      The 2018 Buick Regal GS comes with the same 3.6 L as a Cadillac ats and the Camaro

    I think a major selling point in Buick's favor is the relatively low starting price. At only $25K, that might entice some buyers that might otherwise be looking elsewhere. Of course, a few ticks on the option sheet could easily send the price north of $30K.

    • @eaglefat9398

      thats whats nice about Buick the base model is fairly loaded with the essentials, i got my 16 Regal for 26k with leather seats, back up cam, heated seats, a awesome info/nav system, T2.0 that has more then enough power for most people 259hp/295tq , and a bunch of other stuff im probably taking for granted , other car companies would be cloth seat basic

    • @romanseano
      @romanseano 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eaglefat9398 Well that was then: This model year here, "entry level" ditched leather seats for a very basic cloth, among other amenities that were moved to the options list. At this point, GM de-contented base model Buicks across the entire line. You don't get leather until you move up two levels to "Essence" trim.

  • @palebeachbum
    @palebeachbum 6 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    I love that the sedan is actually a lift back. Much more practical. I also love the availability of a wagon. What I dislike is that the wagon is only available with AWD and a raised stance. It's basically Buick's answer to the Subaru Outback. I'd prefer the wagon with FWD and the sedan's ride height. I suppose Americans wouldn't buy it though because it would actually be a station wagon and marketed as such.

    • @lospolloshermanos2692
      @lospolloshermanos2692 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      palebeachbum who would prefer front wheel drive over AWD??? Lol I see no benefit! I would understand a RWD over a AWD for more tire burning drifting!

    • @palebeachbum
      @palebeachbum 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Los Pollos Hermanos we're talking about a midsize Buick, not a Camaro. AWD is overkill where I live. Warm weather all year. FWD will return slightly better fuel economy (along with the lower ride height), and no doubt the FWD Regal will have less to go wrong in the long run.

    • @palebeachbum
      @palebeachbum 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Peter Briganti Yep, that's just it. I live in FL. I don't need AWD I resent being forced to pay for it if I want the car. Same reason I haven't and won't buy a Subaru, even though I really like them.

    I bought one(2018 sportback) last July, a preferred II model in Rioja
    Red.. it is a beautiful car.overall i am quite satisfied with it. great
    cargo room, spacious back seat area and excellent comfort up front. MPG
    is great even on low octane grade ( usually 28-30)but it does superior
    on Premium fuel adding a good 3 MPG.I just achieved 34 MPG on premium
    last week.keep in mind this car fundamentally is also a Kia Stinger, VW
    Arteon and Chevy Malibu and all these models have subtle differences,
    i.e. the Stinger is rear wheel drive.I have noticed that the stock
    continental tires actually perform a bit better MPG wise when they are
    lower than the 35 psi recommended, thus i have kept mine nitro filled at
    about 31 psi. so with that said, the onboard air compressor is a wasted
    item IMO.**Things i wish the car had? a rear windshield wiper.the
    third/hatch brakelight creates a 2 foot area which the back windshield
    viability is almost always compromised even with @t
    prep it well with copious amounts of rain-x etc... molded cupholders in
    door pockets as the 3 in center console are nuts/lackluster if you get a
    drink larger than 24 ozs ...i also wish the parking assist had side
    cameras. the car is quite wide so i often reposition in parking spaces a
    couple times- to stay in lines. parking spots are getting narrower it
    seems.Brakes seem iffy or spongy at periodically. accessories that are a
    must no matter what trim you buy is mudflaps. they sell them separately
    or in the weather package. the rear cargo liner with "regal" on it is
    kinda a joke. go for the weathertech instead. if you buy the regal, plan
    on keeping it a while too. resale value drops hard which is typical
    with most GM resale values. i do love the car overall but i have to
    admit the Buicklink GPS, although it states its up to date, has been
    proven to be out of date when locating businesses/restaurants etc
    several times, and on board MPG calculator is consistently off by a good
    3-4 mpg.2.0 Turbo does kick in well and great for passing or having a
    lil fun. I give it an A- /B+ .

