexus or a diagnosis, when I submitted a secondary claim of anxiety for tinnitus. When from 10% to 70%.
Thank you for sharing your experience!
Notice how he keeps pushing a nexus letter, it’s for their financial gain. You don’t have to have one. They wanted over $400 for a piece of paper, I said no. Now I’m doing my claims with the help of someone else who is not trying to rob me.
@@VAClaimsInsider I did not get any C&P paperwork or of anything leaving the dr office

Heard they reduced sleep apnea to 0 percent.?

Why cant you link migraines to tinnitus anymore?

Thank you for tuning in.
I'm sorry i forget to mention i ETS Jan 73 .
Thank you for your service!
Are you accredited by the VA?
Because we’re an education company that doesn’t perform the job functions of a VSO, claims agent, attorney, or any other entity who represents veterans (with power of attorney) before the VA, there's no need for us to seek accreditation.
