I find it so interesting that in the last two vids I’ve watched they were experienced drivers and they haven’t done anything wrong yet other road users are beeping at them!. People really do like to bully learner drivers… it’s so unfortunate for us, I get so panicky and anxious when it happens!!!! Wish people were more patient.
Then you should do lots of practise and build your confidence. A panicky driver is just as dangerous as a beligerant one. You will eventually learn to see potential issues before they happen by reading everyone else body language. And remember, if you drive in a way that is easily predictable by other drivers that maximises your safety on the road.
I think a lot of it also has to do with poor attitudes of drivers in general. I cycle about 10miles to work and even though I can cruise quite happily at 23-25mph once warmed up. I still get beeps from drivers behind me that think that (a) im too slow/im holding them up. (b) because they think i should be in the cycle lane (which are no laws stating that i should be) (c) that im taking up too much space - a bikes length... (d) i dont pay road tax or insurance -- which i actually do and i actually have to pay twice for insurance. One for the car and one for the bicycle. or (e) we dont have number plates so arent on some sort of register like the DVLA meaning we cant be reported for bad cycling... Its not like cars being registered on the DVLA has ever stopped some people from bad driving --- some of the complaints are silly but some road users are just petty like that. They overtake me but I laugh at them as they get stuck behind a line of cars at a traffic light while im filtering my way through to the top of the queue. But I digress. A lot of bad habits are picked up *AFTER* people have passed their driving tests and there is no instructor in the passenger seat to correct them. Thats why i'm a firm believer that drivers should be made to take a compulsory _'refresher'_ course every few years just to brush up on their driving skills as well as update them on any changes to the highway code. For example, my Dad learned to drive in the 70s. There has probably been a lot of changes to the highway code since then and my dad has never touched or picked up another highway code book since passing his test. But lucky for him, he possesses quite a decent amount of common sense so a lot of his driving is done by erring on the side of caution.

As long as you can make the manoeuvre safely and check your mirrors before OR after signalling, then it shouldn't be a minor. Nobody on the roads interpret signalling as you're going to perform the manoeuvre, it just indicates that you want to do so when it's safe.
I don't disagree but you could also argue it says alot about people's standard of driving and mentality considering how many bad drivers there are and the amount of accidents both minor and major, the majority of which could be avoided. It was surprisingly chill tbh, yes I did slip up at the start when turning (not roundabout) but quickly reversed my way out of that one!😂 Apart from that the roundabouts, carriageways etc was pretty chill, and of course the option to bike is another great way to commute/travel. Even changing gears when the controls were on the opposite side felt natural, but I suspect that's because I don't have many driving hours on me so no strong habits. Fun experience, would love to visit again after I pas- I mean visit :)
i'm about to do my test in Netherlands in a few months (from UK but learning to drive here) how was it? I'm super nervous, i'm hoping the 35 lessons i've booked are enough lol

I think a _lot_ of experienced drivers would fail a test if they took it now. Partly because driving in real life isn't really like test conditions, but mostly because many people become complacent with experience and rely on their ability to react to things rather than developing better abilities in planning and anticipation. Sometimes I think we should retest every 10 years just to reinforce some of the ideas we learn during lessons, then abandon once we pass.
A lot of people born in the 1950s and 1960s learned driving basics from hustling or taught by their parents, sibling, relatives or neighbors. Road safety were not obsessively enforced back in those days as the idea of driving schools were a primitive thing, like an extra curricular activities similar to art, guitar or ballet lessons.
@@rdu239 there were also fewer cars on the roads and many of the roads themselves were less complex. Our local area, for example, has expanded considerably even since I was a kid in the 90s/00s. People who passed their test here in the 80s likely did so before ever seeing a motorway or even a roundabout. Edit: cars not cats 😂
I know my dad will fail and he has over 60+ years experience. He always used to travel everywhere for his work so he was ALWAYS driving. Now he just HATES driving as its not enjoyable and its too busy now. He hates traffic and sitting behind slow cars 🤣 But my dad is a good driver sometimes.
I thought I was alright, until I took on the IAM accreditation, which made me realise how little control I had of the car, as well as how unaware and unprepared I was for everyday hazards. There is always room for improvement, it’s a shame that most drivers don’t consider polishing or even revising good driving technique.