    Is Buick still perceived as the AARP brand?
    The current Opel Insignia based Buick Regal is a somewhat desirable sports sedan/lift back . The GM salesman was astonished that I asked for a test drive last year since everyone is so crossover crazy now. It’s not as nicely equipped as an Acura TLX in base form and GM’s leasing rates are astronomical, but I could see myself driving one if I were paying cash and I needed to “buy American” (even though it’s built in Germany 🇩🇪 LOL).

For what it counts, I would prefer a wagon between the two for its superior aerodynamics, reduced rollover hazard, and shorter stopping distance due to lower weight.

    • @eaglefat9398
      @eaglefat9398 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      those idiots rank cars before the car even is released is is based off who pays more for status, as a ASE tech i know newer BMW reliability is pathetic and expensive, Audi is hit or miss but also expensive and unnecessarily complicated to fix, And Kia is joke, engineers cringe just looking at its material quality and im not talking about the pillar molding rather the engineering that actually matters, i had to change a entire wiring harness because it had a small dent in the fender but because the wires were so thin and stretched so tight that little dent tour apart the entire harness, not to mention its like driving a tin can not a luxury car more like 1999 corolla. As for Buick aside from a a few early 2014 Buick regals and the china made crossover they have been bullet proof reliable and actually a luxury car thats comfortable to be in for long trips, plus its a German car anyway.

      I'm actually old enough to remember when you could get a Camry with a 5-speed; now, it's only the Mazda 6 in that class. You can get an '18 Corolla with a 6-speed, but ONLY in the SE. The other lines have the SAME engine, but no-go for the "row-your-own," and THAT is B.S.
      Try getting a stick with a moonroof. For SOME inexplicable reason, they seemingly cannot do that anymore... We're not recreating the pyramids here...
      Imagine a new Impala SS with a 6-speed stick, and whatever the top-performance engine they could access! Copy that for Buick - Wildcat!
      I tend to think it's more that WE just accept whatever THEY put out; kind of like if you go to Wal Mart and look at men's clothes: Do they sell that crap because that's how we dress, or do we dress like crap because that's mostly what's available?

    No mention about the cheap trim others have complained about... most are upset at the hard plastics throughout the cabin and the Chevy controls used in an effort to cut costs. However, I see they have a lower price point than all the other competitors except Subaru which they match. My question is which interior is better, the Subaru Legacy/Outback or the Buick Sportback/TourX? I will go to the NY Auto Show to get my answer.

      i own a 2016 Regal and there is almost zero hard plastic, leather dash, doors, seats and the Buick infotainment system(intel link) is far better then Chevy's and miles better then Cadillacs , my sister has a 18 camaro my Buick is worlds apart, just looking doesn't impart the quality but after driving a Camaro then jumping in my regal you really appreciate what a luxury car actually is and how much more relaxing of a place it is. Use to drive a 08 Benz CLK350 but it jot rod knock at 28k and its 09 replacement did the same thing at 32k. Honestly my regal interior is easily as nicer then clk350 and it drive equally good.

    • @Buc_Stops_Here
      @Buc_Stops_Here 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      But the 2016 is the previous generation. I sat in an Outback and a Regal at the car show, the Regal is slightly nicer. Looked at the Forester and Envision, the Envision is definitely nicer and more upscale. Too bad the Regal does not have the self parking feature that Australia and Germany receive - ironically the Envision from China does get the self parking feature. Again, hard to understand the decisions Buick corporate gets. Then again, US GM decided the US Envison gets hyperstrut for better handling and China gets McPherson struts. So the cars are not identical by any means in both countries.

    So that's what they're doing with the Vauxhall Insignia. Caution for used buyers, if you get the 2.0 CDTi diesel engine, watch out for a rather alarming fault. When these engines go above 120,000 miles, the big end bearings will spin within the crankcase, turning your engine into scrap in a matter of seconds. It's just something to be weary of

    • @syxepop
      @syxepop 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank VW's CHEATING for US not getting any TD's. The only US-spec engines are the two torque levels of the T-2.0L I4 and in "19 MY a NA-3.6L V6 on the GS, which it is used (at 306hp or so) in cars like the Chevy Impala and Buick Lacrosse, both being PETROL engines.
      Uh, chap.. The engine you're ranting about would be the same as the 2.0L TD in last year's US-spec Chevy Cruze (being replaced now by a 1.6L), right?
