My opponent has overpowered me. I'm on the ground, beaten and bruised, and he is about to go for the killing blow. Suddenly, his sword is now a mop. My sword and shield have become a broomstick and dustpan. My opponent's helmet is now a bucket, completely blinding him. I gain the upper hand, being much more skilled in janitorial combat than my opponent. Finally, the coup de grace: His bucket helmet is now a tub of bleach. He drowns before he can remove it.

Anticipation is the most overrated ability. People assume that since you are the only one who changes events. But if you have 5 seconds foresight and see your opponent will do a high cut, and you place your sword in a defense position 5 seconds in advance, your opponent will simply attack differently. Anticipation requires timing as well, which is not to be underestimated.

Don't underestimate Math-Man, man! His mental maths would give him the ocular equivalent of a protractor with which he could measure angles of attack precisely. The processing power to make quick(And accurate) estimates of your speed, strength, and mobility. As well as a precise breakdown of either your style or your fighting habits/quirks(The purpose being to predict your next move so as to either avoid something dangerous or to take advantage of a deadly weakness).
It's less obvious than if you were fighting a person who could shoot lasers from their eyes, but it would be fairly terrifying if you had to fight a Math-Man. Their tactics and abilities would be impeccably crafted, and all the time they're fighting you it'll seem as if your very mind is being picked apart and deconstructed. For every inch you give Math-Man will take another 20. Am I right or am I right? :p
Numbers Man from Worm would certainly win against almost every opponent in a sword fight.

Though it could be valid you would have to have super perception that is accurate down to small degrees of measurement at nearly any perspective. That ultimately makes it super perception breaking the rule of one power.

Actually "Superfast Cognition" already exists as a super power: Superhot.
Stay still, and everything is in complete slow motion until you move. You're still very squishy, human, and vulnerable, but your reactions and precision of movement are god tier, to an outside perspective probably look like the biggest badass to ever live.

There's some instances of similar to this in 40k, both just super fast reaction times, and even precognition. Knowing where what your opponent is going to do ahead of time because you can see vaguely or precisely into the future depending on the character. I believe Konrad Curze Vs Lion'El Johnson was a good example of it. They're both primarchs which are pretty much walking demi-gods. Konrad had a "Curse" of foresight, and Lion'El Johnson although i'm unsure of his exact abilities in particular because I never focused that deeply on the dark angels in warhammer 30k. Was just a extrodinarily good sword fighter and subconciously adjusted his sword strikes which threw off konrads precognition.
I think the strongest superpower for a swordfight is bringing a gun to a swordfight and make it still a swordfight but a gunfight

Super toughness/invulnerability would actually be better. With healing factor they could still "kill you" and disarm you before you healed (even if you killed them, an ally could disarm you), or leave the blade buried in you, preventing your revival. But if you couldn't be hurt, you could just do suicidal "doubles" and kill every opponent with zero consequence.
Let's face it. The best super power is always gonna be super luck.
Think about it. Superman? Oh, good fortune has struck in the form of a kryptonite meteor smacking him in the gob.
Super fast guy? Oops, looked like he tripped.
Etc. Etc.

I'd just use that to win the lottery so I can have more time on my hands without having to spend most of my life working. Also would make games easier and item farming less tedious.

Its called probability manipulation, and it is one of the best powers hands down.
What about the super-power of Plot Invicibility? It's kind of like quantum immortality, in the sense that, no matter what you do, you win. The enemy goes for a downward slice against your head, and you don't even bother moving? The enemy will trip and fall upon his sword. Are you thrown from a ship in the middle of the ocean? Time to discover friendly, sexy mermaids!
On a slighty more serious note, the power of "being very tough", or even healing factor, it's not that overpowered. After all, you just need four guys with nets, ropes, chains, and an appropiate lake/mine to bury the indestructible enemy.
Or just shovels and patience.

The ability to transform any sword into either a grilled cheese sandwich or a gun. Somebody is trying to fight you, then all of the sudden he has a grilled cheese sandwich and you have a gun.
I have a couple of ideas:
The Eye of Insight is one of the powers of the Sharingan (from the Naruto manga/anime). It's essentially accelerated cognition, with the added bonus of eidedic memory and a wedding of cognitive memory and muscular memory. That means you get super fast perception, and whatever you see, you can imitate. With the Eye of Insight, not only can you win almost any fight, but every fight makes you a better fighter, having learned the techniques of every opponent you've faced or watched.
Biotics from Mass Evvect offer a LOAD of advantages in a sword fight. Depending on how many biotic powers you master, you can fling yourself around the arena, alter the mass of your blade in mid-swing, cover yourself in a force-field, and probably a lot of things I can't remember.
Also, short-range teleportation. That's pretty self-explanatory, as long as it works like it does for most fictional teleporters, and doesn't leave your clothes behind or something.
The force? Functionally, that's a limited form of precognition and telekinesis. And lightning fingers, maybe.
I can think of a bunch more, but they're all from anime: Greed's Ultimate Sheild, Gilgimesh's Gate of Babylon, Arturia Pendragon's Invisible Air, the Rinnegan's Shinra Tensai, Airbending (well, that one's a cartoon, technically, but still), so on like that. I might have a problem.

