Yeah, Casio digital watches are the original smartwatch. They had calcu, phonebook, pace, pulse, baro, altitude, thermo, and many other meters and games, bluethooth, atomic clock, solar, alarm, etc...without needing to charge those cellphone hardware every night. I just wish they'd make a newer simple digital with pedometer, heartrate, and solar in the old slick squarish design
I had one of these as a kid. I’ve looked for years for a replacement..... Casio really needs to bring back twin graph 2 , was a fantastic watch. Maybe update it for the G-Shock series
I had this watch when I was about 10 in 1988. It was such a cool watch. I loved it. I can't remember what happened to it. Sickening to see what they sell for now. The original strap has some twin graph decals in res and blue print. The strap broke on mine too.
Had this as a kid, was my favourite Casio from the '80's, still looks sleek today. My wife managed to secure one last year on ebay for my birthday and I was very pleased, they do seem to be rare nowadays in good condition. The original strap came with either a blue or red Twin graph II legend as well as stating its 50m water resistance. Thanks for the tip on the date, I did find it funny that the calendar finally expired in the year I got one back!
I had the AE-20W back in the day; a gift from my grandma. I got it when I was about 11 or 12 years old. I spent countless hours just staring and watching the display; playing with the stopwatch feature and trying to catch the splitsecond to exactly 00 😂 I loved that watch so much, I wish i took better care of it and still had it with me today.

Ok seriously, the features of this watch blow most LCD digital watches out of the water (dare I say even some of today's modern smart watches, since LCDs have "always on display" by definition); the accurate pie slice "time timer" feature is an incredible rarity among any countdown or stopwatch-equipped watch. Absolutely love the utility-aesthetic intersection. Now if only they could've made the calendar years a bit more forward-minded. Either way, super cool watch, hope you get as much joy out of wearing it as we have seeing it!
I had this watch. The strap wore very quickly, so it's no surprise to see a replacement strap on yours. I used to love setting the alarm and the countdown timer to go off simultaneously, so you get both alarm sounds together.
I love this watch and that seconds bar. I wish I could find one. I did just buy a near mint condition Thermometer Casio TS-100 watch they made in 1989. I had to pull the trigger on that one as I owned one in the 90s. 😎

I found one of these metal detecting on a beach as a kid! Recently found it in a storage box after 10 or so years. Thanks to your video I can identify it as a AE-21W! It also has the original strap with the "twin graph ii" graphics which is pretty cool. Nice to see it has gained some value, although I'm definitely going to keep it.
i had this as a kid i was obsessed with it, my dad got it for me from Argos, when we went on holiday i left it in the shower and when i went back to get it it was gone still hart broken 30 years later
Thanks for the review - I have all three twin graphs and stainless version of this one too. Your watch strap is likely original judging by the shape where it meets the lugs but I think the silk printed writing on the strap has worn off. Be very careful with the strap on the twin graphs! My NOS AE 21W strap went brittle! it has never been worn. Anyway, loved the video.
Thanks a lot for this video. I recently got myself a G-Shock DW-5900 (as a kid, I always dreamed about having a G-Shock like the 5900C), and, as I compared the the new 5900 to the classic 5900C, I realized the 5900C was a very unique G-Shock watch. I was under the impression the 914 module had been developed from the ground for the 5900C, until I found this video and I discovered exactly where the DW-5900C got all its functional logic from. The 5900C is functionally identical to the twin graph model you're presenting. The second and digi-analog displays are represented in the very tiny graphical displays in the 5900C (a feature I'm very sad to not be present on the new 5900), it also featured the same awkward 2019 calendar cap. As it turns out, the new 5900, like the original, also borrows its functional logic from other models (in this case, it's from the g-5600/6900 lineup, but without the tough solar and multi 6 features). There's a lot to miss from those old models, they where better in so many aspects. Either way, I'm glad I found this video. Keep the good work up!
I think I had the grandfather of these watches. The digital display of the analog hands took up most of the watch face with digital numbers in a window below it. It had the same type of graphics display for alarm and for timer. It also had a demo mode that had an interesting fun graphics display. I thought it was an interesting concept having an analog watch digitally displayed. It was a fun watch and I really liked it. I kept it over the years and tried to get it to work many years later but it didn't want to come on. Unfortunately, I lost it when I lost everything I had in storage. I would really like to see Casio bring it back possibly in an upgraded form with a few more features. I accidentally stumbled across these watch channels on TH-cam. I hadn't ever really thought about it and didn't know there were watch collectors. I don't recall the model number of the watch I had. I wouldn't know how to search for older Casio watches in an effort to try and find one. If I could find one I would be tempted to pay a fair amount for it. Unfortunately, I doubt I'll ever see one another one as I suspected would be very rare and it is probably fortunate as I'm on a fixed limited income so probably really couldn't afford it. I saw solid_state_vintage on TH-cam had an AE200 which looked very similar to what I had. Have you checked? Yours my have a demo mode as well. IIRC you had to press two buttons at once for demo mode.

I just love old Casio watches like this. I love the way the design team were thinking back then and how quirky the watches were. Having said that though, the year not going beyond 2019 was a bit silly of them. Did they not expect these watches to last that long or what?
These amazing vintage models should be released again by Casio with modern touches like tough solar in maybe a slightly more robust case with a sturdier strap..but still keeping the great module intact.
There's one up for auction rn, I jumped out at $175. Did however win ae-90w in NEAR MINT condition for $180. Try pressing and holding the "mode" button and it should put it into "demo" mode which continuously plays the screen animations
AE-20W came out in 1985. I owned one. Sad that I have no idea what happened with it. I have kept most of my watches when I was a kid, but I have no idea what happened to my AE-20W. I do really like this AE-22W. Very sleek looking and I actually didn't know about it until now.
My Twin Graph II from 1987 lasted for 25 years! From school to military to truck driving to farm working to nature hikes. Fantastic. Just bought my second Casio, the Casio Royale, since it reminds me of the TG II. It leaked after 6 days. Total disappointment. Made in China. I would like a thin, not overengineered Twin Graph III.

I had this AE-22W at end of 80's. As i remeber if you press all buttons at same time it wil start some cool graphics (or maybe alll plastic buttons i CAN REMEMBER). Try that you wil be amased. Bet wishees from Serbia/Europe.
I have one but i forgot where i put it, and i miss it very much nowdays. I can confirm that is not the original band. The original band had the tendency to brake once every year or so, and thats probably the reason i stoped using it. If i remember correctly the original band had "twin graph ii"printed on it.
Have you figured out the pressing SELECT and START/STOP Button at once ?, nice Graphic mode wich change time and Date :) I have one, but has an Issue with the Battery Contact :p
I bought a good condition twin graph ae22 w about 5 years ago for less than 50€. Got a ae20w for similar and bidded on an ae21w which I won at 75€ (I thought I payed too much) goods ones now are insane price. What has happened with ebay. These watches have become super expensive to keep collecting.

I had so much like the 30 melody with a plastic flange to clip Iover the speaker to make it louder I can't find a pic of it no where on the net can u find one i had the game.. Temp remote etc i was obsessed with them. All when I was young bought all I love to WATCH your videos and remenise
i had ae20 before... the animated stuff is super cool lol. the band broke and i trashed it so dumb of me... best way to wear resin band is not to flex or roll over the buckle... instead tuck end of band with middle and ring fingers then push the buckle up slightly with index and thumb fingers. the band wil retain its shape and last forever if you do that

Totally agree! And yeah, I own a couple Seiko watches...the Flightmaster and the new SRPE57 which I love.
