My Cambridge Certificate says I'm already a C1 user, but there's still so much to learn. My ultimate goal is to master the language and become as fluent as it's possible for a non-native speaker of English. Hope to sit my C2 exam one day.
in brief: In this video, the speaker discusses the C1 advanced level of English, which is the ultimate goal for many English learners. The speaker explains that C1 is about fluency with a deep understanding of the nuances of the English language, including phrases that native speakers naturally use and understanding subtle jokes. The video focuses on the grammar needed to achieve the C1 level, which is less about learning entirely new grammatical structures and more about learning grammatical nuances and fine-tuning one's repertoire of phrases. Key grammatical concepts covered in the video include: - Tenses: Advanced uses of past, present, and future tenses. - Modals: Advanced structures for speculation and deduction. - Conditionals: Advanced usage of words and phrases to replace "if." - Passive Voice: Using passive infinitive and passive ING forms. - Negative Inversion: Adding emphasis and variation to writing and speaking. - Hedging and Boosting: Softening or increasing the force of statements. - Phrasal Verbs: Understanding their various meanings depending on the context. - Conjunctions and Connectors: Mastering coordinating, correlative, and subordinating conjunctions and connectors to form complex and varied sentence structures. The speaker has also created a free ebook that details everything covered in the video, as well as additional grammar, vocabulary, and skills needed for the C1 level. The ebook is available for download through a link in the video description.
I did your online test and it said my level is presumably C2 which seems to be overly optimistic to me. I just spend to days with my lovely British friend in Berlin and I felt more I’m on a B2 level as I’m not used to speak English as often as I would like to do. Searching both for grammar and vocabulary. So I guess it would be a perfect idea to join your C1 course even if your fantastic tenses challenge was sometimes quite demanding, at least for me. Btw I utterly love the way you’re teaching English with such a great level joy for your language and plenty of emphasis. 👍🇬🇧🇩🇪
Congratulations on your fantastic score! That test is just intended to be a guide, but you clearly have a great grasp of the language! I’m so glad you enjoy my lessons :) It’s great to have you on board! I am very excited to launch the C1 course - it’s the best yet!!!

