Looks like the trick to this is to find or make two different thicknesses of material for the front and sides. Great job for my new thickness planer. 😊
I have a huge stack of oak that came out of an old house. I plan on making a Gerstner style toolbox with it. These rabbit joints are just what I need to make my drawers... Thanks for sharing!!! I subbed.

When I visit my Dad and woodworking friends over Christmas I plan to play with these joints. Loving the channel more and more as I watch, 10-20min per vid is certainly a sweet spot. Do you use "talking paper" much when working with others in the shop? Dad and I are constantly drawing to explain our ideas to each other when words fall short, just curious how universal that is with others...
As for "talking paper," I absolutely use it! I find that sketching things out makes it a lot easier to communicate ideas, especially when you're trying to explain something that's hard to put into words. It's almost second nature for me when I'm working with someone else in the shop or planning out a project. The old saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words," really rings true when it comes to woodworking. It’s cool to hear that you and your dad do the same!
Great question! If you're thinking of something like a candle box with a sliding lid, then yes, you can absolutely use locking rabbets for the top and bottom as well. It’s a solid method that would work perfectly, and it’ll give your box a nice, sturdy finish. I think it would make a beautiful project for a new woodworker!
