Idc what you post Alex, we’re gonna watch because you’ve done something extraordinary - given the quiet and insignificant in the world of film a voice. Im in film school right now, and let’s just say that it’s a terrifying experience everyday hearing about how little chance there is that we will go on to be the creative minds of something special, and you give me hope man
I come back to pre-disney MCU from time to time and am surprised at how tangible it feels, especially Iron Man. I am hopeful that blockbuster movies will have that same level of gravity and artistry again.
Disney is the MCU though. Granted Iron Man 1 and The Incredibke Hulk were released before Disney took ownership theyve been in charge of Marvel since about 2010. Majority of MCU is Disney and likely your favorite MCU film is by Disney as well
@@Comicbroe405MCU has very much sucked for years. Haven’t made a genre defining movie since the first Avengers movie. Haven’t taken an actual risk since the first Guardians. Haven’t pushed the envelope since Winter Soldier. Haven’t had a great movie stand on its own merits since…Iron Man 1, before Disney owned it.
@@bikramarora1819how is Disney being the MCU a bad thing? Are the only two films in the MCU you think are good Iron Man 1 and The Incredible Hulk? Its okay if they are but those are the only none Disney MCU films. Guardians of the Galaxy 1 was more of a Disney product than a James Gunn product. Guardians 3 was the most James Gunn was James Gun with his trilogy. Also, The Winter Soldier basically boils down to mindless visuals yet you claim its one of their best. Phase 1 before disney has the most hollow and soulless storytelling in the MCU to me. And thats okay. I still like them but i get no substance from them, no meaning no themes, that doesnt mean i cant or havent enjoyed those films but they fall flat because they dont have as much depth as the later MCU projects do to me
There have been so many great hero films but when one model dominates the industry we’re screwed. I wish we could all afford to see a film every week in the cinema
(Sorry for my bad English) As someone who grown up watching Spider-Man, Batman and Ironman I can completely relate to what you are saying. I’m now older and started getting interested in things like cinema and camera work. I also watched many interviews from Scorsese and Kubrick and now I also wanna do something like that in the future. Your video really is a masterpiece and I hop it gets the attention it’s deserves.
Here is the thing that I always have with your videos. Every time I’m watching one of them I am getting a real motivation to get my lazy ass up and do what I truly like-drawing and painting. Thanks man, you know how to put right words in right order. Wish you the best!
Marvel films are so much loved not because of their superhero-ness, that's like a dessert, but the main course is the emotional journey that we go on with the characters that are so different from each other over the course of serveral epic enthralling movies and TV shows. Just finished Loki, and seeing how his arc turned from being a "loser" and "God of Mischief" into being the one fulfilling his "glorious purpose" and the "God of Time" was so moving and satisfying.
Why is it every time I see Jason footage, I want to pick up my blackmagic and shoot something? I always ask myself “what am I doing, I should be making something” It looks great and I’m really hyped to see it
Wow this really brought a tear to my eye. As an artist, I really appreciate what you had to say. Thank you for this. No matter what shape your video essays take, I’ll always be watching your channel. The heart you have when you talk about the things you love is inspiring.
The problem has never been comic books, no one has ever made these complaints about oldboy, or edge of tomorrow, or any other adaptation made because the story spoke to an artist who wanted to tell it again with their voice. The problem is and has always been when movies are corporatized and released as just more content
Exactly that! I assume that most people won't even know that movies such as Blueberry, Bullet to the Head, Ghost World, A History of Violence, Ichi the Killer, Oldboy, Polar, Polina, RED, Road to Perdition, Snowpiercer, Speed Racer, Tamara Drewe are comics adaptations.
The passion in your voice is always so refreshing and engaging that no matter of the movies you talk about, there will be a strong fan base behind it to support you. Keep on creating.
You know it’s funny, one of my film professors actually gave us an example on why he doesn’t like mcu films and the criticisms are completely valid. We’ve learned so many things and so many of the elements we have learned are just never shown in MCU films.
I don’t know how many people will agree with me, but seeing a wider variety of movies being talked about is something I would kill for. Of course I’d stick around for that, my entire TH-cam feed is filled with video essayists talking about movies so I can constantly learn more, even when it’s not a marvel movie, even when the movie is something I don’t recognize. If you move on to non-marvel stuff, I can guarantee I’ll stay.