@@HxTurtle Yes, this is true! Many native English speakers have a poor grasp of the language. Many use improper grammar, have a poor vocabulary - some even mispronounce words (and I’m not talking about variations in dialect)! You’re an amazing English teacher Lucy . You really know how to convey the concepts and the contents . Even though I am an English teacher I have been learning a lot from you . Thank you so much for sharing it with us. ❤️
I thought I was at a C1 level. However, everything shifted rapidly after watching this video. I also learned some grammar points that you mentioned, to be honest. It really dawned on me, and now I will rehearse my C1 skills. Thank you so much, teacher.
Many thanks, Lucy, for your pleasant, educative and reasonably challenging content and this concise video ❤ I adore your pronunciation! I've passed the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English exam (C2) at the end of my A-Levels (more than 10 years ago) and have been using English in my work and private life ever since. However, I feel that the variety of my active vocabulary, idioms and expressions can be improved and has actually decreased over the years (due to lack of serious practice with native/more advanced English speakers). If you don't live in an English-speaking country and have little encounter with native speakers in different contexts (such as culture, politics, science), you quickly lose practice. Therefore, I'm considering to take active action to work on my command of English, including the pronunciation. I wonder if the C1 course is not too easy for me, but I do believe that I could learn something new or at least refresh my language skills. My goal is to improve my everyday language and make it more versatile and sophisticated.
rest assured, if your spoken English is only about half as good as your written form, you easily outperform the majority of all native speakers-especially considering the States being an English speaking country as well (lol.) but I hardly read anything as error free as your text-including native speakers. touching up one's skills is always a good idea, but I can also see how this is somewhat of a challenging task to improve yours even further. cheers!
What an English ! I've never taken a proficiency exam, and I wonder what level would I get if I apply for a test. I really feel you, especially where you say it is difficult to practice or continue in touch with the language in a non English-speaking country. Furthermore, if you don't cheer yourself up, you barely improve it.
I am 13 and my C1 exam will be held tomorrow. After watching this video, it really gave me some sense of what the grammar is. Thank you for your great help!!!
i'm not really sure in what level of my english proficiency, but when i'm watching people's videos on youtube i absolutely understand what the meaning is. unfortunately my speaking skill is not as goo as my listening. i face some trouble when trying to speak and talk to people, kind of need a bit of time like seconds to process generating phrases haha. I aim to get C1 level and ensure that my speaking skill is fluent and could talk clearly. Thank You, Lucy
It is a very useful lesson! It helps me to assess my English level, which I think between B2 and C1 according to what has been mentioned in this short video! English with Lucy, thank you so much ❤️,!
I failed my C1. I got really upset, to be honest I got a bit depressed. I spent months preparing myself with courses and private classes. Also studying by myself, doing my best to reach something that I really wanted to. I was confident that I could score at least 180 but sadly my score was 178. When I got the results I was 100% sure that something was wrong. I asked and paid for my exam be reviewed twice. They said that nothing was wrong. I showed my results to my teacher and based on all our hard work and mock tests, etc, he said that it would be impossible to have got ALL 56 questions in the Reading part wrong. My speaking test, Listening, Use of English was above 185 marks, how could I have answered 56 questions wrong in the Reading part? 😮 I am sorry but for me it is a bit hard to believe, honestly. From that moment I gave up studying. I know, it is not a paper that will define who I am. I'm trying to rebuild my confidence. I believe that everything has a purpose even when we fail because God knows everything!
You should continue with studying. Never give up things so easily, I am not good at English, I want to reach C1, I'm also visiting C1 lessons and I'm scared from CAE exam
@@sevilsedatova1199 Tks for you comment. I am sure you will reach your goals. C1 is hard I can tell but if you study a lot and do billions of of mock tests you will get there. God bless!
Thank you very much for sharing your sorrow experience. However, I undergo the same experience as you did, but with the IELTS test. I have tried to reach c1 but I got 6.5. It was disaster.
Such a thorough overview. I've got ielts 8.0, which technically is a full on C1, but i feel like a lower C1 after watching this. It's not unknown, yet unused.
The word "Thank You" isn't really enough to express my purest gratitude towards you lucy. Anyway thanks a lot for everything you did for me. Current Level is B2 Ultimate Goal is to crack C2 level and achieve William Shakespeare level of English language..😊🙏❤️ Ultimately Excellence that matter.
I am quite hubristic by nature so I don't want to make any bold claims but I'd say that I'm at B2. Having said that my grammar knowledge is a bit haphazard because I did not apply myself at school due to personal issues. I'm however working on that aspect and aim for at least C1 maybe even C2 within five years.
I'm not sure of my level of english. Although I understand it perfectly, speaking is definitely a huge challenge. Most of the times I tend to translate everything in my head instead of just thinking in english. That happens because I am really insecure about my language skills! Right now, I'm studying to reach level C1, but I think I'm between level B1 and B2. Your book is going to help me a lot! Thank you for your videos and ebook!
I am in a similar situation. I love the language and can understand it perfectly, however when it comes to speaking I feel so weird that I tend to forget all my knowledge it is like I go blank and I think it is more due to my lack of confidence on myself than on my english level. So i should work on my confidence by talking alone or something, good luck.
I´m B1 level, maybe B1 plus on reading, but on speaking and writing I feel I´m on A1 plus level, I have been struggling a lot to improve my speaking and writting skills. My goal is to speak unconsciously, at least for maintaining conversations easily. My ultimate goal is to achieve at least a C1 level in all skills. Thks for te content.
I’ve got a C1 level certification from the Trinity College London some years ago and I’d love to practice and improve my skills, I’m a fan of yours and I can’t wait to be part of that course.
I reached C1 level a long time ago, but this video has still been very useful. I'm trying to reach C2 level but I feel like it'll take forever, at least double or triple the time taken to reach C1 level from scratch.
Hello dear Lucy, I am currently working towards a C1 level of English and at the end of my school year I'll do the Cambridge exam at that level. Since all of that is going to happen, I am studying ineffably hard, BUT I find it fun. I dare say that I've mastered all of the grammar and vocabulary regarding the C1 level, but I still find reading & use of English quite arduous ESPECIALLY reading! I am doubtfull of saying with confidence that reading is also covered in your C1 program. Nevertheless do I promote all of your programs with the C1 program in particular and I hope that everyone who has signed up will profit from it and learn a lot. Thank you Lucy, for making but helpful and guiding videos regarding the beauty of the British English language.
Hello professor Lucy!, i really hope that everything is going alright!, but i'm here to say something, I would like you to increase the volume of your voice hehe
Oh gosh I wish I were as fluent as yourself, dearest Lucy! I wish I lived in the UK to the level that I genuinely surround my whole life and daily routine with lovely British English and follow a plethora of British podcasts so as to think like a Brit and ultimately speak like one. Never could I be more thankful to Brexit for not allowing me to live in your Dreamland, where I previously had the chance to almost plant some roots though...At least for a year and 4 months, which has allowed me to become more than fluent and perfectly understand a variety of accents and use a wide range of phrasal verbs and idioms. Since I'm teaching English like a second language I only speak to a1 or a2 people. Hardly ever do I address to people on a higher level, besides myself and my partner. God forbid I forget how to express myself in the BBE 💕 as a result of that I'll be on my way of saving for your advanced and proficient courses, as I want to become more than able to teach to university students one day, besides my lovely children and teenagers (and to elderly ones at times). Listening to you and Ana speak at 6 am, as I'm an early bird, really is my whimsical cup of tea!!!! Whenever you'll wish to have a cappuccino by the astounding Garda lake, to say the least, I'm more than happy to offer you some badass Italian conversation whilst showing you around! I owe you 😘
Well currently somewhere at the beginning of C1, getting into it step by step, but I already have a pretty good understanding about various topics and am slowly going through it :). Goal: strong C1 by the end of 2024
Thank you so much for your video, it makes me realize that I should strive for the better.... Still not sure what level I have, for a couple of years I have had B2 for sure, not certain if I am already at C1. However, I know almost everything from what was mentioned in your video. Planning to take an IELTS exam in a couple of months, I can't wait to see how much progress I have made
Taking the IELTS exam will be an exciting milestone to gauge your progress. Keep practicing and exploring different materials to boost your skills. I'm sure you'll do fantastic!
Fantastic!! 👏 it is my first time in this channel and I need to say you have got a high quality content to really improve our english. Thank you so much for that, I really appreciate your efforts!😊
Oh my level, my level...Even I hardly ever need subtitles to watch any British film or sitcom, and am quite capable of reading all-through the books of Virginia Woolf without looking up in the dictionary...I don't think I ever could pass the C1 exam with flying colours...I always get mixed up with the tenses and the whole caboodle of inverted sentences and so on... I need a teacher like ya, Lucy!😀 And this is not a cheeky compliment.
My native language is Spanish, I have B2 English level in some apps and english tests. But I consider that I'm a hard B1. Because my speaking is not good enough. As you can read, I can write and have a conversation but speaking is my Aquilles'heel. My goal it's C1 in everything for sure!