I think Super Strength is underrated. You can were incredibly thick armor that can basically deflect swords. You can swing your swords or greatsword at very fast speeds and considering you have Super Strength you can jump around to avoid your enemies attacks. You can become a ultra Juggernaut and move at incredible speeds as well.
Actually super speed would beat that because while yes with super strength you can move fast with very powerful legs, your mind won't be able to keep up with it and you would also be launching yourself in a direction making it hard to stop or alter your course quickly. This makes it easy for someone with super speed to win as all they have to do is make the person with super strength launch themself then just use their super speed to run right at them and thrust into the armor. The sword, despite likely breaking in the process, would still puncture the armor due to the kinetic force all being focused on the sword's tip plus the incredibly speed the target is running into the tip with.
Spicy meathballs, the speed would come from jumping in a direction, not running. And with a jump it would not be easy to suddenly stop or change directions as your feet are not touching the ground.
Not if i have the super power of the Sword that can kill literally anything it touches except its first wielder (Which is me), tangible or not, also having super strength don't make you more agile or makes you think faster.
What good is super strength if you have bad reflexes and agility?
Having a sword that can kill anything is not a superpower, that is just a magical weapon.
Its just a example how there's a simple work around, compared to other super powers, Super Strength is shit.
People forgot that the only think they get by asking Super Strength, is literally just Super Strength, they still has the IQ of a average Human as well as thinking, reflexes and agility, useless compared to other super powers in my opinion.

I have always wanted to see a good superhero movie do this. The closest I've seen is Next featuring Nic Cage. The movie was kinda ok, but the potential of the idea is amazing.
The problem with that power is: if you are dead, how do you reload? How does the ability work if you have, for example, a bullet in you brain, or if a sword chopped off your head?

I'd probably go with flight, not because it's the best, but because it somehow manages to be underrated AND taken for granted and I intend to fix that. Let me explain, a foothold is important in a fight, mainly because if you don't have one, you can be knocked up, down and all around (insert clip of George Takai saying "oh my" here) pretty easily. With the power of Superman style flight, you can CREATE A FOOTHOLD out of LITERAL NOTHING! FORGET HAVING THE HIGH GROUND! I AM THE HIGH GROUND SUCKERS OF MOTHER'S!!!!!!!!
Flight + ranged weapon is the ultimate combo. You essentially become an attack helicopter. The limitation of a ranged weapon is that it doesn't do too well at mele range, but flight allows you to just never get into mele range.

3. Power : Super speed
Reason : Mentioned in the video. But tbh you might die from concussion for moving too fast, depends on how the superpower works.
2. Power : Predict the future (ideal more than 3~5 seconds)
Reason : You can dodge everything because you already know their movements and how they strike/attack, if it's an arrow you'll still have 3 seconds or more PLUS the arrow travel time until it hits. (or not because you already moved)
3. Power : Be rich
Reason : Be a rich noble and stay away from the battle field is your best chance of survival. Besides, you can buy everything you ever wanted. Even if you are dumb enough to fight, you can still get the best armor and weapons you need. But I guess this ruins all the fun.
P.s. if you're going to tell me being rich isn't a superpower, ask Batman.

maxdrags3 If you are going to die anyways no matter what, you can't just change it with superpowers, watch any superhero deaths. Well if you REALLY want to be alive after this, find a firend with magic to revive you/ create a new universe that you were still alive/ go back in time to protect you.
P.s. the last power may have a loophole (go back in time), you side you are going to die no matter what, and what caused your death ? There is a small chance that the time travel caused your death. Butterfly effect is so random that not only you'll be dead, the world might end.
I would say know the future, predicting, to me, means there's room for error.