I'm always happy whenever I see HiTopFilms upload, there's just something about his content which brings a smile to my face. probably the only channel I can't get enough of on this platform
It is his honest enthusiasm for the art form and for artists' passions as well as for art itself and for empathy with the human condition - all of that combined into a good faith, constructively critical approach to art analysis, art interpretation and art appreciation. HiTop just gives us a ball of positive artsy energy, wrapped in Alex's juicy voice. 🎉❤
When I found this channel, I was deep into my marvel movie obsession era, but once I stopped watching marvel movies and youtubers whose channels were surrounded around them, ur channel was still one I kept coming back to, even tho im not that passinate about movies, I still find myself coming back to this channel, There is something so beutiful about a person sharing their love for something they are so passionate about and even though I cant say anything about the algorithm or other viewers if u changed movie topics, what I know is that I will be here to watch the next maserpiece of a video u release tldr: amazing video
I don't like super hero movies, BUT my god I think those comments of Scorsese are wrong about cinema... the guy is tragic about the future at the same time is condescending to that audices, he acting like an as$hole. And you're too dumb to realize he is calling you an uncultured idiot for enjoying any of those movies...
This is so spot on. The problem isn't the superhero movies. The problem is the homogeneous nature of these movies. The problem is the lack of voice, the lack of a REASON for the story.
I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING IN THIS VIDEO! Superhero movies should be the definitive way to showcase art, feeling, life truths and everything that cinema stood for, not content that you can just consume and forget about it. I fear where our culture will be when masters like Scorsese and so many others pass away....it's scary man.
You’re one of my favorite Yourubers. Not just because you talk about comic book characters nor talking about cinema, it’s passion you have for art. I hear it in your voice and see the effort in your videos. Keep up the good work and continue pushing your spark. We’ll be here for that. More importantly, new people would be interested in listening/watching too.
Don't be afraid to talk on other movies, beyond superheroes, on your channel, Alex! I am not here to listen to you because of these films franchise, but to listen to your artistic voice and your enthusiasm for movie art and art in general. And I refuse to believe that I am the only one. You, and your sense of art is what makes this channel stand out from all the others on superhero flicks. I am looking forward to you engaging with movies from other genres with the same level of enthusiasm, thought, empathy with characters, and artistic passion. Go for it, Alex, I know it will be beautiful - and fresh! As always: Your videos are much appreciated.
Glad that’s there’s more people who have a large connection with comics also agree with marty’s statements cause it’s so sad seeing an industry where the mind of a director is not wanted
Theres a movie theatre in the city near me and i absolutely love going there cause they show indie films that i can watch on the big screen; they speak to me and open my eyes to the world a little bit more. Passion over payouts, any day.
I would absolutely love to see you talk about other films. I watch your content because I enjoy hearing your opinion and I enjoy your rhetoric. Regardless if it's about a web-swinger or a Dark Knight or about an obscure indie film that is not being discussed nearly enough, I think people will still watch because of you. I would love to see you branch out. Make the content you want to make. Be yourself. Thanks for the great content. I am excited to see what you come up with for the future of this channel.
One of your best Alex. I’ll still be here to listen to anything you have to speak on, because I know you care. I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling that, because it comes across so effortlessly in your scripts, in your editing, in your voice. You have a unique voice. Never give that up, especially out of fear.
Incredible work. I’ll always be a supporter of HiTop Films. Once Jason is complete, I encourage you to talk about films and shows YOU love. YOU are the reason why we’re here, not superheroes.
Alex I love your videos. You're options are well stated and reinforced as such. You could speak on any movie or topic, followed with those same passion I would absolutely watch. You are one of the few channels that youtube always puts in my feed when you have a new video.
1:45! You found the exact words I couldn't even eloquently say. In such a long interview that covered so much like Scorsese's films, personal struggles, his preservation work, and so much more -- the fact that one little section about marvel is all anyone is talking about is a travesty as well as a testament to Scorsese's point.
