Fun fact: Tobias came up with the guitar part when he was at the playground swinging his kids 😅. He just sung the rhythm part in his cellphone and then carried on hanging out with the kids. He always comes up with bits and parts and when he makes the records he put them together into songs. Sometimes they don't match and then he can take out parts and use them for something else or add something from something else. With Cirice it was originally a longer song where Devil's Church was a part of the intro making it over nine minutes long. On the record thou he separated Devil's Church so its a stand alone song. Cirice won Tobias his first American Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance back in 2016. If you search TH-cam you will find one of Tobias biggest fans Mr James Hetfield playing the intro in rehearsal. There's is also a video out where you can see James sitting in the audience headbanging to "Cirice" just like an ordinary fan 😅.

Tobias strolling through life gathering song parts like plucking flowers in a field. hahahah. The creative mind never rests. True story- after listening to this last night I had a dream that I was in high school again and the vice principal was making an announcement that we couldn't listen to Afroman's song "Because I Got High". Thank you for this. I am going to look for the Hetfield clip. I can see shades of classic Metallica in the Ghost stuff.

I saw that. Great songwriting in Ghost. Tobias is the real deal. Might not get the recognition on account of SATAN

Great reaction. Ghost doesn't label themselves, but fans (and non-fans) love to argue over the "metal" tag. I think they are "metal" like Deep Purple and Blue Oyster Cult used to be called Heavy Metal in the 70's. Not metal by today's standards. To me they play well crafted melodic, catchy rock music and do it better than anyone has in the last 20+ years.

The other day I was watching a clip comparing The Grateful Dead to other jam bands (I think it was Michael Palmisano from @Guitargate). He was saying that the difference between them and most of the other is that they had great songs. I also think this separates Ghost from a lot of the other "metal" bands who have amazing musical proficiency but cant make a decent melody with 3 chords. I agree that they are metal in the early sense of it- but also it doesn't matter. Thank you for watching and for this comment. Take care

Thanks for the shout out and no worries on the name - very few guess it correctly, which is always amusing for me 😂.
Ghost fits whatever genre Tobias wants to hit for each song/album, so there's a good chance you won't like every song, but also a good chance you'll like at least a few (probably more than). I go to different Ghost songs just depending on my mood, so sometimes I love listening to Cirice, and sometimes I skip it for one I'm feeling more that day. I am looking forward to your thoughts on Infestissumam - especially Ghuleh/Zombie Queen.

The genre hoping is a huge plus. I’m really into a band called “ween” that you should check out if you’re looking for something new. I have many videos about them on the channel.
Spoiler alert- Ghuleh might be my favourite ghost track so far. It’s really grown on me. The full album review is coming soon.

Loving your reviews! Don’t worry if the lore doesn’t stand out to you, I’m just a sucker for story haha! Although you might be confused if you see them “reanimate a corpse” on stage just for a saxophone solo 😂
TF has said that he doesn’t care that people argue about whether his music is labeled metal or rock or whatever, because what he puts out there is his vision and he just wants people to have fun. Their show has been protested before for being “Satanic”, even though TF has stated that they just want to have fun and show people to enjoy life without being held back. They are showmen at heart though, cracking a few jokes/guitar battles/monologues throughout concerts. Their music does go through changes, earlier albums singing about Satan while newer ones sing about greed, political/religious agendas, and the fall of empires.
I think you should compare Jigilo Har Megiddo’s studio version and acoustic version (that they’ve only played it live and not recorded) to really get see evolution and direction of where the band was headed with experimenting sound (which TF loves to do).
That being said, 3rd & 4th really benefited from Cirice by singing the chorus to an audience member while holding their hand (like in the video). Fans have called it being “Cirice’d” 😂
Sorry for the long comment, keep doing what you’re doing! Looking forward to the next video!

Regarding the lore. When I started listening to all the back catalogue in early 2022, I didn't care about the lore. I'm someone who doesn't focus on what genre a band is in, or even an album. I enjoy concept albums, but I don't care about their history or lore until I've gotten into the songs. So, I listened to every album dozens of times before I even attempted to dig into what any of it meant. I don't think it's a requirement to understand the meaning (to me, melody is king). But, I DO think you need to be open-minded about the musical journey or you'll be like some of these channels where they're like "NO! THIS IS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED!" Thankfully, so far, you seem to be pretty open-minded about this stuff. You can dig into the lore later.
As for this reaction, having played a talent show as the "metal band" there is nothing more horrifying... than the looks of parents who didn't know they were walking into satan's music at a show for kids. Thankfully, the kids loved it and jumped out of their seats and started moshing. And yes, Tobias is one of these unusual singers who seems to have improved with age. That's probably because he's learned how to sing as he's aged. I think his live voice, especially, has become way better in his late 30s & early 40s than it was in his early 30s. He claims to have never taken voice lessons. I imagine it has helped having the current backup singers in the touring band (like Mad Gallica who has a Kickstarter for her first album going) who can pick up the big notes now while he can focus on the main parts.
Anyway, looking forward to your second album reaction (it is currently my favorite, though their third is a very close second).

Thank you for this. As someone who really started singing in my 30's I think I can relate. The biggest difference for me was playing live- it gets you so much better than anything else. TF has been on tour for over a decade now and the muscles have strengthened. "I DID NOT SEE THIS COMMENT COMING" hahahah. I'm definitely going to be getting into the lore still. Its that kind of detail that really interests me in a band. It shows the real craft involved.

Ballad?! With that riff?! You most certainly were not listening!!

Ballads can’t have riffs? It’s also being sung to someone directly. Sounds like balladry to my ears. Ballads can be good too.

Check their proper ballad ‘He is’ next! Great reaction! I think this video is a homage to Stephen Kings Carrie movie.
