Nice process Mike, cityscapes can be so tricky but at this point you know your craft so well you can solve anything. Love the format too...square paintings are underrated.

Thanks, Martin! I think squares work really well for cityscapes.

THAT WAS A GREAT DEMO! I learned so much about ‘suggesting’ rather than adding too much detail. Also, with the shadow pattern established I could see how it informed your composition. Really super. Thank you!

Love the "real-time" demonstration. So helpful to aspiring painters to hear and see your strategies and techniques play out as they happen. Especially enjoy your cityscapes. Love how you're able to convey cars, streets and buildings in such an impressionistic manner, yet at a distance the renderings appear almost photo realistic. Thanks for sharing!

What a treat - a real time cityscape
So cool to watch this magic take shape
Looking for shapes and checking for position
Transparent darks- it’s about the composition
Goal of interesting brushwork and keeping it loose
Use power of suggestion; straightedge eschews
To stay out of trouble he’s “a one brush painter”
“It’s not fun if you’re freaking out” - no debater
“Value more important than colors” in these situations
I’m glad you can talk while painting, don’t need equations
Go to Patreon, there’s more to see
    More chamberlainpaintings, more mc
    😅😁
W O. W - this is so impressive. There are a lot of classic lines in this one like “if it’s the right color, use it”. Amazing what you can do with one brush. Is that an Ultrecht #8 natural bristle? It really is fantastic to be able to watch your process. Thanks for sharing! Peace and love..Suz What ☮️💚

The alchemy was sadly off camera. Went from rather insipid in value to eye catchingly good. Hopperesque light and shadow. Love it!

Michael, why leave out the energy of the street lighting poles and that yellow sign. I feel it would have added so much. Your painting and choices have to be made, tranquility or energy, this time you chose the former. Love your paintings. Love your demos. Very educational. Thank you.

-( michael , 17:29 you the word “”image”” bottom left foreground “”see the eye and eyebrow, adorned with beautiful hair just above”” also you say 17:35 “”we’re after that magic we’re chasing the magic”” and also say 19:44 “”it’s not fun when it’s freaking you out”” , all so beautiful and prophetic words to live by, I love that, I’m still watching)-

I love this - you talking through your process..."If it's the right color use it! Pleeeaassssse! That's ridiculous!" Loved that! Made me smile! Totally agree that suggested strokes are more interesting than photo realism, and using a big brush forces you to stay loose, but it stresses me out! So I need to work on it...just do it over and over and over. Always love watching you paint and listening to you!

    • @chamberlainpaintings
      @chamberlainpaintings  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes, just keep experimenting with a big brush.Tell yourself that you're just experimenting and that the painting doesn't count. You'll be surprised at what happens when you take the pressure off of yourself and just play.

I know that our artwork and styles differ greatly from one another, but your videos never fail to inspire me. I have not been a big enthusiast of oil painting in the past, but largely because of you, that is changing. Another wonderful piece. P.S. I read that W. Turner used to dip thin pieces of wood in his paint and then touch it to the canvas to create the lines of a ships masts.

Michael, I think you’ve brilliantly shown the rise of the hill, the bend in the top where it levels out, street marking with rail lines , love the beauty of this , I look to the windows left, examine possible images in them, they change, , , the descending roof tops to the right, chased by platooned cars below them, umbrella sky meets the ridge across the ocean. The spherical roof, tallest at left , seems to quietly preside. I like this painting, this is a really good one ! ❤️😀👍🏻

I was tickled pink to see this video pop up of you painting the painting I requested and bought from you! So cool!!! It’s made it even more special. Few have seen it yet because of covid restrictions but all that have have admired it. It looks even better in real life than in the video 😋
If you do come to Vancouver sometime as you hoped please feel free to reach out and I’ll help in any way I can as to painting location suggestions etc. and my offer to buy you a burrito still stands LOL. Hope your leg is much improved

Hi Michael, through your vids I have been inspired to take my painting outdoors. Wowa, that is a whole other beast (at least for me)! Super fun, super challenging and makes me feel like a beginner all over... Also makes me appreciate what you are able to produce. Props to you!
Anyhow, I have done my first two plain air paintings and have had just as many accidents transporting my paintings back home. They're no masterpieces, so no harm done but still... how do I transport my wet canvas board paintings home without wrecking my painting?
    Please help.
PS although I have a car, I want to ride my bike to my the locations I paint.

... and 5mins later your vid of 3 years ago pops into my feed. How weird! Ok, so you make board specific size wooden transport containers. Nice. I guess that would work for me too, just have to do most of it by hand.
