I have a 2018 Razer Blade 14" and I love it and it is still plenty fast enough for everything I throw at it. I just checked out this video because I was curious of the 18. What a beast!
$US4500 sounds like a bargain. In Australia, top of the line gaming laptops were going for around $US6000 last year. Only for the most hardcore gamers and power users still.
While this is a great laptop, this is also a good time to buy the previous generation of this laptop. The Blade 17 with the 30 series of GPUs just went on sale.
Ideally this would get used by engineers that have "home"work. Take it to the office, run your amazing 3D CAD applications using a solid external monitor option. Take it into the meeting rooms for colab and use it there as well, easy to hook it into a TV or projector. At home there is enough screen real estate to be able to do some updates or to write documentation. I do not think so much that this is for content creators t.b.h. The base model you got has, of course, the minimum amount of RAM and as an architect you would go for minimum of 64Gb and the video card choice is okay, but the drivers are always an issue. You need to use the latest, but they need to be certified to run with the software you are using - and that cat and mouse game will never end. Sure, you can do all of this on a 15" Dell XPS for instance, but it behooves you to take into consideration the cooling and the screen real estate. I have a 16" MBP for personal use, and my work laptop is 13" (not for much longer I hope). The difference in screen real estate is amazing. The 13" used to be my preferred laptop size, but not anymore. The premium price will be of no consideration for the right audience. Corporations might buck at the cost, eventually it is about productivity and ROI.
Dells actually, and there big heavy things, but have what a work station needs, xenon, and 125-192gb ram and an rtx6000. Power equals power, I wish I had pink Prius I could throw my mbp M1 Max 64G into 🤣
This is why you buy it in 2 years for $1500. Also, people that can afford to pay 4500 have more than 1 laptop & tablet for various needs- home, office, travel, gaming - one guy I know has a device in every room of the house. Unsurprisingly they also have more than 1 car. You wouldn't drive a Rolls to the supermarket. Something to ponder when you review luxury products and ask "Who is it for?"
I have an Apple M1 Pro MacBook Pro 16 for trading and it's a good system for it. The downside is that there's a moderate amount of trading software that runs best on Windows. My trading software runs but there are times when I'd like 2 screens on the road. The options out there are a portable 18 inch UHD monitor or a second laptop. Apple's laptops don't give you standard native resolutions so I have to adjust my setup when switching between desktop and laptop. So something like this with a UHD display would be great for traders. Traders usually don't need a lot of CPU and GPU capability but do need RAM which isn't a problem on these. The Razer 17.3 does have a UHD option but it would be nice to have the 18. I have a Swissgear Carbon 17 bag from 2008 which would probably hold this laptop. 2008 was an era when laptops were routinely 7-9 pounds and a lot thicker than today.
NGL, kinda wish I could afford one of these for work on the go, this seems like a great machine for training ml algorithms and playing the occasional game to kill time.
I have the top line version. 13980HX with a 4090 and 64gb ram and it is amazing. It beats my friends 3070Ti desktop by a huge margin and I can take it anywhere i want. The size really is not that big of a deal. Im 6'4" and I love the portability of this thing. Its truly a gaming beast that you can take anywhere. If you get a Blade 18 just go all in and get the top spec one. Worth it.
How come you compared the 16 inch to an 18 inch then say it's so much bulkier. That like comparing a 2 door coupe to a four door sedan and saying the 4 door sedan is bigger. You could have talked about screen resolution and it would make more sense.
I clear it up for y'all: VFX and CGI professionals who travel a lot do need a powerful mobile workhorse. All the other options, MSI and Acer and what-have-ya, all look like kid's toys. As a working pro, you can't drag those machines into an office, you really can't. So the Razer series bridges the gap between powerful (gaming) laptop that's usable for CGI but without the price tag of a "dedicated" mobile work station with mostly lower specs even yet with a respectable aesthetics. So there ya go. Picking my new RB 18 up tomorrow.

How loud do the fans get. Honestly its impressive how many points were missed. I left this review knowing that you don't like the size and price. Not really helpful.
