Maybe some higher positions, but I imagine the vetting is just being recommended by someone else on staff and that's it. It's pretty much mostly trust based, and you need sign off for your hours worked if you want your free ticket, at least that's how the con I went to worked. Offkai is a pretty young convention. I doubt they have the man hours or money to perform vetting on volunteers. That being said, the most power a volunteer has should just be at most the physical area around them, not guest selection or changes to programming. So if any real sabotaging happened, thats real damning to those particular volunteers. If it's repeat behaviour, then I'd blame offkai itself.
Sadly, it's an accurate microcosm of how things are across weeb media. People who hates the contents and the target audience, but filled with resentment that they don't have the real skills (nor motivation) to get into better paying jobs, so they take it out by seeing what they can get away with co-opting other people's work to cater instead to an imaginary "modern audience".
It might, but it's going to need some radical change and that they won't get support next year is all but guaranteed. Offkai better get in the market for new people to work with, maybe actually get paid employees so they can shove money in their mouths in case any of them start trying to inject their agenda in the event. The ability to be picky when you're employing unpaid volunteers is reserved to few, big events that see schools getting involved (as you can task the school administration to recruit as many students as you like), or you hit a certain age range with the people interested (adults who can refer you to coworkers or family for additional hands, and who have grown enough to know when its a good time to talk politics, when they should just enjoy life).

TBH, I volunteered for Phoenix Comic Con for years. When they decided to replace the volunteers with paid workers, it fell right off a cliff. Nothing better for an event than having people running it who love it so much they are willing to help the event for free. Just getting rid of the problematic staff is not enough. They need to investigate what actually happened, preferably (I want to say that it must be) by a third professional and independent party, they need to get rid of the problematic people that shows up in the report, and they need to implement a plan for future events that adress the problems from this and earlier events. That is the only way to stop offkai from becoming a circlejerk and having sponsors and attendes leave them.
The choice was was actually between a vtuber and the whole event, the whole thing is basically run by volunteers so if they kicked them out they would have no staff to run the event. Which is a problem of theyr own making to begin with.

The problem was the Volunteers waited until effectively the last moment to kick up a storm, when it was too late to get any more volunteers or refund customers and all the work had been divided up between what they thought they had. Off Kai should have stood ground and asked the remaining people to pull up their boot straps(no matter how much it sucked), but chose the "easier" path instead, but this has undoubtedly damaged their reputation, and now these Volunteers also know they can get Off Kai to bend over for them. Which means they'll be asking for more each year after they continue to do so, and people who would have defended them before won't now

As someone who's living in California, I'd say a lot of the rrats are more true than not. We've had a lot of work-related issues where individuals will actively or unintentionally try to sabotage where they work because they don't like a decision that their boss makes. It's even gotten to the point that a lot of businesses won't hire younger people as they don't know proper work etiquette. On my end, I've had to wake interns up because they were asleep on the clock or take them aside to tell them they probably shouldn't be yelling certain things from across the store if customers are in. On my sister's end, her place of work potentially lost a high-profile client, because one of the people on shift started shit-talking them when they thought they left, only to see the client's manager was still standing outside of the store.
Its rough, somewhere a long the way, the fight for workers' rights went from proper wages for proper work, to being able to do whatever the hell you want cuz thats what freedom is supposed to mean. People still aren't getting paid properly and the whole movement is looked upon with ire in light of the examples you've listed above. Professionalism is getting to the point where its not a bare minimum that everyone has when they expect a job, its something that employers have to actively look for now.

It was brought to my attention that there were other issues during events. Former Prism Project member Mako Sameshima had a fade to black moment just as she was doing her introduction on stream, but apparently it didn't fade out in person at the con. This happened right after Ami Amami did her introduction. I saw someone's supposed unedited video recording of and it looks authentic and the person who recorded it is kind of freaking out about it after the fact. Especially with the banner at the bottom still changing while it's faded to black. I'll be keeping my ears out for other reports.

The solution in this case would be to distance those volunteers and hope you can find a replacement, start paying them so you hold power over them instead of the inverse, or shut down your event as it's gone out of your control.
The ability to be picky when you're employing unpaid volunteers is reserved to few, big events that see schools getting involved (as you can task the school administration to recruit as many students as you like), or you hit a certain age range with the people interested (adults who can refer you to coworkers or family for additional hands, and who have grown enough to know when its a good time to talk politics, when they should just enjoy life).