And let's not forget his greatest contribution to cinema: playing Sykes in Shark Tale! Nah, but for role tho he's a great filmmaker and I love him in that movie
Really appreciate watching this. I’m working on my first short film as a senior in film school. That spark and fear about creating really resonated with me especially as I’m throwing myself into the deep with this project. Thank you!
I loved this. And, while I might not be representative of the rest of your audience, I would love to see more videos from you that aren't about superhero movies. You're funny and insightful and passionate and help me consider new ideas about movies I've seen. Probably most notably, you gave me a whole new apprecaition for Batman Forever (a childhood favorite of mine). Keep up the great work.
homie. i could watch you rank your favorite cereals in extremely descriptive detail for hours. whatever you put out is art, don’t think we won’t watch. super pumped for the jason flick too!
This has to be one of the best videos I have ever seen. I was expecting a video telling the story of Marty’s hate for Marvel movies, but I got something much more. Instead a video about media, and why we love what is considered to be normal and not. Phenomenal video.
You’ve become my favorite youtube chanel… Don’t stop creating, keep going, keep expanding, keep risking… at least i’ll be here getting super inspired ;)
I think this is a very well made video. I love the little journey showcasing what Scorcese is about before using that for perspective alongside his MCU quotes. But, I always worry that people aren't critical enough of Scorcese's work, and that then leads to people who do enjoy a more casual, action flick, struggling to enjoy his movies because he's this almighty, untouchable figure and you HAVE to love his films.
Hitop I know you won't probably see this but thank you. You have been a friend to me. Seeing your work and your passion for it has been nothing but inspiring and has inspired me. I remember being a kid watching your video on Tom Holland's Spider-Man and completely disagreeing with everything you said. But your passion and your perserverance through all your struggles is just amazing and I am more than happy to call myself a fan. You have taught me the importance of vision in storytelling and seeing things through new perspectives. I love you man and cant wait to see what you do next. I watched your videos through addictions, heartbreaks, family tragedies, and depression but you always made me feel so much better. You've encouraged me to start working on art of my own. And if you ever see a nuclear fallout book somewhere called Quarters just remember that you helped bring me up when I was down.
I'm study film at a University right now, and it is filled with a lot of aspiring filmmaker's. Not sure if I am one of them yet. I always thought I was the weird guy who liked old under the raider films from De Palma and Scorsese, and everyone else just wants to grow up to star or direct a superhero movie. Yeah there is one student who's whole pitch was a "deconstruction" Batman movie where Batmen just kills criminals. But there are a whole lot of aspiring film geeks today who's inspirations come from everywhere outside of superhero and genre films.
Your voice alone is the reason I keep watching your content Alex. Agree to disagree to some topics, regardless of that, idc. Your voice is soothing and you should (and I pray that you got to) do more voice over/narrating or heck even audiobooks. Stay great my dude!
Thanks, you've really put into words some of the thoughts I've been having. I grew up loving superhero movies, but now they feel soulless. I miss that creative spark and hope it'll come back.
Thank you for such beautiful content. I firmly believe if a movie moves you to your core, makes you see things in a new light, it definitely is Cinema irrespective of the genre.
At this point, i would have seen a video of you talking about a plate that made you cry. Dude, your videos are the most well EMOTIONALLY edited that i EVER seen in the whole TH-cam. I cried at the Richard Donner's Superman video that you made and i don't even have English as my primary language. You and your channel have a LARGE potential of making about not only Super-Heroes movies or about your Movies. It can be about Art, and how it touched you. Most of us, is still going to watch your channel , because Love And Passion is contagious. Keep going, man. Take a Leap of Faith.
3:00 As much as I hate to admit it, but he's right. I've talked to literal 19 to 20 somethings who say they don't really like movies, and when they watch them it's only MCU. No joke.
When Scorsese said superhero movies weren’t cinema, I was upset because I felt like he was missing the point, and it seemed like he was just biased due to his thoughts on Joker. But this video made me realize why he thinks that, and why it matters so much. Great video
The things you’ve had to say, that I’ve been watching and getting joy from these past few years, had so little to do with the superheroes. You talked about heart, and vision, and trauma, and love and had some REALLY worthwhile observations. To me, that’s what makes a great artist. Someone with a LOT going on upstairs and the courage the share it. Very excited for your Jason Todd picture and I’m excited for more of what you have to say here. We’re watching, man.