A bit dramatic of a review. Why also complain about the size when it's literally considered a desktop replacement instead of your average laptop? Like it literally is an 18" laptop, what did you expect? Crazy how a smaller 16" is more portable! Like I would've never guessed. 💀🤣
Bur 4h battery time while doing Netflix? That is not OK. In fact the battery time on the 16 inch version is more than one hour longer, and that is just ridiculous. The battery time is the only thing that is keeping me from buying this beast.
Why in the world would an 18" laptop not come with a numpad/10-key? There's so much wasted space flanking that keyboard that it's not only unappealing aesthetically, but it's wasteful in terms of space. And a 4060 laptop for nearly three grand? Hard pass.
If you have to have the plug with you I say I give it 6 months before you will need to always have it plugged in since those batteries would die at that point LOL

I own this laptop nice package like an Apple is for traveling etc. But the keyboard is terrible I do miss the number pad and the pad is to big showing my age lol
I think I spend most of my time looking at the one or two monitors connected to my gaming laptop. I can buy an ASUS ROG Strix G18 (or G16) for much less. Get an i9-13980HX & Nvidia 4080.
I bought a laptop two days ago and I considered the Blade 18. I agree with this review. It's priced far too much. I'm a software engineer and I don't care for HX processors, or large power bricks. I would have liked to see a lower specced option with H series processors and I would even settle for a 4050 for the lower price point and more portable power brick (Lenovo matches smaller power bricks depending on specific configuration). I ended up selecting the XPS 17 with a 13700H and 4070. But if Razer had a product within the right price range, I might have gone with the 18... Because their screen options did appear superior since I didn't want a touch screen. They offered higher refresh and higher resolutions for non-touch. The premium chassis on the Blades, and center keyboard were huge features for me as a software engineer.
4.5K for a heavy notebook. I can see who *may* buy it. But 4.5K only lasts up to 8 months and technology-turnover takes over with the latest and bestest . I'll spend my 4.5K on a vintage rolex.
I have a very hard time understanding who a laptop like the Blade 18 is for. If you buy a higher spec model, the cost is so high that you might as well just get a desktop for gaming and an iPad for doing work on the go. The Blade 15 is an older design but it is still probably a better option for most buyers. I have one as my personal laptop. My work computer is a MacBook pro 16. The blade is more portable than my MacBook pro 16. It is also extremely competent at gaming, gets more than enough useable battery life for most situations, and costs thousands less than a highly spec'd blade 18.
Did you just say the MacBook Pro can play games competently? The max version is barely up to par with most gaming laptops. The super optimized games through metal STILL microstutter as if the CPU is bottlenecked.
I’ll play a game,to count my money, and if I have enough I’ll buy the best 4K UHD Intel Core i9 gaming laptop right now. I’ll pay less,I think their new releases are not worth it. UHD 4K display + graphics card is the next gen evolution, you can't rivalise with this for the display. Then, with video games they only ask for Intel Core ... i7 or i9 and graphics cards, processors is not the point. Well I’m not saying that I’ll get a machine with low processors I’ll get a machine with very good ones. Well I think that 4K UHD is not for now and companies doesn't want to sell those new computers. Ok they win, damned computers evolution,it’s always like that. I’ll search again.
That's probably cause of the cost of the gaming laptop + the extra stuffs that they put on those version + the cost of the 4K UHD display. I’ll buy the Asus Rog Strix G18.
@@kwadwo1000Ye that's what I've found and the laptop screen have a Rog Nebula display and the built-in display is 16: 10. The graphics card is Geforce RTX 4090. I have a 4K UHD OLED external monitor 48" flat(it's bigger cause it's taller and still large). 4K Laptops posses 4K UHD graphics cards, it's not only the screen that display in 4K. The built-in computer 4K UHD is something very strong and probably impressive. The image definition + the type of 3D is still something impressive. The sound and everything won't reach the "production" if it's not built-in,"it's only (1" cause watching the screen is either something very very important) watching the screen or recording with it's speakers. I think that "they" will probably release new types of Windows version soon. Then we would be able to get the 4K or maybe the 8K.
