An open mortise on the top of the wood with a through tenon is called a bridal joint. A through tenon is made with a rail or stretcher's tenon going all the way through the style or leg, in the middle and is usually wedged.
Great idea. But how do you join the front and back parts of the bench, that run perpendicular to the ends? Do you create traditional square cut mortise and tenons?
Hi Wes, in a video you asked to put in comment some idea of thing that you could build. I would love to see how to create beehouses. I have bees in my garden, I am à beginner, but I would like to build by myslef 2 or 3 beehouses but it looks to be not an easy game. Thanks for your videos that I see today for the first time, I like the way you explain then it doesn't look that difficult🙂 Patrice
Hi Wes, great ! My grand father made a lot of beehouses and at the begining he used his car as an engine for his circular saw 😀 he had no electricity on site at that time. I am sure he built easy but good ones. Thank you and have a wonderful day. Patrice

Does this technique have a name? I'm new, so I've never seen it before, but it looks like a great way to join things for a newbie.
It's just an easy way to accomplish a traditional mortise and tenon joint. Thanks for watching, Wes
What about making the other parts that slip in?
What’s with all the clamps if you went to so much trouble with the deck screws? Aren’t those adequate?
Would you ever use pegs or dowels in place of screws?
Yes you could use pegs or dowels in place of the screws if you desire. Thanks for watching, Wes
Hey Wes do you have a measured drawing of that bench you would share
Hi Jim....I am in the process of doing another video showing the dimensions of the bench. Wes
are you using your feet again to cut on your table saw lol
