  • What a memorable fishing session this was. Epic catches using various techniques in the shallows, a close run in with an uninvited 13 foot guest and a few very funny slip ups that cracks me up every times. Its bread and butter fishing but its still so good.
    In this vid we
    - Show how to use drifter or sleeper paternoster rigs
    - Catch plenty of rock flathead with bait
    - Catch plenty of snook on soft plastics
    - Have a close encounter with a 13 foot mako shark
    - Catch heaps of king george whiting on soft plastics
    - Several funny slip ups handling slippery whiting
    Follow our fishing adventures by kayak, boat, land & jet ski with lures & bait targeting saltwater, freshwater & estuary species. The channel is fun, relatable, and features world class fishing action, product reviews and tips.

    The big thing that worries me when I am out in the yak is having a decent sized shark come nosing around. I can imagine how uncomfortable that would be.

    Sharks are normal in the water and surprised that was your first close call considering how much kayak fishing you do.
    But that guy on the boat omg, first time I've seen something like that, not sure if you should stay still and hope he sees you or try to paddle out the way and risk him turning into you. Also has that boat type thing ever happened to you before?

    Scary moments with some of the big Noah's out there at the moment mate, I went out the day after this and marked one on the sounder as well. They seem fairly fixated on food so not too much risk, but let's not find out for sure either hey 😅

      Yeah it all happens so quickly, been lucky over the years I guess. I was hoping to sneak up to Portland in the next week or two thats a great place for them. By all reports last time I was there a big resident great white was in the shallows where i was fishing that day

    Hey Alan,
    I'm going fishing tomorrow and just wanted to ask you, Do you prefer using a net with old bait or burley as attractant? Also where do you recommend fishing landbased for snook? Awesome video!

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I rarely use berley when targeting whiting on the kayak. It brings in many pest species like rays. If im on a boat then im happy to do so. Key is to keep moving until you find them. There are so many snook in PPB. Ive caught plenty of st kilda pier, st leoanrsd pier , wangim walk etc. catch heaps of them in the shallows on the kayak

What budget were you looking at? A lot of my mates and FishingMad members have found a few bargains things like hobie outbacks or compass on facebook marketplace. Great choices as they are so much more stable then some of the cheaper entry level yaks

    • @braydentankard1842
      @braydentankard1842 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers! I’ll take a look at that. I’m not necessarily set to a budget, more just want something good value that has what’s required and will take me through the beginner to intermediate stage before upgrading. I’m in Victoria as well and would most likely be fishing Port Phillip.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  ปีที่แล้ว

      In that case 100% keep your eyes out for something like a hobie outback or compass or native watercraft. Especially if you can get a 2nd hand one in good condition at a good price. They have great stability and set of features and accessories.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Being 100% honest I've been lucky and haven't had a huge amount of experience with sharks in the yak. Much will really depend on how the shark approaches. If its super close and acting curious or tapping the yak then calmy get the hell out of there, otherwise if its just passing by then just keep calm and watch what it does and where it goes. unfortunatly I didn't get the footage of this one going under the yaks as i was busy pulling up the anchor and rods

      @@fishingmad Thanks. We mostly have smaller bull sharks in the lake. They seem to react to the splashing of fish or the paddle. So, reeling everything in and move away slowly seems sensible. No one has been attacked kayaking in the lake.

      @fishingmad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah Bull sharks in the lakes are fascinating. Amazing how many are in there and how most people don't even realise and bull sharks are one of the smarter and more curious sharks. They will often camp under peoples boats waiting for an easy feed too
