  • After several days out fishing over the last 2 months and not finding any decent fish, I finally had a great day out chasing the pelagics off Noosa, Queensland. After crossing the Noosa River bar, I headed north and managed to find some reasonable size mackerel.
    Highs and lows...although I lost a few nice fish, I finally landed a nice Spotted Mackerel using live bait. Highlights of the day are in the video.
    Hope you enjoy! Please like and subscribe to see more!
    For the interested viewers, I ride a Yamaha FXHO 2019 model expertly fitted out by Shoreline Yamaha from Brisbane. It has several mods for jetski fishing including an additional 25 litre long range fuel tank (giving a total of 95 litres capacity and a range of some 180 klms or more) , GME 25W VHF radio, navigation lights, dual batteries, and a tow tap. I always carry the regulation safety gear including wearing a Personal Location Beacon (PLB) and of course the mobile phone!
    All the jet ski fishers I know do their best to drive carefully and respectfully around other boat fisherman and all water users.

      Hi Matt. Thanks for subscribing. If you're in SE QLD, I'd recommend gong on a tag-along fishing trip organised by Jet Ski Fishing Mob. You'll find them on Facebook. You'll get to experience some offshore fishing, and get to know your ski in the safety of a group. I don't mind company but I am pretty spontaneous and don't give much notice! In fact I find it hard to organise trips wth others as everyone has their own life schedules and getting in sync is difficult. But with a ski you can go on your own. Just build up your confidence. If you carry a lot of safety gear (marine VHF, EPIRB/PLB, etc) you feel safer and know if things go pear-shape you can call for help. But with good planning, you can gain confidence. I don't mind sharing info if you need more help.

      crunchied8 for the tag-along, The Jetski Fishing Mob have a website so id email or call then and get on the mailing list; Rods and line are noted in some of my vids in the video comments. But I normally carry 3 plus a sabiki rod. A 14000 Stella on a Shimano traveller rod, Saragossa 6000 on a Shimano Jewel 8’ for casting/top water; and a Talica 10 with 6’ Ugly stick for bottom fishing. The big Stella is for trolling or casting big stickbaits. The rod in this video, the white one, is a Abu Garcia 702 spin. I snapped that on the Swain’s trip! Not very strong overall.cheers

    God damn that looks fun ive already decided to sell my 4.5m runabout and get a ski set up for fishing, i figure ill leave the boat ramp and be back with fish in under 3 hours going offshore from gold coast

    • @Jetcast
      @Jetcast  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah although hit and miss on the fish just the same! But you’ll go places that a 6.5m goes! The GC is a good fishery. I’d go out there more myself but don’t know the best spots. Every time I’ve been out I’ve had rotten luck.

      First of all, dont use Holy Name in cursing!!! Second of all, jetsky fishing doesn't show you reality, your ride will always will be wet! Do you want that? I bet you never sold your boat and if you did, youre regretting your decision now.

    • @Jetcast

      Is “Geezus” cursing? Secondly, you can get wet on boats too! I went out on one recently and came back soaked. :)

    Beautiful fish there matey well done. Are spotties good to eat?

    • @Jetcast
      @Jetcast  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! Yes, very good to eat.. For the pelagics that we can commonly get locally from a ski, the order of taste is probably Cobia or Spanish Mackerel, then these Spotted Mackerel. But the difference in mackerel taste is not huge. Of course the prize for taste is still the red reef fish (coral trout, red emperer etc) and snapper, but around here is sub-tropical and only snapper are common. For me the excitement targeting and catching mackerel -plus the size of the fillet you get-is why I chase them! This one fish in the video will feed 4 adults for at least two if not 3 good size meals.

      Jetfisher Great stuff. So are you trolling the live baits or just dropping them un weighted

    • @Jetcast
      @Jetcast  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PeeexFishing The Spottie was caught slow trolling an unweighted live slimy mackerel. You just idle in forward gear on the ski. If you see a showing on the sounder down deep, go to neutral for 10 secs or so to let the bait try to swim down. It's changeover season and there are also snapper and mulloway (jewfish) on the reefs, so weighting live bait can help pickup these using the same technique. The weight just assures you get it down deep to be in front of the snapper or other hungry ones. But also you get the odd snag and lose the lot! For the spanish (the first one I lost) I was using a dead bonito, around 30cm long on a 110 g chin weight, and 67lb single strand wire. Hope this helps. BTW you guys have the best fish and fishing over in NZ! I feel inadequate with what I catch compared to the fish I see caught in NZ! Best wishes

      Gday! Welcome to this awesome sport/pastime! Im not the best person to talk to about Moreton Bay, but there’s a few channels dedicated to this very subject. One is Land and Bay Fishing by Wayne Groomes. Check that out as I seem to remember many videos dedicated to discussing the pros and cons of many spots around the bay. Also join the Brisbane Jetski Fishing and Jetski Meetups SE QLD Facebook groups, intro yourself and you’ll likely find somebody close by to go out with you. I rarely fish the bay these days so don’t rely on me! Keep watching the Jetfisher videos as they pretty well document most of my (successful) fishing trips as I learnt what to do the hard way. Several how to videos amongst them too! Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Would you ever say that you would break even as far as Cost goes. Meaning do you ever think the fish will pay for your ski? I'm thinking about getting one or a small boat

    • @Jetcast
      @Jetcast  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Jacob, it's pretty hard to justify the cost of a waverunner or boat based on catch. I think the value for me- and I think I can speak for others who fish- is the fantastic boost it has given me for my mental well being and general health! It helps balance out the M-F job stress and gives me a lot of enjoyment. A lot of people put a lot of effort into working hard for 20+ years, buying and paying off a home, raising kids, etc. Then they get to the middle of life and think "what else is there?" I was one of those guys that need an outlet from the stresses of paid work. My fishing has made it possible to pursue a dream, and it's reignited a passion for the sea that I have always had. The fish I catch are really just the bonus! Sometimes I get a lot , and I like to share with family and friends, and then there are days I get nothing to bring home. All I could suggest is that justifying this sport on food for the table is possible, but really shouldn't be the aim of doing it as the stress of trying to get fish on the bad days will kill all enjoyment! I also wouldn't recommend doing a TH-cam fishing channel either unless you can go full time! It adds an additional element of stress! Good luck mate.

      dinga.com.au. It’s two piece, so folds up nicely for storage on the ski or inside pods. www.dinga.com.au/rovex-sabiki-7-2-2-piece-live-baiting-fishing-rod-17549.html
