Why East Africa Is The Fastest Growing Region In Africa

  • Three of the top 5 fastest growing economies in Africa are located in East Africa; Rwanda with 8.7 per cent growth, Ethiopia with 7.4 percent, and Tanzania 6.8 percent growth. In comparison, economic growth in the entire continent was recorded at 3.4 percent, with East Africa’s average growth estimated at 5 percent in the same period. Oh did I mention that the region is also home to three of the top 10 fastest growing economies in the world?
Keep in mind that that East Africa does not host the larger share of Africa’s wealth. Of the big five economies in Africa; Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa, none is based in the east. East Africa contributes less than 20% to Africa’s overall GDP. What are countries in East Africa doing differently from other regions that seem to have more potential?
We know that East Africa is famous for some of the most beautiful wildlife in the world, and that the area is also home to Africa’s tallest mountain. But this doesn’t answer the question of why this region is dominating. Well, today we find out why East Africa has the fastest growing economy in Africa. If you are new here, you are welcome. In Kenya for example u will find the Kikuyu, luo, Luhya etc, and those 60 yrs these groups had to find a way to live together, with constant struggle for power. The good thing about it is, as time flies we are finding proper balance and a new identity as East Africans in particular and Africans in general. Stupid thinking.
If you aren't aware, Tanzania is the only country stabilizing the rest of the East African states.
      1) Kenya and Uganda are fighting for a tiny island in lake Victoria called Migingu.
      2) Rwanda and Uganda have a two year long boarder dispute.
      3) Burundi and Rwanda have always been the antithesis of each other.
      4) Tanzania has virtually no problem with any of it's neighbours.
Now tell me about the nonsense hypothetical federation you are talking.

I have no doubt that East Africa will take away the likes of Nigeria from the scene; to me, it's a matter of "when", not "if". Unless the other African countries foster the kind of unity East Africa has only a fool will think that we will compete with Nigeria or South Africa. ... e.g. EAC now has:
    1. A road network that connects the entire region (except for Somalia).
    2. An East African e-passport
    3. Common Kiswahili language. in Kenya's 2010 constitution, it was recognized as a national language
    4. An East Africa Anthem duped "jumuiya" and even the EAC flag our kids raise in schools
    5. EAC Games and other art/music competitions
    6. Some leniency to live and work anywhere. e.g. I know a lot of Tanzanians and Ugandans living in Mombasa. And, to their kids, it all they can call "home"
    .
    .
Aaaand now, DRC might join the brotherhood. If that happens; who will ever compete with such a block? And even if it doesn't happen, which other region has dared to do a fraction of what EAC has achieved? ...none that I know of.
EAC will be Africa's USA 20 years from now.

@@meziembamara4004 Nigeria's strength lies More on Oil cause almost 80% of the economy is Oil based. The EAC relies entirely on it's people. The agricultural, Tech, Industrial and Construction sectors being the main driving engine. Education is also helping alot and of all regions in Africa the EAC would definitely be the first to develop. They've already dominated the Aviation Industry in Africa out doing South Africa by far. The transport sector is developing on steroids and Cities like Kigali, Addis Ababa and Nairobi are already becoming continental hubs. In the Next 10 years the EAC would be ahead of every region in Africa.