But other than that, time control is probably the best (with save-states-and-autosaves being a close second)
psychokinesis is probably the best ability, while you have your opponent in place with a struggle, you can levitate your weapon to continue it. While they are in lock, you can use a knife or another blade and go straight for their belly after crouching. Assuming they don’t have armour of course
Scarlet_ Vi _King it's definitely one of the best but I wouldn't want it mainly because I prefer physically attacking my enemy because in a battle you're supposed to take risk not taking risk defeats the purpose in my opinion as for what power I choose I would choose the ability to sense attacks all around me kind of like Spider-Man and Daredevil
Sorry to reply on a year old comment, but I also really love psychokinesis not because it is ridiculously op like time manipulation, but because it is one of the most versatile superpowers. Having psychokinesis means you have an invisible shield, touchless superstrength, and flight. And you might be able to even more things depending on how you train with it, such as electricity manipulation. It really is only limited by your imagination. Sorry, just wanted to geek out about my favourite superpower

Yeah, who needs super speed when you can slow the time and fight as you would normally. Heck, just freeze time and cut the person to pieces before he blinks. Sure, it may seem like you are super fast, but time manipulation isn't just limited to just slowing time. Watch the enemy draw and begin to attacks, go back a few seconds, sneak up on their back while they are swinging their sword and just stab them in the back.

Being able to solve math problems at superspeed would help in a sword fight, you could calculate where your opponent was going to attack based on hip and shoulder placement, in fact this is what expert tennis players do without realising it

There was actually a villain like this in that old show Alpha. He could make physics calculation in his head instantly and was thus able to do all kinds of crazy stuff like predict the future, find stress points in objects and all kinds of other crazy shit. He once blew up 2 armored cars by flipping a quarter at just the perfect angle that it caused a critical malfunction in the gas tank and set the whole thing on fire. Dude literally killed six armed gunmen with a quarter.

I'd say energy control would be the most OP power. You could nullify or control all forms of energy which would logically include magic considering it would need to be a form of energy. You could manipulate electrical, chemical and nuclear energy; charging your phone with a single touch, forming or splitting chemical bonds, or creating nuclear reactions. You could control gravitational and electromagnetic energy; controlling gravity for yourself and simultaneously manipulating your potential and kinetic energies to essentially fly, manipulating light to essentially become invisible.
The possibilities are endless because you can control all energy, and everything that ever can or will happen requires energy.

Telekinesis, easily. You could use your mind to freeze your opponent in place, or snap their sword in half, or wield 20 flying swords at once. Also, you could create a mental barrier around yourself, protecting you from harm. Or, just snap their neck/ crumple them into a ball if you wanted to avoid a fight

Energy and manipulation would be on. If you have this, armor is unneeded. The reason swords cut is because the energy is transferred to such a small point that the point is sliced. With the energy manipulation you can just absorb it, store it, and squash it so it's a molecule thick and use it to slash the opponent. All armour is useless against you.

So, I'm 2 years too late buuuttt....
You see a man walk down a dirt path, 4 swords strung across his back in an x pattern and one by his side in a normal position. You think 5 swords.. who kneeds 5 swords.. but nonetheless they all look like nice swords and you want them, he may have money so you draw your blade and attempt to rob him. Suddenly you find yourself fighting 4 disembodied floating blades they are moving slow but there numbers keep you busy. The man is just staring, concentrating the swords get faster and faster. You know at this point your life is forfeit.

While yes telekinesis is definitely one of the best powers, i feel like you arent really sword fighting at that point.

Good insights to character building, particularly the point where the possibility of hide the power is considered. A power that can be hidden, and used with some risk of being discovered but not too much, allow a rich variety of tense situations in a story.
One could build a curious worlds starting on that difference between powers that can be hidden allowing the person who have them to pretend to not have power and others (seemingly) more impressive capacities that can't be used discretely in public. People like the X-Man Colossus can not own land, inherit property, live inside the city walls or even legally marry, while lucky fellows like The Flash can do all that and log as they hide their power carefully during fights.
Actually super speed means super power, just a trust would have enough momentum for the sword to pierce trough everything.

The power to manipulate probability is severly underrated though.
There is now a 100% probability that my opponents sword is actually a pool floatie. Also, the probability of him getting explosive diarhea and forfeiting the duel is increasing for each passing second.

unless you have magic weapons and armour to switch out generally not a super useful power, as just constantly wearing armour is best in a fight, weapons /may/ be helpful to change around but if so you know what you can do, have weapons on you. that power would be helpful in everyday life as a fighter, but if you're planning to fight you should just keep your armour on
@@hammatron8403 it's more like swapping into armor most fitting for the scenario, so you can fight unimpaired and then swap into armor instantly. In addition being able to call any weapon is like a swiss army knife of combat. Axe, polearm, sword, your weapon can change in an instant to adapt.