I watched your video earlier today but came back to get the name of the GQ article. Your words on Martin struck a chord with me because Sam Raimi is my punk when it comes to comics because he was a nobody before Evil Dead and now he has a dream gig under his belt which was making a Dr Strange movie in Multiverse of Madness. Alex keep up the great work.
I went in blind to this video. It just popped out and my man this video just makes you feel and this score you’re playing behind us perfect. Idk I just like hearing videos with great music behind them
Much as I love movies, TV shows, or video games, my favourite medium has always been comics. And your comment at the end about finding other work through superhero movies first spoke to me. I'm in my 40s. I started reading comics in the early 90s with The Death of Superman. And for years, I obsessed over the minutiae of DC and Marvel (and Image to a lesser extent). After awhile, though, I got tired of the meaningless events or shock moments that were undone less than a year later. I started branching out. First to smaller titles like James Robinson's Starman. But then I started checking out non-DC or Marvel comics like Hellboy. Or Vertigo comics like Sandman or Preacher. I checked out other random comics that Wizard magazine would mention or praise. Then I read the best advice when it came to reading comics: "Follow creators, not characters." I discovered Greg Rucka after he wrote parts of Batman: No Man's Land. I sought out his other work, like Whiteout and Queen & Country. I discovered his novels. But then through him, I discovered artists he worked with and checked out some of their other work. I expanded and expanded and expanded. I'd pick up random comics because they just looked interesting. I sough out creators with different voices than my own (non-white, non-male, non-cis, non-straight) to see the world from their point of view. These days, I barely read DC or Marvel anymore. I'm too busy reading everything else. Heck, I'm still discovering old comics, like Hal Foster's Prince Valiant. And much like people who put far too much focus on superhero movies today, I feel comic readers think the only world out there is DC or Marvel. Comics aren't a genre, they're a medium, just like movies. It's limiting to focus on just one small part of a much broader world out there and I say that for both film AND comics.
My favourite artists in comics are: Alison Bechdel, Daniel Clowes, Neil Gaiman, Jens Harder (scientific comics!), Fumiyo Kōno, Isabel Kreitz, Nora Krug, Jeph Loeb, Jason Lutes, Marc-Antoine Mathieu (surrealist genius!), Alan Moore, Grant Morrison, Marjane Satrapi (also a good movie director!), Jacques Tardi, Craig Thompson, Chris Ware (his "Jimmy Corrigan" is basically "the great American novel" in comics form). If there is but one amongst them you have not checked out yet, please do yourself a favour and check them out next.
I've been thinking about writing my only comics for a while and I think you helped me realize why. I'm tired of feeling compromised and hurt by marvel and dc. It's time for me to write the superheroes I grew up in a new and true light. Thanks again and may God bless you and your family.
As someone who grew up a superhero comic book fan I’d say I was more excited and hyped for Barbie than anything Marvel/DC related because Greta Gerwig’s filmography is astonishing, and it felt refreshing seeing a big budget film praised for its artistry and not the toy brand
I think we're at a point now, where most all of entertainment has become solely focused on squeezing as much cash out of a customer. Not just in film either, I see it in all areas of entertainment. It's coming to the point where these mediums rely on individual creators, many times with small budgets, to keep the art alive
@@neutral_narr maybe so, but not nearly as bad as film and gaming. At least with anime there's still plenty of good stuff to look forward too, and you don't immediately expect every title launch to be a disappointment
@@givemepen0There's honestly very little good manga and anime imo, but that may just be my personal leniency towards seinen. Most of the Japanese 2D entertainment industry consists of shonen, and i'm just not a big fan of it at all (only ones i actually like are Chainsaw Man and Death Note). I much prefer stuff like Vagabond, Cowboy Bebop, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Black Lagoon and Berserk.
@@FrancisCastiglione well I guess I’ve been really thinking of Bocchi The Rock, which I normally don’t watch “cute girls doing cute things”, but BTR just hits DIFFERENT. Best anime I’ve seen in a long time But I mean I guess if you’re just looking at seinen, yeah there hasn’t been a whole lot of solid entries But I mean stuff like Vinland saga S2 was pretty great imo
I've never really taken the chance to watch his films, but that last little blurb is relatable. I don't do film, I write, and I try to encourage everyone to do so. It doesn't matter if it's good. If it's yours, that's all that matters. You can always go back to make it better later.
