This was the clip that convinced me to do my first open mic night. I was terrified of not getting any laughs and the realisation that I probably wouldn't because the room is full of comics all focussed on their own sets was liberating. I went up and got laughs, great feeling.
wow what timing i just came back from an open mic up here in toronto & gave myself some hard personal criticism of my performance. this episode was very fitting for me & gave me a reality check. thanks for the pearls of wisdom bobby. i would love to have bobby critique my stand up & would even pay him to have him as a stand up comic coach!

That technique of getting quieter when you want people to listen closer, i do that with the music I write. Lets just say I want someone to hear the drum part more closely, il include a few measures of rest or even quiet interludes which draw the listeners ear in closer. Smashing pumpkins are great at this, listen to bullet with butterfly wings. Jimmy(the drummer) utilizes rests and soft to loud dynamics which emphasizes the chorus to make them rock harder.
@NipsyChuckle I disagree. Why go if your not trying to make people laugh??? my first time I was very nervous feel free to check it out it's only 5 mins and I'm proud of this first stand up. Never touched a mic before this.
Have you done more since? How's it going lol it's tough, yes you wanna get laughs but so many times you don't and you're not going to , it's a comic crowd, same people hearing the same jokes / sets, it's tough lol Congrats on your first set too! Keep going if your enjoying it!

Explain why you think that, I’d watch every video where you talk about that topic, because in reality comics are exploring the space of human ignorance, delusion, and self deception, but with an invert function.. that explore the ends of that in the emergent property if the groups emotional and mind space…. It’s absolutely beautiful.
Its because he is an improvisor. Improv comedy/acting teaches you to focus on your fellow actor and its a different world from stand up. So Improvisors are made for Improv Comedy , Sketch Comedy and Acting especially in a supporting actor roles.
