13. About painting as a daily job, focus, attention. Sketching in Amsterdam, starting new watercolor

  • On a sunny day I went to Amsterdam for the next houseportrait. I show you two sketches, and I am curious which one the client will choose. Then I start a new watercolor. A cityscape showing Noordeinde in The Hague with the statue of Prince Willem on his horse, in front of the workplace of our king.

    Titus, you're pure poetry! These videos are a balm for sensitive souls - and of course, there are those who will envy you, and their comments are obvious in the thread. I hope you don't feel discouraged by them. We need your atmospheric paintings, your depth and sincerity, on youtube - a wonderful change from the noise and ego. Never doubt yourself. Thank you!

Thank you for allowing the actual studio noises to stay rather than filling the footage with annoying repetitive music like so many people do. Thank you for sharing your talent and thoughts with us. Thank you for showing your brushstrokes in real time and for your excellent editing.

    I really appreciate you being so candid and sharing that art requires a lot of energy. As a beginner I find myself so drained at times, and I've come to realise that creating art requires such presence both mentally and physically, like no other type of work.

    !!!WOW!!! ~ To watch a shadowed street come to life was majestic. I'm more familiar with oils and acrylics - but to see a watercolor being born, I could not take my eyes off of its (your) creativity. Turning the piece upside down to control the drips of color to contain it was brilliant. Seeing what I considered a finished building, then you washed it in dark - certainly the solution to the perfect shadow. Amazing. The perfect galloping horse and horseman - but you blew me away with the dabs of gold/yellow where the sun kissed its parts . . . the touch of the vertical ruler along the arm of the horseman, the way the yellow 'broke' on its swift stroke on the way down the ruler's edge could not have been more perfect. You can't plan that, it was as if the yellow said to you, "This line must be broken" - and with that, the brush hairs separated from the paint to make its own glow. I mean, so perfect. There was an old German artist on public television who did half hours of "The Joy of Painting" with Bill Alexander (you can still see him on TH-cam) I found myself hypnotized after school with his work. Something that stuck with me some 40 years later is he would say, "You have to show dark in order to show light." Must be a painter's 'thing' because you are familiar with that rule. I could go on . . . but at the end of your video you displayed the finished painting (?) with the addition of some people on the street - a very sweet and personal touch. I subscribed to your relaxing and personal channel. The quiet of your workplace is the only way to work. I so enjoyed watching you. The recipient will fall in love with your finished scene . . . so did I.Thank you for your precious time ❤

    • @oneitalia2312
      @oneitalia2312 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TitusMeeuws It was easy to write about what you were painting there because I was captured by your every brush stroke. The magic here - (or in any successful watercolor) - is to pencil it out first. The color never hides the sketch allowing the painter to add, or subtract, whatever color he wants to enhance. Really was interesting to watch a true artist within his craft in real time. (Gotta love TH-cam!) I never take it for granted, I'm a true YT fan. . . and Thank You for your kind words. ((Have you ever read The Book of Titus in The Bible? In it, Paul instructs Titus on his work in Crete. It's not very long, only 3 pages in my Bible. [online too] It's one of my favorite stories in The Bible. If you haven't ever read it, take a look, it's an uplifting inspiring read.) 🌹

    I’m enjoying your videos very much, it’s nice to see a day in the life of an artist - especially a watercolour artist (after my family, watercolour painting is the love of my life❤❤❤). I live in Brisbane, Australia which physically and visually is the exact opposite of The Netherlands and to me your country looks soooo beautiful. Every morning when I go for my early walk I’m always looking to ‘see’ my local landscape and imagine how I would paint it and I’m seeing different things in the same landscape every day… Cheers!

I have a bunches of paintings, drawings of nothing but my right hand the instrument was taken away from me for 3 long months & then the rehabilitation too. I understand what you mean about it changing the way you see - If I am painting a lot I break everything I see into geometric forms and become hypersensitive to colour and value, normally the brain is lazy it just provides the surface information you need for survival, the best way I can describe it is instead of a completed film it is more like watching a 3D animation being made, in real time, with all the grid lines and colour information. Sometimes I see construction or movement lines as if they are solid objects. Even my dreams are the same.
    I would like to make a living as a painter but I am not disciplined enough, I work for a month 12 hours every day and produce 30 paintings, then I get burned out and exhausted, and nothing for three months or I start doing something random like pottery. Also I am terrible at asking for money I tend to give them away. I make income from gardening and garden design instead it is less stressful and if I need to suddenly vanish to paint I can do that.

    Ah that was nice to watch I got right into a flow state just watching you paint, especially while you did those final highlights at the end!

    কী আঁকলে গুরু। প্রথমে ভাবলাম এত সুন্দর স্কেচ করা ছবিটার বারোটা বাজাচ্ছ। পরে দেখলাম ফুল ফোটালে। জিওহ্।❤️

    Love to watch the colors blend across the paper. The beauty of the mixture is magical. I love to play with different types of art from photography to painting, oil pastels, ect.... Have you ever used watercolor pencils? If you have what are your thoughts on them. Thank you for sharing your time and work with us. One of my favorite things to do is look at someone's artwork and wonder what they were thinking in the moment.

      Thank you! No, I never tried any watercolor pencils. I use a lot of water and let it do some work. I am not sure if that’s possible with watercolor pencils ?
