The nose art on your Corsair is from the US Marine Crop squadron "The Death Rattlers". In WW2 this squadron racked up 124 kills in the battel of Okinawa. Twelve members of the flight group became aces. They got their name when three airmen, in training, killed a six foot rattlesnake and hung it up in the ready room.
Don't know why this came up in my feed, but looks like a pretty awesome R/C plane. Where was this stuff when I was a kid? LOL Not enough hours in the day for me to have another hobby, but I hope those of you who fly these have a great time with it!
I was a pilot in VMFA-323. We flew the F/A-18. During my time we had the 50 year re-union of the "Death Rattlers". Several of the original members attended. The CO was an Ace with 5 Zero kills. The original art that you describe was pretty close to what the signature airplane in the Squadron in WWII had. Regular guys painting the airplane. Not artists. Still pretty bad ass in my opinion.
Awesome plane! One of my favorites. Actually the nose art is reminiscent of the old school don't tread on me style... And pretty sure that's a specific group insignia. (Don't really like the way it looks on this myself though)
I have the Arrows Corsair and immediately modified the flaps so all quadrants operate as they do on the full-scale Corsair. Doing so provides additional drag over the stock configuration and it looks a whole lot better! I fly with 4S batteries which provides additional performance over 3S.
Appreciate your work. I own this bird. Retracts are weakened because they rotate. Props are really brittle. Tail wheel does not turn. Must be flown on runway not grass. Cost me over $40 dollars almost every flight for both retracts because they don't separate them. Tap the nose on landing and you nee a prop. Been hanging on the wall for about 2 years. Thanks
True no quality I got lazy years ago and bought an art made in Vietnam and it broke on the first landing, the quality sucked the so called plywood looked like it was made out of bamboo
That...artwork...is based upon the World War II's Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 323 (VMFA-323), known as the Death Rattlers, . The actual art work on the real planes is not that much better, but it *is* better. :-) In the Vietnam era, the squadron flew the most obvious follow-up aircraft the the Corsair, the F-4 Phantom II.
There was 4 of them with that nose art. number 2, 11, 13, and 18. All were destroyed during the Korean war. They flew with VMF323 know as The Death Rattlers, not the sidewinders.
The Pukin' Snakes. There actually is a Navy sqadron called the "Pukin' Dogs". VFA-143 out of NAS Oceana, VA. The original squadron was VF-821 comissioned 20 July 1950 and re-designated VF-143 4 February 1953.
If the nose art is historic, then it's ok. The Corsair is second to the P-38 in my earbuds favorite list. This is a nice one. Ths ks for showing it to us.
I noticed a lot of the pilots who fly on 4S, end up burning out the ESC. I don’t think these ESC’s are fully capable of the Higher voltage. I’d upgrade to a 60 or 80 amp.
The stock ESC has been fine on 4s since day one. Just don't put a higher pitch prop on it and it is fine. 60a esc is overkill and just added weight. I fly the Arrows T-28 on 4s too. No issues. I guess if you are nervous about the EXC burning out it won't hurt to put a better quality ESC. Or just add a separate UBEC like a linear 5a one that way if the ESC burns out you can still control the plane. I put ubecs on all my planes for extra insurance. Cheap 15-dollar insurance investment.
@@FarmerFpvE-flite P-51 has the same size motor, and is 3S & 4S capable, however they have a 70amp ESC installed. 40amps, and possibly lower quality, is just not ideal. When I said burn up, I actually meant the ESC will shut down likely due to over heating. I you ever have a loss of power, not due to the battery voltage, it is likely the ESC getting too hot.
Hey Nate, nice review but... (yeah, there's that "but") wish you'd remember us guys that are restricted to grass runways. Even if you can't do grass Ops we'd still value your opinion on whether or not the model could/would handle the grass. Thanks.

I have built two other Corsairs. With the inverted gull wing, it lacks traditional dihedral, so it doesn’t self-right as quickly. That said, it’s not inherently unstable, so it’s just a different flavor.

It had a very powerful engine swinging a very large prop, so it had a tendency to roll on it's back on takeoff if power was not applied correctly. The air frame was very efficient for it's time, due to the gull wing design. Though that was accidental, the wings were lowered to reduce the length of the landing struts due to strength issues. (They had to keep that large prop off the deck.) It's decent, but not impressive, turn rate made it an E fighter, but it's impressive roll rate made it very deadly if attacking from a higher altitude. The Zero could easily out turn it on co-plane, but couldn't out turn that roll rate in a dive! It's flight characteristics made it an excellent dive bomber, and the very strong landing gear was able to be used as a dive brake that could take more stress than the standard auxiliary air brakes of other aircraft, without sacrificing speed and handling like earlier designs such as the spoiler flaps of the Wildcat.