This is exactly what i was thinking just the other side of the coin. I thought instead of you being super fast, you have the ability to control time. That way not only could you slow time to appear faster, you could also speed it up to make waiting times almost non existent.

Advanced fire powers: fire manipulation, fire immunity to prevent burns and overheating, and fire solidification to make objects out of fire, like a spear or shield made out of concentrated and focused heat and fire.
Time manipulation would probably be the best power. It has all the pluses of super speed and even more. You could stop time entirely and do a DIO with a bunch of knives, go backwards in time should you somehow get hurt, or other shenanigans.

Sands of Time from Prince of Persia. As Skal said himself, it's all about anticipating their action and responding accordingly, so being able to reverse time (even after a fatal blow) and readjust accordingly would allow you to win in pretty much any scenario.
Plus the sands let you slow time and get the benefits of that too.
See, I feel like regeneration coupled with the ability to feel no or very little pain would be great. Not the best by any means, but great. I mean, imagine fighting a guy where you slash him across the chest and he just backs up and you see the cut heal over, and he's fine again. That would be scary. You would basically only be able to kill someone like that with a decapitation, unless it's like Deadpool regeneration, which then you're boned. Even if the opponent was incompetent, they would still be able to shrug off most of your blows, and nothing save fatigue would incapacitate or even slow them. That's intimidating. Good video Skal. Captain Stroon speed would beat it if the speedster initiates the fight but if you want to have the most op version of teleportation think of this mechanism:
You can set up your power so that it does perform multiple actions with a single command, for compare it to a guitar string for example you only need to pull it once to make it swing back and forth multiple times.
The second part would be a consequence of the power only applying to connected objects (you can only teleport what you touch or and you by default teleport a whole object). This would mean that the properties of the matter that are in the area do effect your ability making it theoretically possible to set your power to go of only if a certain amount of mass is in the area you use it on (back to the string analogy you can make the string vibrate but it only makes the correct sound if somebody else places his finger on the string).
And third the part would be to have controller if you teleport a complete object or only part of it.
If 1 applies you would have a constant shield but you would have to activate it and keep it active having no good control about what you teleport where.
2. A shield that you don't have to activate concisely but that will only block one attack
3. You can destroy anything you touch.
1.&3. A ultimate sword that cuts anything, the ability to create shockwaves by combusting air into a closed object (for example your hands and keep the air inside by teleporting everything that hits the inside into the room.
2.&3. Touch me and your dead

Telekinesis: Underrated, and here's why
In a duel: Use telekinesis to hold your sword and back up to a safe distance, grab his sword and disarm, grab his armor to open up gaps, then use the floating blade to kill him
If you are outnumbered (Example is 4 people): Grab the armor of 2 people, puppeteer their fight, who ever loses is one less enemy, repeat until 1 weakened enemy is left and revert to duel strategy
or put the fighter 50cm off the ground so he can't do anything even with speed
Or, you know, Blow their heads off, cut a large part of the veins to their brain, crush their helmets on both sides of their skull to single point, crush their hearts, dice up their innards...
Invisibility would be usefully but only if whatever it is the you are wearing and holding also become invisible with you. If your opponent can't see you they can't hit you and they can't block your attack because they don't know where it's going to come from.

Underrated: 'Concept Cutting'. Imagine your wepon can cut and nullify any magic, attack and armor, or you can cut out the oxigen out of your enemy's vicinity, which could nullify even super speed or invincibility.
The idea of resistant eyeballs had me chuckling for a good 5 minutes.
Also, I like the idea of changing your perception of time.
Check out Grrlpower comic. There is one super so invulnerable that he blocks a sword stab with his eyeball. And not just a regular sword, a "my power is that any sword I hold become ultra Sharp" weapon.
Personally, I would pick the Force. I don't particularly care for the lightsabers- as cool as they are- because I prefer steel. Employ the Force throughout the body can increase the strength speed, cognition, etcetera, while also hardening the body, and everything else. And this ignoring Push, Pull, Jump, Lightning, etcetera.
Honestly, the Force is many different superpowers all wrapped up into one, so it's sort-of cheating.

The ability to make an infinite amount of clones of myself. If a 1v1 fight can suddenly become a 10v1 then I would easily win against anyone assuming they don’t have any way to counter so many enemies at once. The same works if I am outnumbered, I can just make more of myself and suddenly outnumber them.
This is kind of overpowered in battlefields since I could just create clones and stretch out the line of soldiers until the enemy couldn’t match it. When that happens, I would still have enough clones to for a 10 rank deep shield wall. Then have them march at the enemy and encircle them. I guess the only thing I wouldn’t have is cavalry.
Though you would need a way of disposing the clones, you wouldnt want millions of yous just roaming the world

I'm a personal fan of cloning or telekinesis. In one you can create a group and 1 v 2+ is almost always in favor of the group. In the other, it's so cool to wield a blade from a distance being able to strike with no need to block, and there's no reason the user can't bring the blade back if they need to defend.

