I grew up absolutely loving the sport and was very driven and I've gotten to meet some of the best to ever lace up flats and spikes. Being much older though now, it's perfectly clear the staggering difference in drive that these people have in countries like Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda because they HAVE to win. Their livelihood literally depends on it. As the gentlemen said perfectly, people over there HAVE to win whereas we in the west simply WANT to win. These people have a drive to succeed in this sport that quite honestly humbles me and puts any sort of drive I thought I have to shame. Kudos to all those that dare to follow this path and even try to make it. Hopefully they can find more opportunity down the road 🙏🏼
This is a great documentary. Perhaps very few composed in Ethiopia. This young boys and girls will tell you thier main thier inspirations are the pioners that of Abebe and Mamo.
It’s depressing to think of the inevitable crushing of the overwhelming majority of runners’ dreams because elite-level talent is innate and very rare but necessary to make it big in the world stage, not just dedicated hard work alone. Just the nature of nature’s randomness.
Colin Young says talent is the most important factor and Kip Keyno says is 3/4 mental...I guess it depends on how you define talent but unless you have focus, discipline, motivation, willingness to suffer, and a good environment to train, talent wont do you much good..

The guy that sales "talent is the #1 factor" is quite ignorant, go read some bios and get out of this myth, his example about the 18 y/o being world champion, he probably didn't reseach much about what that guy was doing BEFORE he was 18.
He is right. Nowadays people sell the idea that with hardwork you can get anything in life, but it's not true. In sports, if your you are not born for that, you will never achieve something at maximun level in a competition. I explain my self, if my VO2 max is 40 ml/kg/min is impossible for me to win or break a world record in a marathon at the maximum level. Yeah, I can compete and finish the marathon, but I have zero chances to win.
Mame Redi Because my Amharic is too bad. Mastu (the female runner) is speaking in Amharic and that was already difficult enough. I would have liked to have more Amharic, that’s why I still put an Amharic title. Amharinya betam astchegari kankoa 😉
Great hardworking people beautiful Ethiopia🇪🇹
Haile Gebre Selassie said it right. One must pay the dues to succeed. Dreaming is free.

Still passing by. Inside me is the time I played with pebbles. Throwing in the air--collecting in the palm and sometimes back of the palm.
Hard work will be rewarded. Reap what is sow.

Distance runners are not properly rewarded like people in other competitive sports
True. Ask the wrestlers about that.
@@anklepick9524 yeah right. They can just step on the ring and walk off, make some "drama" and get thousands or even a million for one fight lol
@@BuggatiWeryon I'm obviously talking about olympic wrestling. The hardest sport out there. I don't know what you are talking about. WWE? Pfff
@@anklepick9524 calm down, it wasnt obvious to me. Yes I thought WWE

Your uncle is a wise man. Studying is by far the best way to come out of poverty. Running is nice but surely not the best way to make money.
If you're good enough running is a great way to make money.
Education is the only way out of poverty.
not in africa my friend we have even studied medicine and still poor
That's a first world perspective. These are some of the most educated individuals you'll ever meet, but yet many still live in poverty.
@@professordfamily4551 I live in Africa
@@nazorineulysse322 I am African. I live in Africa. The only reach chance to escape poverty is with education. That is better than nothing.
how to become the coach without running experience...this is fun....lol

It's a combination of hard work and talent.

Why not speaking Ethiopian language Amharic
Mame Redi Because my Amharic is too bad. Mastu (the female runner) is speaking in Amharic and that was already difficult enough. I would have liked to have more Amharic, that’s why I still put an Amharic title.

Amharic is not only language spoken in Ethiopia, There Tribes and people who even don't know they are in Ethiopia!