I love your reations in these videos. Found you from Tik Tok. Im very supprised 18:58 is only a minor with the crossing. If one of them turned back, that could have been very bad. :)
At the NEXT TRAFFIC LIIGHT JUNCTION we will be turning right, coming up shortly. Next on the floor we see a combined straight ahead/right turn arrow on approach to traffic lights. At the traffic lights we blunder straight on. It pays to listen on test and pick up on clues.
Hi there Aman I would like to say that I am an experienced driver. I started driving when I was 12 years old (not a good idea) and passed my test when I was 21 years old. And also passed my occ test at 39 years old. And forgot to mention I passed my full motorbike test about a month ago so if you ever fancy giving me a free mock driving test for your TH-cam video I’m not shy and I might still learn something from you. One more thing I would like to know is there a mock test video that you have on TH-cam that has no serious or minors kind regards Rich 👍🚘
Thank you for this Aman and I’ve watched most of your videos and they help me a lot. I’m taking some lessons at the moment so I’ll definitely email you to do the mock test 😊
I dont understand the first minor issue. Why check your mirrors before signaling? Thatll help no-one im sure. Check before turning, by all means but why before even signaling?
After passing my (UK) test over 30 years ago and a first time pass at that, i am 100% confident should i ever have the need to take another driving test for whatever reason i know i am done for... game over... :D
I'm learning in Spain atm. Quite different, as you are not given faults for not checking mirrors (just make sure you check them) and you have to completely move into opposite lane to overtake a cyclist. Not really possible on London roads I guess
Hi Aman, I'm an ADI myself and always like to compare notes when watching these videos. I like how you dealt with his manor on mirrors, he was under the impression he checked them all the time maybe the timing of them wasn't right, when in fact he didn't check them at all in several places. I get pupils who sometimes disagree with me about mirror checks, and I'm a bit more blunt with them. Also, I apologise if you've been asked this before on other videos, but what make a model is your dash cam? I'm looking at getting one installed (which I kept saying I would on my last car of 3 years, and my new one I was like, yeahh going to get one straight away..... 15 months later, still no dash cam😆) and yours is the best one by far I've seen on these types of videos. Thanks, Felix
One thing always puzzles me, "the smaler the gap" the slower you go. But to be fair at high or slow speeds the gap stays the same. All has to do with do you know the dimensions of your car well? I live on a small street, two cars can fit but on either side about 50 cm's. I don't brake anymore for oncoming trafic it just fits. Otherwise i have to be braking all the time for years even tho the cars fit. But i do get that driving is easier for some than others. I can pretty much fit a big truck in the smallest of streets without any issues, while small litle cars somehow can't fit true places even i can fit tru.
Raife, good smoothed driving! Be proactive, searching for potential hazard, awareness and observation! Raife, a very experience driver, should be alright, driving a manual car! shouldn't be too difficult, for him. ✌
I passed my driving test second time yesterday with 0 faults! I was feeling quite nervous as the first test wasn’t great (made a couple of silly mistakes) but watching these videos really helped a lot along with a couple more lessons with my instructor, so thank you. Happy to be part of the passed crew that still watch 😂
Doesn’t the UK have exchange agreements with Australia? Licence holders from Australia do not need to take a test in the U.K. they just need to exchange their Australian licence with a British one if they’re living in the U.K.