I wonder if the C1 course is not too easy for me, but I do believe that I could learn something new or at least refresh my language skills. My goal is to improve my everyday language and make it more versatile and sophisticated.
rest assured, if your spoken English is only about half as good as your written form, you easily outperform the majority of all native speakers-especially considering the States being an English speaking country as well (lol.)
but I hardly read anything as error free as your text-including native speakers. touching up one's skills is always a good idea, but I can also see how this is somewhat of a challenging task to improve yours even further.
I think i am at B2 and my target level is C1. I think the eBook will greatly help me. Thanks Lucy! 😊😊😊
i'm not really sure in what level of my english proficiency, but when i'm watching people's videos on youtube i absolutely understand what the meaning is. unfortunately my speaking skill is not as goo as my listening. i face some trouble when trying to speak and talk to people, kind of need a bit of time like seconds to process generating phrases haha. I aim to get C1 level and ensure that my speaking skill is fluent and could talk clearly. Thank You, Lucy
It's normal that your listening is better than your speaking.
It is a very useful lesson! It helps me to assess my English level, which I think between B2 and C1 according to what has been mentioned in this short video! English with Lucy, thank you so much ❤️,!
I myself am an English instructor, TESOL certified, and often share with my students resources like this video!

Hello. I am from Turkey. My english level is B1 and I am looking for someone to talk to improve my english. Would you like to speak with me?
Such a thorough overview. I've got ielts 8.0, which technically is a full on C1, but i feel like a lower C1 after watching this. It's not unknown, yet unused.
I think I'm already a good English speaker and at C1 level, but this video helped me improve more..
The word "Thank You" isn't really enough to express my purest gratitude towards you lucy. Anyway thanks a lot for everything you did for me.
Current Level is B2
Ultimate Goal is to crack C2 level and achieve William Shakespeare level of English language..😊🙏❤️
Ultimately Excellence that matter.
Thanks to your videos, I'm continuously improving to reach the advanced level.
OMG, I think I’m in love with you, I because cannot skip your videos ma’am 🫶🏻😻 you’re a perfect happiest teacher I’ve ever seen 💐💐💐
My level in English is B1, and my ultimate goal is to reach C2 level.
I am at B2 level of English . My ultimate goal is to reach C2- advanced level of English. Thankyou for the video it was very helpful.
Current level A2
Current predicted level B1
Goal level C2
I´m B1 level, maybe B1 plus on reading, but on speaking and writing I feel I´m on A1 plus level, I have been struggling a lot to improve my speaking and writting skills. My goal is to speak unconsciously, at least for maintaining conversations easily. My ultimate goal is to achieve at least a C1 level in all skills. Thks for te content.
Love you ma'am ..from India
I watch your video to see you. I have no fascination with learning English but seeing your video motivates me to learn.

