    I like the good doctor’s take on this message. The only thing I would add, which my mentor gave me years ago, would be if you don’t have four hours find 30 minutes; every day.
    That made all the difference especially with a fully time job and three, very young kids.
    The flip side is that if you don’t make the time, you won’t have that time.

    What great advice! This is definitely a struggle for us. My wife and I both have had setbacks in life that basically bankrupted us and we had to start over in our mid 30's. Now in our mid 40's we have things on track but it has come at the expense of just work, work, work, all the time. Having our ducks in a row, enjoying our golden years with young kids, seems to be a mirage that we never reach. I get this "Cat's in the cradle" feeling that we will never have time for them until they're adults and out of the house. We need change but it's hard, we're still having to work all the time to keep the lights on.

    Thank you for this video. There is a lot of truth in it. But I personaly love my job, and I am more motivated when I work, because I do something meaningful. I don't have more energy on weekends and holidays, but less somehow. I am happy to be a doctor. And it was good, that I could work even in Covid pandemic. I would have gone mad without it.

    This one is a crusher. I normally don't think this way. Apart from starting my own business, or working a part time job or I guess having funky work hours to preserve my "golden hours" what could I do to put myself first?

    I've often thought that the 8 hour work day was curated to get the maximum amount of work out of a person, whilst leaving them just enough free time to carry out personal tasks.

    I’d love some examples of how to do this when you work full time and are raising children.

    • @psychacks
      @psychacks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It's not easy to do, but it is possible. The issue is that most people can't start it all at once. They first need to create the structure that can support this possibility -- which can take years. But if it's going to take a while, you might as well get started.
      Your best bet would likely be to liberate your earning from your time, which would probably entail starting your own business. It's very hard to not eat crumbs when you have a full-time job. Developing a part-time income stream to replace the day job will take a while, but that would also mean that the childcare will decrease commensurately as the kids grow, enter school, and become more self-sufficient.

    This video is great....
    After watching a few other it's evident you're too deep to see clearly. As an intelligent person I hope your perspective shifts closer to reality. I hope you have mental health professionals for yourself. We all benefit from them, no matter who you are. Its alarming to hear your view of things. I've tried really hard to be respectful, to put it plainly your perspective is dangerous and antiquated.
    When was the last time you took a vacation or went somewhere you got to experience a different way of life? Too much time in our own bubble can be detrimental. Here's the bit of snark I have, go touch grass. I'm making assumptions but wish you are emotionally intelligent enough to read this as it's intended.

    8 hours of personal (play, chores, hobbies)
    8 hours of public contribution (work)
    8 hours of sleep/healing/recharging
    THAT is life balance.
    Anything else is fucked up.