You should watch some of his films at one point, I consider the ones with DiCaprio as a good start, the most accesible and succesful ones, most people loves Leo (my favorite is The Aviator), and he's part of the reason of why those films were succesful, but much more, his films with De Niro are gems too, a film that I always will recommend is "Hugo", set in Paris at the end of XIX century, when cinema was created, a beutiful homage to films and the pioneer of film George Melies, it's a even a good movie to watch with family, ,ight be his most childish/family friendly film, but that's why it's one of my favorites and inspiring.
I highly recommend three movies by Marty, all deal in some form or other with loneliness, alienation, an aspiration to make a difference, problems of connecting with others, neglect and hurt, fear of insignificance, delusions of grandeur, blurred reality, some sort of frenzy. They are: "The King of Comedy", "Taxi Driver", "Bringing Out the Dead".
You deserve a larger audience, and I think getting away from superheroes could help with that. I’d love to know your takes on just other shows or movies because if I haven’t seen it, I’ll watch it then watch the video. Great vid
Just for the record: You’re one of the only channels that I will watch whatever you make. Talk about whatever you want in the future. You will always have at least 1 view. Mine.
One of the greatest moments at the Oscars is when Martin lost the best director award and still got a standing ovation after the winner shouted him out
I’m a big marvel fan but I actually agree with Martin on the films thing. I feel like rims and movies are two different things. Movies are just fun where as films try to illicit a reaction. Personally I prefer the former.
This really spoke to me HiTop, thank you again for the amazing video, and no matter what video you make I'll watch it. Your videos speak to me, and they are told in such a personal way that I don't see anywhere else on TH-cam. So please make anything you want!
I knew you'd have a good take on this. It's so frustrating how everyone seems to intentionally miss the point of Scorsese's comments, reducing them to "marvel bad". That's not what he's saying and pretending it is will only make the problem worse
What’s funny is that the more time goes on, the more Scorsese is right. Disney Marvel is digging its own grave. Meanwhile original films, whether or not it’s popular at the current moment, will ALWAYS be valued above other types of films.
God bless you man! I really really enjoyed this video! To be honest the first time I saw one of your videos was the one about Spider-Man 2 being your favorite superhero movie which is mine too! And along the way I could sense your love for cinema but I wasn't sure. I'm proud of you bro; for taking a chance. This video was the best yet! I hope you make more about real Filmmakers like Marty and sure as hell I'll be watching all of them!❤
He was completely right, he just said it at the wrong time because he knew something we didn’t notice yet. A machine can only produce copies. Yeah James Gunn can put out a banger but he couldn’t control the machine. And in the end he got sick of dealing with it. If Scorsese said that today it would have barely been news.
As a film student this hits pretty close to my heart and brains, tears in my eyes, you've done it again Alex. Plus today I found out that some new bullshit will be approved for next year in my country (Uruguay) that's changing the educational systems, and one of those many things is cutting hours of all the career mayors, such as screenplay intro, production workshop, audiovisual workshop, and therefore giving more hours to math, physics, English, many of my teachers will be thinking of getting different jobs and figuring out what they're going to do with their lives, we're talking 37 hours weekly reduced to 10 hours, some of my teachers barely make living these days and now next year after elections they will be having a "limosna" hand out salaries, + the writers strike and everything going on just makes me sad, it is a real horror film, in the midst of all this madness, videos like this turn a light in my head, at least I can see a way forward, and the road I'm in.
I don't usually comment and i doubt you're going to read this but dude, you got me into filmmaking and movies. Your batman does not kill video made me wanna write and that started my love for storytelling, movies and even music and cause of you, I'm in film school rn hoping to be as good and passionate as you are. Honeslty, fuck the views. Make what YOU wanna make. I would LOVE to see you make full, in depth videos on independent films that no one's heard of or series that are the new masterpieces. Your superhero videos are great but I know you have so much more to say when it comes to the world of cinema. And I'm sure that at the start, the views will be down but if you keep it up, there will be a new and larger audience awaiting for your new videos and this time, it wont be some mcu spider-man rant. I know I will be. Keep it up man, you're a big inspiration to me and all i wanna see is the shit that makes you who you are !!! ❤❤❤ Also, I can't wait for the Jason Todd film !