Aman you'd have a field day testing people where I live, I'm sure about 80 percent of experienced driver's would fail their test as there's alot of people who seem to have given up the use of mirrors and indicators
The first answer is wrong, the turn signals and hazard lights aren't on the same circuit on all cars, the hazards might work but the turn signals might not. A student might not buy the same car he or she is learning in. Why would you check your mirrors before signaling? Pay attention to what's happening around you at all times, know how many cars were behind you ten seconds ago and if they're gone turn your head and check your blind spots before maneuvering. Don't take your attention away from the front of the car for a pointless reason, people might walk into the road off of the sidewalk just as you're approaching the intersection. Teaching this might make it a habit for people to check their mirrors before signaling and then not check their mirrors before maneuvering, which is a recipe for getting t-boned by a speeder that came flying from around the corner (had this scenario happen hundreds of times, checking the mirror before turning the steering wheel saved the lives of many idiot crotch-rocketeers in the time I've been driving). As for the "check your mirrors before slowing down", I really hope that you're not teaching people to do that in an emergency braking scenario. I had an instructor berate me for braking suddenly without checking my rearview mirror first when a kid ran out into the road in front of me, which is an absolutely batshit thing to say to a learner. I struggle to understand what staring at the rearview mirror in an emergency braking situation would have achieved (apart from a potentially dead child). "Check mirrors before changing speed" why? There's already a rule in this video about checking your mirrors before slowing down, so I assume this one is about acceleration. If you're accelerating ALL of your attention must be at the front of the car. "Check your mirrors before moving left" should have been a very serious mistake, cyclists sometimes ride twice the speed limit in the city thinking they're immortal, so you have to pay very close attention to whether or not a cyclist is trying to blaze past you in the bicycle lane. All in all, he mostly didn't waste his attention on pointless things. His first serious error was not checking his mirrors before signaling, which is a pointless thing to make into a habit, so not a mistake. His second serious error was inadequate clearance, which is sort of understandable, a car door might open. His third serious error wasn't really an error, since the speed was only 20 and he was already occupying all of the available road, as the other lane had cars parked all along the sidewalk and half of the oncoming lane was obstructed, so any oncoming cars would have had to cross into his lane to continue ahead, meaning they had an obstruction ahead and would have had to give way to him in any case. Furthermore, the road markings don't seem to prohibit overtaking where he did. Someone else would have had to break the traffic rules severely for that to be a dangerous situation. And a tire on the pavement being a serious error, while not checking if you're about to turn a cyclist into mince being a minor error seems very strange to me. Tires on the pavement might damage the pavement if it happened many times over a long period of time, so classifying it as a serious mistake makes no sense as it doesn't endanger anyone. So no, experienced drivers don't make more mistakes than learners, they just learn which rules are important to follow for the safety of you and everyone around you and even make most of them into habits (but sometimes still do make mistakes, even serious ones, because we're all human and we all do) and ignore the useless rules that waste time and attention. I've forgotten a good bit of the useless stuff I was taught in driving school one year into driving and yet in the last 10+ years of driving I've never been in an accident, but have avoided many, even though my job for the past 5 years involved a lot of driving. The only things I've ever damaged were an alloy wheel scraped against the sidewalk and a rear light busted into an outrageously curved tree when parking in the dark.
Checking mirrors before signalling is part of the Highway Code. It's the rules. You have to if you're a learner Once you pass, who cares, no one will know. But whilst learning you have to do it
Aman, you're fantastic, doing a great job teaching new students on their journey and carries the stress brilliantly 👏 Online community really enjoy these journeys and even now as a 5 year pass driver I enjoy watching how today's drivers are doing. . . thankyou 👍 Like DGN I enjoy these tests on random or experienced victims lol
Passed about a month ago and checking mirrors before signalling seems so pointless - like the whole point is to let other cars know what you intend to do not that you're actually about to do it?
This is really my nightmare. I have my driverslicense for a long time. I drive with lefthand steering, but have driven on holiday in South Africa with righthand driving. I would defenityly not pass with Aman, because not used to righthand and probably will have much clearance problems. However, if I do a test here? Howmany faults are now in my routine? I must say Aman, I said it before, although it is in the UK, because of your video's I start doing things again which I forgot.
Looking in the mirror before signaling? Why ??????? No , you signal and then you look in the mirror if you must change ur direction, to avoid accidents with idk bicycles, motorcycle ecc ecc ecc.
You should check the mirror before signaling your intent to make sure that the manoeuvre is even safely possible to do. Ideally it should be a Myrtle check before signalling and then if the manoeuvre is more than a second or so after, you do another check to make sure it’s still safe.
@@deanolium no man, they don't teach you this is school, because is irrelevant looking in the mirror before signaling, because if u must turn you'll turn anyway, signaling means that you tell the drivers behind you your intent to turn, and obviously after you signal you check the mirror. Another thing is when u surpass, in that case you check the mirror and then you signal ur decisions to surpass.
@@1024sofia in Europe you signal and then you check the mirror ....if you want to surpass someone is obvious that you look the mirror and then signal and maybe you check the mirror again when you decide surpassing.
@@crainicsebastian4671 so what happens when u signal, then check, then u see it’s not safe to proceed, then u continue and someone pulls out in front bc they moved off of a signal? This could have been avoided if I had checked first. Maybe watch some Ashley Neal vids bc it just makes more sense to signal after checking
Aman, could You explain please why should mirrors be checked BEFORE the indicator turns on? It's very interesting theme, cause I see it for the first time in truth! Cause usually everyone is taught that you first need to identify your intentions and only then, after making sure that the maneuver is safe, you can perform it and it seems to be logical, but it would be interesting to hear how You approach this issue?😉🙏🏻 As always your videos is awesome and You are pretty cute🤗🥰👍🇬🇧🇺🇦
Its to ensure that other road users and pedestrians know your intentions, for example if you intend to turn right its better to mirror then signal to ensure you can turn safely (you never know the road could be dangerous).