I’ve got a C1 level certification from the Trinity College London some years ago and I’d love to practice and improve my skills, I’m a fan of yours and I can’t wait to be part of that course.
That's awesome! Good point around practice, it's very important!
I like the passion you have to help your students to achieve the fluency in english...keep up the good work Madam

I reached C1 level a long time ago, but this video has still been very useful. I'm trying to reach C2 level but I feel like it'll take forever, at least double or triple the time taken to reach C1 level from scratch.
Thank you so much!
Hello dear Lucy,
I am currently working towards a C1 level of English and at the end of my school year I'll do the Cambridge exam at that level.
Thank you Lucy, for making but helpful and guiding videos regarding the beauty of the British English language.
the very last "but," you overdid, IMHO. I'm unable to attribute any meaning to that constellation. just saying.

Hello professor Lucy!, i really hope that everything is going alright!, but i'm here to say something, I would like you to increase the volume of your voice hehe
Never have I seen such a great advice like this.
Hi ma'am🤗🤗 I really appreciate your help💖.And I did the test.I got B2 Level.😊😊
Thank you! I'm getting closer to this darn level
In germany we take an english test (Vera8) in eighth grade. I was the best of my whole class and got 98% wich is the equivalent to C1
never seen such a detailed, nuanced and well-organized explanation of the C1 level.
Good, as always...
I am so happy to know about this. ❤❤❤
Thank you so much, Lucy. I highly recommend your videos to my students.
I think that I am B1...as a high school student I think I can learn so much more and I wanna be an english teacher some day..so my goal is C1 😅
I owe you 😘
Thanks a bunch ❤
Well currently somewhere at the beginning of C1, getting into it step by step, but I already have a pretty good understanding about various topics and am slowly going through it :). Goal: strong C1 by the end of 2024
What a nice presentation
Good job
thank you so much!
Lucy the best teacher english
I loved this video, Lucy! ❤
Greetings from Chile 😊
Thanks for what you did for me to well understand my 2nd language
Sweet education 🎉
I m a B2 learner of English
Nd I m working on it to boost it into C1 level
Thank you so much for your video, it makes me realize that I should strive for the better....
Still not sure what level I have, for a couple of years I have had B2 for sure, not certain if I am already at C1. However, I know almost everything from what was mentioned in your video. Planning to take an IELTS exam in a couple of months, I can't wait to see how much progress I have made
Taking the IELTS exam will be an exciting milestone to gauge your progress. Keep practicing and exploring different materials to boost your skills. I'm sure you'll do fantastic!
Thanks a lot about your great lesson my amazing teacher keep up the good work!!!!
She's awesome
Interesting and encouraging ❤
I'm bloody impressed

Thank you
Wonderful lesson 👏
Thanks for this video ma'am
But i m beginner in British English. . .
How i learn fluent English???
Please suggest me
Oh my level, my level...Even I hardly ever need subtitles to watch any British film or sitcom, and am quite capable of reading all-through the books of Virginia Woolf without looking up in the dictionary...I don't think I ever could pass the C1 exam with flying colours...I always get mixed up with the tenses and the whole caboodle of inverted sentences and so on... I need a teacher like ya, Lucy!😀 And this is not a cheeky compliment.
I think you're doing great! Really impressed by your comment
Should I choose either American english or British english to study ?
Dose it get weird if the pronunciation mixed up…
My native language is Spanish, I have B2 English level in some apps and english tests. But I consider that I'm a hard B1. Because my speaking is not good enough. As you can read, I can write and have a conversation but speaking is my Aquilles'heel. My goal it's C1 in everything for sure!
current level: B2/C1
gaol level: full C1
Thanku lucy
I am on B2. An my goal is to achieve c2
I have an off-topic question, but what is the difference between the word home and house?
Hello I not a teacher bu I'd like to answer your question about house and home. Every house is a House but Home is where you live or the house belongs to you. I think you have a point, Thanks.
@@lismasokisi-ds5jn ohhhh now I get it, thank you ❤️
This is an excellent video. I never thought of leveling up. Many thanks, Lucy.