Hey HiTop, I know I’m late to the video, but I just wanna say how you inspired me as a creator. You’ve made me fall deeper in love with film, while pushing me to make my own, and I just wanna say, thank you. You’re the best. ❤
This video really resonated with me. Despite some of the opinions you make that I completely disagree with, this is one of those videos I am really happy you created. It is a difficult endeavor to create, superheroes will always be a part of my life. Hell, if not for The Batman, I wouldn't have gotten into film, it changed me, I have never seen a movie so... In control. No corporate meddling for the sake of toys, no after credits establishing 10 other sequels, just a pure batman film, pure art to me. Because of that, one day I want to create something as thought provoking as that, one day I aspire to be one of the greats such as Scorsese, this video really inspired me, man. Thank you.
The Dark Knight movie kinda ended batman for me. Like mentally for me it is the best superhero movie like ever so where do you go from there? You can do reboots and they did one but the thing I noticed is that usually superhero movie after delivering one good original movie gets into the sequel which provides diminishing returns. They retouch the beats of the first movie basically trying to recreate the magic of first one. These movies are now starting to feel like like television sitcoms. Like when you see Seinfeld or Friends if you watched one episode you basically watched the whole show and these movies feel that way. Being circular is fine for sitcoms as they come up with new episodes every weekend plus nobody is leaving their homes for a sitcom, so the bar of quality is lower. But when people are expected to go out and pay for movie tickets for sitcom quality that is a provlem. The thing with Marty is that he is always pushing, always trying to reinvent himself so he is always telling new stories. Always taking risks. Even his latest film about the native american murders is a massive risk. Something that superhero movies now avoid.
1000% agrees with you and Scorsese, he was 100% right, hate how always the internet have to twist these things for views, and more so than at the time he said it, now feels a lot more relevant, how corporate some of the franchises films start becoming, with a very few exceptions, but I think people are already tired of super heroes, thank god the 3 most successful films this year aren't even comic book adaptations, but still the fear of Martin remains..........even if is not super heroes, who stop this corporate hats to do the same to.....game adaptations, toys adaptations, or any big IP adaptation which sadly also have become the thing....yes this year and last year the 3 biggest weren't super heroes....but still are part of a FRANCHISE , hell the one who have the most risks and was less of a big franchise was the SEQUEL of the highest grossing film of all time, and this year is a TOY film, so now more than ever is harder for anything be created that is all fully original that get that much attention...if we go by that you have to go all the way back to 1998 to see a year in which the top 2 where actually original stories (Armageddon and Saving Private Ryan) to see a year in box office that wasn't dominated by well know IPS or sequels, hell 98 is the year the biggest sequel in that entire list was Lethal Weapon 4, that year have Shakespeare in Love, Mulan, Saving Private Ryan, There's Something About Mary as some of the biggest box office attractions, films that today will do SHIT with the way audience are, and it sucks, Cinema was all about innovate, inspire, entertain, let the VISION of someone who knows what he is doing behind the camera or at least pretend to, very well XD and is having fun making his dream comes true....I'm a comicbook artist man and is kinda the same, I live in DR and when ever we are in a convention if you toss a Spiderman Comic side by side one we did that is a original story created by us, inspired by our own myths and culture, GUESS WHICH ONE WILL SELL FIRST? The live of the artist is HARD man, but is not about who sell more....I more happy when I sell 1 book and that person comeback to me with an opinion about that book...........even if is a BAD ONE, the fact he /she / Them care to go back and tell me what he thought about my work is something special now, I used to be in arms when was a bad critique (not going to lie I still does) but I value that more now than ever, knowing how hard it is to create something and that something need to technically fight for it's existence against all these well established stories, but is fun when something succeed, or at least give you the reasons to keep going, so I completely understand what Martin said was 100% true to all of us no matter if is CINEMA, GAMES, COMICS, BOOKS, TV SHOWS, MUSIC, is all the same one way or the other.