Nothing worse than a driver who doesn't check mirrors. It causes several different problems. Issues with clearance are solved by checking your mirrors. Unfortunately people get over-confident after having their licence for so long and comfortable because nothing dangerous has happened. But one day?...
Just goes to prove the old driving instructor's adage: you only learn to drive _badly_ once you've passed your test. Nobody teaches drivers to be crap.
I think he wants to keep his Australian licence. so has to do everything here, (doesn’t want to give that up to exchange) My cousin had the same issue with her Canadian licence
@@ClearviewDriving Oh, makes sense. I passed my test while i was living in the UK but then 4 months after I moved to Finland, did a exchange thinking it will be rejected seeing as i’m a new driver but pleasantly surprised to have my new Finnish license in the post 2 months later :)
@@ClearviewDriving really? Putting the vehicle in neutral and rolling down the road isn't a fault? So coasting is OK sometimes? On test I mean, I'm surprised by that. I just thought you didn't notice it as there's a hell of alot you have to focus on and alot going on.
@@fkez0510 That is only relevant to people who think using turn signal automatically allows them to turn or change lane, but turn signal is only for letting others know whats your next move. So as long as you still check mirrors and blind spot, the order shouldnt matter
You're supposed to check your rear mirror to know who's behind you and then you check the side mirror of the direction you're turning in to check if someone's passing you or about to pass you. Don't forget, new road new mirrors and consistent mirror checks every few minutes!
true fact that people who have been driving more that 5 years have bad habits while driving but new drivers are fresh soo a lesson every so many years should solve that lol
I hit temp lights today which were on red for at least 5 mins with no sign of changing. Once clear the cars in front of me went through the red light so I followed and those behind me followed. At the end of the roadworks one road worker couldn't be happier filming our number plates, am I right in thinking there's a high chance he'll pass this footage on and wel all get points on our licenses? I don't know how long we're supposed to wait if temp lights don't change
Hmm I’ve never seen anything happen like that, 🤔 I’m actually not sure. If you ever find yourself waiting at temp lights too long it’s usually that the person at the first may not have been close enough to the sensor. Or sometimes when the traffic lights go green but the traffic on the opposite side skipped red and then made you miss the whole sequence. So since the sensor didn’t register any movement it then thinks there’s no cars there 😓 Best to edge forward but not cross the red light
@@ClearviewDriving thanks it's just really bugging me now but time will tell. One other person said there's no proof it was on red so it won't stand but we'll see

@@betht7414 Good luck 🍀 I had 30 lessons and i past the second time. I’m sure you pass too.
@@betht7414 i passed my second time and i actually enjoyed the ride hahahaha. But it just really depends on your instructor☺️ good luck!!

Bless him, he seems like such a lovely guy. I wish him the best of luck for his real test! 🥰
@@jakerockznoodles there were motorways decades before the 80s. Even today motorway driving is not part of the test.
20:03 Oh how I love when someone has excuse for HIS/HER mistake. "Oh, it isn't my driving, it is the size of the car".

Great video I like to see people that's passed there driving test for years and doing the mock test love them episodes great work 👍
I love your reations in these videos.
I think that Ouch! was more about the cost of repairing the Mercedes wheel ;-) I really liked your clear and precise instructions.
Occ = pcv lol
It amazes me sometimes how some even pass their test but they do and they don't get any better
Thank you for this Aman and I’ve watched most of your videos and they help me a lot.
I’m taking some lessons at the moment so I’ll definitely email you to do the mock test 😊
Really enjoyed this one, thanks for sharing Aman.
Resting the hand on the gear stick can cause increased wear on the components. Also , as pointed out, lack of steering wheel control.
I dont understand the first minor issue. Why check your mirrors before signaling? Thatll help no-one im sure. Check before turning, by all means but why before even signaling?
It's the rules 🤷♂️ can't do much
That's just how Europeans roll. They have weird standards.