TBH, I volunteered for Phoenix Comic Con for years. When they decided to replace the volunteers with paid workers, it fell right off a cliff.

Just getting rid of the problematic staff is not enough. They need to investigate what actually happened, preferably (I want to say that it must be) by a third professional and independent party, they need to get rid of the problematic people that shows up in the report, and they need to implement a plan for future events that adress the problems from this and earlier events.
That is the only way to stop offkai from becoming a circlejerk and having sponsors and attendes leave them.

The choice was was actually between a vtuber and the whole event, the whole thing is basically run by volunteers so if they kicked them out they would have no staff to run the event. Which is a problem of theyr own making to begin with.

The problem was the Volunteers waited until effectively the last moment to kick up a storm, when it was too late to get any more volunteers or refund customers and all the work had been divided up between what they thought they had. Off Kai should have stood ground and asked the remaining people to pull up their boot straps(no matter how much it sucked), but chose the "easier" path instead, but this has undoubtedly damaged their reputation, and now these Volunteers also know they can get Off Kai to bend over for them. Which means they'll be asking for more each year after they continue to do so, and people who would have defended them before won't now

your biggest financial investors is the biggest red flag a convention could have.
As someone who's living in California, I'd say a lot of the rrats are more true than not. We've had a lot of work-related issues where individuals will actively or unintentionally try to sabotage where they work because they don't like a decision that their boss makes. It's even gotten to the point that a lot of businesses won't hire younger people as they don't know proper work etiquette.
On my end, I've had to wake interns up because they were asleep on the clock or take them aside to tell them they probably shouldn't be yelling certain things from across the store if customers are in. On my sister's end, her place of work potentially lost a high-profile client, because one of the people on shift started shit-talking them when they thought they left, only to see the client's manager was still standing outside of the store.
Its rough, somewhere a long the way, the fight for workers' rights went from proper wages for proper work, to being able to do whatever the hell you want cuz thats what freedom is supposed to mean. People still aren't getting paid properly and the whole movement is looked upon with ire in light of the examples you've listed above.
Professionalism is getting to the point where its not a bare minimum that everyone has when they expect a job, its something that employers have to actively look for now.

Yeah, my dad works with a few corporations and he’s heard multiple complaints about the new generation of workers. Not that they’re necessarily lazy or other stuff, but how very unprofessional they are. Some guy was telling my dad how some guy quit in a fit of rage because a manager came over and pointed out a legitimate mistake they had made and the the guy was mad that they came over to ‘harass’ him about it. I thought it was a bit of a one-sided story, but the more I see the more I believe it’s true. Unfortunately a lot of our generation (I say as a person in their early twenties) is really cooked when it comes to entitlement and morality

Former Prism Project member Mako Sameshima had a fade to black moment just as she was doing her introduction on stream, but apparently it didn't fade out in person at the con. This happened right after Ami Amami did her introduction. I saw someone's supposed unedited video recording of and it looks authentic and the person who recorded it is kind of freaking out about it after the fact. Especially with the banner at the bottom still changing while it's faded to black. I'll be keeping my ears out for other reports.

After that exposed Discord DM, I hope Lysander there has some really good explanations as to how they let someone with very obvious anti-Pippa tweets be a volunteer at a convention that HER COMPANY helped sponsor in a big way. Like, you know PC is gonna be there. You KNOW Pippa is gonna be there. But sure, "vet" Kirsche and let the ANTI stay.

And what did Offkai expect? When you hire five-year-olds who somehow end up in the bodies of adults, of course they'll screw all up just because someone has a different opinion. Also, do not forget the classic technique of such individuals - “Pretend yourself to be a victim at every opportunity". "Blame your “opponents” for what you do yourself.”
The tweets they used to blacklist her were petty. No surprise coming from people that still have strong hatred over Hogwarts. To side with them was so unprofessional.

Should move cons to somewhere less expensive and more centrally located anyway. Socal is a fuckin dump. I'd be more apt to spend money in Dallas or Chicago, hell even Denver.

Phase Connect paid for themselves and other to be there, if this is how they were treated supporting so much of the con, I'd hate to see how they would be treated if they didn't. By volunteers that didn't pay anything to be there.