Thank you Alex. For making more art for us all to watch and to hear. I’m always going to feel inspired to work harder myself whenever I sit down and watch your content. I hope you’re doing well too mate, all the best and I hope you have a good weekend. I look forward to your next video! Keep working hard and remember dreams are always alive 😁
Don't be afraid to branch out in your reviews of media, Alex. I feel like your audience has grown to love and respect your perspective because of it's richness in sincerity about the value of characters and intentional components in good storytelling - not just because they're comic book characters. Please do The Bear and keep going! We'll be watching 🙂
As always I love how passionate you are! Definitely gonna look into some of the films you mentioned in here, been meaning to expand my horizons for awhile now! Anyways can't wait to see what your cooking with JASON!
What I love about this video is that you weren't one sided you had an understanding to both sides which I think you did a great and your dreams of movie making comes true
He’s was 100% one sided he was gagging on the old fossil’s cock . No comics book movie aren’t some evil that’ll snuff out other movies that is just fucking doomer trying to sound different talk. They all can exist together blame the studios and greedy execs for not giving equal opportunities and buying out theaters. They can all coexist together
I'm glad you're talking about other aspects of that interview. Like you, I also obviously like a lot of superhero stuff, but there's always a need for balance and variety in storytelling. So there needs to be more options for us all in genre and in tone. As someone who's an illustrator and animator, one who does work on superhero stuff, as well as anime inspired work. I still want to see a wide array of animation and ideas that come from people who care about what they make. Not just tech bros and company suits that want to reduce art into half baked sludge with no artistic vision nor any respect to the people who make art, as so much of these modern issues stem from rushing things out, abusing workers or stealing the work of others to just generate into some computer-made uncanny abomination. It's just annoying to see people not tell the difference between good art or even rookie art and compare it to the poorly made copies.
Thank you Alex. Ever since your video on Quantamania I was actually hoping you would talk more about indie/original films because I for one have gotten tired of Marvel/DC and Star Wars-related content. It would be a breath of fresh air if you talked about The Wonder, Pearl, Triangle of Sadness, The Menu, Brother, Kill Boksoon, Waves, Sound of Metal, Shiva Baby, Decision to Leave, Blinspotting (Movie & TV Series), Rami (TV series), Heels (TV series). There’s just so much more I could list but don’t have the time, but no seriously, watch The Bear it is ridiculously inspiring!

Hi top cooked in this video
This guy is literally laughable...
Idc what you post Alex, we’re gonna watch because you’ve done something extraordinary - given the quiet and insignificant in the world of film a voice. Im in film school right now, and let’s just say that it’s a terrifying experience everyday hearing about how little chance there is that we will go on to be the creative minds of something special, and you give me hope man
You can do it. You just have to be crazy enough to try.
Majority of MCU is Disney and likely your favorite MCU film is by Disney as well
@@Reelfilms1998Disney being the MCU isn’t a good thing. In fact, what point does that even make? Disney sucks and has for years. So does the MCU.
@@bikramarora1819 You're completely misunderstanding his point. And MCU hasn't sucked "for years" there have just been a lot more duds recently.
I still like them but i get no substance from them, no meaning no themes, that doesnt mean i cant or havent enjoyed those films but they fall flat because they dont have as much depth as the later MCU projects do to me
It's touching to me how passionate you are about cinema. I look forward to every upload you make.
Your video really is a masterpiece and I hop it gets the attention it’s deserves.
lol it ok
Here is the thing that I always have with your videos. Every time I’m watching one of them I am getting a real motivation to get my lazy ass up and do what I truly like-drawing and painting. Thanks man, you know how to put right words in right order. Wish you the best!
Same!
I always ask myself “what am I doing, I should be making something”
It looks great and I’m really hyped to see it
Wow this really brought a tear to my eye.
Scorcese was right!
When I found this channel, I was deep into my marvel movie obsession era, but once I stopped watching marvel movies and youtubers whose channels were surrounded around them, ur channel was still one I kept coming back to, even tho im not that passinate about movies, I still find myself coming back to this channel, There is something so beutiful about a person sharing their love for something they are so passionate about and even though I cant say anything about the algorithm or other viewers if u changed movie topics, what I know is that I will be here to watch the next maserpiece of a video u release
tldr: amazing video
Thank you so much for the kind words. I would not be here without your support.
