Our first drive with the Garrett G25 550. This is the externally gated 0.72 exhaust housing, having swapped from a G25 660 with the same exhaust housing.
Early impressions are good. Can't wait to get it on the dyno at Badger 5 next month!

Dude your A3 is insane I have a humble Seat Toledo 1.8T (AUQ) with stock K03s and planning to upgrade to a BBT K300, who knows what more in the distant future :D Long life to all 1.8T!!!
Really weird request but could you make a video on how it’s spools? I’m looking at putting a g25-550 and cat 3651 cams in my daily and want to see how they spoil on a 1.8t first before I commit to it.

I'm currently on an Emerald K6 Ilya. It's pretty basic but it's done my well for over 5 years now. Looking to change to something a bit more specialised at the end of the year :)

My cliogane at 1,3 bar goes 484 hp and 60 kg of torque with g25-550 .push push
wow I'm busy researching building a meglio with this turbo. At what rpm do you hit the boost threshold and what other supporting engine mods have you added
@@e4superfly with link ECU we can use boost by Gear...0,8 x 1 1 x 2 1,1 X3 etc...with E50 fuel at 1,30 at 6.500 rpm full gass...2 support link 1 for turbo 1 for exhaust manifold..pay attention to EGt temperature
Amazing driving and the car, awesome review! Please give us more thoughts about direct comparison to 660 please :). Do you feel a difference in transient boost/spool compared to 660, or in general, how much different it is?
I'll try to do some more detailed comparison soon. On the road the 550 feels brilliant. You can definitely notice the sharper transient response, and boost threshold is a lot lower. I havn't tuned it fully yet, but it feels great so far. Stay tuned for a dyno vid shortly!

Fantastic car and well done mate (boring not) I'm after the g25-550 in my Q's TT ltr this year I'm sure I will get mot fine .
I do have two questions
1. Insurance who u use?
2. That shift tower is it legal?
I'm after one but won't if it's a red flag I realize a de cat is risky but at least it's hidden 🤫

The A3's insured through Reis, and the shifter is legal. Obviously we don't recommend doing anything that might be questionable, so the A3 runs a cat for road use 👍

thanks mate. Fueling wise we run an uprated intank pump, feeding an 044 inline pump, then FID1000 1000cc injectors, and an AEM progressive water/methanol kit for good measure!
Great video!!!! Thanks for pushing this out! Been thinking of the G25 550 for my 914... The old comp 5356 is just so Lazy...... Where are you reving to and do you feel or see any boost drop off at higher RPM?
hey! I'm revving to 8200 currently. on a fixed duty there is a tiny bit of drop off on the 550 which didnt happen on the 660, but adding about 5% boost duty at the top end holds it nice and flat still, so plenty more in it I feel.
Awesome, sounds good. Are the tututu's quieter than the 660?
They sound pretty similar TBH, although the 550 makes more spooly noises lower down!

hi mate im on b5 380 hybrid, with all the supporting mods for 380. is it wotrh me getting a 550, mani, meth and na cams to replicte this? or will i need ingritron too?

no idea yet, this was just a first drive :) I'll know more when I start mapping it

Is this the best turbo for 1.8T at range of 500hp ?
Sub 500bhp for a road car I'd say so yes. If you want a reliable forever 500bhp and up, or you use the car on track a lot, the 660 is a better bet 👌🏻

the car has a cat fitted for road use :)
Is that the stock gearbox?
it isn't no Marian, it's an 02m 6 speed with Monster performance 3-6th gearset, 3j driveline plated LSD, and a bunch of strengthening mods also.
how much did the geabox mods cost? and i mean all of the mods... >3k?

What engine mounts do you use?
Some home made ones Mike. Drilled and voided OE casings filled with 85a poly resin.
TeamPrawnRacing how are they for cabin vibration? I’ve got some vibratechnics competition mounts the gearbox one keeps moving fear it may snap under stress, I’ve a couple of set of Oe knocking about might give the poly a try.
