My F80 M3 is a prime example of a well maintained one, no 22 year old owners, never any cost saving on repairs/maintenance and going stronger than ever at 124,000 miles now. I like seeing this content John, keep the M4 content coming (and try to make it perfect and OEM again)
I’m 20 with an f80 and keep it in mint condition, nothing to do with age at all. Just someone who wants a nicer car to show off but had about what happens to car over time
2:20, Do not just go coilover. 90% of the time they dont ride nearly aswell as the stock strut setup. All you need to do is get a shock with a shorter piston so it's correct and doesn't bottom out
You're making a very bold claim that a proper coilover isn't as good as the stock suspension. I've owned 2 f80s and an F87 and before even tuning, tires and either KWs or Ohlins were the first things along with proper tires. Coils on a sports car makes a noticeable difference on its handling characteristics.
Yeah by the time you started it I had already identified that it probably smokes and leaks oil lol. Needs a VC for sure. PCV is probably the reason for the rough start and bouncy idle. Since thats baked into the VC, odds are the gasket is leaking too. OFHG is almost regular maintenance on BMWs. 90% sure at this mileage the oil pan is leaking too. Fast forward 12 minutes lol yeah you already know what needs to be fixed.
your car is a prime example why these high end german cars get "clapped out" in the first place. pimple faced 20 something year old buys one a few years old, has a huge car payment, runs the snot out of it, cant afford the up keep, dumps it.
John, at 17:25 you mention the center support bearing, but these cars don’t have that. They rock the one piece carbon fibre driveshaft, and therefore don’t have a center support bearing. A few 2018 M3/M4’s have them, but all the earlier ones don’t :)
Only early models (yes this one) have the carbon driveshaft. Later models do not. Meaning that later models WILL need center support bearing serviced, just like any other two piece driveshaft. I am speaking in terms of models in general for maintenance not just the model i own.
Why do people find that Mosselman oil thermostat so great? It doesn’t really do much to be honest. You would be better off by installing a larger oil cooler.
🤔 There’s a lot of lowering springs that work amazing with just the factory strut ( if you wanna go that route) TEIN SUSPENSION has to have some of the best suspension/ parts hands down from just lowering springs to full coil over setups the product quality a1👌🏾 and the ride quality of your car after installing them 😳 HO-LEE-CRAP tein is just that good
How much was your m4 I had a 2015 bit made the horrible decision of selling it and want to get another but i thought of buying a clapped out one for less money.
I think he said he paid $23k for it. I just paid the same price for my 2015 M235 with 64k mi, very clean mechanically. Just did full bolt on and stage 2 BM3 tune - pulling like 430 hp - holy shit what a beast. Walk any stock M car at this point.
Dude I spun a bearing on my 2011 335i and it sat for 2 years. I Finally committed to a full engine swap (another N55) and it’s been an absolute nightmare. My pockets aren’t deep enough for the can of worms I opened and I may have to cut my losses and sell the car to the shop. heart breaking.
@@beaterbeemer Yeah bro take the L and move on with life. Live and learn. no matter how much you pump into it. She will never be worth anything. I only say this coming from massive BMW ownership experience.
Another great informative video, I'll definitely be following along on some of the maintenance videos with my own car. little off topic but if you were to do the eveunturi intakes again would you do the gloss carbon again or the matte carbon seeing as the matte looks so good on your e92 plenum
i’ve only seen 2 instances of a crankhub failure on an n55 and they both were making over 600 to the wheels so depending on your goals you’re probably fine

Why don't you use a 3D printed tool to be 100% sure nothing ended up in the engine? It is very cheep, and simple. With compressed air you send metal shavings everywhere, not just down. kotte_performance_gmbh makes crankhubs and tools for it, very smart guy.

When you finish with the motor, can you make a list of how much you spend + labor? Thanks!
suspension is the sexiest thing to talk about to me
If you really take care of the s55 how many miles can it make ?
Pcv broke on my n55 with 113k miles. Whinned like a baby lol it was wild.
Upgraded to moseelman oil thermostat on my n55 and it has been amazing. Also, motor and transmission mounts made a huge difference.

do you have a QV? those are fire. I would get one but maintenance and depreciation scares me. I like cars that I can fix or one of the homies can fix
I saw a used f80 for 20k on Facebook not too long ago and I was so tempted to buy it.
That's CHEAP. If you get the crankhub done, it could be very well worth it. F8xs are way more reliable than people give them credit for.