@@PEDROGARCIA-qj3gr ok? I dont know how to respond here, can u give me examples of how he has called his audience idiots?
Alex, I'll always watch your videos. Keep making videos like this, please!
Cause there’s a huge difference between Marvel fans and MCU fans. Marvel fans sometimes get sick of MCU fans bullshit.
Comics stay in comics. Once it comes to cinema, it should be cinema
Alex, your videos are unbelievable and very inspiring to me. I'll never stop watching them.
I love Scorsese. As I grow as an artist I love him more. Raging Bull makes me cry whenever I think of it. His films raised me. He’s my goat.
Really appreciate watching this. I’m working on my first short film as a senior in film school. That spark and fear about creating really resonated with me especially as I’m throwing myself into the deep with this project. Thank you!
this was one of my favorite videos of yours in a while
I love when you talk about different stuff like movie genres, directors, ect because you seem so excited and passionate it’s infectious
You’ve become my favorite youtube chanel… Don’t stop creating, keep going, keep expanding, keep risking… at least i’ll be here getting super inspired ;)

glad the algorithm gave me this, you’ve gained a subscriber ❤

Noticed those little clips of Moonlight and maaaaaaaan... I really hope we get a vid of you talking about that masterpiece.
Watching movies blind just knowing the premise and no trailers is such a great experience
At this point, i would have seen a video of you talking about a plate that made you cry.

As much as I hate to admit it, but he's right.
Great video
11:16 this shot of In the Mouth of Madness in this video at this time really made me happy, man. Thanks Alex.
Dude, the way you end these essays. Beautiful work.
Idk I just like hearing videos with great music behind them
I promise you that I'll watch your videos about whatever films you want to talk about. It's always nice to get recommendations.
Then I read the best advice when it came to reading comics:
"Follow creators, not characters." I discovered Greg Rucka after he wrote parts of Batman: No Man's Land.
My favourite artists in comics are:
Alison Bechdel, Daniel Clowes, Neil Gaiman, Jens Harder (scientific comics!), Fumiyo Kōno, Isabel Kreitz, Nora Krug, Jeph Loeb, Jason Lutes, Marc-Antoine Mathieu (surrealist genius!), Alan Moore, Grant Morrison, Marjane Satrapi (also a good movie director!), Jacques Tardi, Craig Thompson, Chris Ware (his "Jimmy Corrigan" is basically "the great American novel" in comics form).
Manga and anime is in a sad state as well
@@neutral_narr maybe so, but not nearly as bad as film and gaming. At least with anime there's still plenty of good stuff to look forward too, and you don't immediately expect every title launch to be a disappointment
@@givemepen0 Yeah but it is getting there
@@givemepen0There's honestly very little good manga and anime imo, but that may just be my personal leniency towards seinen.
Best anime I’ve seen in a long time
But I mean I guess if you’re just looking at seinen, yeah there hasn’t been a whole lot of solid entries
But I mean stuff like Vinland saga S2 was pretty great imo
8:55 That was beautiful and highlights my love for the superhero genre so well

Best video and not because it’s a Marvel critique, it’s a love of cinema intro video to awaken your followers. Hope!
This was a stunning love letter to one of our great artists, and filmmaking in general. Keep up the great work. I am looking forward to "Jason".
So much respect for you (and for Martin Scorsese), Alex! This was a fascinating, well-spoken essay!!! Excellent work and good luck with your film!
I would love to watch videos from you about movies you like/find something in that’s worth talking about
God bless you man!

Hey HiTop, I know I’m late to the video, but I just wanna say how you inspired me as a creator. You’ve made me fall deeper in love with film, while pushing me to make my own, and I just wanna say, thank you. You’re the best. ❤
This was so well crafted
Ironically, my top 2 films are Goodfellas & Spider-Man 2. I can't choose which is #1.
Excellent taste 😏
Thank you Alex. For making more art for us all to watch and to hear. I’m always going to feel inspired to work harder myself whenever I sit down and watch your content. I hope you’re doing well too mate, all the best and I hope you have a good weekend. I look forward to your next video! Keep working hard and remember dreams are always alive 😁
alex, you make art. This video was brilliant. keep going