Today i clear my test with out lesson’s because of you madam thankyou so much ❤
Well done 👍🏽 🥹👏🏽👏🏽
And now you’re almost at 800k ❤️
I passed my driving test second time yesterday with 0 faults! I was feeling quite nervous as the first test wasn’t great (made a couple of silly mistakes) but watching these videos really helped a lot along with a couple more lessons with my instructor, so thank you. Happy to be part of the passed crew that still watch 😂
really 0 faults, well congratulations!
It was nice seeing that learner drivers can be better drivers than experienced, although a lot of experienced drivers don’t want to hear that!!😉😂
Doesn’t the UK have exchange agreements with Australia?
Licence holders from Australia do not need to take a test in the U.K. they just need to exchange their Australian licence with a British one if they’re living in the U.K.
Aman you'd have a field day testing people where I live, I'm sure about 80 percent of experienced driver's would fail their test as there's alot of people who seem to have given up the use of mirrors and indicators
Love these videos
You have to if you're a learner
Once you pass, who cares, no one will know. But whilst learning you have to do it
Aman, you're fantastic, doing a great job teaching new students on their journey and carries the stress brilliantly 👏
Online community really enjoy these journeys and even now as a 5 year pass driver I enjoy watching how today's drivers are doing. . . thankyou 👍
Like DGN I enjoy these tests on random or experienced victims lol
People are such in a hurry These days crashes and road offences are on the rise please be careful and responsible out there people
Passed about a month ago and checking mirrors before signalling seems so pointless - like the whole point is to let other cars know what you intend to do not that you're actually about to do it?
Always better to be safe than sorry.
I feel proud to be a learner 😁 I think I drive much safer
I'm watching this while driving.
Ideally it should be a Myrtle check before signalling and then if the manoeuvre is more than a second or so after, you do another check to make sure it’s still safe.
or check it is safe. Why would u signal, then check, see it is not safe or even signal too late/too early potentially mislead someone?
The first 10 mins of this video were like a hazard test! Click click click.
You should do both. Especially if there’s a lot of time between you indicating and carrying out the manoeuvre/turn
Nothing worse than a driver who doesn't check mirrors. It causes several different problems. Issues with clearance are solved by checking your mirrors. Unfortunately people get over-confident after having their licence for so long and comfortable because nothing dangerous has happened. But one day?...
That goes to prove that most tests are useless at testing your ability at anything
Best thing is that UK and Australia is right hand drive
one bad thing about the UK is that they use imperial still
Checking mirrors before signaling is nonsense.
i've not done one parallel park since I've parked my test so would absolutely fail if you gave me one :)
Just goes to prove the old driving instructor's adage: you only learn to drive _badly_ once you've passed your test. Nobody teaches drivers to be crap.
Also the adage that you are taught to pass the test , learning to drive comes from experience.
Unlucky Raife - with a brush up on the lazy habits we all pick up I’m sure you’ll do just fine :)
Was he not able to exchange his license to a UK one?
I was wondering on that as any countries colonized by the British empire usually have perks on them when they try their luck in life in the UK.
I think he wants to keep his Australian licence. so has to do everything here, (doesn’t want to give that up to exchange)
My cousin had the same issue with her Canadian licence
@@ClearviewDriving Oh, makes sense. I passed my test while i was living in the UK but then 4 months after I moved to Finland, did a exchange thinking it will be rejected seeing as i’m a new driver but pleasantly surprised to have my new Finnish license in the post 2 months later :)
Did you not notice he was putting it in neutral and coasting to a stop with the clutch up.
Hey yes but that’s not a fault
@@ClearviewDriving really? Putting the vehicle in neutral and rolling down the road isn't a fault? So coasting is OK sometimes? On test I mean, I'm surprised by that. I just thought you didn't notice it as there's a hell of alot you have to focus on and alot going on.
I think there should be a mandatory resit every 10-15 years
this is why retesting should be a thing
Why is it important to check mirrors before signalling? Makes no sense to me
To make sure you are able to turn in case you hit anyone
@@fkez0510 That is only relevant to people who think using turn signal automatically allows them to turn or change lane, but turn signal is only for letting others know whats your next move. So as long as you still check mirrors and blind spot, the order shouldnt matter
Love video
Before indicating which mirror to check? Side or rear? Or both?
You're supposed to check your rear mirror to know who's behind you and then you check the side mirror of the direction you're turning in to check if someone's passing you or about to pass you. Don't forget, new road new mirrors and consistent mirror checks every few minutes!

So since the sensor didn’t register any movement it then thinks there’s no cars there 😓