@@kwadwo1000 Maybe sometimes it would require something (added) even more to really be something even more extremely spectacular. Like buying 4K movies and watching it with a 8K TV or a very very good machine with a 8K built-in technologie and a 4K huge monitor. Just like doing everything with that. On the makings they should either improve the making, and for the movies while filming the other aspect would be the different types of technologies and the megapixels of the camcorder.

Why in the world would an 18" laptop not come with a numpad/10-key? There's so much wasted space flanking that keyboard that it's not only unappealing aesthetically, but it's wasteful in terms of space. And a 4060 laptop for nearly three grand? Hard pass.
The lack of numpad on a machine this large is the greatest sin.
One of their older models used to have one, and I still absolutely despise my newer Razer not including a numpad.
Hindu Mythology spotted ❤
If you have to have the plug with you I say I give it 6 months before you will need to always have it plugged in since those batteries would die at that point LOL
should i get this or nzxt desktop
Nzxt
Only 16Gb or ram???
new standard should be 32 Gb ram
@@naapsuvaimne740 64, have you see the browser taking it all up? lol

Me. Its made for ME. and i love mine so much that i dropped another 2 grand on accessories.
I own this laptop nice package like an Apple is for traveling etc. But the keyboard is terrible I do miss the number pad and the pad is to big showing my age lol
What's that video at 1:10? 😄
😂
I think I spend most of my time looking at the one or two monitors connected to my gaming laptop. I can buy an ASUS ROG Strix G18 (or G16) for much less. Get an i9-13980HX & Nvidia 4080.
Costs more than a 4090 desktop and doesn't even have an OLED display, hard pass.
Lack of 4K OLED is very disappointing.
The premium chassis on the Blades, and center keyboard were huge features for me as a software engineer.
what's wrong with RX processors? Do they run hotter?
Did I just see Hanuman on the screen for a b roll of the laptop ?
Seems that the one that makes sense is the 4070 model..
this cost like a old car where i live
4.5K for a heavy notebook. I can see who *may* buy it. But 4.5K only lasts up to 8 months and technology-turnover takes over with the latest and bestest . I'll spend my 4.5K on a vintage rolex.
lol , you can buy a powerful pc and you dont need to buy another after 8 months
4.5k wont get you a Rolex mate sorry
What tech worth thousands only lasts 8 months??
sweet laptops yes.... unfortunately anything mobile tha tis pre-wifi 7 is gonna age fast once thats out, and it looks to be fairly soon....
How could they omit the screen is miniLED?
Mini LED display option available on RB 16 model, not RB 18.
I will buy it.
5:16 why exactly?
As far as buying it is concerned please speak for yourself
insane price should be at least %50 percent cheaper
I have a very hard time understanding who a laptop like the Blade 18 is for. If you buy a higher spec model, the cost is so high that you might as well just get a desktop for gaming and an iPad for doing work on the go. The Blade 15 is an older design but it is still probably a better option for most buyers. I have one as my personal laptop. My work computer is a MacBook pro 16. The blade is more portable than my MacBook pro 16. It is also extremely competent at gaming, gets more than enough useable battery life for most situations, and costs thousands less than a highly spec'd blade 18.
its not for normal people, its for richer people or profesionals etc
Did you just say the MacBook Pro can play games competently? The max version is barely up to par with most gaming laptops. The super optimized games through metal STILL microstutter as if the CPU is bottlenecked.
@@RVPissBoys I said my blade is a competent gaming computer.
18in screen 😂😂😂😂 it’s a portable workstation. Not designed to put on your lap
It’s not a laptop
Left when i heard "4500"
forwhat you need high end laptop? just for gaming?:D i would understand , you should get itif you make alot of money with it
plz grow up out of 16gb ram..its gb at end not tb for heaven's sake.. $2.5k should get atleast 64gb ram.. dpus can be bolted as external dpgus "when needed".. its ur own cheerleadered n worshiped "work from home" era!.. its all fault of google for not making mobile pixel workstations.. or Samsung too for whom 16gb on phone is peanuts.. they can solder 64gb as standard on their notebook pcbs.. same for google.. cuz everybody else / surface books r matching nailpolish shades with laptops..
MacBook Pro 16 is so cheap in comparison to this , but MacBook Sales are fallen down dramatically because Windows can do everything Literally 😅
That price is laughable