I've always thought that the best super power for any situation is the ability to pause time (not to be confused with "stop time", which could mean it never unstops). You have limitless time to react to any situation and anything you can't do yourself you can set-up to occur when time unpauses.
Really good power, but doesn't stop you from being harmed in your sleep, or stabbed at the back.
It also depends on how it interacts. Does it mean that nothing can move because time has stopped, therefore things cannot move because physics? Can we just move something from A to B when time has paused without them instantly dying from accelerating to infinite speed and then slowing down infinitely. Assuming time stoppage just acts as teleporting somehow, then yeah I guess it works. But at this point, why not just wish for god like reality warping right?
TL;DR - you can find holes in any superpower that is described in less than a handful of words save for "I win".
Good choice, but you need to know that its happening, and have the reaction time to enable the power. If someone stabs you in the back, stopping time wont stop your bleeding.

Francisco, okay, assume this hero sleeps when time is paused. Even then, he would have to be on a full-time alert, spending most of the time in "pause mode" and checking his surroundings. The moment he gets his guard down, he leaves a chance to be shot in the back. Quite a nervous life.
What about selective intangibility/phasing. Good luck slashing me if your blade goes through unobstructed like through air. You could just walk up to them.

When you brought up speed and perception as a superpower for sword fighting, I thought of Akame from Akame Ga Kill. Given how crazy fast she is, here is a feats list to help you understand why I think of Akame.
Also, I personally agree. I rather have superhuman speed, cognition, and perception as my superpowers that I can turn on and off at will. ESPECIALLY at will, cause being stuck like that 24/7 would make the rest of my life...difficult. It'd be like I can do anything I want and learn everything in the world far faster than everyone else, but I'd always be playing the waiting game for other humans to do things I need their help with.
You can't even hold conversations with other humans because everything they're saying is always slow-mo to you! I have lots of patience, but even it has limits!...Oh Goddess...I just realized I could never enjoy anime or video games again if I couldn't turn it off. I'd be moving far too fast for the video game to react to me and anime would seem much longer than they regularly are!

As a martial artist, I'd pick super speed/awareness or softness in movement (moving in the direction the opponent is moving in guiding his movements around you/past you to use it against him) but those are just martial arts skills people have learned (obviously no flash speed but about 7-9 punches a second have been recorded)

Problem with that is it's typically a contest of whose mind is stronger, and if you fail to overpower their mind it could backfire.
Joe O'Colit If you can't fight a sleep dart or paralytic poison with sheer will, I don't see why you could fight mind control. It's likely that if direct mind control powers existed you would need an appropriate power of your own to over come them, like super willpower, a version of invulnerability that blocks absolutely everything including whatever psychic waves are made of, or a copy of their psychic powers so you could cancel theirs.

P. S. : you can't move at super speed as well as you imagine. You don't have enough of a grip on the ground, you might simply decapitate yourself when the joint moves too fast for your limb to overcome the air resistance and follow and other stuff like that.

Some of the villains in anime have completely broken powers: The ability to move into the past of whatever you cut (Tsukishima Shuukurou), or the ability to phase yourself and everything on your person into another dimension (Obito Uchiha).

The ability to stop time
I would think that flight could also be pretty useful overall. You could back out of someone's range easily enough, or even go above them where they would have a hard time hitting you, or out of their reach entirely no matter how fast they were. There's also the fact that you could use gravity more effectively by being able to go higher and drop farther for big hits. And I think a really big thing would be that even if you weren't very good at thinking in 3 dimensions, so you still fought on the ground, you wouldn't have to worry about footwork pretty much at all, while also making it harder for your opponent to know what you're going to do.

Train enough, you could teleport midswing and strike em down. Against multiple enemies, you can flow your teleports into follow up swings. Against four: teleport midthrust, throat hit, reverse grip, horizontal slice, teleport, neck slice, reverse grip, down strike, teleport, chest strike, up strike, teleport, chest strike, win.
Alternatively, (based on an OC) you could have a variation of foresight. See their moves before they even happen. Foresight to see how your reaction plays out and see the best outcome.
Could use telekinesis to wield more than one weapon or strengthen/change direction of your attacks, too.
